Stevie Ray had a basket full of guitar tricks nobody else could do.
Jimi Hendrix wrote this song with beautiful lyrical vocals to go with the great guitar lines, and Stevie has turned his version into a sublime instrumental masterpiece. Both versions are brilliant. And I'm sure Jimi would have been so proud to hear what Stevie did to his song. Now they can both jam in heaven together on their angelic guitars. RIP Jimi and Stevie..
Agree. Not many guitarists would even dare to cover any Hendrix song, but Stevie did it with honor. The only other guitarist I´ve heard to play Little Wing very good is Vidar Busk from Norway. And yes, let them jam in heaven. RIP.
yeah he was a master guitar player, but the band with him, to catch and match his style and follow him when he improvise is more than worth to mention it
Double Trouble were inducted in the Hall of Fame along with him.
Yeah, they were/ are all damn good musicians. And they worked together towards a common goal. Quite frankly Stevie's solos aren't much other than really skilled "showing off" without the bass to nail it down. With it, it's all just magic.
Dude I was literally about to comment on Double Trouble and I read your comment, despite how insanely talented SRV was, Double Trouble do not get enough credit IMO. Dudes could hold a groove with the best of them
They recorded 2 albums with Nuno Mindelis, the song "Stormy Minded Man" is excellent
Also remember that the bassist, Tommy Shannon was bass player for Johnny Winter...check out the genius of the late Johnny Winter on UA-cam if anyone has any doubts. Probably the fastest guitarist of his time.
The man truly was one of a kind. I’ve yet to find another guitarist that pulls that much emotion from their hands (& seemingly without much effort). In terms of technical ability, Stevie seems untouchable to me
Stevie ray vaughan was the absolute best bar none!!
R.I.P. Stevie Ray Vaughan Texas Loves You! 🎸🤘💪😎
Tommy Shannon, Stevie's bass player, has said that whenever Stevie played Jimi Hendrix songs( Little Wing, Voodoo Child Slight Return, 3rd Stone from the Sun, Red House) it was like he went into a trance and was actually channeling Jimi.
This is my absolute favorite Jimi song. I had just gotten into Stevie after a few months prior of having a dream about him. One day I was riding in my dad’s pickup and an interview with SRV comes on the radio and Stevie talked about the recording of Little Wing. He talked about that day in the studio as they were laying down the tracks that it felt like to him Jimi was in the studio with him, flowing through him as he recorded the song! I knew then that Stevie channels him, and the Divine for that matter. Truly a special soul!
Yes, he channeled Jimi's soul, and God's Holy Spirit into that Strat. He was the pipeline that carried the flow straight from Heaven above.
Our brief gift for certain.
Never be another like SRV.
Stevie, the GREATEST player to walk the Earth!
He sure is great but he did learn all this from the master himself, remember Jimi, he was thee greatest 🎸👍🏻
@@michelcyr4232 I disagree, SRV taught himself listening to records and his Brother. True Jimi was a MASSIVE influence on him and Stevie worshiped his playing, however, in my opinion Stevie went LIGHTYEARS ahead of Jimi with natural talent, skill, and playing in general, way beyond Jimi's talent. SRV Was beyond belief as he Mastered the 'Master' .
@@stevew585 there would be no SRV without Jimi
@@ujustgotpwnd123 Thats a matter of opinion, True he was heavily influence by Jimi, however, there were many othersthat influenced him too. I think towards the end he went WAY past Jimi!
@@stevew585 in my opinion Stevie was lightyears ahead in his talent. I'm not saying Jimmy is bad but Stevie is kind of more advanced though
You don’t just listen to this man. He takes you on a journey and you better hold on bc you will hit every emotion.
SRV doesn’t just mindlessly “shred” . There’s a purpose, soul, emotion. I think it was Clapton or maybe BB King who said he never seamed to think about what to play next. It was just there
BB King also said the longer he played, the better he got.
BB King & Clapton both said the same in different words!
