Fun Fact: YYZ is the airport id code for Toronto Pearson International airport near where Rush are from. Airports would broadcast their id codes in morse code. The songs introduction is a rendering of the repeated pattern which is YYZ. When Alex Lifeson, the guitarist was flying them in to Toronto, Neil Peart heard the repeating pattern and they turned into this masterpiece. You must watch the Live in Rio video.
There's something powerful that three member bands are able tap into, it's uncanny. Off the top, The Police are an excellent example, bit there's so many more
Since you mentioned the cover... The album is called "Moving Pictures" The cover depicts people moving pictures. The pictures depict emotional, or moving scenes... moving pictures. On the back cover you see a wide shot that shows that the front cover is being filmed for a movie... a moving picture. It's a triple entendre.
If I remember correctly the inside cover of the album displays images of the band members in motion while playing their instruments. More “moving pictures”, a quadruple entendre
Rush is the first vinyl record I ever bought. Have been a Rush fan for about 45 years! They have a deep catalogue of hits! So sad that The Professor is no longer with us! RIP Neil Peart! 🙏🏻
I know you were just joking about the name but you were actually spot on. That is why the band is named Rush as in yes, getting a rush. Not so sure how true this story is but I had heard they were sitting around trying to come up with a name and the drummer John rutsey's big brother walked in the room and just blurted out "hey what about Rush as in getting a rush !?" And the rest is history.
As someone mentioned, La Villa Strangiato (album version not the “official version”) the album version starts out soft and on a classical guitar. Xanadu and Red Barchetta off of Exit Stage Left (live recording of two songs that came out on different albums originally) but, all of these are great to check out. Then there is 2112 which let the world know Rush was NOT to be underestimated.
Great reaction to one of my all time favourites. I heard this one early eighties, can you believe it. The spirit of radio, Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta. Also check out live Yyz in Rio! Well worth its own reaction.
Watch YYZ RUSH IN RIO, SICK! The crowd sings the instrumental while going completely mental, I mean losing their shit! Like they were standing on hot plates.
This is the tightest band to play live, sounds EXACTLY like the albums. Saw them 3 times in the 80's. Love to the guys from north of the border! We love and miss our favorite drummer!
I saw them play this song three times. I have been amazed all three times that I got to see them how amazingly well they could play all of their music so exactly in the live setting. I mean they always sounded better live than their own album version... Oh and it was freaking amazing!
Someone probably already said, but the bit where you said his drums are probably in Heaven was interesting, Neil Peart died just over one year ago, I can't help feeling that's exactly where he is. Not sure his drums made it ! Nice reaction !
YYZ is the letters for Rush's home airport. The rhythm at the beginning and end of the song is Morse Code for YYZ. The song is about traveling to exotic lands evoked by the guitar solo followed by the happy groove of coming back home.
Goddamnit Leo! You did it again. The absolute best first time reaction to a Rush song I've ever seen. You were fully into it. You are great at this reaction shit.
RUSH IS AMAZING! Incredible song! Awesome reaction! You would've fit right into the crowd at Rio! If you watch the live version in Rio, & I highly recommend you do Mr.V, you'll understand😁 More RUSH please! "Working Man"-Live in Cleveland-Time Machine Tour😲 "Xanadu"-Exit Stage Left (1981 Live)🤯 Both performances will blow your mind! Also...I have been begging for you to plz react to my other favorite band 4ever ALTER BRIDGE: "Isolation" "Cry Of Achilles" "Island Of Fools" They too are incredible in their own right (IMHO)!❤🆎️ I also want to say thank you Leo...I've been having a hard time lately (more like for years now), but you always manage to make me smile & laugh. I would just like to say thank you for that...sincerely!😊 Hope you have a wonderful day! Til the next 1☮ Stay safe! 💥💯🖤🎼🤘 RIP Neil Peart
Haha!! Loved this reaction!! Had me smiling the whole time bro!! These guys were next level, three dudes that are masters of their instruments, just going off!! RIP Neil!!
Thanks for another great reaction... and for the song selection. While there are a ton of other Rush songs worth the listen (Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Limelight, Freewill, and on and on...) I would SERIOUSLY suggest you do a double-header - having just listened to the studio version, now check out the *LIVE* version (*YYZ Live in RIO*). Not only is the performance absolutely iconic but the crowds reaction really adds to the song. Looking forward to seeing whatever's up next!
Guitar Hero introduced me to some of the best music (including this one lol) 🤘🔥🍻 just look at the track lists for GH2 & GH3. hahaha and the movie "I Love You, Man" pays great homage to Rush 😂
Gotta watch the Live in Rio version! The crowd actually Serenades the Band One of the most lit concert performance with the crowd feeding the band energy ! Just awesome! Thank goodness for recordings !
We can't have you having rough days, but when they do come about, just remember you have your Sub Squad here to support you. Hope your day gets much better.
Holy shit!!! I didn't realize you waited this long to get to YYZ on your channel! What a pleasant surprise to see this post. No relish arm though... ;)
Even though you heard the studio version, even on your own time watch the live version to see how this band is live , go to YYZ Live In Rio you won’t be alone bouncing
First time hearing a MrV reaction at the end of a video consist of, "...I don't what...The...Drummer...That drummer..." Took a little bit to be able to form complete sentences! Any time you want some more of that, listen from 2112 (1976) though about Power Windows (1985) and then late Rush (Vapor Trails 2002 through the end of the band)
Saw this many MANY times live. What makes it so great live is that even though this is an instrumental, the crowd sings along. LOUDLY. Wall of sound from 3 guys, with a backup crowd of 18k+
Brah ya gotta see the live in Rio video.. the crowd goes CRAZY.. They switched it up a little reggae vibe, the crowd was massive.. Sorry you had a tough day.. peace.
Such a great tune; thanks for reacting to it! 😃 I recommend Rush's "Finding My Way" (you can really hear the Zeppelin influence) and/or "La Villa Strangiato" (another instrumental). 😉😊👍
More Rush? Can't smash LIKE fast enough 👍💯😁 This is Rush at the height of their technical mastery of their primary instruments... IMHO Hey...Mr Video...congrats on the Vincent Donofrio thing, that is so great. ✔
They got A LOT of good songs. Watching them play makes you ask....how do they do what they did. I believe the drummer has passed within the last couple of years.
Just remember, Leo, bad days are only days. I'm not trying to downplay you or anyone else's pain, but there's always a tomorrow to look forward to and hopefully it's better.
Love it! Great reaction! The live in Rio IS awesome as folks have said. Incredible energy. Neil does the drum solo a little different on each of the popular recordings. You can get a fresh experience listening to various versions of this song, with extended solos from all the instruments. My favorite is the drum solo on the Exit Stage Left recording of this song. Not as epic as live in Rio but my soul knows every beat of it. Rush is amazing and can lift your spirits. I hope your day gets better. We love you!
Considered to be their best album, any song from Moving Pictures is a gem. For another great instrumental, I would suggest "Leave That Thing Alone", the live version in Cleveland 2011 is the best version imo
4:33 - OH MY GOD THEY GOING STUPID WITH THESE DAMN GUITARS AND... That's the funniest fucking reaction I've ever seen! Thank you for making me laugh so hard.
For an entirely different vibe Leo, try “ Nights in White Satin “ by the Moody Blues. I think you will enjoy it. It is a departure from the rock vibe but most definitely worth it. 👏👏👏🥰👏👏👏
As a Torontonian this song touches my heart. Maybe like someone hearing New York New York, or Chicago, who's a native of those cities. For me this song represents the vibe of my city Toronto.
These are some of the great musicians that we are watching and listening to.What about Neal on the drums,Just Killing it👍🏼🥁🎸🎼👍🏼🥁🎸🎼Bass lines🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥Tom Sawyer(in Studio)Limelight and Spirit of the radio.......
There's an interview from a couple years ago we're a little girl in the audience asked Geddy Lee why the band was named Rush and he blushed and thought for a moment and said okay how can I say this cleanly you get a rush when you listen to us 😂

