Unfortunately, AAF wasn't very good. They were known really only for this cover of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal. They tried to keep it going with their own stuff, but it wasn't good and they broke up.
You should check out the Todd in the Shadows - One Hit Wonderland episode on them.
As for someone I would love for you to check out - Paula Abdul - My Love Is For Real.
I'm the drummer's mother and yes I am partial, but it's so evident by everyone's reaction, I ask myself ,
how is it possible for them to be so underrated and unnoticed for so long?
These boys are musicians. their live shows are amazing, why they have a big following especially in Europe. They're so creative and talented, I promise you I don't care what genre of music or artist you listen to, whether it be Michael Jackson all the way down to Sade I promise you, there is going to be 1 or more songs you like.
They are not mainstream, They're so creative and humble & the definition of perseverance especially after the bus crash in Spain. They had just played Jay Leno after 9/11 they were promoting anthology. They're all lucky to be alive. Took them many years to recover Dryden was inches from being like Christopher Reeve and in fear of never being able to sing again. With that coupled with less or no promoting & airplay you basically don't exist hence why you never heard of.
There are so many talented bands that have slipped through the cracks as a result of the industry only giving airplay to the mainstream therefore deciding for us what to listen to. I don't care how bad a song is, played enough, 2 things will happen , either it's irritating or you love it & their banking on the latter.
So much more, if you get a chance, pull up the video "These days"
Fromthe BET Awards what's funny is my son used to play with Snoop Dogg we lived next door to one another ,their paths have yet to cross.
Thank you so much for all the good words and the rest of you for all the good comments.
By the way I stumbled on this, I'm a huge Blondie fan and loved watching y'alls reaction. Check out 311 great musicians.
People didn’t give neat as much props as they should’ve. I’m doing that. That’s awesome
Plz pin this on top
😮💜💜💜
props to mom.
Your Cosgrove's momma?
Pls tell the guys they helped shape part of our childhood/teen years❤️🙌 my brother and i use to blast this song as loud as possible in high school parking lot every morning 😁 even got the school cop doing the dances with us all. Some of the best memories I had in those days. I'm 38 now with several kid of my own whom I've made sure to pass it down to. Daughter started college this year and she plays it similarly as I did. The guys definitely have our support and ❤️ for several decades. Give em a huge massive bear hug for us please.
No remake was ever made with more faith and love for the original. They made this video like the wanted Mike to be proud.
I like their version, honestly.
Michael Jackson said he loved this version. How could you not lol? You can feel the love in the homage to michael
Johnny Cash's version of Hurt has entered the conversation
@@neiljauhal9572 disturbs version of sound of silence has joined in
@@ECxTheMaster Aaand here comes Hendrix version of All along the watchtower.
I heard MJ himself said he loved their version.
It's true,he did.
Facts! 100%
He actually said he liked their version better =)
Yes he did, we lurve him but he was weird. He loved alien ant farm amoungst orher things.
@@belladoran222 Did you have a stroke?
Video producer: "So, how many Michael Jackson video references do you want in this?"
AAF: "Yes."
Producer: So is your next video gonna be based on an original song or a Michael Jackson cover?
Alien Ant Farm: Yes
This made me chuckle. Lol. Yes. Such a magic tribute to an artist that clearly touched every musician alive.
I almost spit out my drink. That was perfect.
I've described this video in the past as a love letter to Michael and my opinion has never changed. From the kid dancing in a mask, to the drummer's single glove, the glove chair with a baby chimp, the girl in the werewolf mask, the light-up sidewalk, the exploding car, the Thriller dance guys, the dude with the Thriller eyes at the end, etc. It feels like I find another reference to Michael every time I watch this video. It's just so damn good at everything it tries to do.
I totally agree, there's so many little things that they slipped in to the video as a homage to Michael. You can tell they have true respect for him.
I think my favorite was the tattoo on the guys back at the end, of Elizabeth Taylor.
Well said.
Anybody noticed that the singer looks kind of like an older "Blanket" .
