Hey thanks for this! After my hernia, I've had off and on issues with dribble, and never stopped to think the reason it was so erratic might be because I'm slackin' on my pelvic exercise. It's been so erratic, but now that I understand where it's coming from, and that that's the same muscle area that's relaxing when it happens, I think I address it better.
I’m a 68 yo male. Have had this problem for 10 years and resorted to wearing pads. 3 months ago I started Mounjaro and have lost 30#. I’ve been doing abdominal and leg exercises religiously 4x/day for 2 months. 2 weeks ago I noticed the post dribbling stopped. Not sure but maybe the weight loss and exercises was my remedy.
Look if it works for you, that's what matters. That said, the nausea which is typically a major side effect of a diabetic drug like this, ultimately achieves weight loss (which may have been the contributing factor in your dribble improvement?) occurs not only from fat but also muscle loss. That's maybe not such an issue when you're in your 30's or 40's but after that, it seems maintaining, let alone building muscle becomes much more challenging. Other health complications so many of us encounter as we age, also make the kinds of exercises that maintain and build muscle, harder to do. So I'd want to me mindful of that potential downside.
I think I might just have cracked this problem. After you've finished, place a piece of tissue over the end. Then......you know that muscle inside you? The one you pull back on if you want to stop peeing? Pull back on that three times, then cough (although I don't actually know whether that actually helps). It certainly improves the situation for me.
Since I live solo with the luxury of total privacy, after urination I just leave the dum thing out after urination and walk a few steps away until those last few stubborn little drip drops evacuate. I've decided they're better on the floor or ground than in my pants .
I've had a little post-void dribble for YEARS. I'm 46 years old, and in my late 20s this only happened when I voided sitting down. In the past 5 years or so I get a little dribble when standing up too. I use the urethra milking every time, and it helps, but doesn't get everything out most of the time
My Cardiologist and my regular medical doctor both agreed to put me on the daily 5MG dose of Cialis after I complained about the dribbles. My dribbles and urgency to urinate have disappeared. The change was evident within two weeks for me. I am 73, been on the Cialis for over a year, and it has given me a great relief from the urine issues.
For me i noticed a strong correlation between doing heavy squats and deadlifts and the weakening of my bladder. Whenever I did those exercises if i wasnt also doing pelvic floor exercises everyday I start getting dribbling then more frequent urination and then eventually actualy pain and discomfort till I stopped the heavy lifting and focused on pelvic floor exercises.
I'm 53 and had this happen for the first time last year, I started doing kegal excersies and it has really helped, not 100% but the vast majority of the time, I've put it down to ageing but I think I'll speak to a doctor after this, thanks

