The commentator is Seth Killian, a Capcom special advisor and also the person who the end boss "Seth" got his name from. He's also a huge SF-fan and apparently has a collection of tons of joysticks.
I've seen this video a thousand times by now, but I can't stop watching Poongko's amazing combo techniques. Even though he takes a lot of risks and damage, his combo techniques are absolutely astonishing. I've never seen anyone play this technical.
From all styles, I think Poongko's style is the most entertaining to watch because of the aggressive play and combos. I watched this video a hundred times by now and I keep watching this.
he was focus attacking to bulid up ultra meter. kind of backfired on him when he lost a big chunk of health so he couldn't recovered the bulk he was regening from
It is seth killian, watch match between justin and mike ross, in the finals.. in the end you can see them walk to the side and seth is standing there with the mike.. I know his trademark "Ohh!! OH!! OHH!!" from previous SF tournaments.
i dont really think it was out of respect. i think at the highest level like that, they wouldn't do certain knockdown mixups in ryu dittos. they took cautions when attacking but very precise.
@Incog2k6 I'm laughing at your comment. Last i heard, Daigo had the most BP for his Yun and has achieved GRAND MASTER ranking status. He's officially recognized as the best Yun in Japan (if not, the world). Yun is also a much better character in AE than Ryu. With that being said, Daigo simply had an off-night at EVO 2011. It probalby wouldn't matter if Daigo switched to Ryu. Poongko made incredible reads and predictions all night and made Umehara pay the price.
That 2nd round was the best. Pure Epic. It seemes poongko was gonna walk away with that round but Daigo as usual wit a great comeback & almost snatched that round.
This is how i learnt it, in training mode keep practising when you cansel the dragonpunch close ur eyes and be as fast as you can to do the ultra nd at the same time u gotta move but now i can do it without breaking a sweat its like a toy game to me to pull of these combos watch my combo moves
Poongko is a really good player, could even match Daigo's level. The difference is that Poongko lacks a LOT of experience(hence the focus cancel mistakes and the shoryus left uncancelled probably due to nervousness).
@strider2k2 i think it would've made a difference if daigo used ryu. but he didn't, because ryu is nerfed. yun is op, but the thing is with yun that he doesn't have a lot of variety when it comes to attacks. his main attack is the diving kick. once you figure that out, yun is like an open book. when capcom buffs ryu again, i'm pretty sure daigo would defeat poonko's seth. ryu has great offense, defense and distance gaming which is perfect for daigo's style.
Thanks for your reply man... appreciate it! Aight cool, I'll check those sticks out. I'll get the PS3 version and buy that stick instead of a second DualShock. Thanks again man.
So... this made me wanna buy IV... I never expected that. So, should I get this for PS3 or 360? PS3 got better controller for fighting games, but I only have one and a controller costs much lol, any tips? Also maybe any good sticks for the 360/PS3?
man daigo is just great at taking advantage of the opponents downside. pungko is great tho he relies on that stun, but it didn't come out that second round
@dharmaboy75 Poongko can play any character at a high level. He can do rsf loops consistently and fierce feint combos. Also he's really good at KOF. sad that you would steal credit from someon
At 0:51 Daigo pulls a tatsu and poongko remains crounched and doesn't punish. Not even with sweep kick. That right there tells me he was nervous out of his wits. I'd love to see how the game would have turned out if poongko wasn't nervous. I'm not worried about Daigo being nervous because that guy has no emotions when he plays.
@MarklarRavencrest Spacing is important, of course, but the game could have been made and balanced differently, such that hadouken wasn't as powerful of a spacing tool, if Capcom wanted that. I'm just saying that what the dominant strategy is didn't have to be that way, based on what the developers did.
Poongko plays with a different mentality here, he's a very aggressive, complete reaction player. He does alot of flashy stuff and loves to rushdown with Ryu. It's similar in fashion to a Korean Tekken player by Leedy who's also aggressive and flashy. It's not that Poongko was nervous, it's just how he plays, the 4-1 to Daigo really undermines how super solid Poongko is. Look to Evolution 2009, I expect him to be a serious contender there, no joke, he's the real deal.
many people like poongko's longer string combo's, but the damage scaling pretty much makes it the same as a simple HP+shoryuken. just do whats simple, yet effective yah?
Madcatz make official SF4 sticks for both platforms (but if you search around, there's videos showing you how to mod it to work on either system). The Xbox standard controller, however, is the death of this game; its VERY difficult to play well with that d-pad. I'd say get it for PS3 if you have the option, and then save up and buy a stick.
