*Disclaimer: Unfortunately, the UA-cam algorithm thrives on titles and thumbnails that could be perceived as clickbait. Although I find this particularly distasteful, as a means of reaching a new audience or encouraging my current audience to invest their time into my videos, I must work with the algorithm rather than against it. Statistics have highlighted just how effective aligning titles with the algorithm is and although this can be frustrating for many (myself included), I will always ensure that my titles:
    1. Never promote false promises or unrealistic expectations.
    2. Will more often than not ask a question.
    3. Are worded in a manner that although might be perceived a certain way, are still open to interpretation.
Appealing to more potential viewers gives me the opportunity to further the spread of what I believe to be useful information surrounding the topic in question, in addition to a positive message which often surrounds mental health, with the goal of helping as many people as possible.
It should also be noted that the majority of my videos are based on audience suggestions. ~90% of my audience are women, therefore, the majority of videos are created to appeal to my dominant audience.
It must also be noted that although goals often vary amongst individuals, a lot of my opinions on movements are within the context of building muscle (hypertrophy) and therefore, should be considered with that in mind.

As someone who has always been thin, I used to think I ate soooo much. Turns out I just ate a bunch of junk food but will still eating under what I needed. I got full on energy drinks and lots of sweet liquids. I just never felt too hungry. After turning 28ish I started eating less junk food and paying attention to what I ate and have gained about 20lbs in the last 2 years. She probably feels like she is eating a lot, but isn't actually.

People used to ask me if I was anorexic because I was too thin.
After the pandemic I had to start taking sleeping aid meds, and anxiety meds, and I'm not as thin but still underweight, but the bigger I ever was...
If I look, I feel I'm fat, if I look in the mirror, I didn't change as much. The only thing different is that I used to walk a lot, and had no ideia that was making me lose weight, and not allowing me to gain any...

The thing with Zoe is that she is so deep into it that she doesn’t even know how to strike the right tone. It’s not normal to casually talk about how much you can eat all the time.
If you really feel like that, go to your doctor and get checked for diseases and Tapeworms. If it turns out to be something rare you have make a science based video about your metabolism.
Zoe knows how to use the words off healthy relationship with food but has carved them out until they hold no meaning whatsoever. For her eating well and being healthy are just interesting as far as you look good doing it.
She should not spread this mindset to other people, I‘m serious.

I used to watch Zoe's videos particularly her commentary videos. However her content started to really bother me, especially her videos regarding health, fitness and commentary on body types. Being skinny seems to be a great part of her internet persona, and her whole "skinny girl who can eat a lot and still remain skinny" used to be my ED personality, so I had to stop watching her for my own mental health. Additionally I really don't like how she tackles thin privlege and body positivity, with a recent video of hers even has her arguing that "ugly" girls get less se*ually harassed due to their "ugly privlege" which is not only super condescending but also a big misconception that is just very dangerous. She really rides this whole "skinny people have it bad too" and can't seem to make a video on obese people without slipping back to that narrative and I don't really get why she bothers.

I've had this conversation a lot with the people in my life who are "naturally" slim/skinny, a lot of them think they eat more than what they actually eat, and when they do actually eat a *lot* on occasion and reach a calorie surplus they'll then feel satiated for the next day or couple of days and eat less than normal so it balances everything out. It's been really eye-opening for me to observe their eating habits and compare and contrast them to mine.

    • @trinketeerrine6674
      @trinketeerrine6674 8 місяців тому +9

@@yara-um6tx Yes ! That's such a good point! The number of meals per day is also something to take into account and people tend to assume everyone is eating 3 to 4 times a day. What we (wrongly) attribute to a fast metabolism (or a slow one) a lot of the time is actually just eating habits, plain and simple. I've also come to understand that when we say "a lot of food" we don't always mean the same thing, in fact it tends to vary wildly from person to person, it's really interesting to have open and honest conversation about food, it really put things into perspective for me.

I used to say this sort of thing when I was in the throes of an eating disorder, I would eat nothing all day and just have black tea and zero sugar sodas/energy drinks until dinner and then I’d have a big portion of food. Sure I was eating a lot but it was under my daily caloric needs.
I feel like while Zoe does genuinely believe that what she’s doing is good for her, she’s unknowingly promoting diet culture and unhealthy eating habits.

