I bought 2 of these, one for myself and one for a friend who is a licensed scuba diver. I took the original resin straps off and put on 22mm black rubber straps with red stitching from Strapsco. The red stitching matches the red second hand and makes the watch look more customized. I also bought a blue one and put it on a navy blue seatbelt single pass NATO strap.
One of the first watches I bought for my collection. Just really liked how it looked. Lasted waaay to long on that resin strap, recently swapped it out for a cheap $20 oyster bracelet and it looks and feels better. Will be swapping out the crystal as well!
Got one month ago two MDV-106, the blue and the black one. I have a 6,25 inch / 16.5 cm wrist and they sit just right on it - no wobble, discomfort, or silly look. The low profile of the case does the trick. I have nothing but praise for the included resin strap: it looks appropriate, breaks in a week, and becomes comfy as a good pair of slippers. I got a blue Duro for Christmas! I was a little worried that it would be too big for me, but it's awesome!! I got a set of Nato straps to put on it too and wow do I love this thing!! I asked for it based on your recommendations. Thank you so much!
I'm impressed the second hand lines up pretty much the whole way around. Even on better quartz watches that's a rarity, you usually see it align for half a minute (mostly from 30 to 60) and be slightly off from there. This one seemed to hit the markers all the way through.
@@richardabazley yes he does! For UK buyers it's not a problem, due to trade agreements between US and UK Short story I got my first MDV106 few years ago, from this very helpful and chatty guy. The watch arrived in around a week and I didn't even notice that he ships from the States. Earlier this year I tried getting a few of Duro's from his store for me and my friends. But we noticed that he ships from US and we live in Greece. Getting a box with 10 brand new watches from US to Greece through Greek customs, would be a painful and very expensive experience.
Got a pair of Duros, last of the line with the Marlin motif, which is being discontinued. Newer models will simply leave the dial area blank, where the logo was placed.
Upgraded mine with a sapphire crystal and took it SCUBA diving to 30m - no problem whatsoever - love this watch for the money (just over £42, second hand !).

My first dive watch years ago, and still a classic in my collection. Was surprised at the size but it wears so well, even on my 6.5in wrist! Slapped an orange Barton Brand Elite strap on it and it looks so good :)
I managed to get a price-matched, dual 10% discount and ended up paying a little under 39 USD for one yesterday. It’s an absolute steal at that price and I don’t regret my purchase.
Good to know. I purchased the factory casio replacement bracelet for mine and it was a hair pulling piece of junk. Threw it in the garbage and got a leather strap.
I did this as well. Here's a thread with a picture and a wrist turn video of the Duro + SKX bracelet. www.reddit.com/r/casio/comments/j9jers/casio_mdv106b2avcf_on_seiko_skx_bracelet/?ref=share&ref_source=link
Ha! I went with the Strapcode "jubilee". It was a squeeze and the lugs/endlink aren't perfectly matched but very handsome nonetheless. Very odd to have spent more on the band than the watch, but the result is spectacular!
I picked up one of these based on your review a few years back and it's not missed a beat since. I ditched the strap for the genuine steel band and it's been a regular on the wrist and my "go to" beach and pool watch and had a fair few compliments in its time!
Jody, thanks for the great video on this watch. I'm taking my wife on our first cruise next month and have been searching for a nice watch to wear on the formal dress dinner night. I'm a retired Coastie and don't feel a need to find something that I will only wear to weddings and funerals. Bottom line, I'm not posh. This watch ticks the boxes for me. Add a nice steel bracelet when I want to dress up, swap out for a rubber or Nato when I'm working in the garage or hitting the beach. Ordered the one with the blue/black bezel today and look forward to putting it to work. Thanks for the in depth and engaging content.
I got the blue one a few months ago, and the Sunray dial is really nice. A couple weeks ago I skimmed over the Clearance shelf at my local Wal-Mart, and found the black one like in this video for $11! It needed a battery, but my total cost was less than $15. Unbeatable bang for the buck.
