Absolutely, the R35 did give Porsche a run for their money, not just with competitive pricing, but outright outrunning the 911 in a few certain years. To my memory, this was exactly from 2007-2013. Unfortunately, the R35 has since diminished against growing expectations, and coupled with rising MSRP, the 911 has the crown back. I also disagree with it guarding the door towards being a hypercar. I'd argue that door is definitively held by the 911 GT2 RS today. The Aventador SVJ, 488 Pista, and McLaren 765LT also get to claim dominion over that door. Given the same (competent) driver and the same (balanced) track - say, Suzuka, an R35, even in Nismo configuration, will not outpace the 4 cars listed above. Let's turn the clock 10 years back. I have kept watching this video for years, and it is still my dream car. I WILL own one someday, and I still can't believe the engineering for a car that reasonable. Nissan had great pride in this car, and it still shows today
Great conversation to have with somebody at the hospital "So, how did you hurt your neck?" "Well, a car was so fast in the corner that it gave me whiplash!"
15 year old video. 2024 now, the sound of that car going through the tires is the best thing I have ever heard from top gear/grand tour. Fighter jet indeed.
I don't think there will ever be a car I love more than the GTR. It's simply an ASTONISHING piece of engineering marvel. There is no better way to put it.
Watching this video in 2022, and this car still has a special place in my heart. I will get his Beast one day, no matter how many more years it takes me to save up for it.
xSleek34x What, you mean you buy it because you love the driving experience it brings, but because lots of people have bought them, that now makes people think you only bought it because lots of people have bought it. End of the day, you care too much about what people think. I would buy this car for the thrills, end of.
Alex Vennos GT-R Fanboys are ruining the car sure. But for every gt-r fanboy out there you get someone who talks shit about how this car and that car is waaay better than the gt-r. You know sometimes haters of the gt-r are even worse than the fanboys. Just look at the top comments on this video. Why must every gt-r video be ruined by fanboys and haters alike? It's a brilliant car and that should be the end of it.
There is something about the older r35 that I love way more than the newer ones. It’s smooth and subtle yet sharp and slick. The design of the bumper with its pseudo-canards and the main screen gauges being designed by polyphony. The car is subtle enough to pass as a simple sports car to the untrained eye but to one who knows, they will recognize it immediately.
I recently drove a 2011 facelifted model and holy crap! Best car I’ve ever driven! You can’t even begin to explain the feeling! One of the Greatest cars of all time
Looking at its performance capabilities, affordability, racing, fan base and etc, now its okay to say this is one of the best cars ever made, may be the best. A true successor for the Skyline GT-R.
Crazy how the world works, 11 years ago I saw this review..... and now 11 years later I reviewed the GTR myself. Never in my wildest dreams I’d think I would be behind the wheel of one. I Love Top Gear
And that's what exactly I love about the Nissan GTR it's real value for your money and it beats cars that are extremely expensive like Lambos Mclarens Ferraris very fast and beautiful car the Nissan GTR is I just love it. 👍🏼
Asgamon Really? The drag strip? I guess then all these AMS GTRs with 1-2-3000+ HP are there just for a walk ... Actually a Ferrari isn't meant for a drag strip. At all. You show up there even with LaFerrari and there will be enough GTRs that will whoop your ass. Of course that's normal, it's a much cheaper car with good tuning possibilities and a lot of development available. Anyway, a Ferrari isn't a drag strip horse, so no big deal...
I’ve driven an R35 and to this day it remains the most powerful and amazing car I’ve ever had the pleasure of driving. When you turn all the toggles to R mode it really becomes Godzilla. What struck me most about the car is that when you drive it in automatic mode, it drives as easy as a Maxima, and when you try to accelerate, the car won’t “let” you. It’s very restricted when in full auto mode. But when you go to manual mode, all bets are off. The thing accelerates like the damn devil. I remember it felt like riding the roller coaster called Greased Lightning, where it takes off like a bullet and you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach, the GT-R gives you the same feeling when you accelerate fast. It’s truly astonishing. I love this car. I wish I had gotten a second crack at it, but one was enough. Glad I still have the pictures and video from the experience 🤘🏻
The 2006 GT-R stock was 0-60 in 3.1 seconds the 2014 GT-R stock 0-60 is 2.9 second, Track a edition is 2.7 seconds, the Nismo Edition is 2.5 seconds and the Nissan GT-R with the AMC or Alpha package is 2.3 - 2.4 seconds. It also holds the record twice for fastest production car ever around the Norburing at 7:08 beating it's prior record of 7:19! I don't care what people say but this car is brutal on the track. If they keep improveing the GT-R like they did in the last 8 years imagine what this car will be like in 2020! My 2010 GT-R Black edition is one if the most comfortable cars I have driven to date!