Thank you for this. I’ve had this condition for several years. Very annoying. I’m always putting a piece of TP on the end after going. I thought it was due to several Ureteroscopy procedures for kidney stone removals that may have damaged my urethra tube.
I've had this issue for several years now. I became self-conscious about it when the leakage would sometimes show through my khakis at the office. I finally started using Depends Shields to at least prevent embarrassment at work. I am now seeing a urologist, and I have been diagnosed with BHP. I am considering the options but the after-effects of the surgical option do not sound worth it to me.
There are alternatives like obstructing the arteries supplying blood to the prostate by inserting some kind of innert polymers spheres (it is a temporary treatment that lasts about 3 years as far as I know, and has to be repeated I think). My father has BPH and he lost the opportunity to operate. Now his prostate is too big and hard to operate, also his health is too fragile; the best thing is to find a good doctor and operate as soon as possible so you avoid a harder/troublesome surgery.
Finasteride is no miracle drug, either. I have been on it forever and still dribble. Everything is weak, even during sex. I am 59. Very low “water pressure” in all scenarios.
Had this since a back operation at 32 yrs old. I do a courtesy manoeuvre and crush my bladder with stomach muscles. Squirts another stream. Have used this all my adult life. Difficult with people at the urinals but it works
The nerves come out from same area in lower back. Ever since my low back operation if I take even a mild hit to the testicles it makes my back hurt immediately.
Have you tried the milking technique she mentioned, instead of "crushing your bladder with your stomach muscles" lol which honestly is a hilarious phrase. You just do it right at the end of your piss and it squirts out the rest
It's just social anxiety for some. Me. Until I learned to Zen out. I've always had "stage fright" (unable to release at a urinal with company), living life with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake. Tensed up for the fight that would realistically never break out. That problem got me to kind of meditate, day dream, bliss out, when I was at the urinal. Relax. Some success, but more importantly, hanging around "after" and relaxing even more, would result in the second act. The dribble that otherwise would have ended up in my pants. Try it! Relax! Take ten extra seconds to reset the area and clear the pipes...
I've had this issue for years, but because of Multiple Sclerosis with a normal prostate... I am only 36, been using the milking method for a decade and been doing penal exercises since I was 15 when I had my first kidney and bladder failure. I could have swore you said your name was Renal Malik for a second.
I knew someone would say that before me... I always use that expression 😆 I've actually been having a good deal of luck with not dribbling lately. I'll watch the whole video, it might have an explanation.
It's amazing how much we can learn from this channel. I never even realized that men have taints. I looked it up and she's right. Everyday's a school day, thanks Dr. M.
I've noticed that after sounding playing with my lady friend with a long sound that goes through my prostate I don't dribble for a while so telling me that it's reams out the prostate and when she milks my prostate no more dribbling I have my prostate exam once a year and so far all is good ! I think prostate playing is good for it and it's fun to!🤩👍
Thanks, never seen or heard anyone talk about this subject. I am 41, and have been dealing with this for years. My worst dribble case happened twenty years ago. It lasted for almost an hour, while my girlfriend at the time was impatiently waiting for me in the bedroom 😔
When I was a teenager I noticed this problem and didn't like it. I suspected urethra clamping as the cause so I tried sitting down when I go pee and discovered my bladder was allowed to completely excavate and the problem was completely gone. Over 4 decades later I do the same thing and it still works.
Same here. I find when I'm standing it feels like I'm still clamping to hold urine in. But when I just started sitting and urinating I relaxed and everything naturally flows out.
I solved my dripping problem by taking Havasu Saw Palmetto 3X Formula with Nettle & Pumpkin. This supplement addressed both my prostate and urinary issues. Keep in mind that you’ll need to take this supplement for 3 to 4 weeks before you’ll see any results, so be patient. I bought mine from Amazon. This product worked better for me than just plain Saw Palmetto.
Honestly if I die I hope someone deletes my UA-cam history… There will be FAR more questions raised than answered compared to my browser’s search history. Thanks UA-cam suggestions for adding another log on that fire. Great informative video though!
Had this problem for years until about 2 years ago when I changed my diet to very low carb. This completely stopped within a few weeks and many other health issues have resolved too.
@@tvfan14 I switched to a Carnivore diet (effectively zero carbs), and it stopped the dribble. That was not one of my goals with Carnivore, just an unexpected side benefit. I don't know if it was the sugars, carbs, or pesticides in the grains/plants that caused it, but switching to Carnivore stopped it within a few days. ALL of the plumbing down there works better after a few weeks to months on Carnivore. If you have ANY urological issues (ED, premature-E, low-T, etc), I would highly recommend Carnivore. It's not just for weight loss/maintenance.
@@tvfan14 It's as much about what you are not eating. I cut out all processed foods all vegetable oils all pasta and bread biscuits sugar etc, basicly eating mostly meat and eggs with a few veg here and there.
Hey Dr. M, great video, I'd love to add a wrinkle. I'm in my late 40s, and I've always had a slightly enlarged prostate. I figured out the milking thing years ago, it works great, but there is something else. I think most people, including myself, are in too much of a rush to urinate and be done with it. When I'm finished, if I close my eyes, and I take a couple of deep breaths and relax, I can always get more urine to come out with little effort. In fact, sometimes a lot of urine comes out. Take your time people, make sure you're actually finishing before you run off to the next thing. I'm sure it's better for our health to get all of that urine out, and who knows, perhaps the rushed way in which people urinate plays a role in some of our health issues.
Always the best in jammy’s when you feel it went down the side of your leg…lol. Like others have said the taint push will definitely get most of the after flow but there’s always a little more…but at least not much.
This will be the first time I've ever admitted this..... I've been sitting/squatting to pee for years now. Zero dribble since i started this process. I started doing it after reading about troops in the trenches of ww1 and why they all sat down the way they did to urinate. 😅
Hi Doc. I live with RRMS and have done for maybe 27 years. DX 2001. I am fully aware of urgency and frequency, have medication to help yet this video is brilliant. Thank you, I will possibly get my prostate checked, but think that as you mentioned the 3rd possibly aligns with MS, I shouldbe okay for now. Roger
It might sound crazy.. but depending on how much caffeine I drink seems to have a major impact on if I dribble or how much I dribble. It's very annoying to zip up and go to walk away and out if no where a blast of urine comes from no where
Have had problem since I was 15 sometimes just common! Been to 5 doctors over the years! Prostate cancer effect it! But no biggie! As long as your psa is below 5-7 you’re good! Blockage is possible! Not common again! Always get it checked out though! Glta Thx for the video! ❤
I've always had post-void dribbling as long as I remember. I doubt I had an enlarged prostate as a kid, and it has happened even during those periods when I've exercised a lot and surely had strong core muscles. I've thought it's just because after using your muscles to squeeze out the last drops of urine from within the urethra inside your body, a few drops still remain inside the penis because there are no muscles around it to squeeze. And that's why men squeeze or shake the penis to force out the last drops of urine from inside the penis. My trick to get the few drops left inside me out is to walk a few steps in place or squat a little. That movement forces out the pee, which I catch on a piece of toilet paper. Then it won't happen when I walk away from the toilet.
I've had that, it was a few drops, no biggie, I did not even knew this was a thing. Two years ago, I've stopped cycling, started running, and strenght training, because I had no time or mood for cycling, and some six months after making the switch, I noticed those few drops I was waiting for started to disappear.
I run every day and in good shape to be over 65. I started riding a bicycle for just 1 mile every day. Post dribble went away. I look at it as an external prostate massage. May not work for everyone but a must try
I have this issue on and off and I am 42. I have had my prostate checked out and I am good there. I think I have noticed a pattern in my particular situation, but not sure. I am starting to believe my issue is related to working out at the gym. I put in 2 hours at the gym 5 days a week and each day I do an ab workout. When I do the ab exercises, I concentrate very hard on the contraction and quality of the exercise to get the most out of it. It seems like when I am on a good gym routine, this issue becomes more frequent. I sometimes have to take breaks due to injury, sickness, vacation, etc.. When my gym routine falls behind, I have noticed the problem is not as bad. Am I on to something Dr. Malik??
I have heard that heavy weight training (especially squats and related heavy lifts) can weaken the pelvic floor muscles. I also lift weights frequently and noticed my symptoms first began after I had increased the intensity and frequency of lifting weights... Was lifting daily and very heavy. It's when it all started for me
You could be onto something. Maybe the frequent ab exercises increases abdominal/perineum/peritoneal tonicity adversely affecting one’s ability to completely relax to void urine completely from the bladder.
@@bababooey8688 They are called female incontinence liners; they do NOT make them for males. They are less bulky than a male incontinence pad and more comfortable.
Thankfully I don't have this problem, but I've always been OCD about bathroom stuff like pee and poop, so I've been doing the pelvic floor exercises and stroking down the shaft to get every last drop out ever since I was a teen. Had no clue I was even doing an exercise that targeted my pelvic until years ago. I definitely find I have a stronger control now since I'm 39.
The size of the toilet seat matters too. To prevent penis constriction a bigger seat should be used. For me seating or standing doesn’t matter. But smaller seats made it worse, once you stand up. 😢
A Slight forward bend in the knees helps. walking 4+5 steps away then then to the receptical and 'peeing' again. Anal plugs helps with prostate issues, including hyper activity bladder.
I never had this issue until 7 years ago after I had my left testicle removed and it's a very frustrating problem and I try to do everything I can to avoid it but it never wants to go away. 😑
I have had this for 20 plus years. Lumbar nerve damage (3 lumbar surgeries) My last surgery was dec 13th last year...im basically placing a paper towel in my underwear after each trip to the bathroom. Also had a cervix fusion. Flo max was my best med to date. But i can no longer take it due to an allergy. I'm getting a spinal stimulator on march 1st Hoping it helps to a degree
I went through a period of having this issue. I thought I must smell of urine. But since becoming a strict carnivore the problem has disappeared. Maybe it’s because of the Zinc in red meat and organs. Apparently a healthy prostate has a lot of zinc in it. But an inflammation prostate has lower zinc levels. So does deficiency zinc cause inflammation of the prostate. Or does the inflammation prostate cause the deficiency of zinc.
I’ve had this issue since childhood. Even caused me problems with my mom, during laundry day. I stopped using white underwear because of it. I always knew that because of this issue I would have prostate issues when older. Now I’m 51 taking prostate medication due to an enlarged prostate. The way I found this out was through a mri for something else.

