the SLR McLaren has been my all time favourite car ever since it debuted at Geneva. It still looks spectacular and that noise is a gift from God. I would daily drive tf out of this and i won't get tired of hearing that rumble. Played the car on Need For Speed Most Wanted, it was my favourite car in the game, i was absolutely obsessed with it and still am.
That thing is a legend.

Their v12's don't sound that good. But what does sound great is their v10's. Lambo V10 sound is my second favorite sounding v10 (my most is the 2013 srt viper v10).
Amazing how this car still looks so modern 10 years after it being launched....
and will stay amazing forever. i believe E- Type, F40, Miura, Countach and SLR are by far the best looking cars ever made.

I would add Mclaren F1, which still looks great, over 20 years from its release. Also Countach looks dated in my opinion.

Just like McLaren F1(F1 GTR) is still wonderful and pretty to day.

It's value hasn't appreciated like any Ferrari which I think is a good thing because it still means you can grab one before everyone refuses to sell these. Still a good time to buy and enjoy it lol, not like it's delicate. The engine and trans is carried over from the SL55/E55 which is already mostly reliable, only that it's been tuned for more power. 👌

naftyloescher What? Ever heard of the Corvette Z06, all Ferrari's since the f430, all McLarens. Hell, even the LaFerrari and P1 are RWD, they get to 60 in ~2.5 seconds.
P1 is not RWD electric motors power the front.

The car isn't light, but the physical monocoque body is made of lighter stuff.
It's incredible the fact that what Jeremy called "polverizing 3.8 secs" on a supercar is now a loooong time compared to nowadays supercars that do 0-60 in less than 3 secs
I was thinking the same thing. My M340i does 0-60 in 3.4 bone stock.

The biggest factor here is launch control and the fact that tires got better in last years. Take a rolling start and the car is mental. It's pulling power still hangs with a lot of modern supercars, the ones who have 0-60 times of lows 3's even sub 3's.

This is the most beautiful car ever made. It's 11 Years old but still looks amazing.
I would have to disagree. There are cars that are 40, 50, 60 years old that look far better. This is my opinion but 1950 - 1971 had the best looking cars. Shelby cobra, Eleanor, 1971 cuda, even cars made over seas looked better. I personal favorite car would have to be a 1967 Chevy Impala 4 door in either a light blue, black, or a very deep blue.

Kang Ren Mercedes likes to make new cars inspired by older models desing. Just like with Mercedes SLS Amg and SL gullwing. I am 100% sure, they'll make another amazing and expensive SLR.

SLS is ugly if you compare it to the SLR.
SLR all day all night SLS is it's little sister. Looks slow even at a Park. SLR looks like a Missle when Parked.
Great review this is when I first was really getting in to Top Gear. The part with the braking in the cones at 120 was the part that made an impression on me and from there on I knew this car was going to be a legend.
The SLR McLaren is still a legendary car in 2021.
It's amazing how smooth and effortless it looks when it drives, and yet it beats the contenders with 3!!! seconds, that's some seriously well crafted engineering.

Always fun to look back at reviews of now iconic cars to see what they thought of them when new. I can't be the only one who has passed buying or sold to soon one that ended up skyrocketing in value.
I'm buying a MkV supra for this very reason. They are very underrrated and I just know they will be highly sought after in the future.
I'm not going to modify mine and keep it 100% stock except for maybe a sound system upgrade.

Do your research mate its amg engine which is a5.4 litre v8 kompressor actually. Its got the same engine as the e55 s55 sl55 slk55 c55 cls55 g55 and ml55 amg... the engine is mercedes Lool. Mclaren tuned the engine
I am watching this in December 2021 and the SLR still looks amazing, It was my dream car when it was launched and its still is.

I have only driven SLS AMG, and it was a pretty nice car. I can only imagine how great the SLR is. I have no trouble believing SLR McLaren is one of the finest pieces of automotive engineering ever made! I'd love to drive one someday...

@ 5:14: It may have originally cost 1/2 as much as an F1, but now it's worth about 1/50th of that same F1.
love this car. One of my favorite cruiser cars in Gran Turismo 6, I use it quite often. Fully upgraded it tops at 1005hp and around 1350kg :D

I remember first seeing this car in Project Gotham Racing 3 and it became an instant favorite of mine to fight Eric Pollak's "Go Go Gadget" Enzo Ferrari on the New York City Bridge Circuit. I wish Twitch existed back then so we could have had some kind of visual record to share with everyone years later. That McLaren was incredible.
One of the greatest exotic cars on Earth. It's absolutely gorgeous and simply oozes class, elegance and grace.
This is still is by far the greatest of all time Mercedes street car.

Watching this in 2019, listening to the phrase "Pulverizing" to describe a 0-100 kmph time of 3.8 seconds. Oh Jeremy, if only you knew how times would change.
after i heard the sound of MSO 722 and everytime i watch this car makes me appreciate this car even moar and yes the first time i saw this is in nfs carbon.
The part where he brakes from 120mph in the 60mph distance.
In a recent series they do the same test in a standard Vauxhall Insignia and managed it from 112mph.

Dear god i remember seeing this car in the flesh at the 2004 São Paulo Auto Show. I remember when they started the engine everybody stopped what they were doing to see what was going on. hell, I used to have this car's pamphlet on my bedroom wall like a poster. 17 years later and this is still a dream of a car
