kinda bit how brabus does theri tuning it they cram the pwoer upp and hope it works, theo i agree if they put the effort in recode the traction contorll it would work briliant. Allso if they did slap 4wd on it as suggested not only would it hamper its cornering abilety as it is allready rather front heavy and they also have to rebuild the enginebay and after all that the engein woudl still crack the gearbox in half every time you put the hammer tot he pedal.

but he is wrong - the V12 65 AMG on which is based this monster isn't 5.5L it is 6.0L !!! or 5980 cc to be more precise!
well... or may be not... may be it is based on the M275 Mercedes engine for the 600 range which is 5.5L indeed, not on the M275AMG engine for the 65AMG range of models which has slightly modified stroke 93 instead 87 mm and increased to 6.0L displacement...
***** may be you are not exactly right... I think the 5.5 V12 engine was build in Maybach only (this is the M285 engine)
In SL 600 was used M275 engine - 6.0L V12 and the 5.4L V8...
and actually the 5.5V12 is in production from later year 2005 when the 6.0 V12 is from 2003... but it is quite complicated really :)
benzfen you are wrong. Its a 5.5 to 6.3 www.motorauthority.com/news/1029466_brabus-sv12-s-biturbo--730hp-in-a-sl
I think he mistakenly thought of the SL600 in the beginning.
12 piston brakes?
6 pistons on each side. Rotara brakes does that
@@greathey1234 I know I'm 2 years late. But they generally do mean 12 pistons each. Search up Brabus 12piston brakes and you can see 6 circle dimples on each side of the caliper not both sides added up. Mental brakes. Can only imagine you could stop quicker if you hit a wall.
BBC Worldwide uploading 240p clips, really?
2008
Connor Denis-Barnard 480p been around for a while... and for that matter 2008 had 1080
Tim Young Please look at the upload date. Then look at the highest quality FOR THIS VIDEO.
Tim Young Then realize how wrong you were.
THIS NEEDS WHOLE NEW WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW AMAZING THIS THING IS!
his driving is actually damn good he has been racing cars around since the 70s and taken lessons with the top drivers in the world so he knows what he is doing when you see him thrashing it he is having fun and thats what its all about the fun of driving and thats why he doesn't like tcs and all the nanny controls because it hinders the fun. And who cares if he says some car makers car is crap he is journalist not an advertiser.
torque is a unity in UK ? what about Nm ?
Torque is not a unit of measurment. NM or Ft/lb is what torque is usually mesuered in
He's saying it ironically because most of your average Joe's can't properly define the difference between torque and horsepower.
How weak the cars have been back then. ;) For me the Brabus philosophy was as close to Jeremies' soul and passion, a car could possibly get. Based on an ultraconservatice, almost boring brand, but as vulgar, loud and absolutely unnecessary as it can get. Speeeed- and powerish to a new level of burlesque. Can I destroy a set of tyres at one traffic light. Yes, I can!
I guess the philosophy of Brabus is: "How far can we push the power before things become undriveable"
SL is the best car in the world, poor bmw and audi.. sorry fans Mercedes is the grandfather of the cars.
Yes but its not surprising at all after all they did invent the gasoline engine im not surprised this car reached a1000 torque an incredible feat indeed but not surprising since its a merc
OgreSlayer but its not a merc brabus done the hardwork
OgreSlayer The concept of the engine existed before Mercedes got a hold of it. Mercedes made the engine possible though.
This car should have been redeveloped with current technology, it would have been such a beast. Engine already had more than enough work done, chassis and aero needed tweaks to make it a complete package.
I'm American and I am proud to say this version of Top Gear kicks our version of "Top Gear"'s ass.
Filmed with a potato hm ?
Did Jeremy say that the top speed of the car is 290 mph? That's 466 kmh! That would be faster than a Veyron...
