I know you attempted to get that ceramic bezel insert as part of the mod as well… Get the aluminum! The black aluminum planet ocean for the 45 mm watch… It truly does fit! I added sapphire to one of them changed out the planet ocean blue and the planet ocean black bezels and I put the French paratrooper expandable strap on them with a complementary color… They said proudly next to my much more expensive divers...Thanks for the fun piece!
Whilst I completely agree that it would work well as a 40mm, the market currently wants bigger watches, so I can completely understand Casio‘s decision to make it this size. Best wishes
The thing about quartz watches is, even if it isn’t 200m WR anymore, if you get some water in it, you will just see some condensation and learn not to swim with it, and continue to use the watch! Water inside a mechanical watch is very bad. Water inside quartz just evaporates and keeps working!

Dan, I have had the black and gold Casio Duro on a Bond Nato strap and I like it very much however, every time I watched you and Jody mod your Duros with a sapphire crystal, I felt that my Duro was certainly missing something. I’ve watched both your and Jody’s video enough times that I felt confident enough to give it a try. Despite being a complete “horology virgin” (except for regulating my Invicta Pro Diver), I went onto Amazon to order the same crystal press that you have and on another website I bought an MDV-106 domed sapphire crystal and some finger cots. The only problem that I had was due to failing eyesight was removing the crown stem as the release button is so tiny, but with two pairs of my most powerful reading glasses worn together and a pin, I managed to remove the crown stem. Next, I popped off the mineral crystal, added the domed sapphire crystal, put everything back together and the job was done and the Duro is very impressive. Now I can look at my Duro and feel proud and it looks absolutely amazing. Dan, thanks for your help to inspire me to do this mod and your channel is very much appreciated.

Managed to crack the crystal on my Addiesdive while trying to remove the cyclops. Figured out that two new mineral crystals cost 1/3 of one sapphire, so I'll just go with that and replace it again if I ever manage to scratch it up really badly. 😂 Press was stuck at customs for a while, but it should finally arrive this month...
I removed 2 Cyclops prior to trying it on my pagani design GMT. After 4 heat cycles I gave up. It's still their. I had a feeling if I tried for the 5th time I was going to break the Cristal.
@@Happyfacehotwheels Remove it first. Pretty sure it only cracked under heat cause it couldn't expand in the case. Though if the crystal is mineral you could argue that you'd be better off keeping it intact and just switching to a new one, they cost maybe 3 bucks.
Hi Dan, yep did the same after watching Jody,however noticed the hands was wobbly so stupid me used the wrong hand press broke the second hand in half, now got a cracking marlin minus second hand. All down to experience learning all the time,won’t make that mistake again. Glad you like the look of your updated merlin.
A tiny tiny bit of silicone on the crown threads as well , and people underestimate this watch ! I work in a prison and it keeps going and going despite me beating the livid shit outta the thing ! My original crystal is in rough shape so I’m gunna do the same mod ! Thank you for the great video and content as I now have the balls to attempt this mod as well lol
Before screwing the back in I would check again if everything is correctly aligned. I guess you rushed because is your first time doing it. To be honest, myself never mod/change anything in my watches yet, just very careful by nature. Well done mate. 😊
I’ve just not got the confidence to change the Crystal but nice to know how. Had my Duro on yesterday and the supplied rubber is a bit of a git at times. Think me needs a supple waffle. Good job Dan 👏