no1aviator You also have to note that the GTR is about 1/10 the cost. They've always been amazing cars. I'm just thinking what Nissan would break the world with if it was to make a car with a price tag of the P1
Brandon Wood Yes I agree, not only is it extremely fast and can compete with alot of other super cars (occasionally just annihilates them), it's also really cheap in comparison to other supercars. The thing I love about the GTR is that it's a mans car! Women can drive Porsche and Mercedes but they would look dumb in a GTR lol :P
I know the latest GTR are way faster than this one, but it's really this one with those wheels as well, that bring nostalgia and superb emotion when i first saw this car 24/7 on UA-cam and then on the roads!
The only down side is that as soon as you drive one of these on the road, every boy racer and "fullysickstreetraceurrr...." will try and race you at every set of lights.
I had a chance to ride a gtr in los angeles my friend has one and the speed is just brutal you have to be careful with this car and only use the g force on open highway or long street but amazing is expensive he pay like 80k for his but a awesome machine
it sounds way better if you have it straight pipe and sometimes flames can kick out of the exhaust because of the force it has top speed is 190 miles per hour
And it's still an incredibly staggering car to this day. Anytime I spot one of these anywhere on the road, I get so flustered & giddy. Don't know why most of these beauties (especially crisp, low-mileage ones) aren't selling for around 120-150k by now. 🤔🤔

I watched this chapter literally more than a hundred times in ニコニコ動画 when I was a high school student. This didn't open the door to the supercar but instead it opened for me the world of British English. I just watched this for the first time in more than a decade and found out that I can catch many words I couldn't in those days. My life could have been a lot different without Top Gear.
LuwigChannel While it is super car fast, it doesn't have the ridiculous flare and glamour that a super car should have. An unsuspecting person could drive by this without another glance, while a super car like a Lamborghini catches people's attention.
superman7abcdefg It's a supercar. It makes more than 500 bhp, has racing spec brakes, tires, spoiler, engine and body, and IS rather noticeable. You might as well say a Ferrari F430 isn't a supercar then, since the styling is conservative. The GTR is a supercar in literally every objective way.

I have kept watching this video for years, and it is still my dream car. I WILL own one someday, and I still can't believe the engineering for a car that reasonable. Nissan had great pride in this car, and it still shows today
Watched this video a few years ago , bought one yesterday finally.
@@djmaisuria luckkkyyyyyyyy
It will happen.. Set your mind to it.
When he broke his neck, that was my selling point. And to think this was the old GTR! Truly mind blowing and impressive.
Great conversation to have with somebody at the hospital "So, how did you hurt your neck?" "Well, a car was so fast in the corner that it gave me whiplash!"
we still dreaming to have this car
Parlo Italiano dream no further you could own a redeye that has 797 hp and quicker to 60 before you could buy this car
Still dreaming here too lol
Still dreaming 4 yrs later
Still dreaming 😂😭
Rohail Khan stilllll dreaming in due time fam in due time 😂😂
The cinematography, just brilliant. Filming the GTR from behind the blinds like a caged animal!
This version of top gear is the best. The chemistry that Jeremy, James, and Hammond has is simply hilarious.
I love those 3 matez
its a good car, ruined by mindless fanboys.
Then I'm sure every Ferrari is "ruined" to oblivion by now...
Yep too many cars falling to the fanboy plague. ZR1 and the Camaro Z/28 now one of them.
xSleek34x What, you mean you buy it because you love the driving experience it brings, but because lots of people have bought them, that now makes people think you only bought it because lots of people have bought it.
End of the day, you care too much about what people think. I would buy this car for the thrills, end of.
Robert S
True enough, I'd love to have an Evo but I wouldn't care about the bad rep about it's typical drivers being assholes.
How is it ruined by people who love it?
An absolutely amazing car with an absolutely annoying fanbase.
Not going to lie, it ruins the appeal.
ruined it is an understatement. I would go as far to say they destroyed the GT-R name for all eternity.
***** tis a real shame :(
Alex Vennos GT-R Fanboys are ruining the car sure.
There's a difference between a dreamer, and actually owning one like myself
So Ian, is it all what they say it is in real life? Or just another false idol?
Nissan - The first car brand that broke Jeremy's neck
There is something about the older r35 that I love way more than the newer ones. It’s smooth and subtle yet sharp and slick. The design of the bumper with its pseudo-canards and the main screen gauges being designed by polyphony. The car is subtle enough to pass as a simple sports car to the untrained eye but to one who knows, they will recognize it immediately.
