4:40 I was wondering why he was throwing out shoryukens at such long range. A few seconds later, it all made perfect sense, and all I could do was scream and cheer along with the crowd.
@duckie258 The Shoryuken motion can be input as Forward > Down > Down Forward > Forward +punches. Notice the last 3 motions(d, df, f=QCF) are the same as the first three motions of your super (QCF). When you do a shoryuken motion, you've already buffered half of your super, so if you input it again right after, the super will come out automatically. It acts as a basic option select against Dhalsim while "fishing" for limbs.
WOW DAIGO. I JUST LOVE how he's throwing hadokens to just think about what he's gonna do. Its a great way to calcutate everything. Most amazing sf4 player on earth :)
I'm watching this aswell, years on... Still the best match. So much technology of the game shown and this was like weeks after the game was released... Incredible.
I just realised Daigo didn't have this super bar fully charged at 4:24 and 4:25. I'm guessing if the shoryu lands, it woulda give him enough to charge up the bar. PS: Just look at how fast the shinku followed the shoryu. Nobody in the world has such amazing reaction times unless it's an option select.
wow watching high level dhalsim play from 1 and a half years ago is really cool. it's much more active, much riskier. lots more jumps, more moving forward, more attempted antiairs, etc. very different style. seeing a game's strategies evolve over time is pretty interesting.
Best Sim in the world. He won the Japanese SF4 tournament and almost beat Daigo in this one! He definitely is the best Sim in the world, bar none and a pleasure to watch!!
you may see the mistakes made but it's also the mentality daigo placed in iyo's head that made iyo do the things he did and the mistakes he made. it's a lot of mind games going on that are beyond just execution and reaction.
sim is one of the hardest character to learn man because he's got really low hp, super slow, and must live by zoning. it would take years to get as good as iyo with the pokes and zoning. iyo played sim since sf2
Daigo still placed in the nationals, and is clearly capable of beating iyo, as seen here. And he beat Justing wong at evo, AND crushed the man at season's beatings. Daigo is no scrub.
Notice that when Daigo dashed -> whiffed SRK, he dashed into Dhalsim's poke range. If he was strictly trying to be conservative with fireballs, he would not have taken the risk of dashing into Dhalsim's poke range.
he's doing crouching light punch because it looks at the beginning it looks like a standing fierce. It's how Iyo use to confuse his opponents on when he'll throw his standing fiece because they are so easy to counter. Iyo was baiting Diago to try to Shoyuken he's standing fierce when he's actually throwing crouching jab.
.0000001% life is still life. as much as i love iyo, since i play sim as well, daigo won that round. he knew iyo was gonna poke him at that moment and he countered with shoryuken into super. this is the only match i see daigo throw random shoryuken but its to keep the sim honest and not throw too many random pokes. it worked in daigo's fav this time.
one reason is because the Japanese and Korean players play mainly in the arcade which meant they had to practice at all against those extra characters. But to be a bit more fair they shouldve at least allowed akuma/gouki at least since hes available in the arcade.
@FiveEcho Yup it's not luck. I think, in my humble opinion, it's called option-select. Basically, Daigo inputs a light shoryu and then a shinku hadoken immediately after. Two things can happen after this combination. One, if the shoryu didn't land, then the shinku won't be executed and Daigo will just do a light shoryu. Two, if the shoryu lands, then the shinku will immediately follow. This explains the numerous 'random' shoryus that Daigo's been throwing out at 4:24 and 4:25 and 4:46.
Daigo is just on a different level...especially when he is very closing to losing a round...im not trying to make a reference to that chunli parry just like everyone one on youtube does...but he just is the best in the world, no question about it.
@duckie258 Basically Daigo just does a light shoryuken every so often to try and catch the very end of Dhalsim's hand. He inputs the motion for a light shoryuken plus he inputs a quarter circle forward plus hard punch right after the shoryuken. So if he misses the limbs he'll just do a shoryuken and he'll be in the air so Ryu's super won't come out accidentally since he's in the air, But if he connects with the limbs then he'll cancel the shoryuken straight into Ryu's super & it should hit
if you were at that moment, yes I agree you would lose. But that was Daigo at that moment, he didn't mind 't care about his health too much till he was done. That's why even with one HP, he still remains calm and find the way out.
its because he had been hit in the air so nothing else could hit him till he touched the ground, and when he did the ex shoryuken had invincibility to get him out of there. A lot of characters can do the same thing as long as they have invincibility on the move.
Daigo plays with whoever gives him the best advantage. He played with Ken in III because they suped him up like crazy. The main advantage for Ryu in IV is his Super and Ultra, all he has to do is get his opponent in the air and he can hit, whereas with Ken you're forced to combo into it. But with Ryu? Medium Shoryu, dash cancel, instant Super/Ultra opportunity.
first off i'd just like say that was a good dhalsim and secondly daigo umehara! the man is champ, plays like a champ he switches his game up at the last round get's all up in dhalsims face and he aint got no answer. That's the hallmark of a champ in any field they are able to bring it on in various ways when the situations dictates it and that takes more than just plain skill u need nerves of steel and u need true belief that wat u're doing is right for the occasion.
