Great comparison. It would be interesting to try it with Magneride on a GT though just to see how that would close the gap, Either way on the road it would be near impossible to separate them anyway, so unless you intend to go on a track it's not worth paying the extra unless you really want the more garish looks of the Mach 1. Ok everyone all you have to do is go out and find a 2018-2020 Mustang GT with the Performance Package 1 or 2 and they still had the 460 HP 5.0 V8 and 420lb-ft of torque before Ford detuned the GT engine around 2021 to market the Mach 1 as the better car for $20,000 more.
Let's correct the mistakes. 1. A Mustang is not a Muscle Car. 2. The GT should have had Magneride. 2. The GT PP1 and the Mach1 have the same Torsen LSD. 3. It is probably possible to get more power on the engine of Mach 1 as well, so then it will manage 1 second faster around this track for half the price of that Mercis. you had more petrol in the GT where there was about 200 ks different which could account for more weight, which might make a significant difference in the 1 second time.

Great video and twin test idea. I'd like to see something like a 'half price heroes' and have, for example, Mustang v gr86 (when it arrives). Or Tesla model 3 v Nissan Leaf - for massive lols
So if you wanted more brighter instruments then why didn’t you just adjust them up? As for the seats,,,those are the comfort ones with power adjustments, heat and cooling. More sport oriented manual Recaro’s are available but without the heat and cooling If you were going to do a comprehensive comparison you should have gone through the options list of both of Mustangs, which is very important since there are so much available IE handling packages, numerous tires/wheels, aero packs, rear gear ratios, brakes, magnetic suspension, etc.
Save money and get a faster all around camaro ss 1le. If you are really willing to spend 60 grand on a mach1, might as well get a zl1 or C8 corvette. The performance of the mach1 and its price is I can’t really justify purchasing one. Maybe a collector car in the future 🤔
Considering all the suspension bits from the GT 350 and GT 500 the Mach 1 benefits from, it’s no wonder it is faster and better handling. Would be even faster with the10 speed auto.
Why rev the GT only to 6000, while the Mach 1 you rev all the way to 7400. That is 1400 rpms not being utilized, and all the power is on the top, so I dont believe the lap times are pure :(

@@TheSketch27 its an Australian market car, so comes with the PP2 but with some differences to the US market cars, such as no gauges and only the 3.55 diff.
@@thehastywombat looks nothing like a pp2
@@f4r20 as I said it is an Australian delivered PP2.
Which is probably more of a PP1.5, as we did miss out on a bunch of stuff.
The later models probably more noticeable.
I have a 2016 delivered GT and they were definitely marketed as PP2. Unfortunately by the time they actually arrived here they were missing a few things.
The most noticeable being the torsen diff (we got the 3.55 standard rear instead) and no extra gauges.
@@thehastywombat it doesn’t even have the wing… I doubt it’s a PP
Interesting comparison, both cars would be desirable for me. Good to hear they surprised you with their performance considering they are big cars and cover a broad range of driving styles. Another great review 👍😎
because the mach 1 is quicker at 1.5 seconds faster than gt
Cheers mate!
Thanks Glen!
@@aimanfitri0iv bet I could spend $20,000 on a gt and flog the mach 1 though. Now what..
@@davothegreat9990 i recommend the mach 1 because very good job in the track performance compared to the gt
Why didn’t you rev the GT above 6000rpm? Does it run out of breath above that?
Not sure. The coyote motor is known for feeling like a turbo because it makes most of it's power up high. The us spec GTs rev to 7200 rpm.
I saw that to. He had the rev counter on the get set at 6k and the Mach 1 at 7.1k. He was short shifting the hell out of the GT. Really believe that a GT PP1 revved out to redline would have matched the Mach1 in this track test.
Great review. A true shame Australia doesn’t get the better LSD.
its no biggy you can buy the handling package from Mustang Motorsport.. and of course the upgraded diff!
2:00 did you really just call the top end on a coyote lazy? Then what in the world is a Chevy V8? Because a coyote gets frantic over 5,000 rpm.
I have a 2020 Mustang GT and the comment about the lack of top end power makes no sense. Peak HP comes at 7,000rpm and the power builds progressively to the peak. I see the reviewer is repeatedly shifting at 6k. Can’t complain about lack of top end….when you don’t rev to the top end.
The GT should have been optioned with Magneride suspension the lap times would have been alot closer.
both are my favorite car for me i do love the mach 1 especially the colour jet fighter grey and orange for gt is my third favourite especially in ruby red and orange fury my second favorite car is the mach 1 my most favourite in this car going to last year's r-spec that one r-spec the most my favourite car
Thanks for the excellent review. For the money, I’ll go with the GT. If money was no issue, the MAch1 for sure.
Update: I finally purchased my Mustang GT California Special with the active exhaust and I’m loving it.😊
@@fidelis3123 congrats🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Magnaride is EVERYTHING DUDE !!
For $20k I would upgrade the shocks and put a supercharger and internals on the GT and hope it doesn't tear that Coyote in half.
money well spent!! if you can get one!! great review and the MACH1 is worth every penny! i think its worth adding how rare it is to find one? having a limited car 1 of 700 is pretty cool.
I know what the problem is. The steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car.
Could watch Atko driving on track all day, this is quickly becoming the best car channel. Love the camera work/no stupid music over engine noise etc.
Really love these track reviews that’s what got me to subscribe. Keep them up especially the comparisons that go on at the pub that can be settled on the track. Excellent driver reviews a real asset to the channel ….
more please.
WTF? Why are you shifting so early on the GT? You have the shift lights configured 1000 RPM lower than you did in the Mach 1?
the gt has the Mt82, which has had known lockout problems, when shifting too high on the revs.
I wonder how it would fair against the gt350/R? In the fighter jet grey, 6 speed, and Mach 1 handling package is the spec I would get. Great review!
Mate this means you need to get the camaro on the track now? O.o
Haha! For sure.
@@chrisatkinson7431 I would also like to see you track the I30N DCT vs the focus ST auto vs latests megane r.s. EDC... all the same specs
@@afrikengunner you and you're i30n again!! Mate they aren't that good. Get over it!