Love how diver watches go with absolutely any strap. It's like having a couple of different watches for different occasions. And I would take black dial one because it goes with every color perfectly except maybe brown.
If it was 40mm it would be perfect. The dial is exactly what I want. I had one but I gave it to a friend because it was too big for me. If Casio makes it smaller it would be a huge seller.
A simple black NATO with a thin red stripe down the middle works on this variant as I discovered. Everything this cheap should look and work this well. Thanks Jody!
Would love to get this watch alas not sold in any shops in the UK.... Also prices online incl tax and postage just too high £131 on Amazon!!!! .....Maybe I need to move to Oz!!
This is the watch that started my watch collection. Technically it's the SNKL41, but the Duro came first in the mail a day before. I love it when guys stop to ask about it even though it's a "cheap" watch. I'm a woman who likes watches and I'm glad to have this one. Paired it with a stressed leather strap.
I am the worst with watches... less than a week after purchasing this watch in blue I put three big scratches in the aluminum bezel and a couple small scuffs in the glass. I think I need to buff the glass and I’m in the market for a lumed bezel insert. Love the watch!
@@djzrobzombie2813 I think probably in store only. A lot of the store reduced or removed their jewelry counters and it is this stores that cleared them out. Some store still have them at full price, if they are keeping the counters. Sorry, but you just have to check each store.
11:06 Jody, you can't tease us like this. The Duro is already my favorite budget diver. If they make it even better, all of my money will end up in Casio's pockets.
My casio collection was built from you videos over the last couple of years. I have Duro on my price watches but haven’t snagged one yet. It too shall come, when the time is right...
Agree 100%, but you missed the perfect add-on strap option: you can get a soft black rubber, matching polished stainless buckle with black, white, blue or red stitching (to match the Duro seconds hand!) for $8 on Aliexpress! Works on a lot of sports watches in different colors. I've got one one a Timex Three GMT with blue stitching to match the bezel. Best "cheap" rubber strap I've seen.
Hello Jody. I am concerned all the time with this question: why do you, and many collectors, do not have watches with an Open Heart? For example, Orient Star RE-AT0002E00B
Its hard to justify the price of other quartz divers when this is available. Outstanding value for money. I recently replaced the crystal on mine after damaging the original, opted for a sapphire crystal with AR coating and a cyclops, only cost about £40, including having a professional do the replacement. I now have a properly certified dive watch, with sapphire glass, from reputable brand, all for less than £100. Amazing! I love how low it sits on the wrist too, with it being a quartz movement.
I remember when these were about 40 dollars and I even remember your older review. It is too big for me but a good bargain for someone with larger wrist sizes.
I recently purchased the blue version of the Duro and once in hand I have one comment. Wow, this thing seriously punches above its weight. It is a very quality unit (except band as you note). I paired it with a $20 medium brown leather band with cream stitching and it’s a looker and very comfortable. I’m not a huge fan of quartz watches but this watch and one of my Junkers are fantastic and keepers for sure. For the ~$55 one can’t go wrong.
LOL I also love the Duro stock resin trap - it wears great and manages heavier watches very well with comfort and excellent diver aesthetics. I especially like it on SKX-style islander *Spork* ISL-91 and my Casio *Arnie* AMW320R-1EV. The resin width and pressure extension baffles also make Protreks look slightly leaner! Would it be weird to buy another Duro just for the strap? Hmmm...
I'm all for quartz watches. Less need to readjust the time as often and I'm not constantly staring at the watch where having the second hand movement be smooth is a necessity
There was a time I would only wear solar powered multiband watches. The convenience is out of this world. Not running out of juice, not having to set it! All started with the Casio Lineage LCD-M170D-1AER. I had one other iteration of the Lineage models and then moved to ProTrek with the white camo PRW-6000SC-7 imported from Japan and later a GST-B100D-1AER (paired with the brown leather strap seen on the GST-S130L-1A). Lately... I've been more appreciative of the delicate movements and artisanship of mechanical watches though. Right now in love with the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight.
