Austin, TX
1989
The legendary Reese Wynans on keys. He now plays with Joe Bonamassa's band.
Absolutely! 👌
Chris Layton is with Kenny Wayne Shepard :)
Is that really Reese? Watched him play a dozen times and didn;t recognize him but should have recognized his keyboard.
Props to his guitar tech. Amazing guitar switch.
Rene Martinez is his name, did an amazing job here
The GOAT
You'll go nuts over Stevie and Jeff Healy doing this together live.
Absolutely the best ever guitar and Reese on the keyboard
The version of this song featuring Canadian guitarist Jeff Healey is amazing!
Jeff Healey “Angel Eyes” is one of the most amazing songs! Jeff Healey was such a lovely, talented soul❤️ This would be an awesome song to react to🙏🏼
I like that version too. But, Stevie Ray holds back on that performance. I know he did that to allow Jeff to shine, and I understand that. Jeff was amazing in that performance though.
I 100% agree 👍
Anything that Jeff Healey ever done was beyond Amazing ! First time I heard Jeff back in the 80s it blew me away so bad that I couldn't sleep ! He's in my top 5 guitarists along with SRV and Joe Bonamassa !
Guitar God!
Stevie smiled so much once he got sober. He said he missed so much. He could always play my favorite guitarist . His complete personality came out it showed. He started going out off the stage. Most humble and respectful person. RIP your music lives on. In your words people don't die their souls are always with us. Stevie didn't like set lists. He just played. Listen to Life Without You Capitol Theater. 😀
Watched him tune up and play for 2 straight hours at the veterans memorial Coliseum in Phoenix Arizona at the county fair! $5.00 admission!!! Right dead center front of the stage. Holy holy crap!!! Phenomenal!
Just imagine how he could have changed music history??? RIP, August 27, 1990.
@@lisatonzi9728 I'll always remember the date of SRV's death; it was my son's 10th birthday.
Another amazing thing is that he is the only person I have seen with a soul patch that did not make me cringe.
Best version of this song he ever did :D
I wonder if SRV could have imagined how much joy he would be bringing to people years after his untimely death. Every time I see that guitar switch it just brings a smile to my face. Great reaction, and thank you.
Kudos the guitar tech. He had the guitar out there so fast Stevie didn’t miss a beat.
Lol.. this man would have broken a million strings mid- gig… he just knew how to handle it.. WHAT a player!!
Breaks a string and just plays in a different key until he can get it changed out! Wow!
Greatest guitarist ever that the world saw anyway!
I always felt that the instrument became just an extension of his arm. He felt the music in his entire body. He was the greatest.
Stevie was a gift from god sadly we only had him a short time they guy was on another level pure genius 👍
Hey guys, here is how much I like watching you two; I’m firing up a fat one I just rolled and I’m going to hang with you guy
Renee Martinez was Stevie's Guitar Tech.
Stevie your the fender king
Hope they had a fire extinguisher on that stage, those boys were on fire.
Great video and assessment / reaction.
Chris Layton-drums and Tommy Shannon-bass were in a band called ARC Angels with Doyal Bramhall Jr. And Charlie Sexton, great album.
Love watching you.two reactions
Love this’❤
Just a reminder he is playing rhythm too!
I got to see SRV in 89 and 90 in St . Louis, MO. He was incredible as you know, and he played so hard that in both concerts he broke strings. If you ever look you can see that his hands are just huge, and he used 12 ga. guitar strings. His drummer Chris Layton is with Kenny Wayne Shepherd which you've seen, and Reese Wynans the amazing keyboard player is with Joe Bonamassa. All are incredible musicians and each of them got there time in concert to melt our faces. I dig your channel and look forward to more reactions. PEACE
I saw him 3 times in Phoenix in the mid 80s. He left such a mark on my soul. As for his fingers, he took on a Jimi trait and that was using his long thumb to wrap around the neck.
@@cristyrawks6325 I know what you mean, the last time I saw Stevie was July 15 1990 aproximently 1 month before the horrible helicopter crash. We lucky to have gotten a chance to see him in concert.
I get a kick out of watching people discover SRV for the first time. Take care sister.
PEACE
@@hippiejoe969 Yes Hippie, we were blessed by so many artists that just don't exist anymore back in our day. There are bands and artists that are trying to make a comeback in our complicated rock world, Scorpions, Styx, etc and young rocker bands who are working at bringing it all back; case in point, Liliac. But it's just not the same vibe, is it? The 60s-80s rock was just special with the feel, the trip, or journey, etc....no words I guess can describe it huh? sigh....
