- Today we are reacting to Comfortably Numb (originally by Pink Floyd). This version however is from David Gilmour live concert in Pompeii. Reaction from Ebony & Ivory - none of us really listened or know band that much. Lukasz definetely listened to Pink Floyd's Another Brick in The Wall Pt.2 a lot but not anything else apart from that really.

Loved your thoughtful and considered reaction - thank you. As others have commented, the ‘Pulse’ live album sets the benchmark, but I love the fact that David Gilmour can still perform at that level even when he’s 70. ‘Sorrow’ and ‘High Hopes’ from this gig are highly recommended.

The location is the Amphitheater of Pompeii. The oldest amphitheater on the planet. Gilmour was the First live act in that Amphitheater since 79ad. A 40 yr old David Gilmour in a black tshirt, playing in front of people who are half his age, shredding a 40+ yr old guitar solo and still blowing every away. Gilmour was the First live act in that Amphitheater since 79😔AD. That is true power!!
Pink Floyd is an amazing band. This video is actually a solo tour from Pink Floyd's guitarist and lead singer, David Gilmour, from 2016. No one else on stage is a member of Pink Floyd. I happened to get to see this tour and it was amazing (David Gilmour is my favorite rock guitarist. He was 70 years old in this video). They are at Pompeii, the first live act allowed to perform there since ancient times. (Pink Floyd had last performed there with no audience back in 1971). To see most of the classic members of the band, I suggest checking out the song 'Sorrow' from the Pink Floyd Pulse concert from 1994. That concert features Pink Floyd's original drummer and keyboard player, along with David Gilmour. The original Pink Floyd lyricist and bass player, Roger Waters, left the band in 1985. A great performance to check out of the classic lineup is 'Echoes, live from Pompeii in 1971'.
Thanks so much for taking time to write this. We both are totally "green" when it comes to Pink Floyd. I myself listened to Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2 on repeat when I was a teenager, but that the extend of my knowledge of Pink Floyd's catalog unfortunately. Never to late to get into it though.
I understand...I was pretty green myself until 2015, when a good friend of mine became a big fan. I started listening and was blown away. I am a particularly big fan of David Gilmour, so I thought it was awesome he toured in 2016, just one year after I became a fan. By the way, the Pulse concert version of "Another Brick in the Wall part 2' is amazing and definitely worth a reaction at some point. Enjoy your Pink Floyd journey!
Probably my favorite band of all time. The song from the album is way better than the live versions. Their music will take you on a journey, especially if you just close your eyes and listen. You will feel the music in your soul❣

@@EbonyIvoryReact to be honest, David Gilmour is Pink Floyd, to me. his voice, amazing guitar work. altho i was too young to get the band early on. Roger waters was the main song lyric writer for most of their hits i think. but any song from that Pulse concert is gold, has 3 of the 4 members, drummer, keyboardist, and david gilmour.

David Gilmour is a genius ! Pink floyd is the best band ever.
The song is about 2 incidents in Roger Waters life, when he was sick as a child and then later when he got ill just before he was about to perform. It is a conversation between doctor and patient. And indeed this was in the Collisseum at Pompeii, it was a return gig for DG as Pink Floyd also performed there back in 1971, I highly recommend you check out Echoes from that performance.

Excellent reaction you two, you guys nailed David Gilmours' guitar style. He says so much with just a few notes, or a bend, or riff,... so much more than a guitarists that plays a bajillion notes a minute, imo, (Shredding).
I don't know if you guys intend going down that wonderful, phenomenal Pink Floyd Rabbit hole, but if you do I have some suggestions. First two rules you'll hear from virtually all Pink Floyd fans is, 1) Using headphones is a MUST when listening to Pink Floyd. Their music has a lot of detail, and there's so much going on, and some of it is very subtle and headphones or earphones are needed for the absolute best Pink Floyd experience. 2) Never, ever pause a David Gilmour solo!
Pink Floyd was/is a British Rock band formed in London in 1965, they have sold over 450 million albums worldwide! I've been a huge Pink Floyd fan since the release of their iconic 'Dark Side Of The Moon' album in 1973. I have seen them twice live, and I can tell you no one put on a show like Pink Floyd did, it's a humongous production for every concert venue they perform at. They are well known for their elaborate live performances and incredible lazar and light shows!

David Gilmour can play a single note and have it sound sublime and grandiose; this is his greatest skill!! As far as vocals... he does exactly what the song needs; nothing more nor less!! Overall? It's never been about how phenomenal he is... it's been ALL about how tastefully he uses his voice, guitar effects, string bending techniques, finesse and style!! Is he the greatest guitarist ever? No. He however takes you on a journey with him, the song and his guitar!! Pink Floyd & Gilmour are The G.O.A.T.

If you like Pink Floyd as much as it seems, sadly there is only ONE WAY you're going to see their music "live" in concert (2021+) other than an older dvd (or maybe Waters or Gilmour solo in concert; they're getting old my friend)... more importantly hearing the songs done exacting to the studio albums adding a very good example of the "live" light show... you may wanna check out the following group that's IMO far better than a tribute band!! All four of the Floyd boys played in an empty Pompeii colosseum in 1971. David is playing a homage of sorts in one almost half a century later. It was filmed in cinematography and they used the full touring kit at the time. For the film maker it was in response to the madness of Woodstock. Some of that might be a bit off, but I think it is over all accurate.