@@cinemenico the casio 10 year battery watches are awesome.. I have a AMW 710 casio which is a stainless watch, 10 year battery life.. Just a 1 dollar battery. Just set it and forget it
I'm patiently waiting on my second Duro. The one in transit is blue, and I plan to put it on a shark mesh bracelet. The original black Duro is on a red seatbelt nato from Sydney Strap Company. Great value, and still a regular part of my rotation.
For people who want this on a bracelet, the one off my Orient Kamasu fits very nicely, if a bit tight. I’ve been wearing my Duro on that for years and absolutely love the look.
Thanks Jody, watched the video ten minutes later re-bought a Duro!. My other half will be pleased thats 4 watches this month. Steeldive "Willard", 2 x Vostoks (Another re-buy) and now the Duro. Just 4 more watches.
In the UK they go for between £50 to £80 on eBay and even more but you can currently buy from Amazon prime for £47.92 shipped from the US. When I bought mine it was £45.10 both prices include all shipping and taxes import duty price you see is what you pay
I bought one of these this summer to go swimming on holiday, the holiday didn't happen but I only paid £40 in a sale. The first thing I did was put a vintage Bond NATO on it I bought for £6 off fleabay - Gekota if you please. The only niggles are the crap lume and the date is a bit small. It is a big unit but I've got 8 1/2 inch wrists and now I'm used to wearing it I've had to give my G10 to my daughter as it appears like a little girl's watch in size comparison.
And of course, thanks for the review. This is a great piece if you need something seriously waterproof and analogue, and don't mind the size. Many watches at this price might have a base metal body and chrome plating, but the Duro is full stainless. I had one for a couple years and it never gave me any trouble. I sold it for the same money I bought it for, after the case started to feel unnecessarily large. Totally recommended! You're not getting the utmost in finishing, but other than that it's a tank. The bezel action is surprisingly good.
Heh, I actually have three of these, a blue and the black on cheap but nice SS bands, and one more black on a silicone band to bang around. Great little pieces and if you time it just right, you can get some nice deals. I paid 48 for the black and 51 for the blue!
Wish it was available in the UK without ridiculous importing!! Have you had a look at the Casio MTD-1079D-1AVEF? It’s really lovely. Day, date, and LED illumination for £60 at Argos. Only thing letting it down is the printed dial. If they could combine the Duros pressed dial into the case of the MTD-1079D-1AVEF, it would be truly awesome. Great video. New viewer. Hi from Aberdeen ☺️
Love my Duro, it's a daily and over 2yrs old NOW I'm very hard on watches, have NO scratches on the crystal, and it's in very good shape. The lume is not great, have no issues with the crown, and the second hand hitting the markers is hit or miss(no pun intended). It appears to get better with time, btw. I've spent more on straps then on the watch and Love it... Spends most of its time on a StrapCode 22mm Super-J Louis JUB Watch Band Straight End, 316L Stainless Steel Solid V-Clasp Button Double Lock. And looks amazing.
Love my Duro, on a quality stainless bracelet from Long Island Watch. It’s a beast, barely fits my wrist, but it works, it’s my daily/beater watch. After a few years I’ll replace the mineral crystal with a sapphire one. Love the Batman version I got, the blue and black dial looks perfect, and the blue second hand is a nice touch. It’s a simple Miyota 2115 powered watch, but absolutely amazing for the price point. I wish they’d release one in 40-42mm with nothing changed other than the dimensions. Another piece I find rotating through for daily wear is the Casio Edifice EFB with the Stainless dial and white chaptering, it’s like a sporty more affordable PRX. Another decently sized watch but just a touch smaller.