That's because Ryu was hit mid air with a punch from Dhalsim. Naturally if its not a knockdown hit (like a shoryu instead), Ryu would just flip back and he will become invincible until he drops down to the ground. And while you're in the ground, EX shoryus practically escapes everything.
@Marceles45 it wasnt reaction, he was doing the motions for a dp super cancel. if the dp whiffs its just whiffs. if it hits or is blocked it cancels into super. it works well on dhalsim since he can't block a srk from half screen so it will only hit him if he sticks out a limb.
wow, Exciting to watch. makes you wonder is Daigo learning and teaching in the heat of this match, in like 7 rounds? Dude is really a dangerous mind! Dude wins across different games, almost predictably, always elevating the most chosen, some would say scrub-friendly, character, Ryu, to tournament status, still gets respect, remains someone to watch. Speaks only Japanese?, but speaks the universal language of beat-down quite fluently, in several dialects.
Best match of the tourney; how did Iyo not make it to the finals to face Daigo? I have to see Iyo's match versus Justin Wong I guess. Daigo time and time again pulls off amazing comebacks. Round 4 in this match was just brilliant.
Really sad to see such a great Dhalsim lose. If those trades into supers and ultras weren't the most blatant example of Shoto cheesiness I don't know what is.
he uses it to space. amateur players are afraid to hadouken like this because they feel they are spamming, what they dont realize though is that ryu's game is all about spacing and his hadoukens are perfect for spacing.
"cancelling" Basically just means *As the ANIMATION for 1 move is coming out you input the command for a 2nd move that it will combo into* An easy cancel would be Quarter circle down to forward punch *with ryu to throw a fireball* and then immediately doing ANOTHER quarter circle down to forward and hitting punch again for the super so you'd do DTF Punch DTF punch quickly and what would come out is 1 fireball...then super...and it would combo, if that makes sense.
Iyo was at the middle of avoiding hadouken. It takes time to get back to the normal position. If Iyo jump quickly and teleport to execute his awesome combo, Daigo would get back to the position that he can guard. It's hard to cause Daigo keep a very good distance to save time.
Some of the English voices are actually good though. Rose, Rufus, Seth, Guile, Boxer, Claw, and to a lesser extent Dictator all have excellent ones in my opinion. Most of those fit better than the Japanese ones I think.
after fighting Seth enough times pulling off a shoryuken FDC on a low stretch punch doesn't seem to difficult. but to pull off that ex hadouken FDC into an ultra is a whole different ball game. You have to pull of the ultra command durring the dash to get it to connect, very tough on D-Pad.
@FiveEcho Yes, Daigo definitely doesn't fit the definition of spammers. Spammers are people who try to get AWAY from the opponent just to fire their projectiles.
The best matches Ever .. Both Daigo and Iyo played so freaking good. They're equally Skilled .Dhalsim being a lower tier and extremely hard to play my hat off to Iyo(There's like 2 Dhalsim player for 1000 Ryu player for a reason) . Sticking to the character he love playing and kicking ass with him.
wow he is really my SF4 hero right now... who can defeat this guy....all those opponents... momochi, justin, iyo.. all those beast players and he is the best... 1 word... AMAZING!
Mastering the basics is key to being good at anything. All high level players have mastered the basics. As for the tier system it doesn't mean jack, If all the high level players used Claw(Vega in America) he would be the hi-tier everybody bitched about. Thats how the tier system works.
The fighting system in SF4 was super smooth!!
4:40 I was wondering why he was throwing out shoryukens at such long range. A few seconds later, it all made perfect sense, and all I could do was scream and cheer along with the crowd.
I had rewatched that section in slow mo @ 0.5 speed & figured out how shoryuken was effective in throwing Dhalsim
4:22 Setting him up w/ those missed shoryukens and hadoukens.
2021 and it's still awesome
There are certain moves that only Daigo can perform.
It's not only that he did the impossible, it's that he did it at the optimal moment.
Amazing! This is the best match that I've ever seen. I love the crowd intensity which makes this vid even better!
5/5
I love how both of these dude standing up there all clam and emotionless....
Daigo seems to work well under pressure... He is really a comeback kid.
oh shit that 5th round was close.
I didn't know you played Street Fighter lol.
Wtf dyrus
I play this game everyday, so hopefully I can make it one of the EVO tourneys. It's amazing just watching the pro players.
Have you?
Have you?
Have you?
Have you?
Have you?
A piece of the legend Daigo...
Epic fight. Iyo's Sim is great. Changing up the gameplan and adapting well. Daigo's reflexes are unbelievable though, 4:47 was nuts!!!
WOW DAIGO. I JUST LOVE how he's throwing hadokens to just think about what he's gonna do. Its a great way to calcutate everything. Most amazing sf4 player on earth :)
i thought at the end, reaching to pocket, more insert coins
I'm watching this aswell, years on... Still the best match. So much technology of the game shown and this was like weeks after the game was released... Incredible.
One of the best SFIV Vanilla matches of all time. I remember i was extremly impressed then.
Dhalsim put up a very good fight.
11 years ago 💀i am fucking old.
@@abdullahszn4167 yeah you are you middle aged loser Jesus go get a life
Wtf is Rong with you, did i say anything wrong? Did i sadly offend you?
@@abdullahszn4167 😂😂😂
4:47 Maybe the most awesome thing I have ever seen done in a video game. That is pwnage and mastery...
I just realised Daigo didn't have this super bar fully charged at 4:24 and 4:25. I'm guessing if the shoryu lands, it woulda give him enough to charge up the bar.

