When Albert King puts his arm around you and says "You're the only white boy with a black daddy." and begins introducing you as his son... You are the GOAT. Period. End of story.
That song from SRV was an homage to Jimi Hendrix mother. Notice he didn't sing because only Jimi could sing to his mother. He also played small parts of other JH songs because he was SRV influence to play for other people.😊
There has never been another guitarist that had a flow like SRV. I always wondered if the well would run dry at some point but he'd reach down in that bag o tricks and there it always was. The man stood on the shoulders of all he idolized before him...
Can you imagine playing a Jimi Hendrix song and have your eyes closed the whole time and still play it to perfection? That's what sets SRV apart from all of the others...
This show is one of the best live performances ever recorded. I've said it before, but it is well documented that Stevie was very high on cocaine for this show, which explains a lot of the sweating, and yet it is still one of his best shows ever!
Do a UA-cam lookup for Jimi Hendrix Little Wing solo. SRV's cover is essentially a faithful rendition of Jimi's solo but embellished with Stevie's style. Both are fantastic and hearing Jimi's original (improvised) version shows just how great he was and why SRV admired him so much.
I know you guys would enjoy Stevie Wonder and SRV doing Superstition together. It's amazing. So much to enjoy when you think of either artist. SRV was simply special🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

Thanks for doing his reactions.@@AirplayBeats
You guys noticed how Stevie doesn't let up at this show. Before the show, Stevie actually said that he was gonna go out there and 'Not let up.' It happened that way for real. Chris and Tommy said that they didn't even have a chance to grab a drink between songs. Stevie never played from a Set List - it was all from his gut and heart and the guys were right there with every beat flawlessly backing him.
Yes, we should never forget Double Trouble kept up with this madman without ever missing a beat. They were righteous brothers to a great Texas bluesman.
Yes he did in one tour he was on tour with Jeff Beck and they demanded he use one and he said that was so restrictive and did not like it at all he likes to just go on stage and play whatever song he wanted .
Not going to lie. I started following you guys a little while ago for your reviews on SRV. But, this is the one song I was waiting for you to see. It's always good to see a younger generation show respect and appreciation for what was done in the past. You guys have a blessed day.
This is Jimi Hendrix's song, and Stevie absolutely did it justice; I like the fact he made it purely instrumental; it seems more respectful that way. He made the guitar sing ❤
True. This is one of Hendrix's signature songs, and SRV didn't deviate very much from the original arrangement. Very respectful, but oh so soulful. When I was a kid I slagged SRV for being a Hendrix clone, but very quickly I recognized the error of my ways. Unfortunately, soon after I realized how great he was, he passed. One of the few regrets I have in my life is never having seen him live.
you totally missed the transition after Little Wing....into Third Stone from the Sun....which is also a Jimi song.....about aliens arriving to earth and the battle that happens...makes missile sounds with his guitar. A must listen for SRV fans.
Ya STV is a real person. And he was a prodigy. A real person who existed. He possessed phenomenal intellect and knowledge in order to perform his craft. Art. He was a real person who greatly enjoyed jimmy Hendrix. He deserves peace. Like anyone ❤my heart stands with you still. I saw you play when I was born into this world. You showed me love
This is another Jimi Hendrix song, but Hendrix version had lyrics. Stevie made this song, his own removing the lyrics, and just taking that entire guitar solo to a whole other stratosphere!! Stevie Ray Vaughan recorded an instrumental version in 1984, although it was not released until 1991 after Vaughans death his interpretation of the song won the 1993 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
At this El Mocambo show Stevie moves from Little Wing right into Third Stone from the Sun, which is mind blowing to say the least. Highly recommend y'all get back to this and watch the two together. If you like Stevie, It's not to be missed. seriously. Another great reaction to SRV. thanks for keeping it going.
Someone has probably already mentioned this subtle homage to Jimi on his primary signature SRV guitar. He mounted a left handed tremolo on his right handed Strat. The tremolo bar is supposed to be on the bottom of the bridge. Thx guys
watching and listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan, acting is breathtaking, try: Sweat Home Chicago 1990 with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan (his brother) and Robert Cray! It's good to listen to good music in good company!
Both SRV & Prince seemed to speak better through guitar than anything else (yet both could sing). Glad y'all reviewed this song. A relative, who introduced me to SRV (and I introduced Prince to them), said they want this song played at their funeral (hopefully MANY years from now). That's how deep SRV reached into the soul.
Jimmie Vaughan Stevie‘s older brother” said “when we were young I showed Stevie how to get high” and drunk” decades later” my little brother taught me how to get sober” Stevie was sober for over four years prior to his helicopter crash....
The thing about Stevie is he never played anything the same way twice. So when you explore other performances of the same sings you are always in for a treat. His brother used to say that he never even played anything the same way once, haha. Oh and yes, this is a Jimi Hendrix song. He also covered Hendrix's Voodoo Chile.
For years, YEARS, this was the song I woke up to. I had a cd player alarm clock. Hahahah people would always ask why I was happy everyday. This was also played every morning by Walton and Johnson at the beginning of their radio broadcast.
The GOAT, saw him 6 times between the ages of 13 & 17 (1986-1990)all by myself, because no one I knew them was into him. Boy, are those people kicking themselves now. PS, I'm a recent subscriber, and I love you guys.
I saw him live 8 times. Last time I left the lake to go see him, no one would go with me so I went alone. He played with BBKing and Joe Cocker at an outdoor concert in Dallas in June 1990 and died 2 months later. That was the best concert I’ve ever seen.
Oh man, what a killer choice - I love the Hendrix original, but for me SRV's take on this song is one of the greatest things I've ever listened to. He used to play it live all the time but never released a recorded version while he was alive - but one was released on the posthumous 'The Sky Is Crying' album, and it's just under 7 minutes of sheer musical bliss, amazing stuff. Stevie is incredible of course, but Double Trouble is every bit as good along with him - if you listen to it with headphones, you can hear Stevie's amp buzzing. Incredible stuff for sure. Peace and love from Canada!
I'm just gonna keep posting this 👉 Y'all really need to watch : Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan-"Look at Little Sister ". I'm not even kidding about that performance. It will blow your mind. Stevie Ray allows Jeff to shine ✨️! It's a once in a lifetime must watch. Jeff was blind BTW. 🥳💯💣💥