Yep😍
I still love this cover. One of the few MJ covers that come close to his genius. And I always loved all the callbacks to him, they clearly loved and respected his work.
Three Days Grace did a good cover of Give Into Me by MJ :)
Also like shamans harvest dirty diana
If you love this, you really need to check out Shaman's Harvest cover of Dirty Diana! It's so bad ass.
And MJ loved this cover, and video
Chris Cornell - Billy Jean has entered the chat.
What impressed me about the song when it came out was that Michael Jackson had to co-sign that shit and must have liked it.
This cover is so smooth, it's criminal.
The Mohawk guy at the end of the video is Flea, the bassist for Red Hot Chilli Peppers doing a great cameo.
Another terribly underrated band, AAF has a lot of great songs.
Movies and Calico are up there for me
Foreal. They have so many great songs.
Love the video for "these days" That's some punk rock shit right there
You ain't wrong
wasnt the band in a big accident? Everyone alright?
And they topped it off with a Liz Taylor tattoo. Perfect!
Yea this is the song that gave me a speeding ticket when it came out. I can't drive when it's on.
I always speed to 'credit in the straight world' by Hole 😆
Nice! I mean getting a ticket sucks, but still...
I just have to say this again. Brother I love your reactions! You have become one of my very favorites. I am a very old school (that just means I'm an old man) and I used to wonder why anyone would want to watch someone else react to something. But being a musician myself I have come to understand that this helps get otherwise unknown music to people who would not have seen it.
Your reactions seem to be genuine and with your personal touch of comedy, I mean damn. I love it!!! In these dark days you are a certain type of light that we all need. THANK YOU!!!
I second @Dennis Owens☝️Mr Video you are a JOY🥰
agreed, music brings us together right?
Leo is the light we all need🌞🌞🌞Love him!
Yes! Dennis Owens! I'm old skool also ( 51) and I love Mr. Video reactions. He has brought light into some dark times. We're all in this musical journey together, rediscovering the classics brings back great memories of youth& innocence😍💗
Yep😁😍
That little dancing kid knew the pandemic was coming! 😂
But seriously all the MJ tributes and Easter eggs in this video are great. The mask, the chimp, the lighted sidewalk, the lean, etc.
So, in reality, MJ knew the pandemic was coming?
Hey guys sorry not trying to sound like a dick but doesn't everybody know what an ant farm is it's a two-sided glass structure that you set on your table and you fill it with sand and then you put ants in it and give him a little bit of sugar and they make a hole series of tunnels and started Society so the band is thinking did aliens do that to us hence Alien Ant Farm
Don't forget the bridge: "Woooo! Woooo! Woooo! Wooo!"
This is honestly one of my favorite M.J. covers. One of the best as far as I'm concerned.
The house the kid was dancing in front of was little Michael's house.
😳😌
Didn't know that
Really? I thought it resembled the neighborhood, didnt know it was the actual house.
This is straight up love letter to MJ. ❤️
I see the face in the pillow. Aaf song “ movies” is really good too
I listen to movies like once a year and it always brightens my day!
It loiks like Kuato, the mutant empath baby conjoined twin thing, from the Schwarzenegger movie Total Recall.
"Glow" and "These Days"
I was just planning on watching/ listening to that after this. 😊 I also love attitude and tia Lupe.
This its my fave song by them still hits too
I love how it’s so obvious this band are Michael fans! Such a great cover !
I saw them in February 2002 before their first album released. The lead singer tore apart a heckler in the crowd, it was hilarious. Those dudes are amazing live.
this was reply to all MJ pedophile media hype.. kids that grew up with jackson was riding for mike.. btw FBI declared jackson innocent over 20 yrs ago
I remember this video years ago. I thought it was funny and clever at the same time.
Not easy to cover the King of Pop, but this song’s driving riff is a natural for a low-tech garage band guitar sound that this band brings to the farm table.
