I’m in my 60’s and began sitting at home to urinate. Mostly this keeps the area around the toilet cleaner. Less splash. Also, sitting allows me to be more efficient.
I have the opposite issue, I guess it's a personal body shape issue, but if I sit sometimes the pee flies too high, hits the bottom of the toilet seat and that makes a lot of mess.
As you know, urination is a conditional reflex, if someone has the habit of peeping in standing position, he will get urgency and may dripple while walking to toilet On the contrary, when used urinates while sitting, on standing and walking to toilet, the desire becomes less, so giving him the chance to go safely avoiding urgency and dripping. Got my idea
I’m in my 30’s, and have been urinating while sitting since probably my mid 20’s. It started as an effort to keep the toilets cleaner for my female housemates, and I just never stopped. It’s also a nice little break to sit, as I’m on my feet the majority of the day. I typically only use a urinal when I’m in public for hygienic reasons.
@@michaelpark5681 wow, it must be very sad for your manhood to be so fragile that it hinges on something as insignificant as whether you sit or stand to pee.
I’m in my late 60’s and have been sitting to urinate for decades simply because it’s easier to keep the toilet cleaner. Splitting chores around the house and having to clean the bathroom taught me fairly quickly to make less of a mess. When you clean your own toilet it becomes very obvious how messy standing to urinate is. The other benefit is it’s more comfortable.
Growing up my mom would forbid us from standing at the toilet to pee. She didn't care what we did anywhere else but she was not going to tolerate splashing and have to clean it up.
I’m 70 years old. I recently recovered from a prostate Transurethral Resection of the Prostate procedure (TURP) and Laser Lithotripsy treatment for 10 mm kidney stones. I just started to pee sitting. What a difference in voiding efficiency, comfort, and toilet cleanliness! 👍
I began sitting instead of standing in my early 20's when I was living and sharing a bathroom with several women. I started doing it at first just to be courteous and ensure the seat was always down and free of drops of urine. Their appreciation encouraged me to continue to do it after we went our separate ways. I tried to teach and encourage my sons to do it with little success. Now in my 50's, sometimes I stand and urinate in a urinal if I am in public, otherwise I always sit.
Crisstto, perhaps your not comfortable with your sexuality! I’m 65 and a MAN and I sit when I can to urinate and have done for decades, it’s more relaxing and more hygienic! Why mothers teach their male children to stand is simple madness!
I've been self-conscious about this for a longggg time, but it's good to know it's actually more beneficial. It just makes more sense to me. I'ma keep doing it.
So happy to learn this from the video and the comments. I "trained" my husband who is 93 with dementia to sit when urinating. He was making a mess. I'm glad it's not demasculating.
If I could up-vote this a hundred times, I would. I am 68 years old. For the past few years, I most often urinate sitting down. I have BPH. This video is 100% accurate per my experience. At a younger age, I had issues dribbling and incomplete emptying. Those symptoms progressed until I began sitting to urinate. That helped. Guys, we hear about the effects of aging on women (menopause), but we don't hear about the effects of aging on men. Guys, it is not an assault on your masculinity to sit down to pee!!
Thank you for mentioned the perception of this being an assault on your masculinity. Men have become so thin skinned in this day and age that it almost seems they are less masculine and more fragile because they can’t take a little criticism. Do what is good for your health not your ego.
I'm 68, I stand to pee during the day, but at night when I am half asleep, I sit to pee. Don't want to wake up enough to focus on the target. This has worked for me for 60+ years.
Yah, that's been my feeling too. I have to laugh that some of the people say it's more manly.. Gimme a break, stop equating manliness with silly actions as if it was that fragile.
65 here, and I also sit at night for exactly the same reasons. Easier to do when you're not totally awake, and also you don't have to clean up the edge of the bowl afterwards from casual splatter.
I am 61 years old. I started sitting down to pee over 20 years ago, mainly because of the mess made by standing. I think most men are unaware of just how much urine splashes around when standing and virtually goes unnoticed by the naked eye. After awhile, it's the nose that becomes aware of the smell and a toilet that isn't cleaned on a regular basis. And it's not just the toilet but the area around where the commode is located.
@@jhoughjr1 It's not about aiming. It's the splash of tiny (and I mean tiny) droplets of urine, mostly invisible, that splash back from the toilet when the jet hits the inner walls of the toilet.
There's another reason for sitting rather than standing. My wife brought this to my attention probably about 40 years ago. When you stand your pee hits the water at a very high rate of speed. That causes your pee to splatter not only in the bowl but outside of it as well. She showed me the wall next to the bowl with a ultraviolet light, and just like blood or semen leaves a stain on the wall your pee also leaves stains. That flew right over my head I had never thought about this. So I've been sitting almost just as much time as we've been married. 43 years married this year 😅.
I agree. It can be a little inconvenient to have to take your pants down, but it will save you from cleaning the pee off the walls. You can scrub the toilet and the floor, but until the walls are wiped down the bathroom will never smell clean. It’s really kind of gross and unsanitary if you really think about it.
For longer than I can remember I’ve been peeing sitting only when I’m at home. Just to ensure that I don’t have splashes around the toilet bowl. When I’m out sure I always stand but at home I always sit. Thank you Dr Malik. Good to know there’s nothing wrong with it.
Reducing the mess is biggest motivator because it doesn't matter how perfectly one aims there's always splashback up & out of the bowl, even when trying to minimize that by aiming for 'the beach' area. The other thing is reduction in the noise of it when others are trying to sleep.
Totally agree. I actually started sitting to pee while in prison years ago. Shared a tiny cell with another guy who insisted on it to keep things cleaner and quieter. Now my wife appreciates it as well.
I'm 75, had the TRP at age 52 for enlarged prostate. Symptoms returned about ten years later. Urologist recommended I drink a bottle of red wine every night, which I do, greatly reducing my symptoms. Sometime in the last eight or ten years I started sitting when convenient and always before going to sleep and after getting up. I found, and this was confirmed by the urologist when I had a visit a few months ago, that I can completely empty my bladder sitting. One benefit is I almost never get up at night to pee. Note that at home my dad always sat to pee because as a young man he was a merchant seaman, where the drill was to sit, to avoid missing the head due to the motion of the boat.
I’ve been sitting for about ten years. In my 40s I began noticing that if I stood to urinate, I would get a wet spot in my pants after bending over or squatting. My doctor recommended sitting for a more complete evacuation of the bladder. It works, and it’s less messy.
Same. Transitioned to sitting over a decade ago. However, sometimes I have to stand in public washrooms, which is awkward because this can often take a very long time.
More recently I've been sitting at home to pee. It's just more comfortable and in those rare circumstances when I wake up in the middle of the night, it's easier to pee and fall back to sleep. It also feels like I can empty my bladder better. Great topic and well presented!
nothing wrong with that do, what's most comfortable for you! I grew up in a house of 3 sisters and 3 other women in my household at different times, so to avoid headaches I joined them! keeping the toilet seat down!
still peeing sitting down as of today! those women are long gone now but it is a habit right to get used to doing something that sticks with you! hopefully
I felt the need to pee sitting down for about the last five to 10 years. I initially started just doing it at night. I'm 50 years old with BPH. In recent years I have started to take both alfuzosin and finasteride. Can't say that either one of those have helped. I've actually been stressing about it for years, believing that "real men pee standing up." So hearing about how some men carry their stress in their pelvic area makes a lot of sense to me and give me some sense of relief.
I'm 51 and started sitting about a couple years ago, mainly to keep the toilet area cleaner. Also, sitting when I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night half awake, definitely makes things a lot easier.
