- Hi !
This is "rosetta stoned" from 10 000 days.
The tuning is DADG.
no tab, sorry.
This bass is not a Wal, it's a custom made bass which looks like a Wal MK2 model.
For more info about how I record, etc ... please read my profile first ! ;)
Bye =)
PS : please feel free to rate & comment ;)
Why do people act like it is a contest. I never claimed to be good. I am in a different place in life....married with 3 beautiful daughters and no time left to play. Remi can gladly take over the crown. I started the adventure in 2006 to try to help people learn how to play the songs we all love. When did it turn into a competition? Remi is an amazing musician and kudos to him. Cheers to all
TOOLbassplayer that’s what I’m saying bro. You guys both are so appreciated for doing the covers. Everyone adds there own little spice to the cover. Justin wouldn’t want us to play it exactly the way he does.
TOOLbassplayer why are comments disabled on your vids?
Facts
i have been watching your covers for almost over 10 years. I really like to watch other people's take on JC"s obscure bass lines and variations. is that a wal replica?
@@pat8437 because over 10 years ago I got so many hateful comments (for things that were not true) that I simply didn’t want to deal with it at that time so I just disabled the comments. That was a long time ago...I’d be happy to turn them back on. However, if people don’t have anything constructive to say (negative is OK as long as it’s constructive) then I simply delete the comment. I’m too old and tired to deal with immature commentary on a social media platform.
watching this cover i couldn't help but think how criminally underrated justin chancellor is, awesome cover btw
thanks
I'm sure it was just you. Everyone who listens to tool knows how good justin is at bass. Kinda glad paul left the band
The bassline that starts at 6:02 is honestly one of my favourites of all time, so much fun both to play and listen to.
DUNNN DUN DUDUDUDU DUNN DUDU DUTIRIR DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNN DUDTITITIT DUNNNN DUN DUDUDUDUNNNN DUDUDUN DUN DUN DUN DUN... DUNTITITIT
that guitar riff too i can listen to it for hours
the pick slide at 3:00 gives me chills every time
Dude, that bass sounds amazingly clear. And another great cover from another great band :D
Sick! Nailed it.
axeofcreation Dude, love your Tool lessons!
Good job! But, that effect (05:47) make's me laugh
Pache co that has to be one of the most ridiculous things i’ve ever heard, but i love it
you gotta respect the "pwang pwang"
remi zik is it a Bassballs?
That should’ve been played on the D string it’s an MXR bass envelope
Dat tone *-*
I don't understand why on the studio albums we can barely hear the bass? It sounds so beautiful! This video proves it! Great job on the cover man!
Holy smokes, amazing cover! That tone is just fantastic, and a pretty perfect rendition of the song also. Blew my mind, man
Brilliant play-through man, love watching bass covers of Tool songs just to properly see what sometimes sits hidden underneath the other instruments, playing along to this with my guitar with your audio is more fun than playing along to the original
There are a lot of Tool songs, and literally pretty much all of them, but this one I enjoy the most. Great job, man! Thanks your work and video, allowing us to look into the song a bit closer. Cheers!
You're amazing too TOOLbassplayer I started watching your vids ever since the infancy of my bass playing and can't tell you how much i appreciate you have contributed to UA-cam covers
Man you rock. Ive only been playing for about a year but your vids have helped me amaze my wife and friends. ive learned a ton by watching you. keep up the good work bro.
Wow , this record is perfect and really make us head banging with very high emotions , man you rock
Bout goddamn time you attempted this beast, Remi. Why are all these clowns coming on my channel telling me that I suck and you are better than me? Since when did this become a contest? LOL. Nice job, brother. :)
8/10 from me as well. I didnt necessarily "play" my video better but I do think it's a tad bit more accurate to what Justin is playing. Hope you have a nice holiday
I already forgot when and why I subscribed you Remi, but damn man, you are good at this, and I'm coming back to this channel every once in a while.
Great job man!!!! Love your tone and feel. You captured the feel.
