    •  5 років тому +4

@@saschaschneider6355 1st- Gary Moore was a GREAT player/Artist. His Blues Alive album is phenomenal. Could he have played Jimi's Music ?.... quite possibly....but he didn't choose to (publicly anyway). Jimi has been covered by other prominent Artists (Little Wing being 1 example) The Music industry has given us so many GREAT guitarists over time each unique in their style & Greatness. There really is no 1 great guitarist, they all were Great in their own way BUT it was SRV with Double Trouble who put their stamp on Voodoo Child with a Texas flavor and his unique (natural) style afforded him that Honor in a truly dignified fashion. Combining BOTH the playing & vocal ability, I really believe no one could have covered that song to the level that SRV & DT did. Gary Moore was GREAT ! But it was SRV who stepped up when it came to Jimi.

Only one person has ever won a Grammy for covering Jimi Hendrix: Stevie Ray Vaughan. Think about that for a minute... someone won a Grammy covering the untouchable Jimi Hendrix. That's insane. If you had to say one thing about him definitively, it's that SRV is the most underrated guitarist of all time. All we hear are the same 3 studio tracks on the radio over and over again... but nobody knows about his impressive live body of work, his jazz offshoots, his acoustic performances, collaborations... hell, the fact his lead guitar work practically gave Bowie's 'Let's Dance' album it's signature sound. Nobody knows his TRUE genius. I'm working on a project that aims to change that...

Yeah, when Stevie played, everyone stopped what they were doing and just stared in awe. You need to do a reaction to his live version of Voodoo Child during his Austin City Limits show in 89' I do believe. It's just as every bit mind blowing as this song. When you have guitarists like Clapton saying they just can't do what he does, that's saying something.

One of the amazing things to watch during this video are the close ups of his left hand. He plays much heavier gauge strings than almost anyone ever put on a guitar, and he completely manhandles them. John Mayer guessed he would only last a few minutes bending strings this heavy.

  • @quentinmichel7581
    @quentinmichel7581 5 років тому +4

An additional FYI about SRV & his music... Stevie had freakishly strong hands/fingers and strung his guitars with the thickest gauge strings available; I understand before the strings he wanted were commercially available he used piano strings.
That's why he waa able to wring such incredible sounds from his axe... you can hear the strings "protesting" as he manipulates them. They were so heavy that virtually no one else could play the instrument.
One last thing: he didn't sing during Little Wing because it was an instrumental. Jimi didn't sing during his version either.

Sistah, your reaction was perfect. You don't hear SRV play, you FEEL it. When you watch him, you're seeing someone channel the blues, not just play them. He was intense, fierce, technically proficient but also quite one-dimensional. But you are right, everybody has the right to have their preferences even though I will never understand why someone would pick SRV's Voodoo Child over Jimi's Royal Albert Hall or Berkeley version and his Little wing ( which I really love) over Jimi's studio and Royal Albert Hall version. Totally respect your view wolf. That was well articulated. Except, I would argue, he's up there past most blues guitarists.
Honestly, Clapton doesn't do much for me, as a guitarist. He's called slow hand for a reason.
SRV brought feeling, speed, and amazing technique.

    You mention Richie Valens...
Not only him died that day.
Both Big Bopper and Buddy Holly shared the same flight as Richie and died in the same crash.
This day; February 3, is by many considerd as "the day Music died", and mention in Don Mcleans song "American Pie", which has been covered by many… Most famous? Madonna i Guess?

Stevie played this show at the El Mocambo nightclub up in Toronto, Canada, if memory serves, I believe back in 1983, and I would still argue to this day it's the greatest entire set ever caught on film of him live while Stevie was still alive. Every song he did that night was absolutely epic and off the hook! If Hendrix himself had been alive to see Stevie's performances that night of his two songs "Little Wing" and "Voodoo Chile", there's nobody that would tell you faster than Hendrix himself that Stevie Ray had just taken those two songs to a further rock from the sun than even he himself could've ever taken them in my very humble opinion. Jimi Hendrix will always be a legend, but Stevie Ray Vaughan's talent will forever be remembered as an absolute freak of nature, and trust me when I say there's most definitely a big difference. I doubt we'll ever see Stevie's likes again, at least not in my lifetime.

The sweat is because that was a time in his life he was on a heavy amount of whiskey and coke. He had a bad drug habit. He eventually got clean but I argue you his high performances are so much more gripping

How could u not like the BLUES? So much emotion and truth. I wasn't even gonna listen 2 u speak abt Stevie and his superb version of Little Wing. I read a few comments, and it seems ur woman thete digs it, so I'm gonna go back and watch her. But seriously, dude, something is wrong w/u if u can't dig blues. I have never heard anyone say that, young or old. Also, I stood about 10 feet away from Stevie at his last show, the nite he died. He is wonderful at communicati g w/ those of us up in front
    Miss him all the time
Try 2 widen ur horizons. Also, blues is great makin love music

SRV will forever be an icon of Texas blues and the master of the Stratocaster. I was privileged to have seen him live several times and to have been friends Cutter and Peggy Brandenberg who spent years with Stevie on the road and shared many personal stories of their time spent with Stevie in our conversations.