Yes I’ve been doing this for years, I found you seem to push it out when you stand like trying to rush it out . But when you sit your more relaxed and it just flows naturally.
I've been one of the lucky people who have had multiple kidney stones throughout my life. I found sitting to be beneficial in helping to pass the stones as well as a more comforting position when in agony. The wife also appreciates the cleanliness, avoiding the splatter from standing. However, when out in public, it's back to standing.
The nephrologist I consulted after a kidney stone a few years ago told me to drink enough fluids to keep my urine volume at or above 2.5 liters a day. It has worked so far, but it makes drinking and peeing like a second job. Worth it, though.
Multiple kidney stones as well. Sitting also lets you recover the large ones to impress others. Better able to keep the pressure up to force it out. Last stone I passed was long and took real focus. Started mostly as I clean my own bathroom. In public restrooms standing. If I really feel the need to stand, I can go outside, I live in the country.
400-600 mg of magnesium helps to avoid forming kidney stones and lemon water or apple cider vinegar also helps in avoiding the formation and helping to dissolve them.
Subjects like this need to be talked about more. Things become tabboo or awkward to talk about. Even embarrassing to some but really good health information that should be taught in health class at a young age and again later in life for some that have missed it or need a refresher. Great video 👍
I started sitting to pee a couple of years ago, I honestly don't know how I went so long not doing this because it keeps the bathroom so much cleaner. Pee used to splash out of the bowl and eventually stink the place up. Not anymore!
I was "forced" to urinate sitting down while in Navy boot camp to eliminate splashing and messing up the area that must be kept clean and ready for inspection at anytime. Since that time I have kept the practice for practical reasons and thankful for the experience. It really makes a lot of sense.
I got in the habit of sitting to pee because when I lived with my girlfriend long ago, she would lose it if I didn't put the toilet seat down after using it. I am way, way too forgetful to actually do that. I'd just sit down instead. Then I noticed that the toilet area stays cleaner if I don't pee standing up. Laziness wins out, I'll pee sitting down and clean less often.
Totally makes sense that seamen are told to sit down when they pee, the Army's been calling you guys girls for centuries now,and you just publicly admitted we were right in our suspicion. 😂😅
Cool to see the question, I asked a while ago, sort of answered! I sit down to pee, been doing so since my mid 20s. It's way more relaxed, for me at least... My dad always sat down, and he said it was better for the prostate. It also keeps the toilet a lot cleaner! I think it's a bit of a stigma for a lot of (younger) men, they feel/think they are not manly if they sit down to pee.... (A bit like the; ''a man shouldn't be crying'', crap )
I'm a 73 year old very healthy, and quite athletic man, but still 73... probably you would not imagine how useful and applicable most of the recommendations in your posts are for me. Thank you, Dr. Malik.
I've been sitting ever since I got old, unless I'm in a public men"s room. I think you've got it right,...again. I get more from your videos than I do from my primary. Many thanks, you are a treasure
I'm 69. I have always had a problem peeing while sitting. My bladder never empties fully. After standing up, I always have to finish standing up. My prostate is still routinely exercised, and my pee flow is very good
I disagree with you sitting makes it difficult to completely empty the bladder, when I urinate sitting down I often find that I can urinate some more when I stand up
I sit whenever possible for sanitary reasons at home. Generally I stand to empty my bladder when in public place to avoid dirty toilets. At 71 years of age, I do urinate more often and can tall you sitting defiantly offers better empty bladder results. Thank you so much for these videos. I have learned so much from you because of your straightforward approach to the subjects you present.
I’m in my 60’s and have BPH. I can no longer empty completely while sitting. After having a bowel movement when I’m done I have to stand up to finish peeing so I’m definitely a stander at this stage of life.
As a 55 your old male who has slowly been getting the typical problems with slower/weaker urination I must say my experience has been the opposite: I often can't pee when sitting down, it's as if things are blocked. It's only after I stand up that I can freely pee. This doesn't happen always but often enough to have noticed a pattern.
As a sitter, occasionally this happens to me. I don't know why, but I suspected it was because I was drinking a lot of tea. So I seldom drink tea, anymore.
I'll be 60 in a month, and I've been sitting since my 30s as well. As someone said about waking in the middle of the night, it is far easier to sit and no delay in falling back to sleep when returning to bed. Also, I will freely admit, "I am a clean freak when it comes to my bathroom and my home in general." Everyone knows that if you stand (which is not a problem), you better ensure that the seat, rim, and bowl are clean after you finish, or I will bring it to your attention. Since I'm being honest, I also don't allow people to use the master bedroom bathroom unless the second bathroom is occupied.Great topic and I've never been embarrassed about sitting down when urinating.
I've actually tested this. From my experience, my bladder empties completely if standing. However if I sit, it doesn't. Often times if I urinated when sitting, about 10 minutes later, I would have to urinate again. This only seems to happen whenever I sit and urinate. Not when I stand.
It's nice to hear evidence confirming of my observation that I void more completely when I sit down. Standing, I always end up with dribbles and the feeling of incomplete voiding.
The biggest benefit to sitting is the amount of droplets that land outside the toilet is greatly reduced. I spend less time cleaning it ever since I started sitting. I highly recommend it!
When I was 14 I had hernia surgery and my doctor told me to pee sitting for a few weeks afterward. I’ve been sitting ever since. I am now 71 and have an oversized prostate and BPH. More recently I started meditative breathing while sitting. I believe this helps me better drain my bladder.
point is, that hyperplasia is not the full story. As you said, a lot of the problem is neuronal conditioning. and breathing helps. There is also a neat acupressure point around 40% the way up from your root to the belly button. press it gently, and the nervous constriction goes away
As a very tall male who raised 2 daughters, I always sit except in public. Also some men don’t have a single stream and make a mess standing. So sitting is what I do because I’m so tall and the stream always splits
Sometimes the seat position thing flares when I don't,. But I think making things convenient for women also makes them vulnerable to always thinking nature was put here for them. Like looking where you are putting you feet may be good for your continued health. If it is up. Probably the cleaner position. Yes I always check before I sit. I also have seen women miss the bowl. But I have been in jungles and deserts. Lots of inconvenient things there.
Sometimes a double stream, and I'm tall. So I sit in a house. I work on a farm so when I'm outdoors perfect aim is not required. It's wonderful. I wish I had a urinal in my bathroom.
At 68, and having a debilitating hip injury, I began sitting (at home only!) at 50. I began having problems when urinating several years ago and after a terrifying experience of standing up and seeing blood and tissue in the bowl (turned out to be an infection from failing to completely empty my bladder), I vowed to find a way to empty my bladder. Remembering what a physician’s assistant told me, “people get older, and things move” (paraphrasing), I tried many things to get the urine moving better. By accident one day, I had pushed down with my left heel and suddenly felt a substantial increase in flow! I am guessing that that combination moved something out of the way or off of my urethra, and after years of no feeling due to low flow, I could not only feel the urine moving, I could hear the stream against the side of the bowl! Not that my story will solve anyones problem in this area, it makes a lot of sense to keep trying everything until you find the right combination.
@@retroguy9494 Thanks for your comment/question! Because of the hip injury, I still sit to urinate except those rare occasions to the store. Initially I pressed down my heel to adjust myself. What was really weird was that I hadn’t felt the passing of urine in about 15 years. Suddenly and without warning, I could feel the urine passing through my penis! For a second I thought holy cow, something else is going wrong! Then, wait a minute, I remember that feeling! My doctor is going to love this story at my next appointment. Have a good week!