This literally broke my brain. Excellent, you're the best,
your bass tone is amazing. well done
Love love love the tone!!!!
ZOMG!!! I WAITED THIS FOR LIKE FOREVER!!! YOU ROCK REMI!!!
i've waited for you to do this song for a long time, you are amazing at bass. big fan
Its really incredible to see how far youve progressed remi!
I remember the first video of yours that i watched and it was your vicarious bass lesson. Oh man did i fumble around trying to time the pull offs and open string just right.
I gotta say im glad i play both electric and bass, Jones and Chancellor are so similar in their play styles but different at the same time.
You are the essence of Tool bass covers
Been a long time man. Great to see you doing this song!!
Fantastic job, sir. Such a resonant tone on that bass! That fx @ 5:50 was a sweet sound, reminded me of old "The Mollusk" era Ween. Thanks.
Nice work man-love that weird timing bit from 7:05 (wtf IS that?!)
I think it is in 5/4
It’s in 5/4 but a 3/4 part. Basically it’s | 123 12 | 3 123 1 | 23 123 |
It's Justin, passing the goddamn butter
@@darkySp "pass the butter" is perfectly 3/4. always wondered where the "god damn" fits in
@@3three3three3three there are four syllables in "pass the butter", so I dunno how you're counting 3/4 with that.
Great cover, as always :)
Awesome cover man. It sounds really great :)
My favourite thing to do is watch covers of this song by different people on different instruments and you sir nail the bass part 👌
thank you
Your videos are awesome man ! Thank you for sharing this ! : )
Awesome job, as always :D
Godlike cover !
Excellent Cover and awesome Shirt...
and both in one Video
Really awesome! Just watched 4 times in a row!
/bow
I wish I had 1/10th the talent that remiiiiiii has!
Another fine video. Thanks for posting.
I think I'll stop working and grab the Fender Jazz!
Really good quality, and even better performance.
awesome cover as always :]
7:03 mi favourite part, im a bassist after all :D
Same, sounds really fuckin' badass
You mean bassass?
The rhythms at that part took me a while to learn properly. It's this weird 15 beat 5 against 3 thing. I find following the kick drum makes it easier.
very badass bass line
Great job on this song man....I am envious of your Wal Bass. Such great tone. So expensive though lol.
nice, it sounds like a killer bass, love the tone
I love this bass!!
Love that song, good job
This is an epic cover.
Sounds really good man.
this was amazing.
you're welcome. I'm always glad to make people start playing bass :)
Got chills from this.
once again your covers are makeing me late for school... damn you and you atitude with that bass!
that is one sexy fucking bass!
Zach Wood It is a custom bass made to look like a wal (Note the headstock). He probably did not have 5000 to spend so he got as close as possible.
RudeDudeVooDoo ahh I see. Its soundbis great I give this guy mega props. Thanks man haha
RudeDudeVooDoo and the waiting ...
remi zik Speaking of waiting, when can we expect to see a new video? : )
RudeDudeVooDoo as soon as i have more free time :'(
Killed it!
fantastic!!!
let the battle commence..
Your bass tone is awesome
dude, so good.
I can't thumbs up this video enough.
great job man
Love that sound :) i'm jealous for that bass ;)
AT 3:10. favorite part of the song!!! great work on the vid!! you got me into Tool!!!! :)
Nice bass man! Subbed!
Great job! Bad ass
very very nice, man
awesome shit man
ive watched this 8 times in the last few days, my life is average 👽
miss more from you. lets see more! :D
great cover :D
Watching the wall is really trippy. The lighting changes as if you were independent of time and space; the X-files being from the flaming stealth banana. LOL tremendous job
Cheers
The tuning is DAWG!
Ok, seriously i love your bass equalization.
AWESOME!!!
Thanks for your feedback :) !
Good Job!
Thx for sharing this video man. Actuly all of them. I'm learning off you. Every time I watch this I learn something new that I missed so still putting the pieces together. I gota say though love to hear the way over that other bass you have. The white one is a way right haha. But seriously thx your fucking great dude you should do a few more songs from tool haha.
