You are my favorite artist. I learn so much from you. I am 60 years old but if I was younger I would go to your school. One day people will be looking at your art to learn how to become an artist, just like you look to other artist books. Keep up the great work. You Rock

Thank you Feng, this video has radically changed how I consume information. I'm finally picking up non-technical books again and am constantly seeking out sources of inspiration and reference. It really helps to know some of the foundation that underlies all of the great concept pieces and designs that you create

Thanks, FZD school. This video changed my life (quite literally). Before watching this video, I didn't have a library of reference books, but now I do! I value printed literature much more than before, and I have to say that I have a lot of the same books that Feng has now. :)

Also if anyone's interested in what those ww2 planes may have handled and fought like check out warthunder its a free combat simulator that explains stats, design and even has historical info on pilots and battles. Thanks again Feng

Thanks so much for making videos that distinguishes the importance of design "inspiration" & "reference". It's very easy to ignore stuff like this, and is often overseen - would be good for design institutions to have a brief lecture/presentation on this.

A treasure trove of knowledge in this video (as usual), thanks for sharing! The guy behind that "Battle" book has done a lot of cool stuff, name's R.G. Grant. I found one of his called "Weapon" at a local bookstore at about 1/4 the original cost, filled with a lot of useful knowledge, history and great pictures of weapons throughout the ages. Felt like a bit of a creeper buying a big-ass weapon book, but so worth it :p

a good example of using an insect is like in the new spiderman. The scene where he was fighting the lizard in the school, he crawled over him while making a web just like a spider would. scurrying across his body fast in a spider like motion. As a movie and game fan and artist I appreciate the small details and realistic references. The realistic the better.

his advice is true when you start designing you need to understand the connection of the materials your using to design with. Because your drawing but you do not really know what your drawing. understanding helps make sense of the design.

don't know what Damuscus57 thinks calling Feng not an artist a designer, all art is designed, and all artists start out borrowing their ideas to make their own designs, to design means to build from concepts, and that can't be done effectively without art talent and Feng is a great artist period.

Come now, I Robot move wasn't that bad. It crammed a lot of information from the book and set itself in an early part of the original main character's life. Seeing as the book was a string of short stories housed with the frame story of a character's life during the rise and development of robots, I thought of it as a holywood-ized untold short story that could almost have been another story in the book.

No :D the word "robot" is not from Asimov. It is from Czech author called Karel Čapek (1920) CHeck out R.U.R. at Wiki. Sorry, I had to, he is my homeboy as well as many and many of world known personalities which people in the world do not believe that all of them come from the Czech Republic ;) especially sport, art and science.

I love Asimov's "I Robot". I have all his "robots" books.
As you say I had to imagine how all that robots look like. The author says how tall are they, how shiny they are but It does not describe them so carefully.
I would like to see your interpretation of one of those asimov's robots. I hope it's not like the robots in the "I Robot" movie because I hate them.
