I just love watching two really good drivers banter while going around a track. They're hilarious. I just bought a 19SS but I also love the Mustang. I think they're both great!
SS 1LE is a whole different beast. It will put an even bigger smile on your faces then what was shown here and that’s pretty tough to do because both cars are a blast to drive.

Yes this is odd...every single other review has praised the Alpha chassis in the Camaro and talked about how much better it handles, the only exception being the GT350R, and the GT PP2 in one or two reviews.
@Fail Zero I am well aware...I've driven a GT350, and several Mustang GT's.
The problem is the regular and Perf Pack GT's feel like they are sort of riding on top of the suspension, not settled down in it. They need stiffer springs at least, as the GT350 and PP2 have.

I always liked Tiff for his racing driver's perspective and ability to be both fun and professional. Very sad to hear they dropped him. I'll be trying to keep track of him at Lovecars.
Correct me if I'm wrong. But isn't the European version of the mustang gt slightly underpowered vs. the American version? Edit: Yes it is. I found the answer to my own question. The European mustang gt is rated at 444 Hp vs. the full 460hp we get here in America. As great of a driver Tiff is. He had no chance of outperforming the Camaro.

In Aus the mustang GT comes with track pack standard which includes 6 Piston Brembo brakes and 380mm rotor. This didnt have that.
I'm not surprised the mustang lost. It's even slower than my FGX XR8 Sprint

HP is nice, but torque wins the day. Besides 10-15 HP difference in crank is negligible, even in a track setting. What will make a difference is that the Mustang is heavier, even with comparable options, its got >100lbs on the Camaro. All that said, there is no way there should be >2 seconds of difference between these two on this short of a track.

Farid Alghali the Mustang gets less HP when in Euro spec. A US spec 5.0 beats the Camaro rack time.

The only trim of Mustang that is close is the PP2 to the SS 1LE, and it uses R-compound tires to manage similar lap times.

@@FelixPfaltermann That is just one outlet, Car & Driver. Check virtually EVERY OTHER track review/result and you will find the Camaro ends up on top. Plus, I saw the 1LE lap that C&D used for the recorded time and while the driver had clean shifts, he kept it in 3rd gear coming out of several turns when he could've downshifted; which certainly would've shaved off time.

You are the first professional driver who thinks the Mustang has a better chassis! Everyone says the Camaro’s alfa platform is miles better than the Mustang or even M4’s. Also the Camaro didn’t have the optional magnetic shocks.

For the U.K. the Mustang GT is detuned to 444 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, a serious deficit compared to the U.S.-spec 460 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 420 pound-feet of torque at 4,600 rpm.
This review is very strange. Every other review I've seen of these two cars said the Camaro was better balanced and more controlable at the limit. I wonder if they changed the settings for Europe.
At any rate you guys should get the 1LE's...the version with the really good suspensions and test them. Like the Camaro SS 1LE vs Mustang GT PP2.

@@zerone9521 Not a fan of the looks on this generation of mustang at all. Looks good from the rear, but butt-ugly and disproportionate in my eyes in all other aspects. When if first came out, all I saw from the front was a catfish with its mouth open. Refresh makes it look slightly less so now, but mostly still there.

The Mustang has constantly outsold camaro year after year for pretty much a decade, even times when the camaro had better performance. They're just too damn ugly in comparison (aside from the ZL1). There's a reason they're going on a hiatus.
@@burgerbandit3646 Wrong. 2010 & 2011 saw more Camaro sales than mustang, and 2012 & 2013 were almost statistically even. That said, GM has relied almost exclusively upon the Transformers movie franchise to market the Camaro, so that and (V8) entry pricing also has something to do with the sales figures.
@@burgerbandit3646 Ugly is one thing...I think the current generation of Mustangs are ugly; though the refresh a few years back make it look slightly better than before (and less like a catfish with its mouth open). However, your point was that the Camaro was bland, which hilarious as it is easily one of the MOST RECOGNIZABLE cars on the road today. As for the hiatus, that hasn't happened yet, and it may not happen. The 2020 model will have a cheaper V8 entry in the LT1 which should boost sales a bit. Only time will tell.