Since you're fond of the bargain Casio's and variants, I'd be keen to see you review some of the more obscure 200m Casio alternatives such as MTD-1044A-1AJF or MDV-100D-1AJF to name a few JOMW (and thanks again for restoring my regret for not picking one of these up when they were somewhat cheaper :D)
I bought the black face Duro 5 or 6 years ago at the $40 price I finally bought the blue face one a few weeks ago for $57 love that watch can't beat it it's a beautiful piece
I own two of these. This first one I bought about two years ago and the new one I bought about three months ago. Somewhere in-between they upgraded a few things. The indices are now applied and not stamped. The bezel rotates a little smother now too. Lastly the brushing is a bit smother but it's very subtle.
I've had mine for a few years, I put it on a black rubber Zuludiver deployant strap, not long after I got it, and it's been fantastic ever since,, (shame the vanilla smell isn't quite as strong now !! ) Absolutely fantastic watch imho,,...
Like so many on here, my duro is my daily. I've put it through hell. Chipped crystal in 2 places, scratched case, bezel and crystal in several places and its only 6 months old. But that's exactly why its my daily. You so right about the resin strap. For 40 bucks that I paid for mine, I can buy straps all day long. Currently on a generic marine nationale. And I absolutely love it. I even put a magnifyer on it because my old tired eyes couldn't read the date. Awesom watch to be sure.
I love these watches, cheap, durable, and beautiful! I oil filled both of mine, switched to the Barton elite band and they look and function even better! I recommend this watch to everyone! Can’t beat it! If you don’t have one, get one. I have much more expensive watches but I can’t take the duro off my wrist!
Now since you did an affordable quartz diver, you should review an affordable quartz field watch. The 36mm Timex Camper is currently $50 USD on Amazon. I recommend to check it out and maybe review it in the future.
I bought a blue one yesterday. I like it a lot, I want a watch that is essentially care free. I’ve been wearing a Casio Tough Solar Atomic since 2004. This watch does everything I need and nothing else. I love mechanicals but they are all a bit high maintenance.
I love both this watch and this video. I have had it for a year and this is a constant wear in my collection and I love to change out the straps all the time to freshen it up (currently on a milanese steel mesh). Does not hurt that the second hand hits EVERY. SINGLE. MARKER! Lol, great watch and to anyone looking at at adding this to their collection I think this review is spot on!
I have one and I love it. I replaced the bracelet with a black and grey Bond NATO strap. That watch is so cool that it definitely deserves a re-review. I predict that for the next color Casio may likely put out a green one, the Duro "Hulk".
I love my quartz watches for their accuracy. Are there plans to review the Casio WS-1200H in the future? It is probably the most affordable watch with a moon phase, not to mention a unique feature for predicting fish activity.
Always been tempted by these but I just can't make the leap because of my 6.5" wrists. 41mm is definitely my absolute upper end and despite the value available here I just wouldn't be able to pull it off - definitely jealous of those that are though! Great review, Jody.
I absolutely love my Duro. I have it strapped up with a contemporary Bond. And I constantly get compliments on how good looking a watch it is. It easily sees more wrist time than all of my autos combined.
I found a tropical strap out of Norway. It uses the original mold from the 70s-80s. Then sold the other strap on eBay and came out ahead. Big shame the price on the black is up 50% from the summer.
I had a nice blue Duro until my son took a liking to it. I've missed it and just today got around to replacing it...they are very nice watches at this price point! I may even get around to getting one in black.
Nice review. I finally found my grail: it's a Casio too, but an Oceanus. I don't think you reviewed any on your channel (at least couldn't find when searching): the xxxxx-S100 model is beautiful and sturdy, and I can finally put my Tudor to a rest.
It's a beauty. I have two, one in blue. It is tough and durable to boot. I very much enjoy changing NATO straps on this one every few days to give it a different look.
