David Gilmour's voice is amazing, as is his guitar playing. The most popular live performance of this song is from the Pulse concert in 1994. Note: David Gilmour auctioned off his guitars, got $21.5 million, and donated it all to charity.

      Hi Mary Margaret,
it's the ultimate version for me too 🙏
By the way I just recorded my version of this P.U.L.S.E guitar solo that I, finally, passionately played on a cool '79 Stratocaster Antigua that a friend lent me for that type of sound..If you would watch it, it's the last on my channel...Humbly...🙏😉

One of my best friends knows Dave. He hung around Dave a lot through the 70s. He even tried to hire my friend to be his personal chef. If you think Dave is a kind and generous man, which he is, my friend has told me NUMEROUS acts of kindness he performed to help others and it is enough to make you cry. Not only a great musician, but a great man.

this solo is the equivalent of beethoven's concerto for violin and orchestra. epochal, gigantic, unrivaled, unique, masterpiece. It is the mount everest for guitarists who are serious. And even if they can play it technically, there's one thing you can't learn: feeling.

I'm not even a fan of Floyd and I still kneel before this legend. The song itself is a journey and the solo is like The Return of the King extended version on top of that. This isn't top tier. It's master level

Comfortably Numb is on The Wall album. As I said in my other comment (which has disappeared), David Gilmour was the lead guitarist and lead vocalist for Pink Floyd. This is Chuck Leavell singing/speaking (and keyboards); he's also the keyboard player for the Rolling Stones in their later years.

It’s crazy to think there’s still so many people out there who don’t know this music. Pink Floyd was my fathers favorite band. I was born in 86, so by default I’ve been listening to this band literally my entire life. I was told my parents would throw on “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” to get me to fall asleep as a baby. David Gilmour and Stevie Ray Vaughan are the only guitarists made me actually FEEL the solos that they were playing. Great great great job Van. Keep it up good sir.

I saw him perform a lot of his solo songs as well as Pink Floyd classics when he toured in 2016. He came through Chicago, so I wasn't going to miss the chance to see a legendary musician in action. It was an amazing show. David Gilmour is a phenomenal guitarist and singer and Pink Floyd's music evokes a time and place that I was too young to absorb at the time these songs were released (I was 2 years old in 1979 and David Gilmour is the same age as my dad). I am so glad he toured in 2016 and hope he will tour at least one more time (his last tour before 2016 was 10 years earlier, in 2006).

Sir David Gilmour! I think the Rolling Stone mag did him a diss by putting him at 14th in the list of greatest guitarists. My brother loves one line from this from a different perspective. He was a career merchant marine. He said that when you're out at sea for so long and see nothing that there's nothing like seeing another ship's smoke on the horizon. Love this performance. The vocals on this song were originally done by first by Roger Waters and answered by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Later, when Roger quit the band, Richard Wright, the original PF keyboardist, took over the 1st set of vocals on this song, as well as after David had gone solo took the vocal part. Unfortunately Richard died in 2008 of cancer. For this live concert tour, the first verses are sung by keyboardist Chuck Leavell, who's probably best known for his work with The Alllman Brothers Band, Sea Level and The Rolling Stones.

I watched your zep videos.... and loved your reaction... this is the british invasion.... many blues artists of the 30's to 50's went to england... where the'r music was respected, so you see with Zep, Floyd, Clapton... a sound that renders and displays the influence of those blues artists.... and not to sound racist... they thought... stones included... that to get the real soulful sound they desired.... black back up singers were necessary. I love it... many don't understand that what we called 'rock' back in the day... had a serious soul influence.... robert johnson was revered by zepellin..... we were separated even then when I grew up... with the british invasion 'soul' sound... and the southern rock sound.... interesting what we learn when we really travel the magical highways of music

Comfortably Numb is from "The Wall" which was released in 1979. David Gilmour is 75 right now (born in '46) and yes, they are an English band. Formed in London in the mid 1960's David Gilmour joined Pink Floyd after the departure of founding member Syd Barrett in 1968.
"Learning To Fly" features some incredible guitar tone and tasty licks from Gilmour and "Wish You Were Hear" shows that he can play acoustic guitar with every bit as much soul as he does an electric. Which isn't easy, I can tell you that for nothin' - Acoustic guitars aren't nearly as forgiving as an electric and mistakes or "clunkers" are obvious.
Now if you're really diggin' the Pink Floyd you might like to try "Atom Heart Mother" and "Animals" "Pigs: Three Different Ones" in particular - Peace!

Pink Floyd recorded Echoes in 1972 at the ampitheature in Pompeii, Italy. 45 years later David Gilmour (guitar player) returns to Pompeii for a second time during his 2016 Rattle That lock Tour.

There is a video here on UA-cam where David Gilmour plays Purple Rain right before the Comfortably Numb solo as a tribute to Prince.

The man is in his 70s standing in the Oldest amphitheater on the planet wearing one of Jimi Hendrix guitar straps, he's been singing for more than 2 hrs and finished with this song. Schooling every band, every guitar player on the planet

In high school I had to go to bed early, but I played the one you have unopened with headphones on in bed. That whole album was like a movie. And Prince was one of the best guitarists around, which is very tough in the 80s. Might be the biggest decade for solos...

"ASMR" was the term you were looking for, and you made a good point. That ASMR stuff doesn't work for me, but I guess this song does to me what others say ASMR does for them.

In an interview with David Gilmour, he was asked about his favorite guitarists, and the one he said just amazes him is Jeff Beck. If you get a chance, check out Jeff Beck's version of Stevie Wonder's "So We've Ended as Lovers" from his "Live at Ronnie Scott's" concert that you can find on video. Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) played in the Yardbirds back in the 60s. If you like drums, the drummer on that album is Vinnie Caliuta, who's an awesome rock jazz and studio drummer.

David has lost nothing either vocally or in his playing since that amazing pulse performance in 1994. He was 70 yrs of age here. An inspiration to us all.
