I have the Duro. It was given to me as a Father's day gift. It sat in my watch drawer for two years because I thought it was a bit plain. Decided to wear it one day and realized less is more. I really love this watch. One of my favorites
Absolutely, you are right. About the Duro handset, I really hate when minute/hour hands go further than the central pinion. It should end there (as those in Timex wre). I don't know if there is a term for both-sides-of-the pinion hands. I really appreciate if someone can educate me on this.
$50 absolute winner. $170 hell no! Love the design on it, has a bit more character than the Duro. I did enjoy reviewing the Duro though, brilliant watch for the price.
That sounds like a lot of Timex watches to me: if you can get it cheap it's a bargain, if it costs a lot hard pass. I like them, but I see and accept their deficiencies.
Timexes always look cool, they certainly dig the aesthetics, but quality-wise they will struggle to beat a Japanese quartz movement even if assembled i n HK etc etc
I kind of like the Timex better. The dial is more interesting/has more going on without being illegible. It might not be a proper dive watch, but it looks like a great desk diver. :)
@@jonoedwards4195 I definitely think the case back is more interesting on the Duro because of the marlin. And if you legitimately do want to dive, the Duro is better. But aside from the marlin, the Duro looks like every other diver in existence. I like the way the Timex splits the difference between a diver and a field watch. :)
I don't like 22mm straps, they're too wide for my wrist, but here's a tip: Use a 20mm perlon. It automatically expands between the 22mm lugs and covers the spring bar.
I have a 16 year old Timex Expedition, and most of that time it was my daily. With Indiglo it's still going strong with only 1 battery change. 50m water resistant, been swimming with it many hundreds of times (not scuba) and no leakage. So I don't expect this would have any problem with casual use in the water either.

The Timex takes it for me because of the Indiglo feature. The one thing I always lamented in the 106 was that Casio removed the "Illumuninator" LED lights found in my beloved MDV102. This Timex, though I'm not a fan of skeletonized hands, will be a superior night read.
I would definitely go with the Duro. That case back and crown with the Induglo switch in the crown does not leave me with lots of confidence about the WR. I will definitely not go swimming with it, despite the WR100.

My normal watch for work and play is my Timex Ironman which is very durable and keeps ticking. Get what works for you! Nice video!
Timex has some really fun designs, awesome Indiglo, and a great price. But they're cheap, you can feel it after you've had a few watches. The hands move sloppily, they make a ton of noise. Printing and application is off just a hair. Timex is that brand that you just *want* to love but isn't easy.
I have an Expedition Scout 43 with a leather band. I like the simplicity of the dial, and the indiglo is always a welcome addition. The second had is sloppy and it’s loud! I can hear it in a quiet room sitting across over on a dresser. I got it in 2015 and it’s still running on the original battery. I have about twenty $100 or cheaper Casios, Timexes and G Shocks that I cycle through, so not using the indiglo very often extends battery life. I wish Casio would integrate the Illuminator function they have in some of their other analogs into the Duro. My only issue with the Duro is that the lume is basically useless
I am very impressed with Timex in recent years. When I was a kid, there was basically the iron man, the easy reader, and a few other models. Timex’s collaborations and push into more mid-range categories shows they’re proactive and looking to the future. Great review, my friend.
Love a nice "dress diver" . Own the Duro and a dress diver Timex with a red bezel that I changed up with the supplied ox blood leather strap on quick release. Collection grew to just over 200 last year but culling about 50 Invictas to make way for some new faves. Looking at a Sinn, Black Bay, Captain Cook, Lunar Pilot and of course.... a Casio World Time. The Speedmaster, Submariner and Exploer 2 will probably wait til a trip to the US is clear. Keep up the great work and congrats on your success. Loved the the chat with Russell and still hope to catch up one day for coffee and talk buying and collecting strategies.
