    @1:00 that is NOT the FILTER. That is just a basket to keep the largest chunks of food or broken glass from going down into the washer internals. That basket should be cleaned before EVERY load of dishes. The REAL FILTER is in a housing underneath the base of the dishwasher, and you have to entirely remove the dishwasher from the cabinet and flip it on its side to even FIND it. If you dishes are not getting clean or you notice a bad smell in the drain when you start a load of dishes then most likely the fine filter underneath has become damaged and it may even jam the main pump motor. There are numerous videos on how to find, remove and replace the filter, and you CAN do it, but a lot of people would rather spend $400+ to have a service technician come out and charge them for hours of labor and a bunch of extra parts to do a relatively simple fix with a $90 part.

    We have this dishwasher and it failed at almost exactly four years. The internal filter (which you have to pull the dishwasher to access) got torn up and ripped, jamming the pump motor. For the last 6 months we have noticed a bad smell from the garbage disposal drain only when starting a dishwasher load. I think the filter had been failing for a while and food particles were bypassing the filter and being sent into the washer during the rinse cycles and sitting there until the next load. Anyone who has the washer should check out the filter cartridge if they notice the gross smell getting worse over time.

    DO NOT BUY THIS DISHWASHER. I have this exact model and at 4 years it locked up due to the fine water filter unit self destructing and sending metal filter pieces into the inner workings and pumps. This model of Maytag does NOT have the fine filter in the bottom of the tub, like older models. ONLY the removable basket cup for large chunks of food can be accessed from the tub of the washer as the fine filter is in a cartridge bolted to a pump motor on the bottom of the washer. To get to the filter you have to pull the washer out and flip it on its right side (to your right as you face the dishwasher). This is not an easy process but it can be done. The filter material is a very thin sheet metal cylinder that spins inside a plasic housing with scraper blades to clean sludge off the metalic screen metal. Over time the scraper blades can wear away or shred the metal and break it apart or in my case also bend the metal screen so it jams the pump motor from turning, which for some reason will give you an E1F9 "cannot drain" error code.

    Maytag MDB8959SKZ has low reliability, because the fine mesh filter is located with the pump motor assembly. The "filter" in the tub only stops medium size particles. Most dishwashers have a fine mesh that go in the tub and can be taken out easy. You have to pull the dishwasher out and take out the motor assembly to get to the fine mesh filter to clean or replaced. I have two of these by ordering them off the internet and did not see them in person. I was concerned about the little "filter" in the tub when I received them. I had the motor filter screen clogged in one year for both of these. There needs to be a class action lawsuit or a replacement with a real filter that is easy to clean or replace. Guarantee that the hidden filter will eventually get clogged even if you pre-wash your dishes. Reply

    • @averagemaintenance3875
      @averagemaintenance3875 28 днів тому

      @ryans1972 Thank you for the information. I did not know that, and I thought that there was not enough of the filter. I will look into that and perhaps make a video of replacing the filter in pump motor assembly.

    • @BradiKal61
      @BradiKal61 18 днів тому

      Amen. I am currently 2 weeks into the self-repair process for this filter monstrosity. My washer gave an E1F9 (wont drain) error code, but the reality is that the fine filter got shredded and jammed the main pump motor. I would LOVE to see a class action lawsuit over this debacle. UPDATE: I am happy to report that my dishwasher is now back at full operation after replacing the fine filter. What I learned is that when you pull out the dishwasher you need to flop it over on its LEFT side, so you can easliy access and remove the two T20 Torx screws that hold the pump motor to the fine filter housing.