After defecating I always feel an urge to pee; however, the urine doesn't flow immediately, it needs some time. My theory is that the passage of stool puts pressure on the urethra or the bladder and therefore stimulates peeing, but since the urethra gets constricted it needs time to relax and dilate. For this reason, after defecation I usually have to come back soon to expel the remaining urine.
I turned 70 in April and that has nothing to do with the fact that I sit. I simply happen to be a Neatnik and MEN SPLASH!! It’s just the way it is! I’ve been sitting for many years and I am very pleased to hear Dr Malik explain the benefits of doing so. However, the dribble seems to be more prevalent after finishing and then standing, so I’m always ready with some t-paper to catch that. My toilet area is much cleaner for my efforts!!
THANK YOU. I have been sitting to pee for the last 9 years. It is just a better way to go. [ no pun intended ] Keep up the great job of keeping people informed. You have a great way of delivering your helpful message.
I sit to pee, and have for years; but I do so only at home. It is neater, no muss, no fuss, no splash, no miss, no double streams, no nothing and it is more comfortable especially in the middle of the night.
I'm 59 and a friend told me his doctor recommended he sit to pee several years ago. I don't do it all the time but at night when I get out of bed to pee, it definitely simplifies the process. Also first thing in the morning for a few hours so I don't rush things, and I almost always read to avoid the hurry.
I am in my 50's and used to have to get up to pee in the night. A friend recommended taking Pumpkin seed oil supplement (1 softgel per day) to help with this. I started taking it (I get it from Amazon or the health food store) and I never have to get up in the night to pee anymore. Quite amazing.
@@tomfoolery333 I'm in my 50's as well and I remember my father, who is a health nut, taking that stuff about 40 years ago. As he got older, he did have problems urinating though and would get up in the night. When he was 72 he had prostate cancer but they got it all with radiation treatments. However, it left his muscles weak and it got to the point in his 80's where he was getting up multiple times in the night and when it 'hit him' he had to go immediately or he would start dripping. He's still alive and in his 90's but I had to put him in an assisted living due to dementia and his aides tell me some funny stories about him and the toilet! I say to them 'nothing new!'
I'm French and when I lived in Germany with other students, among which girls, they told me "here men pee sitted because when you guys urinate standing, droplets go everywhere and it's disgusting"...(they didn't add that our cleaning skills were not up to their standards but I'm pretty sure she meant that too :-)). I've been peeing sitted ever since (it's been 25 years). I think the only places where I pee standing today are restaurants (mostly because people are dirty), public toilets (ditto) and outside in the wild of course, nitrogen being so good for plants and vegetable gardens ;-)...I'm teaching my kid to pee sitted as well out of respect for my wife and my older daughter (when you're a kid, it's kind of fun to just go nuts in the toilets (no pun intented). It doesn't make him less of a boy...just a more polite and cleaner one.
this is some actually important info, thankyou for making one on it, i been thinkin abt it my main reason was the cleanliness and eliminate the splatter
I learned to sit growing up in a house with three sisters and my mom. No need to worry about leaving the seat up of making sure it was dry afterwards. It was a convenience issue for me.
Can you talk more about carrying stress in the body? That really hit the nail on its head for me. When I get stressed my pelvic floor gets really tight and jaw too
I just don’t like having everyone hearing me pee while standing. No one can hear me pee when I’m sitting. I’m weird that way. I’m shocked no one else has said this.
i prefer sitting at night from this reason but everytime i must be aware that while standing up there will be few drops more which are unpeeable while sitting :D but eventually i reached the skill without making any mess :D
I started to sit while peeing after I was put on pain medication. It caused my pee stream to start and stop randomly and I would pee all over because I could control where it went. I’ve been sitting to pee ever since. It’s awesome at night because I don’t have to turn the light on.
I have nerve problems, and have been sitting to avoid a mess and better control since I was in my early 50's. Also being on strong diuretics means having to go about every 15 to 20 minutes during most of the day.
I’m a 72 yr old male. I grew up with the misogynistic idea that if you want to be called a sissy, then go ahead and act like a girl. Sometimes that includes doing women’s work like nursing or even cleaning the house and cooking. And it included sitting to pee. But for the last 25 or 30 yrs I discovered all the benefits of sitting to pee. Yes, I often stand at a restaurant restroom or anyplace not at my home. I’m as masculine as any man but I simply do what is most comfy and practical at my age. I don’t give a dam what someone might think . I am secure in who I am so I don’t need to impress anyone, and don’t.
I'm convinced my bladder empties more when I stand. I have no known related health issues. Standing is one of the best features of being male. Standing is much more convenient and hygienic.
Honestly I couldn't even imagine sitting to pee, so much easier to stand. The females that complain about men who stand to pee are just jealous. I've had more then one ex tell me if they could they'd pee standing up to.
About 5 yrs ago after my 1st back surgery. I started sitting. And I could tell a major difference. I felt like I emptied my bladder more than standing. And at night its easier to just sit in the dark instead of turning on the lights and waking up from all the light.
Wow this has explained a lot. I have found it difficult to pee standing up most times and find it difficult in public as i have anxiety and it can literally take me a couple minutes just to relax my muscles around there. This is the main reason I don't like peeing in public because people's perceptions of taking so long to pee.
Next time you have to pee in public bathrooms and you feel anxious -- hold your breath. It works to distract you, perhaps. I'm sure there's a scientific explanation for this. But it works for me!
I'm a retired primary care physician with prostatism - currently weighing up which of the surgical options is best. Almost certainly there is no fixed answer to peeing posture - its every man for himself. Without doubt sitting to pee does not work for me, there is always a significant residual that emerges after standing. OTOH I have discovered a few tricks to minimise problems - whether others will find them useful or even if there is any anatomical or neurophysiological validity to them I cannot say. Privacy - use a cubicle in a public loo or close the door if at home. Patience - if it takes 2 or 3 minutes and several passings of a few mls - so what. Take your time and relax. Orbit the bathroom/bedroom/landing for a few minutes and try again. Legs astride and lean forward whilst resting on the wall behind the wc (if possible). This will relax the pelvic floor, taking the pressure off the urethra and somewhat straightening it too. Don't push and strain. This simply impedes flow and may have adverse effects on the bladder. RELAX!!! If you're aware of some residual that does not want to emerge on its own try what is, in effect, the same action as an ejaculation - several times. The innervation of the male urinary tract and the neurophysiology behind urination is complex but significant influences come from the sacral roots. For many years I have noticed benefit from light stroking/scratching of the sacral dermatomes at the top of the natal cleft. Visualisation of a waterfall - Skógafoss in Iceland works for me. Running a tap or the shower. Drawing myself up to my full height and very slightly extending neck and torso whilst tightening any actual or imaginary 'six-pack' - bit like having a stretch. Deep breath in helps too. Perhaps you could do a piece on the anatomy/neurophysiology of urination in men. Few will have considered it in depth. A comparison of the effects of the common surgical options on the situation would be good too. Something I have not seen discussed is the physical, psychological and, possibly, social effects of disruption of ejaculation after surgery. For almost all men this will be important and may be something they hesitate to discuss - you'd be hard pressed to find a man that does not enjoy ejaculating...
I've preferred sitting to standing for years. When I have to get up at night to urinate, I don't want to risk waking up too much to drop back to sleep immediately. I can sit without lights, barely opening my eyes and then go back to sleep more easily.