A fun back story -- my sister was an RRT, and a registered CPR instructor. The practice dummy is known as Resusci-Annie. Students are told to shake the dummy's shoulder and ask, "Annie, are you okay?" Evidently MJ knew about or had taken a CPR class, and and used that phrase in the refrain of the song. You're an absolute delight, Mr. Leo. Keep doing what you're doing. ♥
Smooth Criminal is my favorite MJ song. When these guys came out with this cover, I was blown away. Such a great cover!
This was my first time hearing AAF sing Smooth Criminal and I LOVED IT!!!!!!
They are the bomb
I don't know why these guys weren't bigger. They could play.
Yeah, I took my little sister and cousin to see them back when they were touring for their second album, and they were a really good live band. Unfortunately, like so many bands, they just couldn’t sustain their popularity past the two album mark and broke up.
@@crescentfreshbret theyre very much still a band.
Didn’t they have a bad bus accident that took them out for a while? Right while they were peaking.
The singer was lucky he wasn't paralyzed. Broke c3 vertebrae in the accident. Same as Christopher Reeves... The bus driver died.
@@crescentfreshbret they had five albums and still play together. You just make shit up as you go along or what?
I remember the first time I heard the original and thinking it was soooo ahead of its time. I loved it!! When I heard Alien Ant Fatm do this I fell in love again but was afraid no one would give Michael credit. Then I saw the video!!! Omg so much homage and respect!!! The silver glove chair thriller punk dancers the lean!! Glow tiles...it was so good!
There are so many frickin' easter eggs for MJ fans in that video. Their song "Movies" is pretty neat.
The dancing kid with the mask was like 19 years ahead of his time, dude looks prepared for a pandemic 😂 such a fun song though, they're a blast live too.
MJ would wear those masks in public.
Actually that is a reference to MJ wearing a mask, nothing to do with this fake pLandemic.
@@mjfreaklove he was smart enough to wear them to protect himself from getting sick. Unlike some nuts these days.🤣🤣🤣
@@moonakieater2308 Yea, love me some face diapers that help me breath less air while living in constant fear. I especially love to wear one when I'm driving by myself, nothing nutty about that.
@@jomormont you won't think it's nutty to wear them when someone you know dies from it
They had MJ permission and also covered your Love Sade’s Smooth Operator
I never knew about the Sade cover. Thanks for sharing and Mr. Video this song actually had you working out. I actually heard You panting as after all the dancing you did 😊. Love this song thanks for reacting to it.
I wish i cold find something to hear regarding the Sade cover. All I can find is a story.
@Dan M. I heard it back in the day. I believe on a music choice channel.
Not sure why I can’t find it online unless the person who owns the rights will not allow it (If that is Sade herself idk)
RIP to the big man
Deftones did a nice version of No Ordinary Love.
Oh God,I forgot about this song .... another favourite.
I so miss this era of music ....... ALL music was great. ..... regardless of the genre. RnB, Rock, Hip Hop, Pop Punk, Rap, Funk ..... it was ALL GREAT.
So many references. Drummer wearing one glove, the chair is a glove, light up sidewalk, the lean, the monkey, Thriller dance, the eyes at the end, the boy with the mask. Of course jumping on the car. Crazy how creative they were with this video.
I was not willing to hear an MJ covers but my husband snuck this in on a road trip. FIYAAAH.
This took me back to high school and wanting to watch the American Pie movies!
Good times. They dont make movies like that no more.
Hell yeah Jesse Kay!!! Sames except for the American Pie movies. I loved them though lol.
For real
😂
I like how the drummer wears a glove in tribute to MJ. Great cover. Great reaction.
This is widely considered one of the best rock covers in modern history. Another one you should check out is Careless Whisper by Seether, originally by Wham!/George Michael.
oh man we all knew this one was gonna be fun as hell haha
I never realized what a touching homage to MJ this video was 🤷🏼♀️😂🎶
LOL, you are *almost* as excited as I was when I saw AAF perform this live on 'Fridays' twenty years ago.
I hear this version and the original sounds slow to me. It's much better with the faster tempo.
I love how you dont react to the same old shit everyone does! you bring out the shit i forgot about from years ago and make it a good time!
