The original recordings of 2009 SF4 top 8 and random pool play are in 720p at 30 FPS and you can find better reuploads of Daigo/Justin GF elsewhere on UA-cam (from ShaolinSoccerV2 for example).
it's a little thing called zoning, dunno if you've heard of it. it's quite amazing actually how confident daigo is in throwing those hadokens -- just goes to show he knows when it's safe. it gives him great control over the map so he can call the shots and put on the pressure. i mean, how often do you see him get hit by a jump-in?
i was gonna enter this contest for this weekend, registration was only $10, but i realized i dont wanna get embarrassed that bad in front of that many people.
Wong may be really good, but I am always amazed at how well Diago can trick people in order to get that one quick moment where the enemy is open so he can dish out massive damage.
@andrewmari its because daigo doesnt only use fireballs. u see alot of range gauging and waiting for his moment to get inside and deal some serious damage where as most people online try to play keep away and fireball 100% of the match. also in this level of competition fireballs as next to worthless as u can see if you watch the health bars all those fireballs and only about 1% dmg is taken from them
Everyone can hate on Daigo and Wong as much as they want, but when push comes to shove, these two are among the cream of the crop. They're both talented players who constantly prove their worth in Street Fighter, win or lose. Granted, Wong can't be pretty full of him self, and Daigo just seems to exist at the stick sometimes, in the long run, we can talk all we want, but these guys are good. Enough said.
of course it wasn't, the video probably suffered the process of being downloaded from somewhere then re uploaded a few times, suffering shit tons of compression and quality loss in the process
@DarkNatasX The two people commentating are Seth Killian, who works for Capcom and Skisonic, one of the most respected people in the fighting game community. Neither of them work for IGN. IGN got the rights to record and distribute the matches and nothing else. Please refrain from talking about things you know nothing about. Thanks in advance!
Because he's played Ryu for close to most of his career. He started with Akuma in A2, but when Valle beat him with Ryu he decided to switch out of respect, and stuck with him ever since. He switched to Yun in AE because he became sponsored and said he wanted the best performance possible. However he's now gone back to Ryu since that's where his roots are, completely re-working aspects of his game to step himself up to another level. Hope that helps. :)
@Tension027 Ah, I didnt know you were referring to EVO. Yeah, they're pretty much the main event there every time,I totally agree with you. Have a nice day :) .
@HiTEqMETHOD Not sure whether you were referring to Daigo or the people commenting when you said "but only some ignorant little kid would let that bother them". But if it was the former, then such things definitely has an effect. For this reason sports teams playing at home counts as an advantage. But whether or not it affects Daigo I'm not sure. He says he has learned to be completely relaxed and apparently didn't even notice the cheering in EVO 2004 during his amazing comeback until afterwards
Well you said "if Daigo won", which he did. Then I pointed out that the audience obviously didn't cheer as hard as they would have if Wong landed a single jab onto Daigo which you probably didn't get.
Wong is quite bold to use Abel. Abel is quite tricky to avoid if you ate very close to him. That's why you see Daigo being very careful not to get caught.
@fasterthansound101 yes it is. ive seen hundreds of people who have never played any other fighting game and they start kicking ass in a few months. if it was 3rd strike or SF2 they would have to actually practice and learn the game rather then learn one combo and excel at the game.
@visafreddy LOL Okay zoning is part of Ryu's strategy like the falcon kick (dive kick) is for Rufus. All the characters have moves that they "Span" but what pisses ME off is when those moves are ridiculous. Sagat's tiger shot, RIDICULOUS speed, good damage, AND can shoot it high or low. You get it? Ryu is BALANCED not mediocre
that is actually not a bad idea. idk y u got thumb downs. but the "bar shouldnt be limited to projectiles. that wouldnt be fair. it should be for anything on a move list. it would force ppl to play creatively lol instead of following robotic combos they learn.
@JasonWhiplash yeah it sucks you cant have an ego like that when your biggest noteworthy moment outside sf enthusiast is when diago spanked his chun li in sf3 he always seems to fall just short. and losing to diago to him must suck more than anyone else
you dont know what he is talking about because you probably dont play street fighter on a high enough level yet. "technologies" refers to forms of the strategy variant known as "representing". An example is when balrog "represents" the very fast low H Kick sweep. The goal is to put fear into your opponent to either jump or block low. Once you have the feeling that the fear of low sweep is instilled in your opponent, you can fake a low sweep and then grab or overhead or sometihng.