It's called "noodling" and SRV never had to resort to it because every note he played was purposeful and intentional! Saw him live 3 times and each were f-ing amazing!
It was Clapton - he said that when listening to SRV play he never sounded 'lost' or like he was trying to think of what to play next, it just came out..
..also Clapton - “I was driving, and ‘Let’s Dance’ came on the radio,” Slowhand is quoted as saying in Chapter 13. “I stopped my car and said, ‘I have to know who this guitar player is today. Not tomorrow, but today.’
- Clapton on the first time he heard SRV
Steven M. It was Clapton who said that on a tour celebrating Stevie Ray in, I believe, 1995...just 5 years after SRV's death. Clapton said "...SRV played from his heart and his mind. He didn't have memorized riffs, for the most part, he just played. Many of us, myself included, will come to a point in our performance when we don't know what riff to play next...but Stevie Ray ALWAYS knew and never seemed to 'run out'." That's the best of my recollection of what Clapton said.
It's a shame that he left this world so soon.
A really unique and talented guy.
He is the GOAT. He played behind his back better than 95% of all guitar players played in front.
100 percent 😁😁
Yep, saw him do it live 3 times!
Our little snowflakes here have no idea they are witnessing one of the all time greats to have ever played an electric guitar - this performance is now legendary ....
I wish Jimi lived and got to witness Stevie Ray Vaughan or better yet share the stage together, RIP to both legends
Stevie's versions of Hendrix' songs are utterly amazing - for me, Stevie's are even better than the originals.
Agree 100%
Don’t talk rubbish.
It's easy to cover songs when you already have the blueprint. Don't get me wrong SRV is one of the greatest guitar players to ever play. but Jimi is the Greatest man the most influential guitar player of all time. His creativity and skills are second to none. He single handedly changed guitar playing forever.
@@joshuawashington209 Hendrix layed the pieces. SRV had to put it together.
This is THE quintessential Little Wing! Voodoo Child is arguably better. Still prefer Jimi's Hey Joe.
The greatest guitarist of all time! Try hus live version of Voodoo Child, Texas Flood or Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland, it will blow your mind!!!
I’m a Testify kind of guy
Agreed bro!
SRV did do things no one else did. He took what had been done and pushed it to an entirely new level. One of the big things that separates him from a lot of blues players is the sheer density of his performances. Most guys play a phrase, sing a phrase. Stevie could go on for days without running out of material.
When you cover the world's greatest guitarist and still somehow mange to make it your own greatest version x2 you are goat...SRV will always be my fav guitarist of all time
No one worked harder than Stevie to wring every last bit of sound possible out of a piece of wood and strings.
Facts
"Stevie Ray Vaughan Land" 👍 Love it!! ❤️❤️👍😎👍
The G.O.A.T. SRV was on a planet that he only could create. No one will ever play the way he did, passion, love, intensity, style, fury. SRV was a true force of nature. Try tin pan alley with johnny copeland live true forces of blues.
I was one of those who had to work hard to learn guitar. That was 58 years ago. And what SRV does is no where near normal. It's really enjoyable to watch someone do what they were born to do. It doesn't even do him justice to listen. You have to watch to get the full effect.
JIMI AND STEVIE RULE ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN !!
SRV is his own "genre". I mean he has his own sound which is distinct.
True that- clearly a Hendrix deciple, but the world has never seen anything quite like him.
Do you think we will ever see anyone remotely like him?
@@willasacco9898 Definitely we will see many new great musicians. Its just harder to find new Love if you already had a big one.
@@vinograd74 Your comment really hits home with me. My wife passed away in July. We were the loves of each other lives.
@@willasacco9898 This is the saddest part of our beings. You lost your wife and i lost my mom in May. We cannot look for "replacement" but we should extend ourselves for others to fill the gap and go on.
My top 3 greatest guitarists covering Jimi H.
1. Stevie Ray Vaughn
2. Frank Marino
3. Gary Moore
You 2 need to see all three!