EPIC MATCH. Gotta be one of my all-time favorites.
Dhalsim’s weakness of being thrown in close range is obvious during 3rd fight
Best Sim in the world. He won the Japanese SF4 tournament and almost beat Daigo in this one! He definitely is the best Sim in the world, bar none and a pleasure to watch!!
4:54 Daigo daigoing, priceless.
you may see the mistakes made but it's also the mentality daigo placed in iyo's head that made iyo do the things he did and the mistakes he made. it's a lot of mind games going on that are beyond just execution and reaction.

The designer of Dhalsim would be proud. Iyo represents him like no other.
I didn't think that anyone could use Sim well in SF IV. Glad to see there are indeed people that can.
Daigo still placed in the nationals, and is clearly capable of beating iyo, as seen here.
And he beat Justing wong at evo, AND crushed the man at season's beatings. Daigo is no scrub.
lol at Iyo being a new face. He's only been playing since SF2CE, and he's a CVS2 legend.
One of the best matches i've watched so far, Iyo sim is sik and daigo's still a beast
Notice that when Daigo dashed -> whiffed SRK, he dashed into Dhalsim's poke range. If he was strictly trying to be conservative with fireballs, he would not have taken the risk of dashing into Dhalsim's poke range.
Daigo is amazing and this match is still 1 of the best SF4 matches I have ever seen.
4:47 just kills everything!

please people give it up for Iyo-he is the best dhalsim player i have ever seen :)
daigo's reactions are amazing
Yes, because everyone with a tag with 'daigo' or even 'diago' in it is the Legend himself :)
One of the best SF4 match I've ever seen. Both players are amazing. Daigo is a beast, & Iyo is a god of Dhalsim
Damn edge of my seat these two mastters of their fields
Best exhibition of the SF4 era!
.0000001% life is still life. as much as i love iyo, since i play sim as well, daigo won that round. he knew iyo was gonna poke him at that moment and he countered with shoryuken into super. this is the only match i see daigo throw random shoryuken but its to keep the sim honest and not throw too many random pokes. it worked in daigo's fav this time.