Stevie was so naturally talented at staying in the pocket and had beautiful style of brute force and simultaneously delicate navigation around the instrument that was so unique.
Yes, it's Jimi's song and it has lyrics (from Axis Bold as Love album). Eric Clapton said that Stevie was a channel for his guitar, the music just played through him. I watched a guitarist try playing with 13 gauge strings like Stevie used and he couldn't do it; hurt his hands too much, too hard to bend.
The incomparable SRV and his fabulous band Double Trouble. All great musicians and I agree that Stevie Ray’s slower tunes really bring out the soulfulness and passion of his playing. I saw him on 3 separate occasions and his shows were fantastic.

Fun fact. Stevie's older brother Jimmie Vaughan, from The Fabulous Thunderbirds, had a band in the '60s that toured with Hendrix around the south and rumor is the wah pedal that Stevie used he got from his brother, who in turn had bought it from Jimi Hendrix while on tour. I don't know if it's true but I like to think it is that Stevie played Hendrix covers with his own wah pedal. It is possible.
I saw this same in Detroit on this same tour in 1983. I also saw him about a dozen times after that every time he came around the Detroit or Toledo area. He was the best. He is my number one. I like your guys reactions the best. You do it so intelligently. Keep it up
Stevie’s the perfect jump off point to checkout other popular guitarists of the Classic Era. Frank Marino (and Mahogany Rush), Robin Trower come to mind, as both gained influence through Hendrix as well. Keep killin it guys. 🤘😎
In 1983 one of my friends came over, he said you gotta check this out. There were 3 or 4 of us, all rock and roll fans. It was VCR tape of this recorded performance. None of us had heard of SRV at that point. We watched it, blown away by the entire performance. I loved it all but really remember Texes Flood and Lenny as the two that just blew me away for different reasons! Been a fan ever since! Nice reaction guys!
hard to beat his live performances from El Mocambo but i've mentioned to yall before, check out his live perfromances of "leave my girl alone" and "tightrope" at austin city limits. Hes at the peak of his powers.
At the end when he went over to the Amp they were playing just apiece of (1983 a merman I shall turn to be) by Jimi Hendrix. A long instrumental type song with VERY COOL LYRICS. A very very good song I recommend to listen to while chilling with good earbuds. Like your podcast 👌
Hello there guys! I've been checking out all of your SRV reactions this week. I didn't find two of his biggest hits in your library. "Pride and Joy" and "The House is Rocking". I've put on all notifications and am hoping to one day soon you gentlemen can react to either or both of those hits.
That is SO SRV, but it is also SO Jimi Hendrix !!! I remember when Jimi rolled this song out - how in love we all were with what he was doing. I'm glad for how much Stevie deffered to him in his live shows. I think all my life i was EXACTLY where i was meant to be... how the hell was i not at the El Mocambo this night for this show?!!! Ha! Thanks so much for what you're doing -
When I first began playing I must have listened to the studio cut of this twice a day. Rest of the album too, but this one always got a second run. Mindblowing guitar I haven't spotted you reacting to yet, and I'm not sure I suggested: Steve Vai (rhymes w/Hi) - Tender Surrender. That was in a similar rotation to SRV in my collection

This song has been done by many people but Stevie Ray is the best version
He is the only person I know of who took a Hendrix track and made it his own.
Let's take a moment to appreciate Double Trouble, one of the best damn rhythm sections ever. 👍
The only one who can do a jimi cover and bring it honor.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - "Leave My Girl Alone" (Live @ Austin TX)
We all are born with a soul but how many did God give Stevie?
Shout out to his band, who never knew where Stevie Ray was going (he never played anything the same way twice) and had to be ready to follow him.
He hits all the right notes , he changed the direction of my guitar playing
Yep that's what Albert Said. Albert loved Stevie Ray and he felt the same bout Albert
