This is a very good review of probably the best guitar solo ever heard! Thank you.Gilmore blows my mind. I’m a 66 year old woman, and listening to his playing, transports me to the stars. I’m guessing, it’s like being high on a drug, but without any drug. I’ve not taken a single recreational drug in my lifetime, but I should image the feeling is the same listening to this glorious solo. Again thank you. Caroline, north London.

I have seen Pink Floyd 4 times. I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know.

I wound up returning to music teaching my son keys and Guitar as I knew only a little of each. Then when he moved and grad in 2017 I took a year to realize I needed that sound. I bought a strat. That's probably the best analogy of David's style I've ever read. Well put! He is technically the best I've ever seen, such precision and flawless. I've played acoustic for over 42 years, not professionally but for the love of it. Watching David is such a gift. And the way he plays, just watching it, the difficulty level is unattainable. Sure you could play the chords, and learn the song. But only he knows how to get the sound he produces. A pure Magician!

Gilmore must have known something about physiological responses to certain tonalities and rhythms when he composed those two guitar solos. Even as a former guitarist, (broken hand last October has left behind nerve damage 😢), playing this masterpiece would leave me shaken. No, I was not a virtuoso, but technically, this song is accessible to an experienced intermediate level guitarist (I played for 60 years before I got hurt). I was fortunate enough to see David Gilmour on this tour. He was showcasing his new album at the time, 'Rattle That Lock' (which I also enjoy) but the Pink Floyd classics are just on another level. He was 70 years old in 2016 and as you can tell, he still sounds amazing! The bass player in this concert, Guy Pratt, is the same player as in the Pulse concerts with Pink Floyd (he was only in his 30s back then. I think it's cool that he continues to perform with the members of Pink Floyd on their solo ventures). If you want to react to more of David Gilmour's solo shows, I suggest checking out the song 'In Any Tongue,' also from this David Gilmour Pompeii concert or 'On An Island' featuring Crosby and Nash (from 2006).

I saw an interview on TV with an American musician and he swore Gilmour was among the best guitarists ever and one of the reasons was that he did not fill every note with sound. He said that most musicians were frightened of leaving spaces in their music and Gilmour regularly leaves whole note size spaces in his music in the knowledge that the mind will use that space and fill it in. It also allows room for all the musical layers provided by the other musicians.

David Gilmour on his own as Roger left band and sadly the keyboardist
Richard Wright who normally spoke the beginning verses of the song had passed . David did not think he could do this song without Richard to his left but this song is so popular so he had a friend read the words out.. David is my favorite guitarist but I think he is also a great singer also underated. This is one of the top 10 most popular song worldwide and the fans love it.

I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd since 69. This is one song that gets me every time I hear it. 2nd solo when David hits that high note towards the end. You know what I mean.✌️

Just listened to some songs of Pink Floyd and David Gilmour solo. A new one (2020) from David Gilmour is "yes I have ghosts". Really beautiful, you should try it someday, thanks.

Hi Harri, Don't ever apologize for going on too long. As you said about David Gilmour, every note he plays is meaningful, so is every word you speak... I love you! - Brooklyn Mike

I always thought it was about a rock star suffering pre-gig nerves. The band manager, dealer if you like, gives him a shot of smack or something to get him through the show. Hence, he’s feeling no pain now. Actually I once saw a video of David Bowie performing somewhere on a large stage and he was clearly on a different planet. His face was blank but he sang all the songs well and performed well. He was just ‘comfortably numb.’ I never saw it as anything but and I have loved and adored this Pink Floyd song since it first came out. I recall in 1978 listening to Comfortably Numb in my lounge room in Port Moresby PNG. I was with my great friend Michelle and we lay on our backs with the stereo cranked up to eleven. My Kef Concerto speakers moved enough air for a storm and we were pissed out of our heads. It was one of those fabulous moments that you never forget. Our ears rang for days afterwards but we loved it. I cherish that memory, among many others. I’m a lucky man !

The message......my take away is in the beautiful, masterful lyric, "the child is grown, the dream is gone. I have become comfortably numb." 🤓

I saw Floyd without Waters. The concert was a sensory explosion and one that I revisit whenever I hear this song. David has two voices, one vocally and the other is his guitar. Harri, Thanks for sharing this today. You continue to give my favorite reactions. ✌️

Most artists or groups you can pigeon hole - rock, blues, grunge, jazz etc. Pink Floyd is just simply Pink Floyd not comparable to anyone else

The bleeding heart of the band is Sir Roger Waters, a Genius human, David is pure soul and my master, Richard came to the Earth from the infinite cosmos and Nick is presicion , a wonderful drummer.
The Unique band of this Universe.

I have recently discovered your channel. You are now my favorite reaction person, and I have a number of reaction channels I frequent. Your insightful comments and the ability to articulate your feelings are rare. I am duly impressed. Few UA-camrs possess these abilities.
Pink Floyd has been my favorite band going back to the days of Syd Barrett. "Dark Side of the Moon" is the most iconic album ever with "The Wall" not far behind. "Ummagumma " was the album when they were really developing their sound after the departure of Syd. They are an album oriented band and therefore you need to listen to the entire album in order to capture the entire message.
And besides, we share the same name! Lol

There are several videos in different venues of this song. Congratulations on choosing the best with this Pompeii performance. I have always gotten a kick out of watching the drummer who is bathing in the moment and in his unadulterated joy of performing with the legend Mr. Gilmore.