For me, I was originally prescribed Tamsulosin from a urologist that insisted my prostate was a problem even though my flow was strong. After 3 days, I was unable to get even a drop out. He said to stop using it. Next, it was Flomax. even though I protested my prostate was not a problem. After a month or so, when my system decided to urinate, it just did so, within seconds. Totally unable to stop the flow. Then I learned on my own about sphincter muscles. Put 2 and 2 together: not only did the flomax open up the bladder, but also the sphincter muscles as well. I quit flomax. Today, my sphincter muscles deal with a new problem. Dribble, sometimes. Mostly when I first wake up. I figure as the urine volume in the bladder nears the bottom, the residue has less pressure from the bladder to expel, perhaps the bladder thinks it is about through and starts closing the upper sphincter muscle, and the last half ounce just barely squeezes out - it dribbles out. When I am active and about, things work much better.
I mean it's pretty simple. Your bladder basically has a faucet like a garden hose connects to, and of course the urthea is a hose. When you turn a faucet on, water is pushed through the hose and comes out. When you close the faucet, water pressure is cut off so water stops coming out, but that doesn't mean water that was in the hose just disappears
I notice this really lessens when I do those pelvic floor muscle exercises mentioned here. I get on the "good girl/bad girl" machine and do squeezes. Issue was largely abated. I also let the muscles relax after the initial urination and the rest comes out.
I had this for about a year. Coincided with when I was diagnosed with diabetes and later weird pain in my lower abdomen. Thought I had pancreatitis or something, but doctor said no, got me to reduce my glucose and the dribble went away along with other diabetes symptoms and abdominal pain. Never figured out what it was. I think I had swelling somewhere internally that probably made this happen, but I'll never know. I had no idea it was more common that I assumed.
I deal with the dribble when I urinate by spreading my legs as far apart as I can. When using a public restroom this means using a stall. Solved most of my urination problems and eliminated the dribble.
Im a kidney transplant patient and ive had this for quite some time. When i was on dialysis i lost a lot of muscle and have nerve damage essentially from head to toe from the high levels of creatine. After transplant, the donor kidney ureter was too narrow and i developed hydronephrosis. The transplant and my native ureters were swapped and thats when i developed this "void dribble" shes probly a rough old plumbing job down there so i gotta wriggle and dance to get the juice flowing so to speak.
Those of us who've 'had a prostatectomy have also lost use of the muscle normally used to shut off the urethra. We have been taught to use another muscle which works quite well except under stess eg laughter. So we also have to wear man pads to soak up these drips. It works.
I pinch the the lower part of the head quickly as I’m finishing up. Kinda acts like a pump, takes out pretty much all of it. Learn to relax the muscles around that area too, it helps. Apply milking technique too if needed.
We have a proverb in Turkish which may be loosely translated to English as: Whatever you do, last drop is always with your underpants. I suppose one may reduce the amount of after-dribble, but never totally get rid of it..
Ever since I started sitting to pee I basically eliminated leakage. It’s also more comfortable and my muscles are relaxed so that may have something to do with it.
When i was not as active with a job that required alot of sitting, this type of dribbling became an issue that popped up out of nowhere. Once i joined the Gym and would get up at least every hour it stopped ❤