  • @squirrelsadventures6553

About a year ago, Zoe started randomly popping up in my recommendations, and from the VERY FIRST second, she created nothing but absolute confusion in my head tbh. Every video of her is kind of anti diet culture but pro diet culture at the same time...? Same with this video. It's this "eating everything I want without any restriction" and the emphasis on IF not being a diet that seems like she's so against any form of diet culture, but all of those tips and talks about staying skinny are exactly diet culture.
Furthermore, regarding what she claimed right in the beginning seems a bit fishy to me about eating more than the people around her. I mean, imagine there are two people both aiming to eat 2500 kcals. Person one eats them throughout the day, person two (Zoe) eats them all in a much smaller time frame. When they meet at a party or dinner or whatever and Person one has already eaten a good amount while person two obviously hasn't, it's quite logical that Person two is eating more in that specific time they meet, so obviously it seems like person two is eating more despite both eating equal amounts. I feel like that's where she gets that impression of eating "so much more than everyone else" from.

"she's so against any form of diet culture, but all of those tips and talks about staying skinny are exactly diet culture." you're spot on with this. She's desperate to take advantage of the 'love your body' culture shift while being the living embodiment of 2000's diet advice. She's not like other girls, you know - she can eat everything she wants AND be skinny. Don't you wish you were her?

I dieted for years to become skinny and as a result my stomach capacity shrunk so I can only eat a little at a time before becoming full. I also purposely take care to keep my calories down to maintain my figure.
I eat much less than I did when I was average-sized and much less than everyone I know. Everyone says I “eat like a bird”. So when someone is skinny and says they eat a ton and/or whatever they want, I’m like 🤨

On the other hand I could never eat the same amount of fast food, I would feel awful. People seem to forget that our metabolic functions at the present are a result from the past and how we live our life massively effects how much we can and want to eat.

  • @justaname999

The first point is one that leads many people to believe weird things about their caloric intake. Unless you actually track and add up, most people have no idea how many calories they actually consume. And it can be so deceptive and easy to forget.
I have the stomach of a sparrow and feel full really fast. I've never had the issues some people on diets report. Hunger was never the culprit in my case but what *has* caused issues are small, high calorie snacks that can go unnoticed so easily but add a ton of calories to my average intake.
That's how I'd gain weight during stressful times like around the final months of my thesis. I would eat very balanced healthy meals, "just like always" but then, when I'd feel light-headed after writing or coding all night, there'd be some nuts or a chocolate bar. And even in just two months, this added up significantly and it took a while to realize how many superfluous calories I was actually consuming and to go back to my normal weight. Obviously, going back to a normal daily life helped a lot :)

Her title already putting emphasis on staying skinny bums me out. It feels like it leans into the idea that if you eat a lot of food and gain weight, then you’ve failed, and that you are less beautiful if you’re not skinny. When, like we try to encourage here, going into a surplus/gaining weight doesn’t need to be a moral failing. Even when you’ve fallen short or not achieved a goal in your nutrition/fitness, YOU are not a failure. And, whether you are skinny or not does not affect your worth. You are lovely regardless of that. I know I still struggle to not tie this morality and beauty standard to weight, it can be hard, so I personally don’t appreciate her titling. I hope over time, that kind of clickbait that emphasizes insecurity will decrease, and can be replaced with genuine encouragement

I don't think Zoe is intentionally being malicious with her messaging, but it is definitely misleading. She has videos showing her gorging on massive amounts of food, yet doesn't say definitively if that's her only meal that day or if she restricts the week afterward. I'm assuming that since she fasts, it may be her only meal. I just wish she would say that instead of sounding like "I'm so skinny but I eat more than the average man!" It's just going to put younger and less educated viewers into a poor mindset.

Intermittent fasting for health reasons is one thing, but what Zoe does is another level, I've seen her vlog once where she literally stuffed herself with 3 plates for one meal, it's not good for the stomach to handle this amount of food. Also, staying "skinny" and gaining 10 pounds of muscle kind of exclude each other, Zoe doesn't seem like a muscular person 😂 but doing resistance training when underweight is a lot of stress for the body so probably she's burning quite some energy with it. I'm just glad I chose to gain weight and all that stress of Being skinny is over. Muscle mommy era lesgooo