Pink Floyd has a huge fan base around the world. This is due to the fact that their music is perfect and timeless, they used a lot of musical and sound experiments in the beginning, but mainly the lyrics are extremely intelligent and have something to say to every little sensitive person. If you're not a big fan of this band right now, listen to more of their work and I'm sure you'll change your mind. By the way, David Gilmour is one of the best guitarists of all time. It's not because he's extremely technical or very fast, but the experience and sensibility of his game is stunning. He can speak to the soul with a guitar.
If you want to have a real experience and hear a cross-section of the entire work of Pink Floyd, watch the concert "Pulse" from 1994. It is phenomenal not only musically (of course) but also visually. The best live performance I've ever seen ...

It appears Pink Floyd fans want to see uninterupted reactions :) We mainly do reactions with lyrics breakdown and what we think they mean, hence quite a few pauses (if you compare it to our other videos though, you would think we didnt pause much in that David Gilmour performance :) We might go for Pulse version at some point and making a bit longer reactions between pausing :)

@@jacobpaulson23 gilmour is brilliant, what lets this down is the other musicians (who might be great in another setting but here they do not suit this song),particularly how they have done roger waters vocal parts, wright and the others have done rogers parts well in other versions, i still agree that this version is great but there are bits in it that make me cringe, but this is only my opinion, im sure others dont feel as bad about it as i do.
@@kevinohara2618 Obviously Waters vocals are the best, but given that this is essentially gilmour and friends they did a great job. Guy Pratt does run like hell fantastic, for example. But Gilmour is always brilliant, I thought you were referring to his parts.
200 years from now people speak about pink Floyd us speaking for Mozart and Picasso. If you don't see the comfortably numb from pulse live you must definitely see that because it's the best version of this iconic song. Pulse concert is the best in history of music.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the comment. It was our first listen to the song and (apparently) we've chosen the wrong version. We did eventually do reaction to The Pulse version without pausing the video. Ivory is only familiar with Another Brick in the Wall pt. 2 and as for myself I've not heared Pink Floyd before and many other bands we are currently discovering and reacting to. 2 years ago I was still living in Africa where we are not really exposed to a lot of these classic bands. Thanks again for commenting and not fixating on the version of the song we reacted to. 👍🏼
Yeah I saw that you guys checked the other live version out and you guys let it play through.I think it's from the cd called a delicate sound of thunder almost like a greatest hits live cd. If you guys are interested in some other great songs from alot different bands I can give the song titles and I don't know if your guys are going for views and subscribers but that would help you guys out on that and enjoy some good tunes on the way.
He's old... He's adapting how he sings this song from when he was young in the 70s... You might just enjoy the originals with lyrics sometimes or do a side by side comparison sometimes
Many thanks @wcemichael. We might do comparison as you mentioned (and other people in the comments). Perhaps starting with this version and going to the original or the so praised Pulse concert version will just show us how amazing they are in comparison to Pompeii concert :D.
@@EbonyIvoryReact Well you are going to find a lot of "versions" of things. The whole album is also one huge video that also needs to be seen to get a fuller impact of the experience. It's like a movie..... only it's music. I've seen it. It's amazing. Another guy to consider is Jethro Tull and the Aqualung album. It's one of few albums I listened to start to finish over and over again. This man plays rock and roll flute solos. "cross eyed mary" live is great.
I know this is 3 yrs old, but now in 2024 and 2025 he's going to do a world tour starting in Sept. He's also got a new album that's coming out. He's 78!

We managed to find out a little more about this performance etc. This is what happens when you try and do a reaction to something you don't have a clue about :) Important thing is we learned something new and now can compare this performance to other ones praised by the Pink Floyd fan base :)
Roger Waters (not in this performance as he left the band in 1985) wrote the lyrics. He suffered a severe case of Hepatitus one evening before a show. His hands swollen from it and in much pain. He was given medication and was the able to perform. He stated that he couldnt feel the fret board on his bass, but with 15000 fans screaming, they didnt seem to notice. That was what the song was about, a personal experience.

Wrong version my friend you need to react to the best version ever of comfortably numb which was held at the "Pulse" concert Earl's Court London in 1994.plus this song is based on a band member who injured himself just before going on stage and was given an injection to help him get through the concert and the reaction he got was a feeling of being comfortably numb. The one problem iv'e got with you as reactors is you pause far to much and you must never,never,pause in guitar solo.one last thing pink floyd have been going since the mid 60s and are the greatest progressive rock band in the world bar none.

We will check the Pulse version at some point - it will be cool, as now we will have a point of reference :) I didn't remember us pausing at the solo, but I might be wrong here. In all honesty we mainly like to do reactions with lyrics breakdown. We might think about titling videos a little bit different as it appears that a lot of viewers want to see us just reacting to songs. But since we breakdown the lyrics and what we think they mean, we tend to pause fairly often (as you said).

The best place to start with Pink Floyd is their Dark Side of the Moon album from 1973. Turn your computer and your phone off and get ready for a 43-minute biography of life from birth to death! Incredible music and profound lyrics!! Pink Floyd is the Mozart of the 20th century and I'm fairly certain their music will continue to be listened to a thousand years from now!

Wow thank you! Seems all different music types connect people. We ourselves havent listened to Pink Floyd (me at all and Lukasz only heard like one of their songs before). We will probably go through more of their music at some point :)

This version is nowhere near Pulse version. David seems to lose focus a few times and up meandering. Pulse is perfection.