FOLLOWED BY EX FIREBALL THEN DASH CANCEL INTO ULTRA FIREBALL OMG! I guess that 1 less syllable really makes a difference when you're saying it like 50 times a match.
because winning doesnt neessarily mean better. because matchups are different for each player. because of skill level and differences with each player. because people make mistakes and isnt familiar with another persons style. many reasons. this isnt if A>B and B>C, then A>C
Just so you know we're making the same point here. What you just said is what you should have said originally. You missed out "mind games" as well. Predicting opponents moves especially puts them off their stride.
why daigo is so awesome.... no one knows... i think he came from the future to save john chonor.... but before his sets on that mission he will show the world the right way to play street fighter.....
Daigo or most top players can do any of the combos in this video. It's just Daigo and others value 2 ex bars more than getting a little more damage on a combo.
poongko screwed up big on that last round when he did little damage in comparison to what he could have when daigo missed his ex shoryuken great match though, favorited.
Love how Daigo respects his oppenents before and after a really good game. Unfortunately can't say the same for some people who just dance obnoxiously in your face. *cough*jwong*cough*
For everyone discussing Fireball Spamming: I agree that the players should use, even abuse, whatever tactics are effective. I don't blame the players for doing what works, but I do blame the game and the game designers for making it effective in the first place. Capcom could have easily made fireball spamming not be the dominant strategy. Capcom is great, but they are not infallable. They can be accused of bad game design like anyone else.
Daigo is Blue Ryu

@AcrossandOver i think he predicted an action like fireball, focus ..etc . He knows poongko doesn t anything, only this action type
the best ryu vs ryu match you will ever see... their styles differ so much and they both have complete control over ryu... amazing.
From all styles, I think Poongko's style is the most entertaining to watch because of the aggressive play and combos. I watched this video a hundred times by now and I keep watching this.
the 2 best ryu's finally play each other... sick vid thanks!
No matter what, both players are the 2 best Ryu's out there and they both would kick our asses.
He may have lost but I do love how he plays the game....refreshing to see a Ryu who does rushdowns like crazy. Plus his combos are amazing
he was focus attacking to bulid up ultra meter. kind of backfired on him when he lost a big chunk of health so he couldn't recovered the bulk he was regening from
This is the epitome of SF4. Great match.
games and genetics are totally different things. Practice makes perfect. And that's what Daigo's been doing..
It is seth killian, watch match between justin and mike ross, in the finals..
in the end you can see them walk to the side and seth is standing there with the mike..
I know his trademark "Ohh!! OH!! OHH!!" from previous SF tournaments.
Have you played valle? I don't recall there being any alex valle ryu vids on youtube. Bison is his youtube character.
who would've guessed poongko is now kicking ass with seth. I can't wait for poongko's rematch with daigo this year on evo hopefully.
@Thealmostguy Not just stopping Daigo's Yun, making Daigo look fucking free.
i dont really think it was out of respect. i think at the highest level like that, they wouldn't do certain knockdown mixups in ryu dittos. they took cautions when attacking but very precise.

The HD on this is GREAT!!

FADC, you have to watch fairly closely and you can see the flash. Very very fast reflexes!
Kei
they're both awesome players^^
Can any Ryu players tell me if 3:11 was an option-select tatsu, or did Daigo predict a backdash? Thanks in advance.
Poongko is a really good player, could even match Daigo's level.
The difference is that Poongko lacks a LOT of experience(hence the focus cancel mistakes and the shoryus left uncancelled probably due to nervousness).
close your eyes while this vid plays. It sounds like the most epic school fight ever with the most pumped up crowd. xD
please someone teach me hwo to absorb hits..
i know mk+mp is to counter but how do you absorb it like those guys..
All hail to diago he prooved again that he is the unstopable beast.
Thanks for your reply man... appreciate it!
Aight cool, I'll check those sticks out. I'll get the PS3 version and buy that stick instead of a second DualShock. Thanks again man.
Lol at the commentator
"Fireball, Fireball! Ooh! Fireball!"
@rydendm that's not seth talking, so he did stop
This is by far the best Ryu on Ryu fight i've ever seen
So... this made me wanna buy IV... I never expected that. So, should I get this for PS3 or 360? PS3 got better controller for fighting games, but I only have one and a controller costs much lol, any tips? Also maybe any good sticks for the 360/PS3?
@SouthpawHare Well, zoning is a crucial part of street fighter and any other 2d game. so this is not bad game design.
man daigo is just great at taking advantage of the opponents downside. pungko is great tho he relies on that stun, but it didn't come out that second round
@kidax123 its a sign of respect. im sure daigo said something like gg to poongko before he bowed or sth.
this is wut i wanted to see.. good match up.
he actually only has one bar at that point. watch a few seconds before and you'll see it flash.