@@davothegreat9990 I think it's great, it can do, as stock, 1:10 around Wakefield. That's nothing to be sneezed at!
It is probably possible to get more power on the engine of Mach 1 as well, so then it will manage 1 second faster around this track for half the price of that Mercis. But of course a bit of the extra price is due to the fact that there is a slightly more luxurious interior in the Mercis, But I do not think it's worth paying double the price for that reason.
Great test👍 my son bought a GT, with mageride/Recaro. We’re not happy with the diff so we’re going with Trutrac soon. I guess this is a sore point for Mach1 buyers as it’s the diff it should of come with standard- bugger the Aussie fuel test that meant it got the GT LSD diff! Thanks
Agreed!
Thanks for that, interesting point as well! A proper LSD, will really add to the car.
The US GT Performance Package gets the same diffy as the Mach.
can i just point out Chris that you had the shift point set to 6k in the GT but 7k in the Mach 1.. this might explain the difference in the top end rpm you was explaining. also on your onboard lap you didnt ever once rev the GT past 6,4k rpm it doesnt make peak power until 7k
It's too bad that you people over there, don't get the special Mach 1 handling package with the bigger wheels and tires and other goodies. I hear that they help a lot on lap times. I enjoyed the video and your part in it.
yea it sucks, there was only 700 Mach1's available to the Aus car market. These things are like collectors items now
Those tyres were purpose built by Mich for the FM/FN Mustang, good review thanks
You're testing the base models?!?!?
Literally the GT PP2 exists...
And the HANDLING PACKAGE on the Mach1 🙃
And yeah... literally... you're shifting at 6k when the redline is 7.5k whilst complaining "there's no top end" ...my guy... you never left the mid range
Don't get me wrong this would be a FANTASTIC video... if you had done it right
Should compare performance and handling of the Mach 1 with Australia's own RSPEC. That would be worth watching
Your GT did not have the performance pack 1 or 2 and no magna plane suspension. Also I’d like the track test with the automatic.
you had more petrol in the GT where there was about 200 ks different which could account for more weight, which might make a significant difference in the 1 second time.
Th stock GT does not have a strut tower brace.
The handling package Mach 1 would rip the standard Mach 1 a new one
you were short shifting the whole time , why ?
I don’t know how little Chris is, but I think normal sized people like Scott Collie and myself would find the Recaro’s the right size 😂. Awesome video as always
@Carexpert can we please see Atko testing the current WRX on track, want to hear his thoughts vs the sti and see how close they are on track.
Hey Steve, good idea! It would be interesting to see standard WRX vs STI.
@@chrisatkinson7431 we believe in you to make it happen mate! Even a WRX vs Golf GTI on track would be cool to see!
Great video and twin test idea.
I'd like to see something like a 'half price heroes' and have, for example, Mustang v gr86 (when it arrives).
Or Tesla model 3 v Nissan Leaf - for massive lols
Thanks for that and also for the ideas...
And some of that 20k goes to the looks as well, which is better. Is there an on road review because most people would drive it on road?
So if you wanted more brighter instruments then why didn’t you just adjust them up?
As for the seats,,,those are the comfort ones with power adjustments, heat and cooling. More sport oriented manual Recaro’s are available but without the heat and cooling
If you were going to do a comprehensive comparison you should have gone through the options list of both of Mustangs, which is very important since there are so much available IE handling packages, numerous tires/wheels, aero packs, rear gear ratios, brakes, magnetic suspension, etc.
That is 1400 rpms not being utilized, and all the power is on the top, so I dont believe the lap times are pure :(
It's confusing. Were you really only getting up to 170 km/hr in a v8 on a racetrack? Was that mph? If only 170km/hr then wtf?
With Steeda suspension upgrades on my 2019 pp1 GT, i should be tied with a stock Mach 1
All that nitpicking about the GT is bullshit. You won't notice half that in real life. Both are great cars. The Mach 1 is actually overpriced really. But if it sells kudos to Ford.
Really curious about the details on the GT - was this a Performance Package GT? (with the strut tower brace, 6-pistons, 275/255 tires, K-Brace, etc?)
Based off the tires probably was a PP GT. I’ve got one as well and those are the exact wheels and tires it came with.
It didn't have the gauge pack in the center. Did have the michelin tires. Idk.
You can improve the handling by putting the steering wheel on the other side!!! Just kidding...Great video man!!!
Should have atleast had the performance pack mustang. Mach 1 would still have been better, but the gtpp would have closed the gap
The Australian delivered GT's all have the PP2 package - with some slight differences to the US.
Great review. A track review that actually talks about what we want to know for the track.
Rather the gt for 20k engine work suspension I’m blowing out the Mach 1 easy
I'd like to see how a 2019 GT350 compares to the Mach 1.
wtf is up with those shift points?
Best comparison ever on these 2 cars. I had the Mach 1, totaled it got a GT, still missing the Mach 1 :D
Hey Paul, could you do a review on the delayed Audi A3 with some comparison on hatch vs sedan please
Why did you not go against the pp2 that’s the comparison, not a regular gt not even close, check out pp2T lightning lap
that mustang gt doesn't have either the performance pack 1 or 2 which would bridge the gap to the mach 1 by a mile.
Did the GT have the BREMBO's or just the regular brakes? Thanks
I thought the Mach 1 didn't end up getting the different LSD because Ford Aus stuffed up?
