Another great video Bruce, nice surprise sitting here and seeing it shot in my hometown of Falkland. I also see Huntingtower on my way to work in Perth everyday and always thought it is a great building.
Bruce, an idea for a video if you haven't done it already. I have looked and couldn't find it. The subject is 'When did St John's Town change its name to Perth, why 'Perth' and why the change?' Towns don't change names very often so there must have been a good reason. Just an idea.
let me say one thing to you Bruce my brother, you have single-handedly peaked my interest in learning about my own history. I was born in Edinburgh. last name Mitchell my dad was born in Aberdeen and lived most of his life in Huntley. the old black and white tourist book about Huntley has my aunt in it as the Girl Guides troop leader. on my dad's side is Allardice Ewan. on my mother's side (Gay) is Gemmell and Shearer. Couldn't be more at least british. as you I probably have a great % of english in me. 😶. wish now I could find out more. great cedit to you my black compatriot 👊
Thank you for this video. I have William Ruthven on my ancestry tree. But the validity of my research I don't really trust. But it is fun to think I might be related to this historic figure.
Many years ago I rowed my four year old daughter across to visit the island fortress where Mary whas held captive. The Stewarts left a lot of descendents in Scotland.

Gotta have one comment: I bet the Appalachians would have been settled, by some one....but there definitely would have been no bluegrass music and that would have been a travesty. Well done! And thank you....again!
@@elendil7 I know Elizabeth. Don't worry, I'm with you sister, but that's a much bigger issue that a single sentence in a video that was already running overtime would allow. Sometimes compromises have to be made
James, The Wisest Fool in Christendom, knew how to survive and he was nae mug! He succeeded in England because of his Scottish training. Pity his son did not have it!
After doing some more research on this a ancestor of mine was named in this conspiracy like Ten Years After the actual events and 3 years after the death of Robert Logan and they literally dug up his bones and put them on trial In 1609, Logan (who was dead) was summoned to appear in court and his body exhumed and laid before the court. With Logan in no position to defend himself, he was found guilty on the flimsiest of evidence and his estates were forfeit. The Logan's were stripped of all their property and many were banished to Ireland and then like eight years later he was exonerated and that the evidence against him was a forgery none of their lands titles or riches were returned
The truth as in most cases is follow the money. The Stuart's/James owed the Ruthvens a large sum of money. All borrowed lent lent to James with expectations of repayment. This was an easy way to avoid ever having to repay it. In the killing of the Ruthvens he was rid of the debt and enriched by their assets. In doing so the remaining Ruthven heirs fled the country according to my families oral history. Had they not done so the entire line would have been terminated by James.
One would have to drink several wee drams of whisky to come up with a tall tale such as this one about the hooded guy with the pot of gold and the treason. Must be true then. The world could have been a much different place today had it not happened.
Perth looks magnificent. Year Covid started was to be our Summer tour of Scotland in our motorhome. Watching these videos has given me so many routes to plan, it has taken the sting out of not being able to travel whilst we wait for normality to resume (I know, that's the least of all our worries).
