  • This tutorial shows you how to exchange the sprocket/freewheel on your Unimoke electric bike.
    The standard sprocket has 14 - 28 teeth while the new one has 11 - 32 instead, giving you more torque in 1st gear and a higher top speed in 7th gear. You'll still feel resistance pedaling even in the highest gear which hasn't been the case with the standard sprocket.
    This update should increase the overall range of the UNIMOKE, also making it more flexible going uphill.
    11 - 32 Sprocket:

    FWIW, to avoid drive chain drop outs at the front sprocket, check your chain tension carefully , especially if you install a wider gear range cassette.

    Bought an nb power 2000w r hub kit from Amazon with 135 mm dropout and fits perfect. EXCEPT the 11to 28 freewheel cassette is too wide..i had to remove the entire cassette, chain and derailer to ride at all.. 14 miles yesterday.
    NOW I'm looking around to see how to get a narrower cassette setup Any ideas? Is it a thing to remove some sprokets and add spacers to the back so i can tighten the sprockets together to fit or do they make a narrower splined shaft? The splined shaft measures 37mm side to side.. seems I need a 30 mm.?

      I have no idea honestly. And this is a 2 year old question. but similar with the recoil on a briggs I believe but small engine recoil starter. I took it apart and cleaned it. I greased the balls that engaged the dog. The grease was to thick/tacky for it to engage the balls and they stuck without moving outwards to engage. I have no idea how these cassettes work as never looked into them but if you just regreased it maybe?... the issue? maybe...

    I have a DYU T1 and want to take the limiter off and change the cog size like yours but haven't a clue where the limiter is. Maybe in the motor?
    Do you think I will need to instal and LCD screen? It has not got one at the mo.ent, so no visible magnets on the rear wheel.
    Any advice at all would be awesome.

      You can't unlock the speed of this bike unfortunately. And you can't just add a display. You would need to change the controller with a compatible display, which has the customisable option to change speed limit. You would need to do some digging on where the controller is on the bike, What type it is (sensored/sensorless, size, output), and the connections it has (phase/throttle/hall wires ect), and take it from there. Good luck with that lol

    Hi @Urban Drivestyle. I have the same 11-34T cassette freewheel and i have a problem on the 6th and 7th gear, I feel vibrations when pedaling. I thought it was the chain's fault, maybe it's not compatible with the new freewheel because the old freewheel cassette has slightly thicker gears than DNP and i should buy a chain a little more narrow. Can you tell me if it works ok for you and you don't feel any vibrations when pedaling? And can you recommend me a good chain to change the old one? Best regards.

      @UrbanDrivestyle  2 роки тому +1

      Hi SGA, thanks for your comment.
      So you feel the mentioned vibrations in the feet only in 6th and 7th gear while pedaling? Check your derailleur and the chain itself - maybe it's jumping or the derailleur needs some adjustment in the gear ratio between both highest gears.
      Your cassette/chain might also be worn out - have you made sure they're compatible with each other? We currently have two different chain types available - you can find them on our website!

      Hi@@UrbanDrivestyle,thank you for the answer but I have already solved the problem this weekend. The problem was with the chain because it rubbed between the sprockets, this DNP Freewheel has slightly narrower sprockets than the old freewheel. Coincidentally, I found a solution on a forum, namely to try an SRAM chain that is a little narrower than the stock one, 6mm vs 7mm. Now I don't have any vibrations when pedaling, everything is ok. I solved the problem with an SRAM PC-850. :)

    Hi, so I have the exact same freewheel replacement, the 11-34T DNP Freewheel. I had dropped off my ebike at a local bike shops to install the freewheel. They called me and told me that they need to perform a Rear Hub Overhaul to replace the freewheel. This would cost an additional $55, ridiculous. I think they were trying to con me. Does that sound right to you guys?

    • @UrbanDrivestyle
      @UrbanDrivestyle  3 роки тому

      Hi joyrdr,
      thanks for your comment!
      They weren't necessarily trying to con you as they might have to change the entire hub motor lid with cassette/freewheel mount due to compatibility reasons. Keep in mind, that there are screw-on cassettes/freewheels and plug-on ones!
      We hope that helps!

    • @joyrdr
      @joyrdr 3 роки тому

      Thanks you very much for the response. Here is what I found out, the axel nut could not slide off of the cable, the cable connector was too big and the axel nut could not be removed. They tried sliding the Park Tool FR1.3 removal tool but the axel nut was 19mm and the removal tool can only accommodate up to 14mm. I just had them "force remove" the old freewheel and install the DNP 11-34T Freewheel. I also had them install MT5e Magura Hydraulic Brakes and Magura 203mm Brake Disc Rotors. Vielen Dank!! Oh and they didn't charge anything extra for removing the freewheel.

  • @ozzie444

    Wouldn't NeverSieze be better on the threads before putting the new freewheel on? Grease has a tendency to dry out especially when under pressure and not moving like when the freewheel is being torqued tighter from pedaling and NeverSieze will always stay as it was originally. Also there's pretty much zero chance of the freewheel coming loose because by pedaling the tendency is for the freewheel to always tighten.

      Anti Seize

    • @ozzie444
      @ozzie444 2 роки тому

      I thought I said that in my comment? Yes use anti-sieze (Never-Sieze or whatever it's called depending on the manufacturer), not grease. Grease can dry out. When I changed my freewheel, when I took it off the threads were bone dry with nothing on them. After some time this would have become corroded and siezed on making removal very difficult. Luckily for me I only had maybe 100 miles on my Cruiser so removal of the OEM freewheel was fairly easy. Put the anti-sieze on like you sell it, as the saying goes...lol. Watch this video from Haidong Bike. FYI Haidong is the manufacturer of Himiway eBikes. I did mine exactly this way, easy.......ua-cam.com/video/0oPSRQmpjWE/v-deo.html
