All three of those guys were true masters of their craft. There's a reason they were able to remain relevant and awesome for some four or five decades. An extraordinary combination of talent.
The only times I've ever heard a crowd sing along with an instrumental have been at Rush shows. I wasn't at any of the Brazil shows but we saw the tour in Washington state.
I was lucky enough to see them 5 times, but I'm only 45 minutes from downtown Toronto. There are many fans that have followed them around the world, and have seen them 100+. Crazy
YYZED is the airport code for Toronto where Rush are from. Neil and Geddy were in the plane that Alex was co piloting and the saw the code come up. The sound at the beginning is YYZED in Morse Code. This song represents how happy they feel about seeing YYZ on their luggage after touring as it means they are heading home. Geddy Lee Bass, Keyboards and Vocals Alex Lifeson guitar Neil Peart Drums, Percussion and lyrist. ✌🇨🇦
That look on your face thru that whole song was priceless. Welcome to Rush, the greatest 3 piece band this world has ever seen. All that sound came from 3 guys.
Geddy Lee on Bass, keyboards and synthesizers, and vocals, Alex Lifeson on guitars, and the late Neil Peart on drums and wrote all the songs for the band. You gotta see Neil Peart on the drums with the drum solos he did over the years. INCREDIBLE drummer. The best of the best. His drumming techniques were untouchable. No one could match it. You also gotta hear and see RED BARCHETTA and LIMELIGHT, and TOM SAWYER. These 3 songs are from the same Moving Pictures album as YYZ you just reacted to in this video. Listen to these 3 guys once and you'll be hooked for life.
Listen the live Album "Exit Stage Left" You will not be able to tell the difference between live and studio versions. La' Villa Strangato .... If you like this you have to try that. RUSH has such talent in that band.
To say the least!!!!!! The live version of YYZ in Rio is off the charts incredible where the crowd feeds off the band and the band feeds off the crowd. Pure bliss!!!
Awesome Jayy!! Yes Rush; like Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult, Led Zeppelin and the Moody Blues are not just music, they are an EXPERIENCE. They sound like no one else and no one can sound like them. RIP Neil Peart (aka Drum God)! Enjoy this rabbit hole because you wont ever forget it! :D
All international airports have a 3 letter code that identifies them some are obvious, like here in Boston, Logan International Airport is BOS. JFK Airport is "JFK." Some are less obvious like Newark (NJ) is "EWR." In Canada, Montreal's Dorval International Airport is YUL. And whatever the main International airport in Toronto is called, it's code is YYZ. Rush is from the Toronto area, and the chaos represented so beautifully in this song is meant to represent the busy-ness and chaos of Toronto's busiest Airport. I had the privilege of seeing Rush live in Binghamton, NY in 1981 while touring the Moving Pictures album, which featured this song.
This was my first Rush record. You are welcome to listen to the whole album ;-) That's prog rock. Alternatively, you can also hear something from another prog veteran. "Heart Of The Sunrise" from the album "Yessongs" (by Yes)
Just three guys making all this amazing noise. If you listen carefully you will only hear there instruments at a time yet it sounds like an orchestra... That is how talented these musicians are.
This track came together during the 1980 sessions for the 'Moving Pictures' album as a moment of fun... Alex Lifeson (guitar) stepped out of the studio to take a break... Neil Peart (drums) & Geddy Lee (bass/vocals) decided to jam... when Lifeson came back to the studio, Lee and Peart had written and arranged 'YYZ' on the fly!
This is my favorite band of all time and to truly appreciate them you have to see them LIVE! I highly recommend the live version of "Xanadu" performed live in 1981 on their 'Exit Stage Left' album, but no matter what Rush you react to they're all awesome!
It’s a little overwhelming… I’m crying honest tears of joy for you and a little bit of jealousy for me that I can never hear YYZ for-the-first-time-again... It’s a masterpiece. If you want to hear more of their instrumental work, “La Villa Strangiato”
"Fiddlestickin' mindblown", after 30 years, I'm still alficted from this band of three guys that said, uh yeah, here's something you've never heard before.