Ten years? I remember a kid in high school wearing one of these; I remember us comparing watches. At the time I was wearing alternately a 1970s gold plated Omega Geneve with the 1020 movement, and a dark-brown faded dial and a 1930s Lord Elgin tank-style in 14k gold and a caliber 59 movement on a period X-style (the links expanded from diagonal parallel to an X shape- it was a nice feeling bracelet unlike later Speidel-style Twisto-flexes) expanding bracelet. That places it somewhere between 1998 and 2000. My daily wear watch after that was another 1970s Omega gold plated but in nicer condition (it just said “Omega Automatic” on the dial) with a retirement engraving on the pressure fit back, and a Poljot Buran chronograph. Anyway I’m rambling- Casio Submariner-style quartz analogue watches are way older than 10 years. Memory lane of a different time; I paid $125 for that Omega Geneve, $156 for the (really solid gold) Lord Elgin, $37 for the Omega retirement gift (marked down from the $42 the vendor wanted!), and $97 for that new, current stock, chrome-plated brass Poljot Buran with Poljot own 3133 hand-wind chronograph movement. Yes, I paid less for the Omega than what my friend paid for the Casio at JC Penney.
Ben Benjan I could possibly. But I am an antique collector, so I won’t. There’s more to life than money, like the beautiful 1915 Victor Victrola XI I picked up for $50 that works perfectly the other day.
I have one of these and wear it mostly on a nato. Most comfortable daily watch I've ever owned. I have a steel bracelet as well which is nice, not too heavy.

I'm impressed the second hand lines up pretty much the whole way around. Even on better quartz watches that's a rarity, you usually see it align for half a minute (mostly from 30 to 60) and be slightly off from there. This one seemed to hit the markers all the way through.
I have one and it tends to only be off slightly through the 30-40 portion of the movement. Definitely not bad at all.
Sold mine a couple of years ago and regretted it ever since, so difficult to get one at a good price in the UK.
On sale in Argos stores atm here in the UK.

Short story
I got my first MDV106 few years ago, from this very helpful and chatty guy.

I've been rocking the duro for like 5 years now

@@nightknight9415 just curious are you still doing this and have you had any problems arise from this? I'm thinking of doing the same just thought I would ask if you had any more insight?
My first dive watch years ago, and still a classic in my collection. Was surprised at the size but it wears so well, even on my 6.5in wrist! Slapped an orange Barton Brand Elite strap on it and it looks so good :)
I managed to get a price-matched, dual 10% discount and ended up paying a little under 39 USD for one yesterday. It’s an absolute steal at that price and I don’t regret my purchase.
With a little bit of “adjusting” of the hollow end links, I fitted a SKX “jubilee” bracelet onto mine 😉👍.
Can you bend them into place, or do you have to cut them?
Christian de la Rosa: Just a little bending is all that is required.
Hi Jody, this is really a bargain and I don't mind the quartz movement. I only wish it was solar powered.
Indeed. For that you need to go Eco Drive, which is a bit more, like $175USD plus.
Why would you want it to be solar powered? Moronic comment.
^don't feed the Archie-troll
Casio do a similar solar powered diver for $83 at WalMart. Day date but only 100m WR
craig watson Odd thing to say.
Not all of us suffer from a chronic case of bitch-wrist syndrome!
I keep my Duro on an oyster style bracelet I bought from Aliexpress. It was made for the Duro and it fits perfect.
Link? Thx
IMHO, for that sort of money, you simply can't go wrong!
I've bought three of these over the past five years or so. They are still going strong.
Twice I was asked "Is that a Rolex?"
I got 3 of them on clearance at Walmart in Ohio for $11.00 each.
I found a black & gold on clearance at wal mart for $10.
Got mine for 8 dollars clearance.lolol
@@djzrobzombie2813 I think probably in store only. A lot of the store reduced or removed their jewelry counters and it is this stores that cleared them out. Some store still have them at full price, if they are keeping the counters. Sorry, but you just have to check each store.
DJZROB ZOMBIE -only at wal marts that are doing away with their jewelry counters. All the more expensive watches priced at super-low clearance prices
@@sci-figuy6668 I just stopped at another and got 2 G-shocks for 18.99 each and another Duro for $11.99.
11:06 Jody, you can't tease us like this. The Duro is already my favorite budget diver. If they make it even better, all of my money will end up in Casio's pockets.