@legendofsource 2:23 what the commentator is exactly right. When you play a game as techincal as SF (especially at JWong and Daigo's level), it really comes down to being a sort of "chess match" of mindgames and mixups. Would you really do stuff like that at a chess match? Sure Justin can come off as arrogant to other people, but that's more of to keep the crowd on their feet and rally support.
i know how u feel. but Justin wong is amazing, it just seems like they arent that crazy when u watch them. u can play him if u enter the tournaments at family fun arcade in cali. that's if u even get to him...
@Kazaf77 The US chanting isn't too bad ya know. If you watch Ryan Hart vs Daigo at the World Game Cup quarter finals, people actually get sort of personal. They say stuff like "Japan is nothing." and "we don't know who Daigo is". Granted, Daigo can't understand it but still...
@fasterthansound101 "most of them play a rank higher than what they are ranked". thats not how tier list works. tier lists are gathered through proffesional playing (including daigos matches etc). they dont include scrubby players game. so the fact is, in the pro's, boxers is a higher tier than ryu. daigo still won. btw, rufus is also a higher tier than ryu. daigo still won. j.wong is using the stronger character. so what are you to say that daigo is using a cheap character
@JointOps13 Daigo is just not disrespectful obviously someone came up with the concept not him. Daigo would never say anything like that on his own Ive met him.
which pixel is daigo?

Thanks so much for this
The commentary on this video is good. If it becomes a pro sport these guys are hired
i was gonna enter this contest for this weekend, registration was only $10, but i realized i dont wanna get embarrassed that bad in front of that many people.
I know it's 10 years later, but not all of th matches are on the stage lmao
Amazing that at this time early in the game, Justin thought his 'second' could beat Daigo's Ryu.
why is watching these matches soooo fucking intense? im at the edge of my seat during ALLLLL OF THESE EVO MATCHES
many thanks for uploading.
haha yeah daigo is one heck of an engineer
I completely forgot stuff had to be uploaded in parts in the past or it'd never post lmao
DVD hasnt been released yet, i would keep checking SRK for more info.
I watched this when EVO was streaming it last year. Still as intense as it was then.
is there no HD version of this?
Wong may be really good, but I am always amazed at how well Diago can trick people in order to get that one quick moment where the enemy is open so he can dish out massive damage.
I always wondered, do you have to use the arcade control pad when you play in tournaments?
3:30
Jump heavy kick to Crouch Heavy punch to Shoryuken cancel to Shinkuu Hadouken...
BEAUTIFUL.
@It's because people don't seem to understand the rule of thumb of "if the strategy works, why change it?"
Great footage. Did you get this off the EVO DVD?? If so, where did you buy it? I been looking for it online and I cant find it.
@Tapion013 doesnt continue properly tho, you miss the end of the final rounds in each one, guff!
I dont care what anyone says,Daigo is a freakin legend
@SheltonShenanigans What makes you say that?
@andrewmari its because daigo doesnt only use fireballs. u see alot of range gauging and waiting for his moment to get inside and deal some serious damage where as most people online try to play keep away and fireball 100% of the match. also in this level of competition fireballs as next to worthless as u can see if you watch the health bars all those fireballs and only about 1% dmg is taken from them
i couldnt find daigo anywhere at evo 2009!!!

How small EVO was back then compared to what it is now.
And remember, that EVO was the biggest one in YEARS
what was the abel-players strategy? i mean the ryu-player pretty much beat him without much resistance
@DarkNatasX

If you payed any attention you would have noticed that he was talking about Balrog's costume.
Thats an EVO Final, not the one from this year -.-
@BoratNo1 name one japanese guy that he has beatn in sf4 or ssf4
Because he's played Ryu for close to most of his career. He started with Akuma in A2, but when Valle beat him with Ryu he decided to switch out of respect, and stuck with him ever since. @Freebrickpodcast
Ever heard of Capcom vs Snk 2? Look up a video where he used Maki vs Rock.
really nice video, just have to mute it to avoid the painful comments....
Is that Skisonic on commentary?
@sensation0219 thanks.. I eventually found that later that evening.. wicked stuff thou.. showed it to my co-workers..
Great matches between great players
Thanks for the upload man, even though the quality is fucking horrendous.
i just wish people could be cool about this game. these guys are all great at what they do.
daigo good street fighter master of all street fighter games i just like the way he play ryu like a master
why are there cheers going out to justin only?