@@hippiejoe969 both of those shows are on UA-cam, if you didn't know! Audience shot video. Quality is pretty good as well!
@@csi2448 Hey brother, I did not know that. I'll have to look that up, and relive the experience. I need to look up other great concerts that I attended. St Louis is a great city for concerts, every major tour usually came through and I attended. The Internet can be a awesome tool. Thanks so much for the info my friend.
PEACE
Stevie was smooth as butter 🎶🎸
you can hear the crowd cheering that smooth ass guitar switch!!
When a guitar has the initials SRV on it…count on the fact that the strings are gonna be pushed beyond their limits.
Man oh man that piano! If I didn't break a finger years ago I would have stayed with piano lessons. Wish I could play like that. Love it. Smooth guitar switch.
Great raw rock and roll.
That guitar change was amazing. . If SRV and his guitar tech ever decide to become Formula-1 pit crew, they could proably get the current record for a pit-stop down from the excessive 2.4 seconds to about half a nanosecond.
0'32" -0'34" 💫❤ The piano keyboards behind is amazing
Yessss the kids finally finding the goat on guitar....guitar check on youtube....so glad got to live it realtime.... Austin city limits... Stevie Ray Vaughn..
Miss him so much..... Guess what kiddos.....he listened to vinyl record and practiced on his guitar..... Look up documentarys..
Break a string and not miss a beat...because he was the goat!!!!
YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!!
Yes! This is cool. Love Stevie.
They call that, the “boogie woogie “. Great piano playing.
Not only break a string but on a strat that changes the tension across all the strings. Have to play around the broken one, and try to compensate for tuning issues in the bends.
I'm happy and relieved that you didn't interrupt Reese Wynans during his solo. It's a law in Texas that if you, do you could be extradited from your state or province.and throw the 'book' at you. Careful out here, kids.
All that greatness in one band the bass lines are exceptional, the drummer is perfect
Greatest to ever do it.
It doesn’t get any better. I’m always happy to this performance and sad at the same time. What we lost but what we still have.
Reese Wylans On keys is the best I’ve ever heard! Stevie got introduced to Reese when they used him as a studio musician.
This entire band is composed of VIRTUOSOS on each and every instrument in the combo. So wonderful to hear AND watch!!! Throw in a dynamite equipment team and you've got a great CHOREOGRAPHED performance! So smooth, musically and mechanically.
Stevie's Piano Player Reece Wyans now plays with Joe Bonamassa.
He and his band were tremendous…Love the respect you two show on all your reactions. If you have not done “ Crossfire” and “ Can’t Stand the Weather”,try them….awesome in every way.
One of the best Boogie woogie piano players Henry Higgins have fun looking him up
I can tell the difference after he broke the E string he was hitting the B string and while most people would not notice to him it would drive him crazy. He was all about making the sound he wanted.
So that is what a world class musician and a world class blues band can do. Not bad. :) Great reaction!
🪅🎉✌️🙌👏🙌🎸🎶‼️. Great reaction guys! This is such a Boss move. I have seen reactors close their eyes grooving to the music and miss the broken string and guitar switch and never notice anything! Which goes to show don't close your eyes! But kudos and props to the Formula Racing Pit Crew moves by his guitar tech. Couldn't be smoother. Makes you realize how much practice they had cuz Stevie broke a lot of strings bending like crazy. I love every set from this performance. It was in 1989 at Austin City Limits. Can't go wrong with any one from this. Check out " Mary Had a Little Lamb". Yes, the nursery rhyme. Not what you would expect. Keep up the great work🥰🦋✌️
SRV play with the heavy 13ga stings -and they were set high off the neck. Those extremely large and strong hands - especially for a man only 5'-5" tall.
he was using 11s that night.
Attn Young America: Yes, there used to be a thing we once called Music and along with it came various performing Artist we used to call, Musicians!
Love this song. Great reaction.
Amazing at what young people do not know. Have never experienced.
I had to stop in for this triple shot, you both are So Good, and I love your appreciation for this man,who is someone who really stepped up when the music industry really needed a guitar God,I can't even remember how much he influenced me, but it was monumental,on to the next 🤘
yeah move over Eric Clapton!!
In top 3 all time
When he looked over to the side he was looking at his long time guitar tech Rene Martinez. He always had another guitar tuned to whatever song was being played because as it has been mentioned Stevie always broke his strings and Rene was always ready to change out the guitar when needed.