VERY nice !!!! love it ^_^
You strike those strings with so much authority! I fucking love that shit!!!
fab!!!
Amazing work! I'd love to see you do some Opeth songs too!
the cover was awsome,..and da shirt was genius
7:05. Like dam that's as good as anything ever created on bass!!!
godamnit man that bass is nasty
@remiiiiiii
I think I just noticed it more in this video or something. its sick. Probably the lighting.
fuck yes!!! you're the man remi! thanks for this
badass
I know I asked on another video (that I can't find to continue on) about your pre-amp - but now I'm too curious about the pickups and whatever else you asked for to make it like a Wal clone - or is this the result of asking a luthier for a Wal clone without any particulars?
Since it sounds so damn good I have to ask - I can't wait to have my bass (started) finished so I can use that pre since I already have all the pieces.
If you're feeling extra nice I'm also curious about those knobs - stacked but they still flare out at the bottom - I could barely find regular cylindrical stacking knobs.
The tone is great!! I LOVE IT!!!! Blows me away! What kind of pickups and effects are you using to make the bass sound so strong and cut the mix extremely well. Im a guitar player so i might not be able to identify what effects are used to make a solid bass tone like yours.
Very nice Remi! Nice new camera.
You gotta do "Space Cadet" by Kyuss on that acoustic bass man haha.
Hey, you should get a custom logo made that says "Remi" in the Wal logo font for the headstock. I think it would look real cool just have someone on fiver make it and print on waterslide decal type paper.
B-E-A-UTIFUL
so far this is the best Tool bass cover on youtube (imo), but i still play it a little differently :)
Justin approves this video
Thank you so much ;)
Every member of tool is absolutely amazing. But justin chancellor is my favorite. Love his creative riffs. And his tone. And when you have seen him live. He humps the shit out of that bass. Lol. This band is amazing.
thats pretty awesome that u replied xD
cheers to that.
Nice job man! not an easy song to cover.
How did you get that tone dude!
@JEFFREY VOGT it isn't a Wal, it's a Wal clone according to the description. I'd like to know what brand electronics are on it.
Suprisingly enough you really dont need much to get chancellors tone. I usually set my amp (Marshall Valvestate AVT2000) or any amp for this matter, bass at 12 or 11 o'clock, mids at 1 maybe 2 o'clock, and treb at 12 oclock or 00:30, and if youve got a presence knob oh man play around with it, let your ears read the music 🎶
This is on the clean channel aswell, for the distortion channel (like used in the intro to H) gain at 12 o'clock i believe? This is the barebones framework to how both.
Jones and Chancellor set their base tone. Ernie ball slinky strings help aswell.
Ironically enough i play my bass through a guitar amplifier which techincally isnt recommended but it seems to handle it fine.
My multi instrument amplifier had been stolen so im working with what i got.
@@rokenbok101 Guitar amps and effects aren't ideal on bass, but you can make them work.
My sister's fiance was in a band a good while ago and bought a BOSS GT-8 multieffects when it was brand new and he hasn't used it since they disbanded in like, 2010 or something. He let me keep it for a while and i totally made it work with my bass. I can get a convincing tone to a Wal with a PJ bass, but it's not exactly the same because i'm not using a dual humbucker setup and Wal basses do have very unique electronics all around, that respond differently, especially in 7:04, you can hear how the preamp "emphazises" the high mids when you play the A and D string. I don't know how i can explain it, but you can hear it. Ironically, Justin has lots of high mids present in his tone, so putting your bass through a guitar amp or multieffects in my case, actually helps to get those sharp midrange notes.
Welcome back Remi its been too long
when exactly ?
@JMorr1029 He told his luthier what he wanted and then the luthier sourced the parts, build the bass and sold it to remi. I doubt remi even knows exactly where the parts came from.
that tone
@fc1ofc i figured, but it's still a nice looking bass. where did you order parts? i'm thinking about building a bass.