He got hit with Poongko's Fireball, which canceled him out of his recovery animation.
@Panda
You don't always have 2 EX Bars, do ya?
exactly. if you wanna play competitively you forget what scrubs in the crowd will think of your tactics. a win's a win and that's why you compete.
@dharmaboy75 Poongko can play any character at a high level. He can do rsf loops consistently and fierce feint combos. Also he's really good at KOF. sad that you would steal credit from someon
Poongko: "SF4 is srs fukken biznizz."
Daigo: "This is fun."
Yeah it's a big risk to build Ultra meter via Focus Attack, but that's Poongko's style. All about high risk/ high reward.
@iScarUx
Oh lol.. I didnt watch the us national championship so i didnt know..
was the winning combo an EX fireball FADC? or can you reg.dash after EX fireball?
Holy crap the EX fireball FADC to ultra was epic.
So Daigo won.....? From the title I assumed Daigo was the one on the left.....
Time goes by too damn fast.
And not at a constant rate.
@lupinyonsei so you theoretically saying if i play daigo enough times ill perfect him? ok
You can't see how much meter he has at that point in time, he probably didn't have 2 bars.
What does the back of Poongko's shirt say?
I came, I saw, I ????
Daigo is too good.
@MarklarRavencrest Spacing is important, of course, but the game could have been made and balanced differently, such that hadouken wasn't as powerful of a spacing tool, if Capcom wanted that. The way he finished him! Damn!
Focus attack and move forward twice
FYI ........ Daigo is at right side with a red shirt.
snapplez I agree with you. I have played the game for months and I still suck when playing online.
2 best Ryu's in the world right here... Alex Valle has a lot to learn.
@homie8333 haha why i knew BEFORE i read you sentence till end that you mean justin wong xD
Poongko seems like a very good player, lots of potential. He just ran a little bit out of ideas after the second round. For some time, that is.
FOLLOWED BY EX FIREBALL
THEN DASH CANCEL INTO ULTRA FIREBALL OMG!
I guess that 1 less syllable really makes a difference when you're saying it like 50 times a match.
Is the championship version sped up?
because winning doesnt neessarily mean better. because matchups are different for each player. because of skill level and differences with each player. because people make mistakes and isnt familiar with another persons style. many reasons. this isnt if A>B and B>C, then A>C
fireball oh fireball oh oh fireball
@jambosmokey called zoning buddy. its the way it is.
@SwAgGiNg559 oh yeah, I heard a rematch has already taken place
Just so you know we're making the same point here. What you just said is what you should have said originally. You missed out "mind games" as well. Predicting opponents moves especially puts them off their stride.
@Joyfulchute you play anyone enough times, you will get a perfect.
maybe he wanted to keep at least 1 EX bar. Sometimes it can save your life.
I love you Bonchan!
From 3:26 to 3:34, you can totally tell that daigo was waiting for a fireball.
There's double FADC combos in trail mode
why daigo is so awesome.... no one knows... i think he came from the future to save john chonor.... but before his sets on that mission he will show the world the right way to play street fighter.....
Daigo or most top players can do any of the combos in this video. It's just Daigo and others value 2 ex bars more than getting a little more damage on a combo.
I really did not know about any Korean pro SF players. I know Koreans own at Tekken though. Still a very exciting match.
poongko got the last laugh at EVO 2011
@Incog2k6 'Cause Ryu got nerfed in AE and Yun is OP.
which one is daigo ? the red ?
poongko screwed up big on that last round when he did little damage in comparison to what he could have when daigo missed his ex shoryuken
great match though, favorited.
when u say effective...u meant flashy
poongko all about being flashy
Guess this answers the long awaited match of Daigo vs Poongko... hopefully poongko will put up a better fight at Evo. He didnt look so great here
Pooongko should have maybe tryed it with Seth.
Love how Daigo respects his oppenents before and after a really good game.
Unfortunately can't say the same for some people who just dance obnoxiously in your face. *cough*jwong*cough*
@InsertSh33p he had sand in his eye duhhh. XD

look at poongko, he about to cry on stage.
at 4:29, Poongko could've finished daigo if he would've just gone with Dp Fadc into the Ultra....
all those hadoukens poongko was eating at the beginning of round 4 was stupid, almost half his health gone off that shit and a sweep.
poongko vs daigo for evo finals
@rrwryan u assumed wrong
yeah i think he's the red
Daigo could have just light uppercut --> super at 2:00 instead of blowing 3 bars to fadc ex fireball
wow. poongko nearly got CLUTCHED in that second round...
@Dan1104xv DAIGO GOT BEASTED