People looking for a quartz diver are missing out big time on an Aliexpress Addiesdive/Steeldive sub homage. It's 40.5mm with the exact same Miyota 2115 from the Duro, 200M WR with a screw down crown and rolex style case back (biggest drawback imo as It needs special tools) fully lummed bezel insert and dial, it's really good lumme. It also comes with a metal bracelet (terrible pressed clasp, but solid links and end links) all for around $44, love mine.
Hi Jody--Excellent review. It touches upon a number of interests I've been entertaining. I have a list of watches that gets reviewed over-and-over before commiting to a purchase. No impulse buying here. I really like many of the Timex Expedition models (along with the Marlin and the T2N721). The Casio Duro is on the list, but there are many negative reviews about it. The Duro is below $50 USD on Amazon. Love the look.
Thanks for this video. I was recently thinking of getting the Duro as a beater dive watch to go on a 6 month work trip. Hence not having to worry about my nice watches. After watching this video I've just purchased the Timex instead. It's cheaper, looks better imo and it's not a classic styled diver with circular indices etc, so it actually sticks out as something different in my collection. I have a few divers with the usual styled bezel, circular indices and all that. Can't wait for it to arrive, and to switch it onto an olive green NATO!
I like both. I find it interesting that you didn't mention the overall matte appearance of the Timex including the bezel insert vs. the Duro which has a polished case, a glossy dial and markers too and therefore has a completely different visual "feel" to it. I like variety and tend to use the Timex for bike riding and the Duro for the pool and hot tub but especially appreciate the matte look of the Timex every time I wear it because it is different from most other watches I have and gives it a more casual yet purposeful look (as opposed to a more jewelry-like appearance) which I enjoy.
Great watch! Needed a holiday/beater watch so bought it after watching your review. Duro with 44cm dial is a bit bigger for my wrist. Got it on eBay for £40 absolute steal.
One big plus for the Duro is that it has a stainless steel case where the Timex doesn’t. I wouldn’t expect the Timex to delaminate like the Easy Readers I wore in the 1990s did (razor sharp edges, anyone?), but the watch may not be as durable in the long run. I wore my Easy Readers daily for about 2 years before the chrome plating started to peel, but that just meant I never had to open a case to change the battery.
Hi, Jody! Nice comparison video, both watches in my collection for a change! I'll start out saying I favor the Duro, not least because of the price point, along with the plusses you mentioned. On the Timex, I've found the skeletonized hands adequate in daylight, but they do seem to disappear a bit when using the Indiglo function...maybe that's just my eyes. The bezel has a noticeable bounce to it, doesn't feel as solid as I'd like, and the rotation has some play as well; possibly it was manufactured on a Monday! The strap, no argument that's it's a good one, although I have it on a leather strap at the moment. I hadn't thought about it before but I agree that it looks as much like a field watch as it does a diver, which is more than fine with me. Water resistance is not much of an issue, considering I'd never use it as a dive watch anyway. All in all, it's like a lightweight frying pan versus a cast-iron skillet...both are useful, but that cast-iron goes on forever. Thanks for another great video!
Except that the Glycine is Swiss Made, Automatic, has double the WR and is, at a minimum, about 3x the cost. That’s not a knock against the Glycine, it is still an amazing value for the money watch (I have one and I love it), but it’s in a very different class than the Timex.
Pretty sure those hands are like that to make it marginally easier to read with Indiglow. Another watch with backlight I own also has skeleton hands. Tbh the whole package is just a very solid field/sports watch, not a diver. Btw. if anyone wants a Chinese-homage alternative to the Duro I'd recommend the Addiesdive "Quarzmariner", 200m with screw down crown, Miyota 2115 and fully lumed ceramic bezel.
@@VinceRegan No, it's obviously a homage to the Submariner. It's just an alternative to the Duro because it has similar specs and price and is also a diver.
That's a fun comparison! I honestly can't say which of these two I prefer, but I'm tempted to say the Timex. The WR is moot for me since I wouldn't be diving with either of these and 100m is plenty for day to day or any situation I can think of where I would realistically fight myself both wet and wearing a watch.