Rush is known for doing instrumental, Prog Rock workouts. YYZ is their second instrumental, from 1981. Their first instrumental is a song called "La Villa Strangiato". La Villa is even more of a journey...it's even more epic and varied and phenomenal! Please listen to that and have your mind blown all over again! :)
Hello Jay, this is a great album from Rush. You've heard "Tom Sawyer" before. I think "The Camera Eye" is great too. One band that you've left out so far is Yes. I think you should like that too. Maybe "Shock To The System" from the album "Union" is a good song to get to know.
Jayy, I do not request much but I would suggest you do this Live in Rio. Best three piece band of all time. Geddy Lee-Bass, Synthesizer, lead vocals. Neal Peart- Drums Alex Lifeson- Lead Guitar.
This should open you up to a whole new world. It was considered "progressive rock" in the 70s and 80s. Rush, Yes, King Crimson, Emerson Lake and Palmer..... but Rush is simply the best if you ask me and most people. Their timing and key signature changes are off the charts, they can go places in a song you just don't even expect. And Neil Peart is the greatest drummer in history who left us too soon. The best thing about Rush is that they truly are (were) the best of friends off the stage and stayed together through everything since 8th grade in a suburb of Toronto called Willowdale. They were the band for geeks like me who felt a little awkward in high school and weren't in the hip or cool crowd. They are really good guys, never got into drug or alcohol issues (a famous story of them is when they were opening for Kiss in 1975 is that after a show the 3 of them went bowling and back to their hotel room to read books while Kiss was partying with all sorts of typical rock star debauchery. When Gene Simmons knocked on their door to ask if they wanted to play with some ladies he opened the door to find them laying on their beds reading books lol)
Best 3 man rock band in history. Period. There are over 160 Rush songs to listen to and appreciate. Try these next. Xanadu from exit stage left 1981, LaVilla Strangiato, Subdivisions, Natural Science, Tom Sawer and many many more. Enjoy the ride!!
Lyrics would be essential for "The Fountain Of Lamneth" However, I think Jayy is ready for some "200 level" courses in the Rush anthology 😁 It also helps to know what a didact is (a teacher, often harsh &/or overzelous) and that "Narpets" is an anagram of parents. I was 17 in 1976 when I discovered Rush. They've been my "new favourite band" from that day to this. They changed my life on so many levels but just to say that when a band can get a 17 year old to read about French history ("Bastille Day") and expand their vocabulary with words like didact and cacophany, you know you've come across greatness. #RushOn🤘
@@JimiBurleigh Well said .I was 12 in 76 i was not in to them yet it was 15 i think for me All the Worlds a stage was my first album been a fan since Still wanna see her do Fountain though LOL Peace Jimi

The intricacies of their shifts of sound, unparalleled musical gymnastics.... Pretty intense eh? We up there I Canada have a few aces up our collective sleeves. Their song Tom Sawyer will have you speechless.
Fiddlestickin Mind Blown lol. Speechless. Umm Yep that's what they do to you... You need to see this Live to see the 3 of them soloing and dueling it out... It's amazing. So glad I got to see them live in 97. Thanks.
Love your reaction. It's like how do they do that?!?! That's everyone's first reaction. Watch them play it live and see that it's three guys doing all of that and get a taste for just HOW they do that!
Alex Lifeson is such an underrated guitarist. Also note: The rhythm you hear is morse code for YYZ. That's the ICAO designation for Toronto Airport. Neil heard the transponder giving that YYZ code and ... then this all happened. LOL
The "Live in Rio" version is a must watch - the song is impressive in the studio, it is mind-blowing live (also crazy to hear the Rio crowd singing along to an instrumental lol)
Tour wide-eyed expression through most of the song said everything, lol! Mind-blowing, huh? Now you should watch them do this live in Rio and hear the crowd sing along with an instrumental. Cheers! PS - your brother’s song is badass.

You should react to the YYZ live in Rio. The crowd is epic.
Exactly 💯 when the audience sings to an instrumental is EPIC.