The change was evident within two weeks for me. I am 73, been on the Cialis for over a year, and it has given me a great relief from the urine issues.
For me i noticed a strong correlation between doing heavy squats and deadlifts and the weakening of my bladder. Whenever I did those exercises if i wasnt also doing pelvic floor exercises everyday I start getting dribbling then more frequent urination and then eventually actualy pain and discomfort till I stopped the heavy lifting and focused on pelvic floor exercises.
i have also noticed same thing
This is a fantastic and professional video. Clear, good, serious content. Thank You.
I'm 53 and had this happen for the first time last year, I started doing kegal excersies and it has really helped, not 100% but the vast majority of the time, I've put it down to ageing but I think I'll speak to a doctor after this, thanks
When you get over 70 the puddle and piddle is much worse. You will think it all went in the toilet and look on the floor and 🥴
@oldgoat50 something to look forward too 😉
@@toxicmartocI had all the tests last year with ultrasound and a probe down the urethra and urologist said I had a small bladder. There is a procedure to open it. Let's say the OG is not ready for this yet.😮
I'm 54. I started stretching. It stopped the dribble. I stand up straight to a slight bend backwards when I urinate. Worked for me.
couple of drops or is it more than that?
@@John.Doe-OG A couple of I'm in a hurry. Then again. Who wants to stick around a smelly urinal. My girlfriend won't even hold it for me that long.🤔
What kind of stretches do you do?
How often?
Standing splits. I stand up. Let my feet spread until it hurts. Stay in that position until the pain go away.
Then I slide my feet together. This strengthens the inner thigh muscle. Repeat.
When I urinate. I have a slight bend backwards. I noticed all men tend to look down when urinating. so we won't miss the bowl. When I bend slightly backward. I use the pelvic muscles more.
First time I did it. It hurt. No dribble. Complete empty bladder. It take practice.@@loucypherdamorningstar
Thank you for this. I’ve had this condition for several years. Very annoying. I’m always putting a piece of TP on the end after going. I thought it was due to several Ureteroscopy procedures for kidney stone removals that may have damaged my urethra tube.
I don’t have this issue but still watched the vid. Gotta stay informed
✌️☮️🖤
It cones from pulling too much on it throughout life for pleasure
Consider low carb, or Carnivore diet. Try Carnivore for two weeks, it will likely fix your issue.