I remember when this first came out they did their thing and were jamming on this cover of a great michael jackson song🔥🎶
I remember these guys. One of the best MJ cover versions I know. And it´s the only song I know from this band, looks like they lived to deliver just this one thing. And if you ask me, I love good cover versions. They always provide a new look on the songs I love or might just start loving for the cover version. Pay respect to the original, while at the same time add something new and interesting of your own to it. That´s how it goes.
I love how NO ONE is ready at the beginning of this video. All reactions I see people pause after the first few seconds. So, bomb. One of the best tribute/covers and videos ever made.
Alright.. let's pull out the easter eggs for ya!
1:27 and 1:46 The kid is wearing a mask, like how Michael wore one later on in life. And if you notice, he's roughly the same age Michael was when they started with the Jackson 5.
2:05 and 3:31 the lean. Everyone catches that.
3:50 The girl is in a high school letterman's jacket and wearing a wolf mask. Throwback to Thriller when Michael changed into the werewolf.
4:15 and 4:19 shoutout to the four dads from the TV show "King of the Hill"
4:21 to 4:30 Drummers may wear gloves to protect the senses in their hands from going numb from the drumsticks. Note that the drummer here is only wearing 1 glove on his right hand. The same hand that Michael wore his glove on.
5:28 He's sitting with a chimpanzee. The chimp is wearing a diaper, like Bubbles, Michael's chimp, did.
5:37 The sidewalk lights up wherever they are stepping. Throwback to Billie Jean.
6:00 Straight from the extended version of the video for Black or White. Michael jumped on the car, did that, and then destroyed the car.
6:08: King of the hill guys with the Thriller moves.
6:12 Michael always stood on that vent to have the air blow up from under him. Here you go.
6:22 to 6:36 More throwback to Billie Jean. Everything Michael touched lit up.
9:00 Throwback to the end of Thriller, when Michael turned back toward the camera and had the werewolf eyes.
Good stuff in this video!
Good ones!
6:00 MJ flag
6:12 Throwback to Marilyn Monroe
8:43 MJ's high water pants
nice list.
Liz Taylor tattoo on the guys back at the end . She was a close friend of MJ.
The inflatable chair is a silver glove
Excellent shit! I❤Michael! This I know he loved too! For DAMN Sure!
@@tracieleeburnett3395 Liked it? Not only did they ask for permission to do this, but Michael wanted them to do this! The throwbacks, dancing in front of his parent's house, the entire lot!
Interesting fact MJs version topped at #7 Alien Ant Farm took it to #1.
I mean, if you're only going to have one hit song...
also, a Grammy
To be fair, the first time I heard it and I was like "wow this sounds like a Micheal Jackson song" and my friend introduced me to older MJ albums
So, you are saying its better than MJ's version.
@@iamperplexed4695 SMH I stated a fact. Thats how fickle the charts are. CCR only had 2 #1s but they are one of the best of their era. But yes it was better than Jesus Juice.
Alien Ant Farm- These Days (they “crash” the BET awards in the music video).
an amazing tribute. Love this one. I'm a life long MJ fan (he was literally my first celeb crush when I was 8 lol) and this is one of the very few covers/tributes that I can get down with.
Lmao your commentary is a whole vibe. You keep me laughing.
This is one of a very few covers that takes an original that was already amazeballs and does it actual justice. One of my fave covers of all time.
I'm not the only one who sees the face in the pillow?! 🤯😂
One of my all-time favorite covers by anybody.
Man... there are SO many Easter eggs in this to other Michael Jackson videos... AMAZING!!!
When the song and the video came out on this song with these guys my daughter and I looked at each other and we were both rocking out and then we smiled and I said this was the best tribute to Michael Jackson I've ever seen these guys are true fans just goes to show you that music crosses over all barriers
You can always tell when a band or artist is a fan of someone they're covering and these guys tore the fuckin' roof off with this cover!! Put their heart and soul into it
A TRUE homage to the KING of music.... we all LOVE & MISS THIS MAN!! ❤😭
I knew you'd find this eventually you smooth criminal you.