In my case, it depends on the situation I am in throughout my day. Most times, I stand when I pee as it feels most natural to me. The only exception is when I need sit down on the toilet to take a number two. In that situation, I'll pee as well if I feel the need to. That's the only time I'll pee when sitting down.
As a male nurse I can assure you that nurses in the hospitals in the US wish more men would be willing to sit to pee. We often have to help patients that are unstable on their feet either from anesthesia or old age. Some men refuse to pee sitting down and trying to help them stand is difficult and dangerous for them and the nurse. Trying to keep someone upright, with the urinal correctly positioned is no easy task. Walking them to the toilet is also not safe and you’re guaranteed to have to clean the toilet and surrounding area afterwards.
I always sat down until I got prostatitis and eventually urinary tract infections because of the unsteady stream. Sitting down actually worsened my condition until the doctors told me to stand up and try and I have never had an issue since. I guess it is all about in which position you are relaxed and your muscles work and relax in the right places.
I am almost 75 years old and always stood to pee. I find, for me, the complete reverse of what you are suggesting. I get a better flow and empty more completely if I stand. In my opinion, gravity works more in my favor when I stand. At home, I use a urinal bottle since it helps control the spray and allows me to relax and pee! Nearly every man my age has an enlarged prostate and I do too. When I am out, I often sit to pee since it helps me avoid wetting myself, but I always have to stand to finish up.
I've been sitting for nearly 20 years whilst peeing due to multiple reasons; shy bladder, issues urinating whilst I was on antidepressants, history of kidney stones (easier to cope with painful peeing when sitting), avoiding getting blamed for peeing on the toilet seat, tight pelvic floor... Anyway, I can definitely say it's better for me 😁
Hey dude...mind if I ask you a question? I have some of the same issues you have. I've had kidney stones multiple times and even had surgery to remove a stuck one 4 years ago. I also had a huge bladder stone that I had to be operated on to remove 2 years ago. I also suffer from inflamed and tight pelvic floor muscles (which can be agonizing in a flare up) as well as other muscle issues which leads to burning and painful peeing. Why do you find it easier to sit? For me, I find it easier to stand because obviously, you have to kind of push it down to urinate when sitting but more important it's as if sitting for me puts MORE pressure on the pelvic muscles. It's kind of like when I'm standing I also need to use my leg muscles which alleviates, to a degree the pressure and use of the pelvic floor muscles.
@@retroguy9494 Hey, I guess for me sitting means I can relax my lower body whereas standing still holds tension because my leg muscles are still activated. Maybe it's actually a mental thing and we believe one way works better than the other so it becomes reality. Who knows?! But if standing works for you, go for it! If it ain't broke, don't fix it 😁
@@retroguy9494You put more pressure when you are sitting because your knees are lower than your pelvis (you are sitting on the shite table) to solve this, sit straight into the toilet or use a step to make your legs higher
Thanks so very much for the video need more like this !!! I am in my 60's and a diabetic and I thought I was weird because I sit to pee when I am home most of the time because I do feel I empty my bladder more that way not to mention all the other things mention on the messes women thing men pee all over on purpose but most cases it's not true it's because of the way it comes out sometimes fast and afterwards it dribbles with out realizing it. Hopefully women will see this and understand and not be so mean to there husband, and more men will feel more comfortable sitting at home with out feeling there wife's will make fun of them sitting, just one of many things to argue about.
Enjoy your videos, keep up the great work! Interesting, I’m 70, have bhp but only get up once in the night to pee. At night I sit … just to relax and not concentrate. Flow is moderate and don’t really release a lot. Seems to be enough to satisfy my need to sleep. During the day, I stand to pee. Starting as always is slowish but flow is usually much better. The only time I really have trouble peeing is right after any major surgery. In the last 30 years I’ve had 6 surgical operations to limbs and ribs that required general anesthesia. Immediately and for weeks after, it was very difficult to pee standing or sitting!! Go figure! 😁
I noticed that if you're intact the foreskin acts like a funnel and hangs down when sitting and it's less messy, but if you're circumcised it doesn't hang down as much and you have to keep it pushed down or it can make a mess.
US male 58 years old. Starting sitting right after getting married at 23 years old (35 years ago) when I left the seat up and my new bride kind of "fell in" the toilet. She was not mad or upset, but I decided then that this would never happen again, so I started sitting. Have been sitting since.
At 56 I just had to have surgery for this issue. My prostate had grown to the point I couldn't urinate and my bladder stretched. I can't tell you how painful this was. I had to use a catheter until the surgery which was delayed because of Covid. There are side effects but they are nothing compared to the restrictions of self catheter use.
Well that’s pretty amazing! Who knew there could be potential health benefits to what I’ve been doing for the last 50 years. Then to find out there’s more than 3 other guys worldwide that sit to pee and will admit it is beyond amazing! 😎 I started out of respect for my wife and haven’t stopped(and I don’t want the mess either). I will not sit in a public facility for obvious reasons.
I am in my early 30s, and I always sit while urinating in the toilet because I am really sensitive when it comes to cleanliness and hygiene. It is a lot more comforting, and you don't have to worry about the urine splashing out of the toilet and on your pants and shoes. Obviously, I urinate while standing when using a urinal. I have heard that urinating while standing increases the risk of prostate cancer, but I do not know if that is true. I think it will be safe to use the urinal sometimes when it comes to the prostate. Anyways, I think it is a BAD idea to urinate while standing when using a toilet.
80 I am Thank you, just changed to squatting to pee. Been squatting to poop for 50 years, never sit. Been standing to pee, only pee squatting whilst pooping. Lately been dripping much post pee. Tried squatting on my toes on floor catching in container (great fruit tree fertilizer) , yesterday first time. Excellent for thorough emptying bladder, no dripping. . Happy and dry, thank you. Dunno if anybody else had this reaction to your short video ,
I’m 62 years old. A few years ago I discovered that if I sit I fully empty my bladder. I never told anyone that I sit because I was embarrassed, but I definitely noticed the difference as opposed to standing. If I sit I don’t go as often.
Great videos. Having an over extended bladder, I find I need the extra help from gravity to fully empty my bladder. So standing is the only way to pee for me. Sitting seems to prevent me from starting or emptying my bladder. Thank you for what you do.
Good video Doc!!! I'm 53 and I believe I am developing BPH, I had a slow and weaker stream. Sitting down helps me out a lot especially if I sit for a extra minute or two another stream magically appears and I am able to completely void my bladder completely, otherwise I would most likely make extra trips to the restroom every 2 hours through out the day and night. Now I am able to go 4 to 5 hours without a bathroom break. Also exercise and losing belly weight helps too, I guess the extra fat/weight was putting more pressure on my bladder generating the urge to go more frequently. Thank you Doc!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤ As always, you're the greatest!!!!❤❤❤❤❤ Have a wonderful weekend!!!!
BPH - 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds 2x daily. That's 24 total grams of fiber to adust diet accordingly. Takes 2-4 weeks. Internal prostate massager works great, too. Vibrations return the prostate and vas deferens to heathly levels.
I am in 20s and if I am not somewhere in the wild or something, I always sit to peeing. Its more comfortable for me, and not only that! Few months ago, there was pusblished a study about teeth damage, and one of the main causes for men was peeing while standing, because the pee would make aerosol after spreading, so it would get in your mouth.... 😶
I started sitting after I got married and had 2 daughters (mid to late 80's). I got tired of the whole "Put the seat down!" so I decided to solve this problem by sitting to pee. Here we are in 2023 and I still sit.
Very helpful perspective , Rena. I'm 79, have had bsp for years, and find sitting more comfortable and effective. Nice to know I 'm not in some weird minority category, at least on this issue. 😊