It’s not going to be the best watch I’ve bought for under $100, but I do like the strap, and the Indi-glo feature. I bought a Bulova for $118, demo sale, and I bought a quartz chronometer with sapphire glass, 500 meter water resistance on a H-link bracelet for $80 on a first release deal. It’s still not a bad looking watch for the money, but it’s not a Nautis! Great review as always Jody!!!
Crackin nice watch! It’s on my list to get, my wife won’t be happy with you Jody, you have inspired a good portion of the watches I have bought, getting close to 30 in the last year!
I kinda like the Timex hand set. Go figure. BTW, the OCD in me truly appreciates that in the side by side comparison shots you've synchronized their times perfectly!
As owner of both these Casio and Timex, I trust the Casio from experience. Me and my family have broken a few Timex over the years. We have Never broken a Casio.
Excelent Review like always Jody! still would go for the duro but, I also like timex brand! I would get this one too. You should review the Timex Gallatin solar watch. I think it's also a pretty watch with not bad of a line for a budget watch. Oh. And of course the indiglo that like you say, it's fantastic.
I’ve had not great results in the past from swimming with a 100m Timex Expedition. That said, this had been on my short list in the past, blue/yellow dive dial, but 43mm and “desk diver” was a dealbreaker.
Good review of this watch. I have been really impressed with what Timex is doing with their recent releases; hand-wind, automatic and even solar. Recently, I find myself looking at Timex watches quite frequently. I have a number of new TImex watches; a couple of their solar Expedition watches, one Ranger and one Gallatin, a hand-wind Marlin and an automatic Marlin, and now I am considering one of the new Waterbury automatics. Not sure about this one; I would probably prefer the 41mm automatic Navi model, even though it is substantially more expensive.
One thing that I’ve noticed on my timex expedition that I note is similar on this timex is that the second hand seems to vibrate as it settles on each click. I can deal with 60 click quartz second hand movements but the vibrations look cheap. My various casios do not do this. Once again, Casio seems to have figured some fundamental detail out that others haven’t.
Pretty cool! Timex and Casio were both my first couple watches as a kid, like a lot of us. I remember when Timex started using the indiglo light, I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen.....of course only second to Reebok pumps.
Great job as always, Jody. The Timex is a curious hybrid of both field and dive-style watch but somehow comes across as way too busy and because of this doesn’t appear to possess a character of its own. I really like the band and would slap one on my black Casio Duro in a New York minute but alas, it’s only 20mm not 22mm. Hmmm....methinks Timex would like to keep the band to itself. Always liked the Indiglo feature and the batteries in Timex seem to run forever but for me, price point considered, I’d have to go with the Duro. However, in all fairness, Timex may do well with this model as the “new” Casio Duro has virtually no changes except the unfortunate loss of the marlin. I’m not sure if the addition of a couple bezel changes is enough to make people plunk down money for the new Duro so maybe the new Timex may sell decently. Then again, the Duro has a huge and loyal fan base (myself included) that might just say, “ Oh, what the hell!” and go out and buy all three. LOL!
Like the looks of the timex.. very intersting and it has it's own style as compared to other dive style watches.. doing it's own thing by combining the look of a field and dive watch..
A nice comparison, Jody! The Timex is just an SCD, a Superlative-Combat-Diver! 😁 I love the splashes of color. Though I don´t think that it beats the Duro, I ordered it. The falling price at the moment stops at 27 Euro! That´s what I call a great value!!
I love it when somebody cares enough about detail to synchronize both watches. Props for you Jody 👍👍

I now realize that Timex is very similar to the Glycine combat sub.
Thanks, I just looked that up - seems just right for me!
Huge bonus that it comes with ceramic bezel and BGW9 lumed dial / C3 hands.
Love the look.
definitely a keeper 😍💯.....Amazon here i come
Thanks for this video.