219
Schnitzel Stephan nineteen not ninety
Wouldn't be the first thing faster than a veyron
Travis Berry The Koenigsegg Regera can get to its top speed of 249 MPH in less than 20 seconds. To compare, it takes a Porsche 918, another hybrid supercar, 23 seconds to reach 186 MPH. It goes from 93 MPH to 155 MPH in 3.2 seconds.
mistreku we're talking about 2006 era here.
That is a serious piece of engineering. What a car.....
because HD is so mainstream. Thank you BBC
As an American I love this. This checks every box for absolute absurdity
BBC worldwide? and you have this magnificent review in 240p? come on guys
Thats because the engine in the Huayra is based on the engine in this specific car, both uses 6.0 L Twin Turbo AMG V12s :)
So quite good call since you didn't seem to know about it!
Kompressor (German) is actually a supercharger (English) in some of the petrol engines of Mercedes. CLC 200 Kompressor is an example (petrol), instead of CLC 220 CDI (Common-rail Direct Injection - diesel fuel only).
The stig's listening to "keeping up appearances"!
Sounds like Jezza predicted the BP oil rig disaster of 2010.
This car started out as a sl600 (non AMG) not Sl65. The sl600 has the 5.5l where a sl65 has the 6l engine. The sl600 is dynoed at 540 HP (rated 493 by metcedes)and 604hp for sl65
Tyler Smith My S600 has 6.0l biturbo with 604 hp it was just as common as the 5.5 l
Michael Applonie you have an 65 model then. I checked and have never heard of a 600 with the 6L and biturbos. If there is send me a link.
Michael Applonie are you talking a brand new model? The older s600 had a 6.0l but no turbos and didn't have 600 HP stock
Kinda weird when Dodge made the Hellcat and everyone went nuts. Merc did it 15 years before with even more power and no one says anything. This car was way ahead of its time.
Woah the quality is great...
what is the music in the start when jeremy closes the roof?
In dem TopGear-vid mit dem Brabus sl r129 hat dieser das gleiche Nummernschild...coool!
What is the warning light on the speedometer for?
He got his stats wrong with the car in the studio- Of that car is the SL65 - then Mercedes gave it 600bhp stock - the SL63 was given 525bhp
144p. bbc world at its finest! good job guys.
I love James' speech at the end lol
21 century and u couldnt find better quality? BBC ?!?!?!
Great oratory...James!
How could they remove these test drive segments from The Grand Tour?
The Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG produces 517 hp. the car they tested was the Brabus SV12S which has the 2 turbos, 730 hp and 1000 Nm but technology wasn't ready for that much power back in 2008 and yet I'm not sure if drivers are ready for the power they put out nowadays but that's another story.
144p. Still better then new Top Gear.
best 240p quality ive ever seen!
Is this official BBC channel? asking because 144P its like watching in 1999
Actually, the resolution in every TV in 1999 Europe was 720x568. This video has a resolution of 256x144, about 1/11 the resolution.
This Mercedes SL Brabus redefines overpowered
kinda bit how brabus does theri tuning it they cram the pwoer upp and hope it works, theo i agree if they put the effort in recode the traction contorll it would work briliant.
Allso if they did slap 4wd on it as suggested not only would it hamper its cornering abilety as it is allready rather front heavy and they also have to rebuild the enginebay and after all that the engein woudl still crack the gearbox in half every time you put the hammer tot he pedal.
@hopkin104
higher speed, faster corner entry, better 0-60?
Or do you just not like being wrong?
I can only began to think what 811 torques feels like even 350 Nm in a diesel 1 series feels like quite a lot when I'm only used to about 100 Nm
Can anyone tell me the name of the song at 4:40? I've been searching for ages but I can't seem to be able to find it.
@GodlikeNL V12s are significantly more expensive to produce, and the reduced cylinder size would mean the engine wouldn't have too much torque.
I love this Mercedes Brabus SL
what tune is that in beginning of the car introduction
"A thousand torques is what you would you use to restart a dead planet" lmfao that shit had me goin
