Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As one of Scotland history tour guides people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation of your from the US. So from April 2020 I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

Hi Bruce! First off, I'm an avid fan slowly making his way through you're playlisy keenly learning about Scottish history.
I was born in Ireland to an Irish mother and a Scottish farther and have always considered myself kinda, half and half.
Would you be able to do a video on the difference or common traits between gaelic Ireland and gaelic Scotland?
    Many thanks

In the off chance you don't know: the nearby village of Kirkoswald claim that Bruce was christened in the church there. I don't know if any formal documentation exits, but if it does, that would strengthen the claim that Bruce was born in Turnberry Castle - See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirkoswald,_South_Ayrshire

Great videos about the Bruce. John Balliol was also the son of a Gaelic mother Lady Devorgilla MacDowell Balliol and a Norman father John Balliol. The two families were basically neighbors in Eastern Galloway and Dumfries. The difference between the two I think is that Bruce was a warrior! Think of him splitting the head of the English knight open with his battle axe( at Bannockburn?). The one thing I see that Balliol, Wallace, Comyn and the Bruce have in common is that none of them could defeat Longshanks in the field. I assume he was not present at Rosylin against Comyn. The Bruce was fortunate enough that Edward I died, and he could face Edward II at Bannockburn (just as Wallace had faced Edward II at Stirling Bridge. Curiously, it seems that Wallace, Murray, and Comyn all remained loyal to King John Balliol. Only the Bruce did not. So, he wins one War only to leave a second War to be fought between the Bruce's and the Balliol clan. Thanks again for the great history. A McDowell from Alabama, U.S.A., J.R.S.,Jr.,Esq.

Another great video. Do you know anything about the time when Robert the Bruce invaded England to gain funds for his planned invasion of Ireland ( that never happened in the end ) ? I live near Cockermouth Castle which was, according to tradition, besieged by Robert and virtually destroyed by trebuchets. Cumbria has been in Scotland in the past but has been English for the last few centuries. There is a lot of Scottish influence here in terms of archaeology, place names, etc.

    Howdy Bruce from Texas!
I have greatly enjoyed many of your videos and am moved to comment and thank you.
Robert the Bruce (VII?) had many loyal supporters. Arguably, he could not have gotten as far as he did without the Black Douglas lifelong support. The Bruce and the Douglas's almost need to be mentioned together.
What are your thoughts sir? I admit to be somewhat prejudiced towards the Douglas.

I traced back to a man named Robert Lea McMichael. I can imagine my relative is probably named after Robert Lea Bruce... But!! Margaret's, Marjorie's, and James also comes up in my family (being regiven it seems) So I am to think maybe its not coincidental. I hope the DNA test will tell me something.