I've owned the allied coastline for a couple of years now (in a different colorway) and so far it's been a very reliable watch, even in water.
I like the Timex.
Always wear one for work.
Love the lit up indigo dial on it.
Probably get another, when my Expedition gives up
Great watch!
For me the Timex is a close second !! Thank you Sir!I too like the handset!
Looks similar to Glycine Models. Maybe bit smaller .I mentioned Glycine Earlier befor JODY Did in the video.
Except that the Glycine is Swiss Made, Automatic, has double the WR and is, at a minimum, about 3x the cost. That’s not a knock against the Glycine, it is still an amazing value for the money watch (I have one and I love it), but it’s in a very different class than the Timex.
Any chance of the monta noble being reviewed. Not enough reviews for it and your watch reviews I trust the most Jodie.
We doing homages to $50 watches now?
@@VinceRegan
No, it's obviously a homage to the Submariner. It's just an alternative to the Duro because it has similar specs and price and is also a diver.
Well i guess the duro will reign for a while! Thanks for the great review!
I just saw this vid and I like this watch! I can’t find this particular look on eBay or the second hand market though. Love the channel.
I bought one from a seller on fleabay after seeing one in your under $100 vid. Great watch for the dosh
Actually ordered one yesterday! 👍🏼
"Helooo" Jodi... your videos are always refreshing specially when you focus on budget watches..lots of love and respect from India
I like the Timex, the hands are odd, but not bad. The field watch style face is great and Indiglo is amazing. Of the two I'd get the Timex.
I have a blue & black & gold Duro & I think this Timex is a very good-looking dive watch.
This Timex looks great! Indiglo is part of the appeal to me too, much better than "lume" IMO!
I'm surprised no one mentioned the second hand hitting the marks. That is a nice thing for sure.
He did mention it
@@thomasdawe1837 I mean no one else in the comment
As an owner of three duros, the title definitely worked for me to watch!
As owner of both these Casio and Timex, I trust the Casio from experience. Me and my family have broken a few Timex over the years. We have Never broken a Casio.
I've had (to my recollection) two casio and three Timex over the years. I've liked them all and never broken any of them.
That black marlin is so beautiful. I have the blue version, the MDV-106B-2A and I love it, too. But man, I think I have to get myself a black one
Marathon does a similar dial. Date at the 4:00 spot...
Looks like military with diver bezel
One thing that I’ve noticed on my timex expedition that I note is similar on this timex is that the second hand seems to vibrate as it settles on each click. I can deal with 60 click quartz second hand movements but the vibrations look cheap. My various casios do not do this. Once again, Casio seems to have figured some fundamental detail out that others haven’t.
I always find "the awesome" a wee bit to late. Impossible to find any of the line in Canada right now. It's on my hunting list ! Thanks for the look.
Update, I found and bought the orange version for $90CAN, or $77USD. Very happy with it, still looking for the pilot style you have reviewed here.
I really like the handset! Minute precision is important to my job and they look fun but clear
LOL!
There are so many great watches I can’t wear on my tiny 5.75” wrist! Such a pity. Great vid!
Like the looks of the timex.. very intersting and it has it's own style as compared to other dive style watches.. doing it's own thing by combining the look of a field and dive watch..
Wish it was a bit smaller but love the design. I even really like the handset. Something about orange hands get me going.
My last two Timex were pretty poor quality, I really like the look of this one though, hopefully they have improved the quality control.
Picked one of these up for my dad - got it for £45! - goes nicely with his Timex Expedition field watch and Expedition Fleiger style pilots watch :)
Would love to see a Timex Atlantis review. One of my favorite watches at the moment
This is actually pretty nice 👍 thx for the inservice
A nice comparison, Jody! The Timex is just an SCD, a Superlative-Combat-Diver! 😁 I love the splashes of color. Though I don´t think that it beats the Duro, I ordered it. The falling price at the moment stops at 27 Euro! That´s what I call a great value!!