I would have the gtr over a veyron any day, and it cost £1000 to replace a tire, each. It's just so sexy.
That noise through the fallow through.... Orgasmic...
It certainly is!
Sophia Speciale ssssshhhhh
Sophia Speciale using a sexuality and mental issue as an insult, gotta love UA-cam comments
8:30. You are welcome
"You hopeless old fart - a Datsun broke your neck." ded
I recently drove a 2011 facelifted model and holy crap! Best car I’ve ever driven! You can’t even begin to explain the feeling! One of the Greatest cars of all time
Legend car R35&R34 skyline that is the killer the skyline R34 can give bad memories to M Motorsport/ Quattro Audi/ AMG
lmao, Clarkson cracks me up..."and that's due to the 1,000,000HP 3.8L V6"
@Fire Heart But tuning a car to that much only makes it good on straight lines, on a circuit race or endurance race it can be beaten by a Golf GTI.
@@novemberdelta1282 lmao show me a single video of a gti beating a gtr around a track
@@Modi_ ua-cam.com/video/F2jz7OlhCm4/v-deo.html
well, not exactly, but humiliation is humiliaton.
@Fire Heart Not a single peace of the original motor is left when it's been modified to that degree.
V6? ITS A V6?!
I Love Top Gear
the car that changed the car history....best review ever in top gear
best occupations in the world:
1. pornstar
2. the stig
what if the stig was a porn star, and that's why he doesnt show his face?
Ricky
could he secretly be james deen? :O
Yeah the stig is a lucky man
If being a pornstar is the best occupation, why doesn't everyone do it? It's not exactly a difficult profession to get into.
Not necessary in that order
And that's what exactly I love about the Nissan GTR it's real value for your money and it beats cars that are extremely expensive like Lambos Mclarens Ferraris very fast and beautiful car the Nissan GTR is I just love it. 👍🏼
Nicks 92 videos lol beats Ferrari's lol not on the drag strip
Asgamon Really? The drag strip? I guess then all these AMS GTRs with 1-2-3000+ HP are there just for a walk ...
Actually a Ferrari isn't meant for a drag strip. At all. You show up there even with LaFerrari and there will be enough GTRs that will whoop your ass. Of course that's normal, it's a much cheaper car with good tuning possibilities and a lot of development available.
Anyway, a Ferrari isn't a drag strip horse, so no big deal...
I bought my new 2018 GTR Nismo a few weeks ago and I have to say, it really is a magnificent vehicle.
Fastest production car around Nurburging? hahaha no. The Porsche 918 and the Mclaren P1 has done the Nurburging in under 7 minutes.
Calle Weitze Yes those two cars are now practically the future of all motoring!! You have to admit though, the GTR is also a great car!
no1aviator You also have to note that the GTR is about 1/10 the cost. They've always been amazing cars. I'm just thinking what Nissan would break the world with if it was to make a car with a price tag of the P1
Brandon Wood
Yes I agree, not only is it extremely fast and can compete with alot of other super cars (occasionally just annihilates them), it's also really cheap in comparison to other supercars. The thing I love about the GTR is that it's a mans car! Women can drive Porsche and Mercedes but they would look dumb in a GTR lol :P
Calle Weitze but the time was set like two years ago.
I owed one and an Evo X. Took them both to a track day and Evo's brakes faded after two fast laps. The GTR just kept getting faster with no issues. 👍👍
It took me 40 years to realise the Japanese make the best and most reliable cars in the world.
I know the latest GTR are way faster than this one, but it's really this one with those wheels as well, that bring nostalgia and superb emotion when i first saw this car 24/7 on UA-cam and then on the roads!

- Jezza has his neck injured -
“No, honestly, I hate to cause a fuss.”
Most British sentiment ever.
6:08 homie rolled up on the emergency lawn mower lmao
The only down side is that as soon as you drive one of these on the road, every boy racer and "fullysickstreetraceurrr...." will try and race you at every set of lights.
no thats the best thing, you drive off normally whilst they floor it and laugh your arse off as you drive past their car wrapped around a lamp post.
let them, make sure you have a dash cam when a truck T-bones them
I saw this video in 2010 and ever since then the r35 is my dream car. So many great are around but nothing beats the gtr for me.

😂🤦
holy shit did not expect his neck to actually give in!
+jill ian neck break speed, word!
PreludeBB6JDM
straight pipes almost always sound better in my opinion lol
***** yup :-)
"Sick, Sick, Sick" by QotSA was a fantastic touch.