Finasteride is no miracle drug, either. I have been on it forever and still dribble. Everything is weak, even during sex. I am 59. Very low “water pressure” in all scenarios.
Always helpful information. Thank you Dr. Malik.
Had this since a back operation at 32 yrs old. I do a courtesy manoeuvre and crush my bladder with stomach muscles. Squirts another stream. Have used this all my adult life. Difficult with people at the urinals but it works
Funny you say that because this started happening after i had a spinal operation….i wasn’t sure if it was connected……..
No matter how you wiggle and how you dance the last drop always goes into your pants.
And never forget shaking it more than twice, is playing with yourself!
Should have said "No matter how much it's jiggled & danced, the last few drops always end in your pants". Get it right would you
2 gerbenway lol yuo shake it more than once & yer playing / it! But theres 3 shakes inna shook$
I knew someone would say that before me... I always use that expression 😆
I've actually been having a good deal of luck with not dribbling lately. I'll watch the whole video, it might have an explanation.
@@grbenway I heard it was once!
I think prostate playing is good for it and it's fun to!🤩👍
Elaborate how this milking process is done……..
You just went right out there with the sounding, huh.....
Thanks, never seen or heard anyone talk about this subject. I am 41, and have been dealing with this for years. My worst dribble case happened twenty years ago. It lasted for almost an hour, while my girlfriend at the time was impatiently waiting for me in the bedroom 😔
Try using a female incontinence LINER; it is more effective than a paper towel and less bulky than a male incontinence pad.
Thanks Doc happens to me all the time since I had Tumour removed from my Bladder 70yr old Male.
Thought I was the only one till I read the comments. I've finally found my people.
Honestly if I die I hope someone deletes my UA-cam history… There will be FAR more questions raised than answered compared to my browser’s search history. Thanks UA-cam suggestions for adding another log on that fire. Great informative video though!
I have Multiple Sclerosis and this is one of the perks
It seems to be one of the perks for mild cases of cystic fibrosis as well.