I can say that it is actually way more difficult to pee in the plank position. I was in a confined space once and needed to pee in a bottle using gravity so had to plank while peeing. I am not sure if it was physiologically more difficult to pee but I am guessing it is harder to pee when your muscles are contracted.
@@balancedactguy I was in a confined space its the only way. Peeing sideways will result in the bottle filling and leaking out as there often insn't much room between your thigh and the ground. peeing while planking is easier than peeing on your side if you are peeing into a bottle and you need all the bottle you can get for bladder volume.
@@balancedactguy I think you missed the point this happened when I was in a confined space and could not stand up etc.. like 2 or so feet high space. I often pee standing up. I think that most guys pee standing up unless they are taking a shat too.
I think it depends on your environment. As I prefer to pee either outside in the back yard or in the shower, I found sitting down more awkward than just standing.
I’ve sat for decades, mainly because I had to clean my own bathroom in the early years. When I got married the habit and its courtesy were established.
Yup. I'm a setter! Not a pointer! Also it makes for a happier married life! No peeing on the rim, cleaner bathroom! Also at 62 BPH has been a thing for years now. So sitting and relaxing is a wonderful thing!😊
Every time I ever heard a male talk about standing verses sitting, it was painfully clear that he associated sitting with women and being gay. Therefore, My assessment is simple. A man that fights for the right to satand at any cost with real vigour is likely insecure with his masculinity, sexist or homophobic or all three! REAL men don't leave a dirty toilet! and adult men don'tcreate a make work project when it's totally avoidable!
Rena - I agree. I was having issues peeing. I thought it was a prostate issue, but it turned out to be a plevic floor issue, where my Pelvic Floor muscles were too tight causing me to trickle pee as well as have the last of the pee escape as I got up from peeing. Turned out a few simple stretch exercises solved my issue. However, when I was doing research nothing I did a search on told me it was a pelvic floor issue and everything seemed to tell me that either I had Prostate issues and/or bladder issues (which isn't true). Most of the issues towards men with pelvic floor are directed at erection issues when you may have zero issues with erection but still have pelvic floor problems like I did. BTW - I sit to pee unless at a public bathroom with a urinal. Mostly because I clean the toilets in my house and it is more sanitary to sit down to pee.
I’m 51 and my wife wanted me to sit while urinating to avoid plashing in the toilet and though I granted her request I thought she was a little crazy because I thought men need to stand to pee. After watching this I realize that it’s probably a good thing after all and that it’s not as weird as I thought it is! Thank you for sharing this post!
I'm 60 and I started sitting to pee many years ago while on vacation staying with friends. Having to pee half asleep at 2am made it difficult to not miss the toilet. I didn't want to leave a messy bathroom. Then I realized how much pee you can't see that splashes out of the toilet onto the floor. So I pee sitting down at home too for cleanliness. However, I see a urologist and he keeps an eye on my prostate (or should I say a finger lol) because I take a long time to pee and don't fully empty my bladder when I do. It's more comfortable to sit down when you're going to be there for a while. So, I pee sitting down at night and in the day I sit and stand sometimes to avoid hemroids. I always stand when using public toilets. Hope this wasn't TMI.😅
The only time I sit is if I have to poop the same timed as I pee. Occasionally when I relax the muscles to pee it relaxes all the control muscles so I have to sit to avoid a problem. This doesn't happen often but it happens.
I’ve been a sitter since USN basic training after our company eliminated overspray. And when it’s older it’s crispy. I consider it in the nose spray category of, “Please cover your nose and coughs!” Whether or not I clean our bathrooms (I do) it is something I consider disgusting to leave for others to step on while they sit barefoot. And carry it into bed with me. - Oh and recruit sailors then cheerfully called it, “Piss like sis” with a smile to remind us all. As we all had to do everything at the same time. And fast for some reason. Love your channel. ❤
@bobdrago6965 Totally agree. I also recommend getting an open front toilet seat.
As you know, urination is a conditional reflex, if someone has the habit of peeping in standing position, he will get urgency and may dripple while walking to toilet
On the contrary, when used urinates while sitting, on standing and walking to toilet, the desire becomes less, so giving him the chance to go safely avoiding urgency and dripping.
Got my idea
I just recently starting to sit for the same reason.
Started sitting when I got married 25 years ago (guess why ...). Zero problems.
You should never ever call yourself a man.
@@michaelpark5681 wow, it must be very sad for your manhood to be so fragile that it hinges on something as insignificant as whether you sit or stand to pee.
@@michaelpark5681 lol!
Using a urinal the pee splashes back
@michaelpark5681 a real man also shits standing up. Don't be a puss, let it just run down your legs.
It is more comfortable to sit for a pee. It's more quiet not peeing into toilet water. I do like to sit as it's much more relaxing.
Be careful you don't start wearing a dress
Crisstto, perhaps your not comfortable with your sexuality! I’m 65 and a MAN and I sit when I can to urinate and have done for decades, it’s more relaxing and more hygienic! Why mothers teach their male children to stand is simple madness!
Yeah its ackward to sit on an urinal.
@@crissoto3759have you tried wearing a dress ? It’s quite nice really
Why not just lift the seat and set it back down for the women?
I've been self-conscious about this for a longggg time, but it's good to know it's actually more beneficial. It just makes more sense to me. I'ma keep doing it.
I started sitting when my kids were young: I just realized how much more hygienic it is. (Boys can be kind of messy).
It's the invisible splash that dries yellow.
Also most toilets are located next to the shower curtain. Standing causes more splash back.
Guys, it is not an assault on your masculinity to sit down to pee!!
sit down and pee lie a girl🤣
Thank you for mentioned the perception of this being an assault on your masculinity. Men have become so thin skinned in this day and age that it almost seems they are less masculine and more fragile because they can’t take a little criticism. Do what is good for your health not your ego.
I agree, unfortunately there are a few idiots on this comment thread that are attacking men that sit with derogatory remarks. People are so insecure.
Thank you for standing up for the men who sit down to pee.
No to me it's natural to sit when peeing
I'm 68, I stand to pee during the day, but at night when I am half asleep, I sit to pee. Don't want to wake up enough to focus on the target. This has worked for me for 60+ years.
Same here, but generally speaking I feel much more relaxed when standing and the flow is stronger.
And the noise, it's 2am I'm not trying to wake up so I'm not turning the light one and sitting stops the sound and waking any one else up
Yah, that's been my feeling too. I have to laugh that some of the people say it's more manly.. Gimme a break, stop equating manliness with silly actions as if it was that fragile.
Same same
65 here, and I also sit at night for exactly the same reasons.
Yea totally agree.
I also agree. When I’m at home I always sit. I stand everywhere else.
Wtf are you people doing? Pretty easy to aim
@@jhoughjr1 It's not about aiming. It's the splash of tiny (and I mean tiny) droplets of urine, mostly invisible, that splash back from the toilet when the jet hits the inner walls of the toilet.
@@jhoughjr1 fr who tf cant aim for the water LOL
Been sitting for longer than I can remember. Just hated the splashing, which leaves a mess no matter what the manly men claim about their aim.
I noticed that by myself when I was a teenager and became taller. Sitting is the best way to avoid incidents.
For longer than I can remember I’ve been peeing sitting only when I’m at home. Just to ensure that I don’t have splashes around the toilet bowl. When I’m out sure I always stand but at home I always sit. Thank you Dr Malik. Good to know there’s nothing wrong with it.
First thing in the morning - I'm half asleep, so I sit. During the day, I usually stand because I like to pee outside.
Same. I'm 6'3" and don't want to urinate on the rim and floor like some animal.
@@kw6713a Water splashes up and out - it's not necessarily pee.
Same. Also nice to not have to worry about aiming.
@@jasper7257 Morning wood tends to cause an aiming challenge - whether standing or sitting.
If people are waking up because you are peeing standing up, then shut the door!
Proper aiming means no mess