I did not list songs because it does not matter really which songs these 3 legends could play any Jimi tune and melt your face off.🎸🎵🔥
This is a tribute to the ONE who did it best...Jimmi Hendrix..his biggest influence..Lest we not forget the GOAT
He was such a master of the instrument that he could make simple pentatonics interesting, and that's hard to do.
Great Reaction! Keep looking but you won’t find a better Guitar performance than this on planet Earth!
A LEGEND!!!! NOBODY ELSE PLAYS LIKE STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN!!!!
OMG! You guy’s are the CUTEST couple ever! Love you two🤟🤟
A big part of his sound was due to him using very heavy gauge strings. He had huge hands, and the strength in them to help him make the sound that he did.
I wish I were in "Stevie Ray Vaughn Land". I bet it's an awesome place to be.
ANOTHER GREAT REACTION to my afternoon of binging on y'all!!!!!
That's his closed eye, dancin with his guitar look🤔😎👍
Keep in mind the strings that he's bending so much are 13 gauge. Closer to being cables than guitar strings!
Thanks for this. Stevie just went to another place when he played & invited you along on the journey!
Simply the GOAT
Love your reaction SRV was one of the greats RIP
nope - only him - people will say this artist or that artist but I have not seen anyone else who can work their way up and down a guitar like him - he is truely one of a kind and is sorely missed!!!!
Jimi Henrix original tune. I hope you know.!? If not, you know now😎
There's a version of this song on the Derek & the Dominoes album. That's right: Hendrix, SRV, & Clapton have all played this song.
@@littlejimmy7402 accoring to wikipedia, its of the most covered songs of all time. But Jimi Hendrix wrote it back in 1967
@@littlejimmy7402 Jimi Wrote this song on his 1967 Album Bold is Love.
Jimmy would be proud
Stevie takes you places you have never been.. Love that you can hear the amp humming. Life by the drop my fav.
Srv land is Austin Texas. He literally has monuments there. Every guitar you see on the street there is in his honor. .
This man was one with his guitar. Omnipresent super-collective oneness, if you will. He was one of the best...bar none!
React SRV "Riviera Paradise" in 1989 Austin TX live please
Beautiful song 💖
After watching this tour performance about 9000 times, I just realized something. He does this. Goes to sleep. Wakes up the next day and does it again. Night after night. Every night. For months. That’s insane to think about.
WATCH THE ENTIRE PERFORMANCE. It's is one the greatest guitar lessons, EVER. SRV Live at the EL MOCAMBO
The thing that kills me is that Stevie Ray makes it look like it's so easy to do.
he sang the notes he played. i remember thinking i didnt like blues as a kid and knowing how impactful his death was. summer between 9th and 10th for me. 45 now and love the blues. i think its a natural progression in life. kinda takes some living to appreciate what this music is rooted in
I seen him live twice , it was unreal !
Me too💗
@@susanlilja3743 I saw him in Nashville .
Boston with Fab T-birds, Newport Jazz fest, RI.
@@susanlilja3743 Cool , bet that was a great show !
Love love love me some SRV. I really like y'all's reactions, too.
He was a complete badass! Just another amazing talent from the GREAT state of TEXAS! R.I.P. to a lone star state legend! Keep rockin’ it out! 🤘🏻❤️
As she said. "This is smooth though". I recommend. I am the highway. Smooth groove. 😎
Later in set same venue , Texas Flood you could only dream about being that good !
BTW - I was a guitarist since I was 7 years old (and I'm the same age as SRV) and when I saw Stevie in Daytona, I think in 1985, I said to myself, "No one will EVER be that good." I laid my guitars down that day...by the way - your lady is REALLY good looking!
Hey, don’t lay your guitars down!! 😂 He’s a once per generation talent! We need just good players too 👏🏼 I just bang on my guitar like a monkey, but love it !
@@stevenm.6886 I still have a couple of guitars left. A Takamine acoustic that is as good as a Martin my old Gibson SG. The SG is the best guitar I have ever played.
The end part after he adjusted his amplifier is straight from Jimi Hendrix's rendition of The Star Spangled Banner "rockets red glare" licks.