what a great video... thanks for posting it....
I am so in love with iyo's dhalsim. ITS SO GODLY PLEASE GIVE ME THOSE DH SKILLS!!!!!
Daigo is good and Iyo is no push over either, people need to remember that.
4:48 was straight pro, damn he has good reaction skills
probably the best match I've ever seen and it's a few months old now
This fight was so much better than the Grand Finals between Daigo and Justin.
Vanilla SF4 was the best IMO, and this match proves it.
its because he had been hit in the air so nothing else could hit him till he touched the ground, and when he did the ex shoryuken had invincibility to get him out of there. A lot of characters can do the same thing as long as they have invincibility on the move.
You gotta see more of Daigo's matches. This dude is the truth.

Aww man... If Iyo won that fourth round it would've been 4-1. Truely a crazy match.
That's because Ryu was hit mid air with a punch from Dhalsim. Naturally if its not a knockdown hit (like a shoryu instead), Ryu would just flip back and he will become invincible until he drops down to the ground. And while you're in the ground, EX shoryus practically escapes everything.
iyo is just a master at dodging and weaving those hadokens, i wish i could play like that
@Marceles45 it wasnt reaction, he was doing the motions for a dp super cancel. if the dp whiffs its just whiffs. if it hits or is blocked it cancels into super. it works well on dhalsim since he can't block a srk from half screen so it will only hit him if he sticks out a limb.
Daigo predicted the punch/kick coming and shoryuken it, theres no maybes about it.
In the end it said "Ryu wins", so you can't say he lost this fight.
one of the best SFIV fights I ever seen

wow...now i know why they call Daigo "The Beast" this was literally my face- :O
You can tell that Daigo saw that punch coming...he tried it once, but failed...then the second time...he got it!!! ^_^
This wasn't the final. The Final was J Wong and Daigo. Iyo just went 1-3. I wanna see it too!
always seeing that double hurricane kick ex is NICE!!!
Watched this match now about 30 times and it never gets boring.
By far the best street fighter 4 fight I've ever seen.
Best match of the tourney; how did Iyo not make it to the finals to face Daigo? I have to see Iyo's match versus Justin Wong I guess. Daigo time and time again pulls off amazing comebacks. Round 4 in this match was just brilliant.
The beast was unleashed on the 7º round. =]
One of the best matches I've ever seen...
That was great.
@UltraDavid lol agreed.....thats y i went back to check this out...reminisce
i dont give a damn how good some is with dhalsim once you get inside on him the match is pretty much over as you saw in that last round
6:45 diago focus cancels into a throw after iyo blocks. badass. im not quite there yet
by far the best dhalsim user there is too bad he got matched up against daigo right away
it wouldve been better if they played in the finals
"cancelling" Basically just means *As the ANIMATION for 1 move is coming out you input the command for a 2nd move that it will combo into* An easy cancel would be Quarter circle down to forward punch *with ryu to throw a fireball* and then immediately doing ANOTHER quarter circle down to forward and hitting punch again for the super so you'd do DTF Punch DTF punch quickly and what would come out is 1 fireball...then super...and it would combo, if that makes sense.

It's first to four wins, therefore if each player wins three rounds, the fourth win (7th round) would be the tiebreaker
You pretty much have to guess/anticipate that. Umehara might be able to hit them on reaction, but not most people.
I think Iyo is third ranked japan player at the moment, behind Umehara and Mago respectively.
Crazy as hell! This guy is SF GoD
Some of the English voices are actually good though. Rose, Rufus, Seth, Guile, Boxer, Claw, and to a lesser extent Dictator all have excellent ones in my opinion. Most of those fit better than the Japanese ones I think.
that was epic. get comeback and i love the double flying kick for the last match.

Being easy to pick up does not make a character overpowered. Perhaps at the lower levels of play, but at the upper echelon, it matters not.