Had this problem for years until about 2 years ago when I changed my diet to very low carb. This completely stopped within a few weeks and many other health issues have resolved too.
What do you eat?
@@tvfan14 I switched to a Carnivore diet (effectively zero carbs), and it stopped the dribble. That was not one of my goals with Carnivore, just an unexpected side benefit. I don't know if it was the sugars, carbs, or pesticides in the grains/plants that caused it, but switching to Carnivore stopped it within a few days. ALL of the plumbing down there works better after a few weeks to months on Carnivore. If you have ANY urological issues (ED, premature-E, low-T, etc), I would highly recommend Carnivore. It's not just for weight loss/maintenance.
But why would it help. Very interesting
@@waqidj I'm not a doctor, I don't understand the why/how, I just know it fixed it.
True, I wonder if they’ll do a study looking at the relationship with anxiety.
Always the best in jammy’s when you feel it went down the side of your leg…lol. Like others have said the taint push will definitely get most of the after flow but there’s always a little more…but at least not much.
The most important video on youtube
Right above this video was a guy’s announcement about his upcoming live stream. 😄
Too funny!
This will be the first time I've ever admitted this..... I've been sitting/squatting to pee for years now. Zero dribble since i started this process. I started doing it after reading about troops in the trenches of ww1 and why they all sat down the way they did to urinate. 😅
Great video Doc.
It would be cool if you could make a video about Hourglass thinning and those kind of conditions.
Thanks for your content 👌🏼

It might sound crazy.. but depending on how much caffeine I drink seems to have a major impact on if I dribble or how much I dribble. It's very annoying to zip up and go to walk away and out if no where a blast of urine comes from no where
I noticed for me there is a direct correlation when I drink alcohol.
Try using a female incontinence LINER; it is less bulky than a male incontinence pad and more comfortable.

Thx for the video!
GOD JESUS BLESS YOU FOR ALL YOUR JOB YOU DID AND HELPING US
I run every day and in good shape to be over 65.
Thank you for a comprehensive review of this subject!

Does the position you take when urinating help?
for example, ordinary sitting position instead of standing or a seated squatting position.

Well I'll be, never thought about pushing the underneath. Worked like a charm. Thanks Doc!

A competent urologist is incredibly hard to find. Expect to try out 3 before you find--but do find one and make sure of what's going on.
Tamsulosin IS Flomax® 🤦♂

The three stages of old age: first you forget names, second, you forget to zip up, and third, you forget to zip down.
Males have a prostate, so there is another "valve" that Dr. Malik mentioned.
I've actually done the milking thing before I knew it was a thing. When I did it for the 1st time I was taken aback by the outcome
Lucky for us guys in OC that you relocated! Yeah!
Those of us who've 'had a prostatectomy have also lost use of the muscle normally used to shut off the urethra. We have been taught to use another muscle which works quite well except under stess eg laughter. So we also have to wear man pads to soak up these drips. It works.
Try using a female incontinence LINER; it is less bulky than a male incontinence pad and more comfortable.
Drip drip drip...just cleaning out the filter. 😂
I just turned 44 its time for a prostate test thank you Doc 🙏
I pinch the the lower part of the head quickly as I’m finishing up. Kinda acts like a pump, takes out pretty much all of it. Learn to relax the muscles around that area too, it helps. Apply milking technique too if needed.
We have a proverb in Turkish which may be loosely translated to English as: Whatever you do, last drop is always with your underpants. I suppose one may reduce the amount of after-dribble, but never totally get rid of it..
The American version: Shake it, jiggle it, or dance, but the last two drops, always end up in your pants.
I found sitting down makes a big difference in stopping dribble. A big bonus is that I get it all in the bowl.
Ever since I started sitting to pee I basically eliminated leakage. It’s also more comfortable and my muscles are relaxed so that may have something to do with it.