Did you know SRV played on David Bowie's hit album Let's Dance?
welcome to Stevie Ray Vaughan Land! enjoy the ride! i also like your into - outro, is that you guys? love it!
SRV... the GOAT. Dude made the incredibly difficult look and sound so effortless and natural.
The GOAT.
He is one of a kind he's expanding every note to make it unique to him.
Have you noticed that he never looked once at his guitar? This and most performances were with his eyes closed. That's how good he is....
Stevie, Stevie, Stevie, the best, a connection to heaven.
Stevie was the elite master of the master level guitarists.
I love all these couple reactions to stevie....its like you could loose ya girl to stevie 👍👏
The GOAT.
Dang right he is "from another planet . The planet Texas !
Don't forget that the song was written by Jimi Hendrix and had very cool lyrics. Also, many of the harmonies, etc. that Stevie Ray played were on the original Hendrix recording. I am not taking anything away from Stevie Ray by saying that, because he took it to a fantastic level. Stevie Ray played another Hendrix song, "Voodoo Child", and played some guitar in that song that just tore your head off. Both of these fantastic artists were taken from the world far too soon.
And I just watched you're reaction to Jeff Healey and your in for a very very nice treat my newfound friends . I've never seen anyone play the guitar like he does.... how do you cord a guitar like that ? Can't wait to see you react to Jeff doing Hurricane by Neil Young ...Wow 😲 Is all I could say the first time I saw him do it . So now I'm going to spend quite a bit of time surfing through your reactions and watch everyone that I know and Love to hear . And I get so Amped up just watching your wife when she just looks and thinks the exact same thing that everyone else does the first time they watch these guys . She's just got the best attitude towards everyone and this world really Needs some NICE Spread around for a change instead of all the negativity that's ruling our country and world right now . And here's the one that I've been waiting to talk about. Beth Hart is the most Amazing singer that I have ever listened to and I'm talking about Men and Women both . She runs cold chills all over me even before she starts singing 😂 Because I know whatever she does she brings it with every fiber of her being. She reminds me of Tina Turner and Janis Joplin and Joan Jett having a daughter and her doing Acid and singing 😂 The most Amazing Voice that's ever been in my opinion !
Buena reaccion!!!. y SRV!!!!. ES EL MEJOR DE TODOS!!!!!.
Jack white made the statement he said you have to pick a fight with the guitar and to me as smooth as SRV sounds it seems like he beating his guitar up to get those sounds. Coolest thing ever👍
SRV ~ 🎸🐐
You're right, he was an alien 👽.
Had he not been killed, I believe he would be considered the best of all time, ahead of Hendrix. Inmho. I heard it said that if Jimi was king, Stevie is the only true heir to the throne. Either way, Stevie was definitely from another planet.
Stevie, of course, was so humble that he'd name 20 guys he thought were better than himself.
Stevie was a one of a kind talent, listen to Jimi Hendrix’s version of little wing and somehow Stevie manages to keep the little wing sound to his version of it🎸🎸.
That's my Austin TX boy. Genius!
From Oak Cliff, my home first, then to Austin....He is the GOAT to me....Imagine...living 20 minutes from SRV and Dime Bag
I was able to see Stevie just once...also a side note...saw Pantera when they all wore make-up and was a 80's hair band.
I saw him in 1979 he was very personable at the beginning of the concert and at the end period but during he was in his own world. You could tell that he was in what you called Stevie Ray Vaughan land. Each and every song was planned out exactly the way he wanted it and it was magical
There were, and are great guitarist...but He is the GOAT! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
No matter how many times I hear this (and it's been many), I still can hardly believe it.
I was around for the first Little Wing, now I've fallen in love with it all over again.
Love seeing you guys appreciate the GREAT STEVIE RAY VAUGHN 💜💜💜Thank you for doing this great one RIP STEVIE RAY VAUGHN
Take a close look at Stevie Ray's guitars sometime. He played them so hard and so often many are down to bare wood will all of the shellac worn off.