I love listening to this doctor. She talks about subjects many avoid talking about. Thanks, doctor.
I agree with you, she makes it easier for us to focus, some people are naturally pleasant to listen to, she's good.
💕✌️Love this Doctor too ...
I’ve been sitting for about ten years. In my 40s I began noticing that if I stood to urinate, I would get a wet spot in my pants after bending over or squatting. My doctor recommended sitting for a more complete evacuation of the bladder. It works, and it’s less messy.
TMI!!! 😅
There’s something about the mid 40’s that will humble you. That’s when I started to sit down at night and now I definitely sit more than I stand.
Same. Transitioned to sitting over a decade ago. However, sometimes I have to stand in public washrooms, which is awkward because this can often take a very long time.
Early 50s, same issue. Sitting stops the wet spot in my pants. Also found more frequent orgasms also stops the wet spot.
Islam taught people to sit while drinking and peeing since 1400 years ago
More recently I've been sitting at home to pee. It's just more comfortable and in those rare circumstances when I wake up in the middle of the night, it's easier to pee and fall back to sleep. It also feels like I can empty my bladder better. Great topic and well presented!
Exactly! Plus you don't need to worry about lights on, as much
Especially if you are sleepy very comfortable this position
nothing wrong with that do, what's most comfortable for you! I grew up in a house of 3 sisters and 3 other women in my household at different times, so to avoid headaches I joined them! keeping the toilet seat down!
still peeing sitting down as of today! those women are long gone now but it is a habit right to get used to doing something that sticks with you! hopefully
Exactly bro, who the hell stands in the middle of the night. Sitting allows you to remain half asleep.
You should try Tamsulosin (flomax) will help you pee better.