😂😉
Early 00s days of boy bands and nu metal
AAF is neither of those....
@@davebcf1231 they definitely nu metal look it up..
@@OGGOAT23 No they aren't. Really don't give a shit if wiki says they are. They aren't even close. They're a rock band. Always have been. Funny for those of us who grew up in the 90's watching clowns claim anything with a guitar is nu-metal, though. AAF is far closer to pop-punk than anything metal.
Doesn't matter how you class them, they still suck.
@@davebcf1231 even Wikipedia says they are nu metal and this song is too..every website says so they know better than you
it makes me happy when you watch anything MJ related. Theres ton of covers by great artists - but here is my suggestion:
Billie Jean But Every Instrument Is A Spring Door Stopper
Your right not everybody can cover MJ. In fact almost no one can cover MJ and make it work. But these one hit wonders did. Amazing!
Movies and These Days say hi...
Mariah Carey did with Ill be there!!!
Quite possibly one of my favorite reactions of all time, Great Job...
Who else tried to lean like that back in the day when they first saw this. Freshman year high school for me HAHA
😂😂
It was late 80s for me when I seen Michael Jacksons Smooth Criminal video. And, yes I fell on my face trying it lol.
Don't remember how old I was but I do remember face planting in my front yard and not trying it again 😂
You gotta have stupid weights or magnets in your heels.......
@@tonygunk9810 its the shoes man, its the shoes!! LOL
Thank you again for cheering me up I'm 43 and I found out today I have cancer but it's all good i have angles watching over me and plus I'm a fighter. So thank you so much.
AAF is sorely missed. They never returned to their glory after the accident, and they had so much potential. "Movies" was a killer original track.
Bro. So many good songs by this band. "These days" has a killer video held on a roof top.
There is all kinds of Michael Jackson easter eggs all over this video. Even small ones you might not notice at first
Can I get a HELL YEA for how on point the drummer is ? Friggin awesome technique and timing .
I have always loved this version. I think its brilliant. MJ was a master song writer.
MJ did that lean by having special shoes that would hook into a mount point on the floor.
even after they explained the mechanism, watching the show, they are super stealthy getting to their marks. magic.
Still takes incredible core strength to do it
@@richardeberhart451 nah - any fatass can do it in a fun house *source.. i am a fatty ;) lol it's a great trick though!
There's a video of a live performance where people were making fun of one of MJ's backup dancers because he wasn't doing the lean correctly. It wasn't as widely known that some sort of rig was used (like c'mon, do you really think someone can balance & stay upright at that angle lol) not realizing that his rig had actually broke and he _couldn't_ do it.
😳🤔😣well damn😂
Hey man you should check Peaches by the presidents of the United States of America
I second this!! I named one of my dogs after this song 🤣
Fun band lol
YES!!! Saw them live a few times. Got punched in the face in the mosh pit during Peaches.. lol
I also saw them at the Liberty Lunch in Austin. I was 17 or 18, maybe? It was this tiny club and I met them afterward. No VIP pass, just $15 to get in and walking around to the band entrance during the last song. I love Dune Buggy, Naked and Famous, and Front Porch... but honestly, tha whole album is amazing.
Dune buggy is my favorite. Y’all heard the singers childs music group “Casper baby pants”?
Yeah! also Their song Kitty.
I really enjoy when covers are inventive and well done. Sometimes they're equally as good, just in completely different ways.
One of the most unique covers ever! Loved the references of MJ throughout the video too, “Brilliant!”
Love your reactions,
And the main reason why I'm here is , this is the place where I'm getting all the songs for my playlist ❤️.
The guy at the end is Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
ITS IS NOT
Excellent band!
And all the "tributes" to Michael in the video- awesome.
In an interview with the band, they said they had trouble replicating MJ secret weapon in all his songs, the way MJ used his voice. The way MJ sang he created a second percussion which created an additional hook in the song which made his songs so catchy. I think AAF did well with it, it's a fun cover.