Check out the live in Iowa, The Sky is Crying. Epic...
also look at what he's doing to all the adjustments on the guitar at all times
I have not seen Stevie Ray in real live.. I have seen Jeff Healey.. This song with Jeff is amazing!!! Thank you guys :)
Hey to you both!!!!! I love this reaction. Just watching you both and your reaction to Stevie Ray made me so happy. I love Stevie and am very sad he is gone from this physical world but he is happy as anything up where he is playing them blues with so many others taken from us. Keep doing reactions. You make my days every day... 🎅💓💓💓
RIP Stevie, we miss you so bad :(
its even more incredible that he could break a string, he only used the heaviest guage strings. He must of had fingers of iron
Stoniest fingers in Texas
What is hard to believe is that SRV used 13 gauge strings which are like cables and nearly impossible to break let alone bend and play like he does...the guy was a freak of nature and had talent off the charts. Gone way too soon...RIP
he was using 11s that night.
I don't think most people realize how actually mental that guitar switch was...
Reese Wynans on keyboards. he's fantastic too!
Can you imagine what he would be doing today? Wow
LMAO....You're right...."It's Not Fair"....I was fortunate enough to see them twice...Once at the Texas Flood tour and once on the tour for the "Family Style" tour supporting his brother Jimmy and featuring "The Fabulous Thunderbirds".
Imagine doing all of that playing with .013 gauge strings and high action set on the guitar lol. SRV went as high as .017 gauge but usually played .013"s.
Well, when you're practically the Wolverine of guitarists, you gotta go heavy duty or they won't hold up. :D
he was using 11s that night, not his usual 13s.
SRV ~ 🎸🐐
They added the keys when the 3 of them were so F'd up with alcohol and drugs.. This is after they got sober... SRV had 3 yrs of sober music and gone.. Want to hear true humility? Listen to his AA speech here on UA-cam. That ring on his left hand is his AA ring.
Top dog ❤ the best 👌
All homage to Hank Ballard, the composer and original performer of "Look at Little Sister."
SRV is one of the greatest...but also...I have to give a shout out to a bad-ass guitar tech...
You have to hear SRV and Jeff Haley Look at little sister.
reese wynans (keys) plays with Joe Bonamassa these days you should checkout more live stuff from him
Larry Carlton broke a string at the baked potato and clipped of the two other light strings and played a killer solo on the three base strings....
That would be Rene Martinez his guitar tech
Awesome!!! Still runner up to Johnny Winter though. If you don't believe it...check out Johnny Winter Captured live....Sweet Poppa John.
sorry, stevie is runner up to no man.
I hope you look at Pipeline, this song he did with his brother, you won't believe it )))
So sad SRV left us way too early in a 1990 helicopter crash at only 35. One can only imagine what he would be putting out now! And like quite a few other musicians he couldn't read music, it just poured out of him. Reminds me of a well known thing in engineering. Aerodynamic engineers have studied Bumble Bees, ran every parameter like weight, drag. wing movements and lift etc. Run all the data through sophisticated modeling programs and have PROVED conclusively that they CAN"T fly. The only problem is that Bumble Bees can't read!
Reese the guy playing keyboard is awesome too. I played with joe banamassa aswell when he was older, yall should check reese out i joe concerts too..
Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland he does that double picking for like 2 min.
Roadie level 1000
Stevie’s band mates are still playing with KWS and Joe B among others.
Reese is incredible on keys...chk out him,joe Bonnamossa and Beth Hart collab on Give it everything you Got
Listen to Stevie ray vaughan tightrope live
Please react to lenny in El mocambo it is one of the most beautiful and soulful performance by srv ❤️
Back in my day, every guitar player wanted to play like Jimi Hendrix. Then, every guitar player wanted to play like Stevie Ray. In his genre, I can't think of anyone who has come after SRV that anyone has wanted to play like. smh
You don't pause a video where SRV does the guitar change.
The original Hank Ballard version is brilliant
Rene Martinez. Legend
Are you little sister? Lol
Looks like you could be.
and hes playing on like 10 or 13 gauge strings at that.
was using 11s that night
@@Hal-k8pah ok i obviously wasn’t sure I know they were pretty much bass strings lol
Uggh part 3
Reese Winans on keys,
Reese wynans is a legend. You don’t get a spot in joe bonamassa’s band easily.
Tommy Shannon is also a legendary bass player as well as Chris Layton the drummer.
They both play with Kenny Wayne Shepherd now
That band was so good and tight with each other it is a shame they don’t get some of the credit. They all so good.
Stevie’s best pal Doyle Bramhall had a band called arc angels that he put together after Stevie died that included Tommy and Chris. Check out “livin in a dream”
May not be your type of music but check out Roy Clark on the original Odd Couple show. He could play anything with strings.