Agreed!!! That was bad ass!!🤘🤘
man i miss these great old top gear reviews- no fluff, just a great car review by jezza
I watched this video 4 years ago, drooling and wishing for one....today, 4 years later, I finally have one!
I miss this top gear, clarkson is just so fun to watch and has such such nice commentary
That moment when you realise that the Grand Tour is out 😁😁😁😁😁
And it's still an incredibly staggering car to this day. Anytime I spot one of these anywhere on the road, I get so flustered & giddy. Don't know why most of these beauties (especially crisp, low-mileage ones) aren't selling for around 120-150k by now. 🤔🤔
I did a report on this car in 2008. Still, it keeps getting better.
Oh my God....a GTR broke his neck! That's amazing...
If I drive this beast, I will broke the car hahahaha
It's called acting.
acting with an actual stretcher!
I doubt there was enough G-force to actually break his neck. The most he could get is a minor neck injury.
well he's an old man and tall af. People that tall have soft bones if you dont constantly workout tbh.
Jeremy using the word "savage" before it was cool. Savage!!
"We need every emergency vehicle including the lawnmower!" Said the man on the radio.
8:28 that sound though
JP Lee You have to admit though... for a car that costs £53,000 it does make a really nice noise :D
My dream car :( Japan makes everything thats awesome....

Nissan GTR the best
Nissan GTR the beast! ^^
Still, one of Japans finest automobiles. When Japans on a roll, they really know how to make put out great cars.
I love British sense of humor. Id hang out with these dudes.
The literate version of the Three Stooges.
"Mash your mind in the corners"
*Shows him understeering of the track*
that wasnt understeer. tires squeal. if it was understeering it wouldnt be hitting those apexes. or set that insane lap time
@@damianstubbs8005 it definitely had some strong understeer through the corners, it mainly made up for it on the straights.
3.5 sec 0-100 for that amount of power it’s crazy and we’re talking 2009
Once a legend, always a legend
A million horse power…
The editing on this video 13 years ago still live today
I love GTR series when i was teenager.2018 dream come true 😁
They didn't build a car here, they built a new yardstick. Epic.
If i ever get the chance to own this car, which I will, Im not joking, I will cry. Absolutely masterpiece of a car
Everyone Loves this Beautiful Beast...
Steven Ethan well not for the muscle car fanboys calling all import cars ricer...
CarLover 815 I don't live in the USA. i dont mind import cars, and yes, im fond of muscle cars. I only dislike cars like this, filled with gismos and stupid drivers aids, 1000 controller and suspension car. A car for n erds. ANd yes, mostly those kind of cars are Japenese.
Because they are playstation addicts over there. I only say the GT-R is beautiful , but that's all i like about it, the design.
Ricky Smits Says the Veyron hater. Go to hell minger, play your playstation games. We love real machines, with heart, not four wheel laptops.
Ricers cars are for the whimps. They don't dare to handle a pure car, that doesn't need fancy shit.
A full on Japanese muscle car with four wheel drive and it's powerful 3.8L twin turbo V6 engine!! The Nissan GT-R is an amazing and beautiful looking car
It's got 4 seats.
Other than a Porsche Turbo what else is out there?
Amazing car.
Ian Edmonds BMW i8
Tesla Model S P90D? 5 seats with just over 760 horsepower, 2.8 sec 0 - 100kmh and 10k less then the GT-R
kenanlambo not even in the same league in terms of cornering and handling.
Bert R Have you driven one? I have driven an P85D for a week, cornering is magnificent. For example I could take long oval highway exits with 160kmh with ease
kenanlambo Those are some fearsome numbers. I'll check it out. Just to look. Unfortunately not a realistic buying proposition for me currently.
I'm driving this ;)
...in Real Racing 3 :(
Hey.....SAME!! I just got the JR-Sportsteam GT1 GTR, to complete my GTR roster
Specs: 2.6 acceleration, 212mph top speed, 135g downforce
Huh, HUH?? Not bad, ey??
Sick, Sick, Sick by QotSA at approx. 1:40.
Someone on the Top Gear staff really like josh homme. It continues into Grand Tour as well.
Just absolutely fan-bloody-tastic, my favourite peasant supercar… loved Top Gear and the heroic 3…. Good o’ days.
Wait play that sound of the GT-R in the follow-thru?
Wow. That is ungodly.
8:30 wow.. I love this car more and more
5:53 This is why Wu-Tang made 'Protect Ya Neck'.
Nissan GTR. Think this might be the fastest non-super, street-legal car.
Lance Williams Notice how he said "non-super"
superman7abcdefg GTR is a supercar
no it isn't its a plastic Datsun...