I had forgot all about this one. Kudos to whoever recommended it! They did their thang on this! You can’t hate on it at all. And you can tell they were real fans of MJ with all of the Easter eggs in the video. The lead singer is so captivating to watch. I love his moves! I don’t know any other songs by this band but this one. Great choice for a reaction ❤️
I loved everything about this video. All of the MJ references throughout the video. Def one of the most underrated bands from the late 90s/early 2000s
"Don't be yellin at me man, I just got here. I didn't know!"
I FELL OUT!! 😆😂😆
Was magically hoping you'd one day react to this video and it didn't disappoint.
Dude, I fucking LOVE your reactions!! I've been around since you had around 10k subscribers and I originally liked you because you smoked a joint at the beginning of each video. Almost a year later, you are by far and away my favorite. Keep it up my man!!
You wasn’t ready lol
Man this brings me back to high school. This came out when I was a freshman and we used to jam it so fuckin hard. Thanks for bringing me back, and letting me enjoy it all over again with you bro. Havent heard this in some years lol
The best thing about this video is EVERYTHING in it is a reference to MJ. They also did a song called "Movies" but everything in the MV is movie related
“How am I gonna do MJ stuff” he says 😂😂 Well played whoever suggested this one 👍. ✌️
Is it me or did the young lad dancing look normal with that mask on. It only dawned on me near the end.
The vids old, just seems to fit with today.
That little kid dancing like Michael is probably the best part of the music video!!
This song just reminded me of The Offspring “Pretty Fly For A White Guy”
This may sound wrong but can you do the song "Pepper" by Butthole Surfers . Im sure many subscribers know it.
Absolutely
🤟🏼🤘🏼 yes plz!🤞🏼
Hell yes
Hell yes!!
Definitely! MR. Video you need to listen to Pepper!
Lol. It surprised me years ago as well. I'm old enough to remember when MJ was really cool with thriller. Then I found heavy metal. It's funny how Eddie van halen played with Michael. MJ wasn't afraid of the guitar
The video was sooo good. The sidewalk lighting up like in Billy Jean, the move with the shoe hook that MJ actually patented, it was great.
I'm still listening to AAF today. They are Legends for their time. Shame they never got more love.
This is definitely one of my favorite covers 🤘🏽 They snapped on this.
Hey! Just wanted to say thank you. You are bringing A LOT of joy to A LOT of people. You are so genuine. I don’t know if you realize how special you are. You brighten up thousands and thousands lives daily! You should be so proud of yourself! You have come a long way. Know that there are people who care about you and wish nothing but the best for you and your boys. I find watching you is like therapy. You’ve helped me, and I am thankful. I watched your reaction to the Eurythmics last night. I almost choked on the apple I was eating when you asked if you’re okay Annie..is this what Michael Jackson meant? I laughed so hard, and all night if I thought about it, I’d crack up! I was wondering if you would be watching AAF’s version of Smooth Criminal - what a surprise to see this today!
I wish you and your boys nothing but the best! I wish I was in a position to help in some way, but I think things are moving in the right direction for you! Please take care! (Have you ever smoked a whole joint while watching/listening a song? Lol Seems like you end up getting distracted! I finish mine! Lol) Love from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada! 💕
"The guitar player is vibin'...he's been vibin' since the beginning...he's the one who yelled at me" Bro...I literally laughed out loud. Great reaction video..Subbin' my dude.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG FOR SOMEONE TO REACT TO THIS SONG!!!!! I'm so happy you love it as much as I do. AAF is so damn underrated!
“Attitude” is also a really good one by them
Aye man just gotta say I know you prolly hear this alot, but I REALLY enjoy your reactions man. I really hope you blow up bigger than some of these other reaction channels that add nothing to the video, other than being annoying. You seem like you're growing quickly, and I hope it continues to happen and you can be completely financially sufficient from your videos alone. Keep it up man!
LOL! "He was the one who yelled at me....So he caught my attention." I love your reviews.
