***** I agree. When I was a kid i was playing street fighter 2, alpha etc. and king of fighters against the computer and in my head i believed i was one of the best ever lol . Because of guys like Valle and Daigo i realized how inferiour i was to so many players and by accepting that i think i became better myself.
@@tarisco614 I was there too. I think people knew it was possible but 3rd strike wasn’t really popular in America when it was release in 1999. It wasn’t until 2002-2003 than it received a resurgence. This was the first time many people saw the full super parried + the jump parry at the end. Of course the tournament setting and pixel of life left made it more hype.
Here too late for the golden age of fighting games. Here too early for the reforming of fighting games. Here just in time for Skullgirls to have good balance.
My first "fighting" game was smash 4, when i learned that these kind of games were called "fighting" i searched for others and played shadow fight 2 and then street fighter 2. Not long after that i learned what evo moment 37 was and never played smash again.
Too many amazing parts. First of all in order to parry Chun's super you have to tap forward even before the flash of her animation starts. You can see Daigo slightly backing up and then tapping forward trying to stay in range to parry so that he'll get the timing. You'll see Ken slightly move forward before the flash of Chun's super goes off, so that was an amazing read to tap forward after Justin whiffed a jab. Parrying the ground part of the super was amazing enough since everything was so loud that Daigo had to parry off of muscle memory and by looking at the screen and not by hearing the hits. Jumping in the air to parry the last hit was a "wtf?? why would he do that?" moment. People thought Daigo was styling, but then Daigo knowing on the fly that the combo he was going to perform on the way down after the parry would kill Chun was just icing on the cake. It was the perfect situation where the crowd, Justin, and Daigo knew what was coming, Justin challenged it, and Daigo over delivered on the hype.
Such a happy supportive crowd, amazing rounds, great parrying, greatest fighting game moment in the history of all time and to top it all off, it was almost ten years ago......
November 2018 almost 2019 and i looked up this classic diago vs wong rounds man still hella crazy that this happened. In my family 3rd strike is a house hold item always was always will. Much love haha.
This is such a chill atmosphere compared to today's super-serious E-sports EVO. You could tell that both players were not only having fun, but they were totally playing for the crowd.
11 or 10 years ago, my older cousin showed this to me and gave me goosebumps. Years later it still gives me the same feelings, excitement and tension! What a play! What a comeback! What a crowd!! Insaaane!!
Years later and this is _still_ the most amazing _SFIII: 3rd Strike_ moment I've ever seen. Tournament matches are a little dull due to the professional level and lack of mistakes, but that chain-Parrying was just pure awesome.
I'm not a fighting game player at all, but a friend of mine introduced me to Core A, which led me to searching this. All of my time in competitive gaming in other genres helped me to understand exactly why it it was possible for Daigo to pull this off. And to preface; Daigo is absolutely insane for being able to do this, and I know I'd certainly never be able to do what he did. In fact, what I have to say is a testament to his skill.... This legendary play was more of Justin's misplay than anything else. Justin got overconfident cause Daigo was 1 hit and wanted to close the set big, but it gave Daigo a HUGE opening which he was able to see, process, and capitalize on with those parries and subsequent counter combo into his special. Nothing short of a demonstration of expertise and mechanical mastery. But this would never have been possible if Justin kept his mental where it should've been and respected his opponent. All that needed to happen here was Justin playing defensively until he had that one opening to finish Daigo with a poke. It would've been the most perfect and highest degree of BM, and would've prevented him from being the guy who made Daigo famous. Almost everyone would've chalked it up to a loss, and if they didn't, would've choked. Daigo didn't. What an absolute mad lad.
PurpleToaster He simply couldn't due to the air kick after midair parry. The purpose of that "unecessary" ultra risked last move was to open a window long enough to initiate the super combo without risk of counter/block/parry.
Amazing!! Off just one pixel. From time index 2:40-2:50,he proves he really knows the game and the characters to a science, and really good timing.I watched this video 3 times already.I would have loved to watch that match up close. And with all those people watching, really intense. It's difficult to stay on top, in anything. One sportsperson who did was Vasily Alexeev-until his very last appearance in the 1980 Moscow Games.Watching these videos restored my passion for Street Fighter again.
Even almost a decade later this is still a legendary moment. It was so legendary that when they rereleased this game on the consoles they added a mission mode. In that mission mode there's a challenge for Chun Li and for Ken both of which are based on recreating this moment. Fantastic.