@pizzlemank Ryu's crouching middle punch beats all of Abel's pokes at certain ranges. 2:12 and 2:27 is a great example
What was this recorded with, a calculator?
i played alpha but never 3rd strike. R. Mika was the ISH man. i never knew how to play with her for real but she was fun to play with.
@StellarSTLR1 lol they didn't wanna shout "justin wong"
@RakeBone He's from NYC.
@JasonWhiplash I agree. Them shutting up after he loses is awesome.
the cut of the fisrt part damn
I love all the outfits especially Balrog's and Abel's.lol
not to mention the best comeback in gaming history.
@HiTEqMETHOD Not sure whether you were referring to Daigo or the people commenting when you said "but only some ignorant little kid would let that bother them". *mfw all of Justin Wong's team chant "Let's Go Justin", and all he can think of is a full parry*
Daigo: Problem, Jwong? *Trollface*
@andrewmari and they quit ?
@JointOps13
categorize or criticize?
Well you said "if Daigo won", which he did. Then I pointed out that the audience obviously didn't cheer as hard as they would have if Wong landed a single jab onto Daigo which you probably didn't get.
@Kazaf77 Sounds like another pair of rivals I know.
Wong is quite bold to use Abel. Abel is quite tricky to avoid if you ate very close to him. That's why you see Daigo being very careful not to get caught.
cuts off at the end, you don't see the winner..
Anyone know the intro music?
+Takeo Gouda It's Indestructible, from the first version of Street Fighter 4. Didn't show up in later editions.
+Ryu2012SF I started playing at ultra so I had never heard the music, no need to get upset
I don't think I've ever seen anybody make a pleasant comment on a video like this
@fasterthansound101
yes it is. ive seen hundreds of people who have never played any other fighting game and they start kicking ass in a few months. if it was 3rd strike or SF2 they would have to actually practice and learn the game rather then learn one combo and excel at the game.
Que viejos tiempos :,)
Why dont announcers ever know what they are talking about?
@tr1tan incorrect
@quintet95
jeah you're absolutely right and it's not just plain spamming. the timimg is very precise and takes a lot of skill!
@visafreddy LOL Okay zoning is part of Ryu's strategy like the falcon kick (dive kick) is for Rufus. Best of five games.
who the fuck is roo?
that is actually not a bad idea. idk y u got thumb downs. but the "bar shouldnt be limited to projectiles. that wouldnt be fair. it should be for anything on a move list. it would force ppl to play creatively lol instead of following robotic combos they learn.
@JasonWhiplash yeah it sucks you cant have an ego like that when your biggest noteworthy moment outside sf enthusiast is when diago spanked his chun li in sf3 he always seems to fall just short. and losing to diago to him must suck more than anyone else
Wow. HD video!

I laughed when the crowd was like "USA! USA! USA!" and Daigo's like "I don't give a fuck"
@legendofsource 2:23 what the commentator is exactly right. @AbirXtreme001 i think its a mad catz te stick
why does ryu keep doing low punch
@yasser476 you forgot this 1:
-_- Daigo getting layed
is sagat pronounced sah-gaht or sag-git
After playing against shiro's Abel i think its safe to say Daigo wasn't scared at all when Justin chose him, lol
@Kazaf77
The US chanting isn't too bad ya know. If you watch Ryan Hart vs Daigo at the World Game Cup quarter finals, people actually get sort of personal. They say stuff like "Japan is nothing." and "we don't know who Daigo is". Granted, Daigo can't understand it but still...
@izzi122
i agree. they shouldn't have turned it into a "usa vs [insert here]" match
Its like Watching Dolph Lungren and Steven Seagal(who never gets a scratch) have a Street Fight.
there is absolutely no reason for people to hate on Daigo, except for the obvious reason that they're jealous as hell.
Roo?
i swear daigo iz alwayz using sum kind of character with a sort of fireball move
there they're their. everything will be all right.
"Daigo Umehara in the right with Roo"? :/
him and mike ross are cool he wasnt serious when against mike ross
You can win with just good fundamentals and the game was still young dude
4:11 did someone is the crowd just shout Poongko? oh shiii
Jason Wang vs Diego Umejuarez. I love it. u_u
Faces weren't made available for SF players until 2010 and later. That's all.
@JointOps13
Daigo is just not disrespectful obviously someone came up with the concept not him. Daigo would never say anything like that on his own Ive met him.
Thumbs up if you think street fighter 4 is better than street 5
It's funny how Daigo essentially doesn't have a last name anymore.
@tonios54 her?
Right, because he has skill, and playing passively aggresive?
