      I don't know much about her but my impression is that she is one of those influencers who has a fan base backing her up so you don't see her being called out much because those comments usually get eradicated before they can do any impact

    I think her problem is that she is very hypocritical, she has many videos criticizing diet culture, body and beauty standards, etc. but she herself makes videos about how skinny she is, and how much she can eat without gaining weight. She seems to care A LOT about her appearance. So I personally can't like a person who does the exact opposite that they preach

    Finally someone reading little miss Grifter and her hollier than thou, self-serving advice.
    It will never cease to amaze me how easily someone like her can build a platform to comvince herself (and others in the process) that her eating, fitness and lifestyle are ones to follow and it is all about 'mindset'.

    As someone with executive dysfunction who sometimes (less often in recent years because I'm working on it) literally doesn't notice I'm hungry and therefore forget to eat, the "starvation mode" and "metabolic damage" thing really just added stress into my life, which further supressed my appetite and hunger signals which just leads to even less eating again. Thank you for stating it doesn't work that way.

      @@h027sOMG I came here to say the exact same thing as you! I completely forgot to eat during my exam years, on multiple occasions. To the point that I passed out in a shop (and was “revived” with Dr Pepper as an easy source of sugar). I’m one of those people with reliable hunger cues, but for years that completely disappeared. At the time, I didn’t even know that was a thing.

      This used to be me as a tween, I wasn’t even worried about my body image, I just wouldnt feel compelled to eat until it’s 8pm and then I’m like oh shit I haven’t eaten the whole day
      Now, I always associate 12pm and 6pm as meal times (breakfast differs, just whenever I wake up), even if I don’t feel hungry. This helped me create a regular eating schedule & id like to think I’m a lot healthier now

    Hola Señor Harry. First of all, kinda missing the hats, just saying. Second of all, don't apologize for being ackward, we are all a bunch of weirdos doing our best to walk in this life hoping to connect with people who see who we are and not only appreciate our own sense of ackwardness but maybe even add to it. And third of all, I've been wanting to say this for some time, and figured today might be the day. While your outtro mentions toleration, you thank your audience for tolerating you and your video, I have to say while I am certain is intended in nothing but humour, which you certainly have; it's gives my body a reaction. As a person who struggles daily with self-esteem and self-deprecating talk and I continue also to daily work on changing that narrative about myself; I would love to see you stop saying that. You are a fantastic soul and human being who is out here showing up for yourself and your community. You are open about the challenges you face in this journey of being human, you are transparent, supportive, encouraging, kind, knowledgeable. You are learning to find health, love and kindness in yourself and want nothing but the same of those around you and in the community TFNL creates. We see you, we hear you, we appreciate you, we walk with you, virtually or in the city tube. You, nor your content, is something that needs tolerating. You are a human soul that deserves to take up space in this world, and have your voice heard. Love to you

    I wonder if "damaging the metabolism" refers to the (very likely) downregulation of thyroid T3 due to the Hypothalamus shutting down in prolongued/extreme caloric deficits (= no TRH signalling and subsequently no TSH)
    In this case, certain metabolic functions are "decreased" and your BMR is even lower than you'd expect from say just the fat loss.
    This CAN be reversed however and doesn't have to be longterm. (Most likely a caloric suprlus is needed)

She either has a blessed metabolism genetically or more likely, does not eat anywhere near as much as she advertises herself too. One note about damaged metabolism due to starvation or calorie restriction… I’m not a dr or a scientist but according to studies there is some truth there… I’m only saying what I’ve found online. Also you can go back to normal metabolism after it was disrupted also according to studies.

      Your organs were probably so damaged that all the calories were being used to heal them rather than put weight on you, speeding up your metabolism to the point where it took you 4000 calories to gain. In short, you were still burning more than you consumed. I’m assuming once you were weight restored you didn’t need to eat as much

    Oh, if you take suggestions: Is there such a thing as preferred muscle development? Similar to what would be found in fat storage in different body types. I have to actually be really overweight to gain a lot around my middle, whereas even when I'm at my normal weight, I still have extra padding in my thigh/bum areas. But is there such a thing a muscle development types?
    Despite doing progressive overload on different parts, I'm noticing that the progress in my pecs/shoulders/arms is slower, as is muscle development, whereas I can almost look at a machine and feel my leg muscles and glutes develop. Same for my back muscles.
    Is that just due to me coming into training with a head-start in my legs? I've been a dancer all my life and my legs and torso have always been fairly well-trained.
    Or is it just a sex-based difference? Or is there no truth to this at all?

    People that starve in poor countries just keep on starving and never get access to the amount of food we do here in the west. If they were to get access to these types of food they would become overweight very quickly. Just take a look at the pacific islands where obesity is destroying communities. Your argument doesn’t stand here. Starving yourself do “wreck” your métabolism in a way that it will put on weight quicker to counteract the lack of food. It is an advantage when food is scarce. Not an advantage when you have unlimited access to food like we do here in the west.

      This is addressed in the description, but in short, 90+% of viewers are women, and as videos are done based off of viewer suggestions, they typically request videos of female content creators, as those are the creators they are primarily watching. Videos on male influencers like Bret Contreras and Ryan Read have been done in the past (specifically calling out potentially problematic behaviors towards their female clients), but otherwise it has made sense to cater to the majority audience. I hope that helps! 🙂

    6:17 This feels quite misleading to me. While it is true that any extra tissue will increase your basal metabolic rate, fat mass requires significantly less than muscle mass, but you make it sound like it makes no difference, which isn't correct.

    • @TFNL
      @TFNL  Рік тому +2

      I disagree. I stated that having more muscle mass will increase BMR. I stated that having more fat mass will increase BMR. Both statements are 100% true and the interpretation that they yield the same increase in BMR is an assumption, not something I stated. 1kg of fat burns an additional ~4kcals per day, 1kg of muscle burns an additional ~12kcals each day - that’s not hugely significant in my opinion, especially considering the difference between a 10kg gain of either is 80kcals (that’s less than two Oreo cookies per day). I hope that clears things up!

    • @DANGJOS
      @DANGJOS Рік тому

      @@TFNL That's what I said. I never said your statement was incorrect. Your statement is 100% correct, as I said in my second sentence. What I was saying is that the *way* you presented it is misleading. People watching this will likely think that whether or not you have fat mass or muscle mass, the extra calories burned are no different, and that is incorrect. That's what you were implying by your statement in the video. Again, your statement is *not* incorrect; it's the implication that is misleading.
      I agree that the difference in calories that you burn isn't too large, unless you put on a massive amount of muscle, but I think it would have been better if you mentioned that there is a difference (a pretty significant difference actually) between the amount of calories burned per kg of muscle versus fat tissue, but the difference isn't that significant, instead of making it sound like it makes no difference.
      Admittedly, I probably should have said that it's a little misleading, rather than quite misleading.
