When I first learned these motors had nylon plastic planetary gears, I thought I might swap them out for steel gears. After some time to take my motor apart, it appeared to me that the gears are not so difficult or expensive to replace when worn and the nylon plastic gears are much quieter than the metal gears. I think you've done a great job on your videos showing us how these powerful little motors work and can be serviced back to good as new again.

Thanks as always for the kind words - they can be replaced in around an hour if all goes well and you don't have to clean *too* thoroughly*

Tip: Have an old speaker near to hand for keeping bits safe as they come off. Just stick them to the magnet, a quick win!!

I was looking at you tear my wheel apart. Its exactly the same except for the tyre brand. I suspect there is a problem with mine too, so best I take it off and have a look. Thanks for showing us how.

This Sound comes from Losing 1 or more Power Fase going to the engine, it caused by the controller or Weak Connections of Power cables

Possibly! This one was a dodgy clutch, but it does sound very similar:)

My motor was vibrating so I took it apart and re greased it, the vibration practically went away but when I went on flat grass it came back and I was back to square 1. Any suggestions please?

I intend to change the bearings of my motor, the one on the cassette side is shaky while the other is perfect, the only issue now is how to get it out as I don’t have the right tool, do you think is should just let the bearing stay?

    • @EbikeRepairs

Your local bike shop should have a bearing extractor, you could ask them for help? It makes sense to change it 'while you're in there'

I recently bought a rear hub motor from ebay, but the rear cassette won't spin backwards after tightening it onto the hub, any ideas what it could be? it spins freely off the wheel but as soon as i tightening it i locks solid, and won't spin backwards, the company sent a replacement cassette and that one is doing the same problem, any advice would be much appreciated.

You need a spacer behind the cassette! Bottom bracket shims work perfectly.

@@EbikeRepairs On Bafang motor diagram it shows the washer that has the locking bit on it, reversed from what the motor in the video has. The locking bit sticks outward and sits inside the forks.

probably need a spacer ring between the cassette and the hub. the end of the hub is jamming onto the cassette gears, sounds like.

youe controller is spitting out phase output in the reverse order., spinning the motor backwards, and tghe one way clutch just keeps spinning./not engaging because it is a one way clutch. Reset your controller with the self learning plug or just physiically swap your phase wires around if you want a cowboy method.