However, when out in public, it's back to standing.
you beat me to saying everything you typed lol right down to the kidney stones and me not wanting to make a mess by standing at home
The West want to femenize men
400-600 mg of magnesium helps to avoid forming kidney stones and lemon water or apple cider vinegar also helps in avoiding the formation and helping to dissolve them.
Subjects like this need to be talked about more. Things become tabboo or awkward to talk about. Even embarrassing to some but really good health information that should be taught in health class at a young age and again later in life for some that have missed it or need a refresher. Great video 👍

My dad always sat down, and he said it was better for the prostate.
It also keeps the toilet a lot cleaner!

I find that too.I always find standing up emptys me completely, but sitting although I go I'm never completely finished !
I disagree with you sitting makes it difficult to completely empty the bladder, when I urinate sitting down I often find that I can urinate some more when I stand up

Similar age and experience as yours. Haven't found any downside.

Love this Doctor, answers those questions men are afraid or embarrassed to ask! 👍🏼
Yes!. I am 50 years old man and like sitting to pee because it helps my urine flowing smoothly .Thank you for this explanation👍
As a person who has had a hernia, I can tell you it can make a difference to sit vs standing.
I've actually tested this. From my experience, my bladder empties completely if standing. However if I sit, it doesn't. Often times if I urinated when sitting, about 10 minutes later, I would have to urinate again. This only seems to happen whenever I sit and urinate. Not when I stand.
When I was younger I too found this but as I got older it definitely changed. See above.
I agree. I'm 63 and have noticed that if I stand my bladder empties completely. Sitting and I have to go again soon or feel the urge very soon after.
Exactly my experience. The older I get, the more it's true. I can only get empty standing.
I have hip issues, sitting is a F'n pain in the A$$, I stand.
Same with me. I have BPH and cannot void sitting
08 hell tall r ewe ???
That split stream is my reminder of having a kidney stone removal which caused damage to my equipment.😢
I havent had a single stream in over a decade and Im nearly 32.
Dont know why, but it just likes to spray out.
Sitting at home is always a must.
Rena Malik is a Urologist? Nominative determinism at its finest!
That's fascinating. Are you sitting or standing when you put the pressure on your heel?