Yeah it's big but it fits on my weedy 6.75inch wrist nicely, even after I put it on a chonky metal bracelet. Did the sapphire mod too. Wish they were easy to get in the UK - had to import mine from 'Murica.
Agree, once there's a scratch on the watch don't want to wear it anymore. Really nice watch the Duro, I love the red arrow second hand. Also the effort they have gone to with the Marlin engraving on the case back.
It would be nice if we could get a submariner Rolex crown and bezel and dial/face/sapphire crystal. I guess we can get the sapphire crystal and all kinds of different bands the Marlins. I may get a sapphire crystal and probably change the bands around a little bit on my marlin,,,,if we really truly wanna submariner look-alike watch I guess we can always go to AliExpress they’ve got all kinds of them there,,, i’ve been looking around I like the Pagani 1639 and I like that new Pagani BB 58. They have a lot of different stuff there. I guess it’s probably all cheap.It’d be nice to get a fancy looking watch just to go out to dinner or something like that. I’ll probably still wear my marlin every day most the time though. I really like my Casio a lot it looks great too.
Excellent video- I bought a blue and a Gold Duro and after watching Jodi’s video, 3 Sapphire crystals. Great opportunity to align the second hand as well, as one wasn’t hitting the marks. I struggled to release the crown initially but it’s a lot easier to do with it in rather than at time adjust position as you say.
And today the final pieces arrived, metal bracelets and milled clasps for the original black, and the Gold trimmed bezel.... I have a similar blue waffle (probably BluShark) on my blue Duro and it looks great.
they send them in padded envelope, will send box at small extra charge for postage. based in las vegas i think..emailed manuel though if required.will be ordering second one soon ;-)
The waffle strap I got with the Steeldive Willard is easily the most comfortable I have , followed only by the rubber strap on the Pagani Daytona , would recommend your waffle strap to anyone looking to really change the look and feel of a sport or dive watch.
Watched this again today, cracking upgrade....shame about the insert, I am surprised that there aren't more parts available, considering the value proposition, at this price a mistake isn't going to break the bank....I'd lay odds on it being a profitable move for any company to sell specific mod parts for this....🏴⌚🏴⌚

Bought the blue version of the Duro a while back. It is a great value for money watch. The only thing I don't like is the size. A 40 or even 42mm case would look and fit much better. I changed the original strap too, as it just didn't really suit the watch. I think I'll have to attempt this upgrade now after watching this. 😁

Is it possible to somehow fix the indents so they like up with the seconds hand? Even on your model I notice the 45 indent and most of the left hand ones are misaligned w the seconds hand, my Duro has the same issue unfortunately...

Did a similar mod, but with a double domed sapphire with a blue AR and it fits the watch perfectly, however there's one big issue - it looks real fuzzy and the dial seems faded. Not sure if it's the AR or the crystal itself is cheap, but it's bothering me a lot. Anyone else had a similar issue? Thinking of getting a non coated crystal to replace.
@@NicolaIIILombardi i didn't go diving or anything with it, but in day-to-day use its perfectly fine - rain, sower, dishes, etc. That said, i have no doubt that it's as waterproof as it originally was, especially considering gasket is in good condition, didn't even have to replace it with a new one. The issue with the crystal was actually a finger smudge on the underside. Took the watch apart, gave it a wipe - and it's clear as day now. Something i should've done from beginning, but i was too excited, i guess. :D

Managed to drop my Duro on the ceramic tile floor and shatter the original crystal (I'm heartbroken). Will order a new sapphire but was wondering if you think my local jeweler and watch repair can handle the replacement efficiently as I don't have the adequate tools to do the repair myself. Do you think it's an oddity for a standard watch repairman?
Mine also fall victim to the bathroom floor as well and my heart just sank in to the sea bed level :( But i ordered the whole repair set from AliExpress and will have a crack when they arrive :)
Without a gasket it's not a dive watch anymore...Good for water sports or taking a shower but going deeper than 5 meters and you get humidity and water inside the case. A professional watch technician confirm that. This sapphire mod cancels the reason for buying a value for money dive watch like Duro.

I have the pepsi duro the green bezel duro the black bezel and the blue bezel going to swap a sapphire in the pepsi and get a jubilee band these are great little watches I picked all of them up for $40 bucks total they were on clearance at Walmart for $9.99 each couldn't pass it up I couldn't find the black and gold bezel one which I really wanted

Hello, do you think it's possible to replace the Cristal in a pagani PD 1651. For a dome Cristal for instance.
I think it should be possible. It would be a case.of.remiving and measuring the standard crystal to then order a domed one that will fit.

i've searched long and hard, and different bezels are extremely thin on the ground!
Without a gasket it's not a dive watch anymore...Good for water sports or taking a shower but going deeper than 5 meters and you get humidity and water inside the case.
A professional watch technician confirm that. This sapphire mod cancels the reason for buying a value for money dive watch like Duro.

I have the pepsi duro the green bezel duro the black bezel and the blue bezel going to swap a sapphire in the pepsi and get a jubilee band these are great little watches I picked all of them up for $40 bucks total they were on clearance at Walmart for $9.99 each couldn't pass it up I couldn't find the black and gold bezel one which I really wanted