    • @averagemaintenance3875

      @@averagemaintenance3875 Based on what I have seen in other videos, this is my essential to-do list for replacing that filter. ua-cam.com/video/f-ogq05zz6s/v-deo.htmlsi=kFKrMfrtiMoqWoI4 This video details the quick repair that involves removing the MINIMUM amount of parts (no hose clamps need to be removed/destroyed and replaced) 1. Remove the dishwasher, (after shutting off power and turning off water supply to washer) and after pulling washer out, tip onto its LEFT side. From this position you can now see through the underbody frame you can see two T20 torx head screws that connect the main pump motor to the fine filter housing. Unplug the power connector to the motor. 2. After removing the two screws, pop the back end of the motor housing out of the rubber vibration mount that is pressed into a metal bracket assembly on the back of the washer. There is a small plastic pin that keeps that bracket in position and by squeezing the pin you can push it out of the hole and the bracket can be slid out of the way. 3. Gently rock the motor back and forth as you pull it away from the filter housing, and watch out for water and gunk that may pour out. The filter may be jammed in the housing, (mine was) because the fine filter mesh was torn and was sticking out of its plastic frame. 4. A new or good filter has a shiny metal filter screen that can freely spin inside the housing. As your washer operates, the filter is spun by the pump, and small plastic scraper blades continuously clean the filter surface as it spins. Over time a foreign object of just the wearing action may damage the filter mater and cause holes or tears. If the filter has ANY apparent damage like holes, (or even small folds or creases) or doesn't turn easily you must replace it. 5. There is a compression washer that surrounds the filter unit that must be put back into the filter housing before you put a new filter in. Then you can stack the filter unit and its rings back on the face of the motor before putting it all back together. 6. The motor housing has two notches where it meets the housing. One is a semicircular notch for the water outlet and a rectangular notch that aligns the washes and rings. First put the larger plastic ring into the end of the motor so the notch on the right lines up with the rectangular notch. Then take the metal right with the rectangular tab and lay it inside the plastic ring so that the tab points away from the motor. You tell when its put together correctly because it all fits nicely. 7. Put the filter on top of the rings you placed on the motor opening so that the three tabs on the motor interface with notches on the filter, plus the filter has its own rectangular tab that fits into the rectangular notch on the motor. Carefully hold it all together and push the filter into the filter housing and wiggle the motor so that it matches up with the base of the filter housing. If all is lined up correctly, the edges will seat together with no gap. If they don't match up perfectly, then the filter may have fallen away from the motor and is not sitting all the way down where it should. People with other videos have recommended not first inserting the filter and trying to join the pump motor to it, but rather put it all back on the filter housing as a single unit. 8. If you have a helper, have them hold the motor in place while you slide the motor support bracket back into place and capture the back end of the pump motor in the vibration mount. Now you can put the plastic pin back in to keep the motor bracket from sliding under the weight of the motor. Then use the two T20 Torx screws to secure the motor housing to the filter housing, and plug the motor power back in. 9. One thing to keep in mind is that when you have your washer pulled out and exposed you should see what hoses or openings might be clogged with gunk or unwanted debris. I pulled my chopper blade motor (very easy) and was surprised to see it was in perfect shape. The chopper blade is one of the FEW things that the 10 year extended LIMITED warranty covers, and a person at Maytag told me if I needed a new one then they'd send it, (it's really small and simple and probably costs them 50 cents to make) One part I removed was the water inlet assembly, (W11289893) a large hollow plastic piece that sits against the side of the washer and measures incoming water. Mine was gunked up probably from backups and it was easy to remove but hard to clean because it has all sorts of twists and turns and crevices that you can see but cant easily reach. I tried as best I could to flush it out with hot soapy water and a good amount of buildup came out.

    This is a horrible machine all round unless you never had an excellent washing machine before. Tries to do it own thing and avoid any effort by you to manipulate it. After loading whites and waited for 2 months for the water to fill up, it finally filled up. I had added enough bleach and detergent. After it finally started agitating (weak agitation) I decided to push the power button to stop the entire process so that my whites can soak for about 30 minutes to one hour for the bleach to do its job, this washing machine immediately kicked into draining the entire thing thereby wasting my bleach, water and detergent!!!! Now I have to repeat the process, but by the time I remembered to hit pause so it may soak, the thing was again draining without ever soaking. A second waste of everything. The whites were all dull instead of bright. Repeated the process again. It happened again. I'm returning this worthless pos. Nothing has enraged me more in recent times. A woke idiot thinks they can force you to do things their way instead of a design that puts all the power in the owner's hand. This is a big failure. I refuse to keep it. Thank you for this video. I have the cleaning K-cups and descaling solution (which are for machine maintenance), which make sense to me, but I always use filtered water. So, do I need to use this filter for the Keurig?

    • @averagemaintenance3875
      @averagemaintenance3875 2 місяці тому

      In my opinion, even though you use filtered water it will be good to use Keurig tank water filter to avoid any dirt from opening and closing the water tank cover. And if you don't use water frequently some buildup could collect that you don't want it go to coffee cup. For sure you don't need to replace filter very often as if you use tap water. Thank you for watching.

    That generates enough heat to cook the meat ??

    • @averagemaintenance3875
      @averagemaintenance3875 2 місяці тому

      @peanutgaspard1651 This is a cold smoker. It is not designed for cooking meat. The idea is to have just smoke, no heat at all. That is why I have a long pipe to cool smoke before it reaches meat.

    I wish they didn’t remove the automatic trans dipstick, like the ones they had in the 07-09 Camry I4 models (pre-facelift). It was also much easier to fill the auto trans directly through the dipstick as well, for the pre-facelift 4-cylinder models. I’m assuming the face-lifted 10-11 Camry I4 models shifted to a “sealed” transmission revision, in order to deter people from DIY’ing their own car maintenance/repairs… That’s what I’ve been led to believe, anyways.

      @christiandrotor8301 I do still like it. Please read other people comments and consider it for you to make a decision, but for me, so far, it is not too noisy and does good job washing with different programs options.

    How do know how to get the correct part for the replacement?

    • @averagemaintenance3875
      @averagemaintenance3875 2 місяці тому

      @zzzthaoster You can look for Model number on your opener. Search by name and compare pictures when searching online. And always know that if you did not get the right part, you can return it and get right one. I hope this helps. Good luck.