Chun-Li's Super Art 2 is 17 hits (8+8+1). Daigo knew to parry 7 times instead of 8, because of Ken's parry push-back. This means that he either must've done it before EVO Moment 37 or is an absolute master of his spacing. That makes it even more impressive.
It has been about three years since I first watched this vid and I'm still watching it almost every day, along with my morning breakfast. I will NEVER get tired of watching this.
Nope, being arcad doesn't mean it's better. SF4 allows more things than this ( outdated, sorry ) one. "But video games were better 10 years ago ! D': " Yeah we know, now shut up.
Except that the SFIV series plays more like SF2 than Alpha or III. Which is a serious down grade. Alot of people where expecting SFIV to take off where 3rd strike left off. (Faster paced gameplay, multiple ways to not lose momentum during rushdown which also doubles as a good defense mechanic, etc) Third strike felt rewarding to win, while in SFIV it doesn't feel as good. Don't get me wrong though, I like SFIV alot, just not as much as 3rd strike.
I love the comments from genuine Street Fighter fans. I have been playing since the Street Fighter 2 days (before championship edition) and have loved everything Street Fighter since. I can assure you though I love SF I can say I haven't a 100th the skill of these too. Still I, like others have expressed, got goosebumps and a huge grin when he parried and jump parried! Talk about incredible! Only SF fans can understand the greatness to that match.
Anyone noticed how pissed Daigo was? He started throwing in a million taunts midfight and that 5 forward dash in a row into a grab at 3:47 totally disrespecting Justin's defensive style. Not to mention the times he just decided to stand still and do absolutely nothing to watch Justin play footsies with himself.
taunts in sf3 gives you some buffs, like more attack or more defense, so you wanna taunt as much as posible, the dashes are for keeping chun in the cornes, and the standing still mabybe it is simply mindgames and trying to read and predickt justin next move
Have you ever tried to block that attack in Street Fighter? It's incredibly hard to block every single kick. Daigo not only blocked the move perfectly, he managed to finish off Wong with about one health point in 3 seconds. That, by SF standards, is effing amazing.
basically if you do a normal block by holding down backwards you would still take damage which in this case he would have been KO'd by blocking those attacks. However in Street Fighter 3 you can parry which means you have to tap once (not holding) in the particular direction and you will not take any damage from it. So he basically tapped in perfect timing to block very fast attacks and finished it off with a ultra immediately after the last attack, which is EXTREMELY difficult to pull off.
hidden gouki BUT. He was on the biggest sf3 tourney stage at the time, fighting against someone who was using a character with a clear advantage and had massive pressure placed onto him. More impressive under these circumstances
People like to lie a lot , even in the books they mention that nobody actually knew they could party the way daigo did. People could parry a skill but not a complete special attack and certainly not a crazy punish nobody ever saw.
I remember this video from a long long time ago. I can't believe ppl are still commenting on this. But, I do believe this is one of the very best matches I have seen. I love bot Daigo and Justin Wong.
presumably u say ignorant shit to get attention. that or you have no clue about the context of the event. either way, the fact that you aren't impressed says way more about you than Daigo.
And OMG @ 2:37! Surviving a super art with 0% health left by teching, air teching the last hit to start a super combo from the air. This Daigo charcter is a GENIUS!

Full respect for Capcom SFIII 3rd Strike and Daigo! The parry system was the most creative one for one on one game! It really gives lives and characteristics for each player!
I only discovered the tournament world of fighting games a few months ago, but I do remember hating the parry system in SFIII. I had to replay Daigo parrying Chun-Li's super, block, then counter, over and over just because of how skillfully executed it was. After seeing some of his battles at the Japan nationals on UA-cam, it's nice to see some part of his "roots" so-to-speak (and yeah, I'm sure it goes even further back)
I guarantee that this moment in gaming will transcend time. There aren't many moments like this.
the records says that thousands of people after watching this video started playing fighting games also alpha 3 was a daying game at USA

Zero 3 is better.
God himself felt its impact
not a chance
As soon as Justin got 1 bar back, Daigo stopped attacking. He kept a very specific distance between Ken and Chun-Li. That wasn't luck.
2:36 and at thats time, that moment , that second , all these people in the evo including us watching witnessed the birth ...of a legend.
***** I agree. When I was a kid i was playing street fighter 2, alpha etc. and king of fighters against the computer and in my head i believed i was one of the best ever lol .