Wow that sounds just awesome, thanks from the UK, loving your videos, just spotted your Eddie Van Halen one, I'm not gonna get much work done today, keep them coming 👍
He was the best of the best out there and still smokes 95% of guitarists off their stages.!
Yes he is the GOAT! Forever. 💯👌🏼 And YES you are beautiful!!! 🇳🇴🔥❤️❤️
Love that you picked up on the SRV Stank Face! Essential to Stevie’s playing.
Sounds like you happened to stumble upon the most savage guitar player in human history.
Just to really drive home just how good he was this is what some of the worlds best guitar players said about him.
Eric Clapton
"We played on the same bill on his last two gigs. On the first night, I watched his set for about half an hour and then I had to leave because I couldn't handle it!. I knew enough to know that his playing was just going to get better and better. His set had started, he was like two or three songs in, and I suddenly got this flash that I'd experienced before so many times whenever I'd seen him play, which was that he was like a channel. One of the purest channels I've ever seen, where everything he sang and played flowed straight down from heaven. Almost like one of those mystic Sufi guys with one finger pointing up and one finger down. That's what it was like to listen to. And I had to leave just to preserve some kind of sanity or confidence in myself."
Joe Satriani
"To be around him was to be in the presence of this enormous musical energy that was combined with a very humble, soft-spoken guy. But when he played, it was a roar. He just roared like a lion when he played guitar. I remember doing the gig with him that night and I saw that as soon as he hit the stage he was reaching for the magio moment, right from the beginning. He just strived to create incredible music every time he played the guitar. Very few people actually care that much about what they're playing, but he was just so totally into it."
Steve Winwood
"If there's a difference between a musician and a performer, Stevie was a musician. He was interested in the purity of his sound. He thoroughly mastered the intricacies of his instrument, and he really knew how to make his guitar speak. But when we jammed, he wouldn't try and hog all the solos. He was a very generous player"
When artist and instrument become one!! He was a genius!!
@The Wolf HunterZ, I'm nearly 60 now. I have a guitar, started playing at age 13. I have problems these days with terrible stiffness in my hands and fingers (wished that happened everywhere at my age, LOL), so I don't get to play a tenth as much as I once did in my younger days. I know this though, anything that Stevie played that night from the El Mocambo show that my guitar hears makes it get up by itself and smokes a cigeratte like it just finished getting laid or something, LOL.
It always seems to me that Stevie opened up a channel to God and the music just passed through him.
Jimi the Geneious is what his name really is ! If you have never heard of Quinn Sullivan then you should watch that young man really do this song more justice than most other people have !
Simply a beautiful piece of music 🎶
No one compares...still! Miss him everyday.
SRV was a musical genius! Blues Rock is the genre, and some of the greatest guitar players came from this genre! IMHO.
I've got to play with 2 of the greatest ever to play the Guitar. Only one could play this song, the other could Cover any Heavy Metal song. They both would say SRV was the GOAT..... **And or RANDY RHOADS
Another fantastic Hendrix cover from SRV and Double Trouble....You need to be a Hendrix fan to get the amp fiddling end...
He is "Bananas: on guitar. He plays with so much soul. He guitar sings like no other. He has this coolness and is so smooth.
Oh Good Lord✌️
There are five guitar Masters gods ever to live Stevie Ray Vaughan Jimi Hendrix Carlos Santana Eric Clapton BB King
Open tunings (allows you slap the guitar4 and have it sound OK). He is a legend though SRV RIP.
I guess it would fall on deaf ears to talk about the 13 gauge strings he's playing. Listening to and looking at your reaction, it's as if you're watching a Popeye cartoon, and are amazed at Popeye's explosive strength from eating spinach.
Hahaha right on!! They dont really know how hard it is to do what he's doing. Just the physical aspect. Monster hands!
Some of us know what that means ... he's playing cables not strings
Girl just feel it, boy fully don’t understands what going on, and pause in most Inappropriates moments 😂
