Fortunetly now it's possible to get very close to "Wal" without selling a kidney or two. There are some guys making some cool multi-coil pickups, like Rautia Guitars in Finland, Herrick Pickups in the UK and Chris turner in the USA. Lusithand Devices makes a great lowpass filter preamp that comes very close to the Wal preamp when matched with the right pickups.
Ferocious cover! I found you when I was searching for that bass tone in Lost Keys, which it sounds like a few others here did that too. What 10,000 Days era Tool taught me is that the bass and guitar are interchangeable, hence neither one more/less important than the other. cuz... that bass fuckin' rocks just as hard as guys using electric guitar. Like, if bass and guitar were either masculine or feminine, the riffing in Tool would be androgynous.
@@Brankas definitely! H. is pretty incredible, and rather elusive, like I've never thought to look up bass covers of that one. I'm sure there's plenty of them out there by now...

You honestly deserve way more subs on your channel mate, as all of your videos I've checked out are excellently executed just as they sound sonically calculated; your overall tenacity and commitment to emulating Justin's bass tone is immediately apparent and unrivaled by many. Jealous of your setup, but thanks for blessing its grace to all our ears. Cheers 🤘🔥
I looped it in my DAW. used 2 delays, 2 chorus and 2 distortion pedals. As a courtesy to my neighbours I decided not to go down the amp feedback route 😂
Great cover! I'm transcribing rosetta stoned atm, it's wild how different I interpret some of the riffs. Every cover/tab online does certain parts different, some very wrong, some make me question my own hearing. It gets so confusing from the six minute mark.

Take a look at the No Quarter I put there, it's a different take from the Salival and the quality is as good as the Salival one, also the bass line for the song is way different and more intricate, and the solo is way more interesting on this version imho, also the extended Opiate with the whammy shenanigans would be interesting! Hey! I left a comment on this video a year ago about the tone being great. I'm trying to recreate Lost Keys and then learn Rosetta Stoned and play it all in one go. How did you get the feedback effect without actually doing all those cranked up speaker feedback shenanigans that Justin needs to play it live ?
I got pretty close with an octaver and/or whammy, flanger, delay, chorus and distortion. Still not perfect, but workable. I want to try an ebow to get that never ending sustain, but I don't have one...
@@Ilyas702 Yeah, e-bow is pretty much the fix for it, but... 100 euros for a gadget you don't use too much in practicality is a sizeable sum to swallow
@@LordSesshomaru584 Forgot to mention I used a whammy with 1 octave up as well. Not sure about the expression pedal. I've never tried it though.
Wal -> Boss Tuner - > Kinnatone Modded rat -> Boss GEB-7 EQ - > Eventide Pitchfactor (whammy) - > Voodoo Labs Fuzz - > Sansamp GT2 - > Moogerfooger Clusterflux (flanger/chorus) - > Delay -> tremolo - > Demeter VTBP-201s - > Focusrite Clarett. The grit you hear is mostly the Wal with some brightness from the demeter and a tiny bit of dirt from the kinnatone. The grit stands out more from using a high pass filter when eq-ing. @@josephsummers9116 brilliant, thank you for sharing. I am.keepimg my eye out for a wal. I dont play live any more, and the tribute band has long since disbanded, but I just need to scratch that itch. Plus I think JC's tone is imo the best bass tone there is.

The fact you put both Lost Keys and Rosetta Stoned together makes me happy. I will own a Wal someday.

I had no idea that background sound in lost keys was bass.
Justin walks right up to his stage amp and gets the feedback through the pickups picking up the magnet in the speaker.
I love how eerie it is!

Do parabol+parabola, just thinking of that fuzzy chorus makes my mouth water!
great tone

Which filter are you using on the "stripped down" @09.34 part? Sounds great.
Just a stock envelope filter from ableton. No actual physical pedal. If i were to use a pedal though i'd go for the MXR bass envelope filter

2 distortions, chorus, 2 delays and looping in the DAW to remove the strike of the 11th fret and keep a consistent note