Shhhhh! 🤫😉
I picked up a black & gold Duro on clearance for $10 at wal-mart. One of my best finds ever.
I slapped $42 loud and proud on the thumbnail! Now $50 is a great price. That's beyond the rate of inflation, for sure!
I actually love that strap! Specially the way the keeper keeps the excess straps nicely strapped :-) beats any seiko rubber imho.
I've kept the provided strap on my black Duro, changed it to a blue resin for the blue Duro. No problem with the standard strap.
Hmmm...
Put mine on a good aftermarket steel bracelet and it's lovely. Paid £45 imported to the UK from US about 6 months ago. Such a rare watch over here.
I have 7 watches and after I got one of the Duros the rest have been riding the pine! Just love this watch!

So hard to find one in Europe. I'm interested in the lovely blue one.
That initial lume actually looks rather nice here. Handsome watch.
Picked mine up for $13 on clearance at the local wal-mart!

I put my black and gilt Duro on a milanaise, definetly transforms the watch!
Thanks Jody, watched the video ten minutes later re-bought a Duro!. My other half will be pleased thats 4 watches this month.
Steeldive "Willard", 2 x Vostoks (Another re-buy) and now the Duro. Just 4 more watches.
Bad Bryan! I forgive you mate.
I love the shape of the lugs. Gifted mine to my nephew on a black/grey bond and he loves it.
I enjoy your personality when watching your videos, I have now officially subscribed after 2 years
Thanks Nygel! Thanks for watching the channel mate!
Thanks Jody! You've just reminded me that I only have one Casio in my collection at the moment (A168WA) I'm going to have to rectify that shortly
Just One More Casio!
Love Casio quality and value. Hard to go wrong with Casio 😎
Love my Duro, it's a daily and over 2yrs old NOW
I'm very hard on watches, have NO scratches on the crystal, and it's in very good shape.
Best watch reviewer on UA-cam
Since you're fond of the bargain Casio's and variants, I'd be keen to see you review some of the more obscure 200m Casio alternatives such as MTD-1044A-1AJF or MDV-100D-1AJF to name a few JOMW (and thanks again for restoring my regret for not picking one of these up when they were somewhat cheaper :D)
I bought the black face Duro 5 or 6 years ago at the $40 price I finally bought the blue face one a few weeks ago for $57 love that watch can't beat it it's a beautiful piece
After all these years..it's still awesome.
I own two of these. This first one I bought about two years ago and the new one I bought about three months ago. Somewhere in-between they upgraded a few things. The indices are now applied and not stamped. The bezel rotates a little smother now too. Lastly the brushing is a bit smother but it's very subtle.
Interesting! I bought this one in January I think, so maybe slightly older than yours.
Picked up the black version today, on sale at Amazon, for $48 thanks to this review.
Got the amazing blue dial from Walmart for $35! Put it in a rubber blue burton and it rocks!
Is that unique feature attaching a hook and bait to it and using the watch as the sinker ------⌚️------🐟
Always been tempted by these but I just can't make the leap because of my 6.5" wrists. 41mm is definitely my absolute upper end and despite the value available here I just wouldn't be able to pull it off - definitely jealous of those that are though! Great review, Jody.
Not to worry. When you wear them with a long sleeve and, say, a denim jacket, the wrist size does not matter.
Just got my dad one for his bday; now we have matching Duros. My son will be getting one for his bday.
what are the markers and hands made of?
I absolutely love my Duro. I have it strapped up with a contemporary Bond. And I constantly get compliments on how good looking a watch it is. It easily sees more wrist time than all of my autos combined.
Just installed my 3rd battery, still going strong.I put an $8 silicone strap on it,looks great.
I found a tropical strap out of Norway. It uses the original mold from the 70s-80s. Then sold the other strap on eBay and came out ahead. Big shame the price on the black is up 50% from the summer.
Nice review but I believe the markers on the dial aren't applied but pushed through from the back of the dial i.e. embossed.