[ no pun intended ]

I sit to pee, and have for years; but I do so only at home. It is neater, no muss, no fuss, no splash, no miss, no double streams, no nothing and it is more comfortable especially in the middle of the night.
And to quite frank, you can fart in safety!

I learned to sit growing up in a house with three sisters and my mom. No need to worry about leaving the seat up of making sure it was dry afterwards.
It was a convenience issue for me.
I've been sitting to pee since age 30. I find that it's easier to empty my bladder when standing however.

Yes, exactly that....
Very common 'shy bladder' syndrome...
I started to sit while peeing after I was put on pain medication. It caused my pee stream to start and stop randomly and I would pee all over because I could control where it went. I’ve been sitting to pee ever since. It’s awesome at night because I don’t have to turn the light on.
It's also quieter so doesn't wake up everybody in the house.(My wife's a little sleeper)
@@Chris-hx3omSurely flushing the toilet is louder than peeing. Unless... you don't....
I don’t give a dam what someone might think

Self-respecting males do not sit down to urinate. Splash or no. Comfy or not.
I'm convinced my bladder empties more when I stand. I have no known related health issues. Standing is one of the best features of being male. Standing is much more convenient and hygienic.
And practical too.
This is the main reason I don't like peeing in public because people's perceptions of taking so long to pee.
the older you get the harder it gets to pee yikes I want a cure for this made immediately before I get that old
Next time you have to pee in public bathrooms and you feel anxious -- hold your breath. It works to distract you, perhaps. I'm sure there's a scientific explanation for this. But it works for me!
I'm a woman, and I'm not surprised that it would be hard to relax while trying to pee at a urinal with other people around.
Yep. Completely agree
I`ll try this
I'm 72 now. I began to sit when I had a lower back injury when I was 31. I agree that sitting makes it much easier to relax. Cleaner toilet as well.
In my case, it depends on the situation I am in throughout my day. Most times, I stand when I pee as it feels most natural to me. The only exception is when I need sit down on the toilet to take a number two. In that situation, I'll pee as well if I feel the need to. That's the only time I'll pee when sitting down.
Thank your for your dedication & hard work on this channel ❤❤❤
As a male nurse I can assure you that nurses in the hospitals in the US wish more men would be willing to sit to pee. We often have to help patients that are unstable on their feet either from anesthesia or old age. Some men refuse to pee sitting down and trying to help them stand is difficult and dangerous for them and the nurse. Trying to keep someone upright, with the urinal correctly positioned is no easy task. Walking them to the toilet is also not safe and you’re guaranteed to have to clean the toilet and surrounding area afterwards.
It’s probably a good thing for patients to stand every once and while. Being sedentary or sitting a lot isn’t good for a myriad of reasons.
Same here at 76.
Me too. im 68 , i have to push while sitting.
I've been peeing into a container for years to avoid the toilet splash and save flushing water.
you are not the only one
Hopefully women will see this and understand and not be so mean to there husband, and more men will feel more comfortable sitting at home with out feeling there wife's will make fun of them sitting, just one of many things to argue about.

Go figure! 😁
Can we say now that UA-cam has covered absolutely every topic imaginable?
Not yet Phil. It takes people with no shame to get that raunchy stuff out there. But, I think society is still fairly prim and proper.
I noticed that if you're intact the foreskin acts like a funnel and hangs down when sitting and it's less messy, but if you're circumcised it doesn't hang down as much and you have to keep it pushed down or it can make a mess.
Sit and relax. I also avoid urinals. Doesn't matter how careful you are but splash back is always a problem.
There’s a person that taught people this more than 1400 years ago. Alhamdulillah!
Gotta really love the catheter huh. Ya, right.

I started out of respect for my wife and haven’t stopped(and I don’t want the mess either).

I can say that it is actually way more difficult to pee in the plank position. I was in a confined space once and needed to pee in a bottle using gravity so had to plank while peeing. I am not sure if it was physiologically more difficult to pee but I am guessing it is harder to pee when your muscles are contracted.
I thought I was the only one with this problem. LOL! Glad I'm not alone.
PLANLK POSITION? You Pee doing "Planks"?
@@balancedactguy I was in a confined space its the only way. Peeing sideways will result in the bottle filling and leaking out as there often insn't much room between your thigh and the ground. peeing while planking is easier than peeing on your side if you are peeing into a bottle and you need all the bottle you can get for bladder volume.

Can you tell me how you discovered it to be a floor issue and not a prostate or testosterone issue? I never even considered that option.