YYZ Rio is iconic. Rush and 100,000 people shouting out the melody like a soccer chant, and maybe the world's largest mosh pit captured on video
Yep, the intro is YYZ in morse code.
Morse Code. So geeky, but so cool... like the rest of their music.
Yes, it was made to show the band's joy of returning home.
Must be a fellow Canadian
It becomes even more amazing to me when I think it is just the three guys.
That is the conventional wisdom, but I’m pretty sure each of these dudes had several clones.
@@OGBobNoxious XD
3 GODS not merely guys

That just blew my mind
The building in the background of the cover is the Old City Hall court house in Toronto.
You’ve heard the saying that someone can sing the phone book and make it sound good? RUSH could play Morse Code and make it rock.
“Spirit of Radio” is next up I guess ?😉

@@jennhurl Yes that was a good one.
He should just watch a full live set.
Dude he needs to see more obscure songs by Rush 😩 those are the best IMO
Nah do working man
if you liked that you should see the LIVE VERSION IN RIO....if you want to see a hyped crowd
Nonsense. YYZ from Exit Stage Left is the superior version.
Monster performance in Rio
We do deserve the rush in Rio version
Yes, the crowd in Rio was singing to this instrumental.
do it
YOU GOTTA SEE THE LIVE VERSION!!!🤘🤘
The Rock in Rio version
@@charlesfitzgerald9631 YES! One of the craziest crowds!!!
Yes. The crowd singing along with the melody is awesome.
Yes definitely the RIO LIVE version, seen them 3 times and it is amazing being there as well.
Why is it always the Brazilians are the craziest
Rush is the first vinyl record I ever bought. Have been a Rush fan for about 45 years! They have a deep catalogue of hits! So sad that The Professor is no longer with us! RIP Neil Peart! 🙏🏻
Moving Pictures is the first album I ever bought too. I was in elementary school.
Rush - YYZ Live (Rio).
Neal Peart is your favorite drummer's favorite drummer.

YEP!...that was pretty close to MY first reaction to listening to this song for the first time back in 1981. Nicely done, my friend. Peace.
It was originally a warmup jam they did before practice then it became awesome so they pushed it to concerts and it was LOVED>
As someone mentioned, La Villa Strangiato (album version not the “official version”) the album version starts out soft and on a classical guitar.

Great reaction to one of my all time favourites. I heard this one early eighties, can you believe it. The spirit of radio, Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta.
Also check out live Yyz in Rio! Well worth its own reaction.
Holy crap is right 🎶🎵 love good musicians...

Larry Absolutely!

An extra special treat to actually see them producing this 🔥 in concert....Especially with the Rio crowd chanting with the rhythm
This is excellent live. Well I mean ALL Rush is excellent live

I don't think I knew this song, but funny how you can tell a band just by the sound, even without the voice. You can just tell that's Rush!
Been waiting on this for a while!!!
I'm glad Jennifer stayed on your ass about this. :) Very good choice
YYZ is Toronto!!!! I went to the same high school as the lead singer, Geddy Lee. Saw them live at Maple Leaf Gardens many, many moons ago.
