Britain and Japan are currently penning a new military pact to secure greater control in the indo-pacific, and grapple power back from China. This is one of many anti-China pacts floating around at the moment so we'll unpack it and explain what it means.

The name of the Japanese PM is "Fumio Kishida", not "Fume Kishida"
And if you want to go by Japanese naming convention, which the government of Japan is insisting on, his name should be written as Kishida Fumio. Ominous statement around 2:30:
"The integrated review also *signals a change of approach.* Over the last decade UK policy has been focused on preserving the post-Cold War 'rules-based international system' which has greatly benefited the UK and other nations. Today, however, the international order is more fragmented, characterized by intensifying competition between states over interests, norms, and values. A defence of the status quo is no longer sufficient for the decade ahead."
An India, Korea & Japan partnership is much needed as well. Because these are the major countries who will actually have to deal with Chinese Expansionist policies at their borders and EEZ's unlike UK, US, France etc
I do think most of chinas expansionist policies is to secure natural resources in countries and make them available to them due to lack of it in their own domestic market. Basically it aims to make other countries be dependent on china economically and it wishes to import raw materials for cheap for own manufacturing purposes and export them to rich countries or domestic market.
Yeah, Korea working with Japan politically is going to be a major challenge due to WWII and island disputes. However, the new South Korean president Yoon Suk-Yeol has shown more willingness to improve political ties with Japan in order to deal with the hawkish North Korea and China by proxy
Yep, it's odd that India is not involved in any of this. The biggest regional power to stand up to China and nothing from the rest of the world.
Unlikely to be any agreement any time soon with India given their close relationship with Russia.
Don't forget Taiwan as well. That's the only way the alliance could actually contain China.
It's better to add more countries like India or Korea in that military exercise. It's these countries that will face the consequences of Chinese expansion not UK

About time. I'm sure there will be more countries linking up over time.
The only countries joining the US-led anti-China club are the 5 eyes and Europe, plus Japan and India because they are fearful/jealous of China, and want western help in countering China. The rest of the world is more interested in mutual cooperation for mutual benefit with China, than unnecessary confrontation, which benefits no one but the western military industrial complex. Look at BRICS, ASEAN and RCEP. The 21st century belongs to Asia, and the West is on an accelerating decline. When you drill down, and if the West is honest, they oppose China not because it is authoritarian, blah blah, but because they are jealous of China’s phenomenal rise, and the US is fearful of losing their No 1 position to China. Simple as that. All that noble talk about fighting China to defend democracy yada yada is just a sanitised cover for this. Did the West consider human rights and democracy when they destroyed Iraq on the basis of WMD that did not exist? Or waged countless colour revolutions to change democratically elected governments they did not like, at the cost of countless lives? The rest of the world is neither ignorant nor stupid.
@@anchored555 Yes, it just means there are multiple reasons why countries come together, but under a common goal.
@@StraightcheD Countries will only come together if they have a common interest and common goal. The US wants to continue a unipolar world where they are no 1 and get to set the rules for others to follow and boss them around. Only the 5 eyes supports this, and even Europe is chafing at US dominance through NATO, which has led them to the brink of unprecedented energy and economic disaster. The rest of the civilised world prefer a multipolar world where countries deal with each other as equals and with mutual respect. Hence the rise of BRICS, the BRI and accelerating dedollarisation. This is an irreversible tide of history. The West dominated the world for 2 centuries but this is coming to a quick end. Wise is the man/country who can adapt to this change instead of futilely resisting it.

I have my issues with Sunak but I definitely agree with this. China and other authoritarian nations are a serious threat and we have to be able to defend ourselves against them. I wouldn't object to raising military spending either, it's the only language dictators speak.
I mean, doesn't surprise me that imperialist colonialist nations want to raise the military spending and start the gears of war when they feel they might loose control of the rest of the world. That's one thing liberal conservatives and liberal progressives seem to always agree on, keep neocolonialism going strong. And that's why the third world sees more and more how we need China.
China is a threat to US global dominance, don’t forget that there is no good or bad guys in global politics. All countries act in their own interest and often commit crimes to obtain power. The US is no different, for example the millions of innocent lives the US has taken in the Middle East.
I also stand with you. Anyone against China, I support.
What threat? Idiotic sinophobe.
I agree, but I think the UK should start from within. There’s a massive influx of Chinese students to the U.K. every year. There are intelligence reports that say many of them work with the Chinese govt-technically, they’re spies. Still, unis take them by the thousands even though the issue could very well be considered a national security threat. It’s a matter of setting the priorities straight, but I don’t think a security breach is worth the money these students bring. At least make some background checks or something
I heard France are in talks with Japan towards a similar deal. Another RAA in future?very likely.
Nope . France knows its biggest creditor is China
Japan is remerging and they want eyes and power everywhere. Japan's the one gaining power not Britain. France however is different, I'd say France has the best shot at ending up as a continuous power.
Oh, what hath Wolf Warriors wrought.

Id like to hear an example of him taking a stance against China before it was cool here. Which would at the very least be 2018. That's when Trump made it a much more public issue. But if we're talking about politicians taking stances "doing it before it was cool" doesn't mean in response to something that public.
Imagine if someone described themselves as critical of Russian gas if their first public stance against EU gas dependance was in January 2022. When Russia had already pushed up prices a lot.
Agree it seems a bit far fetched to claim 'before it was cool', especially if the 'before' relates to when Trump came to power. The UK-China 'golden age' was a brief period before Cameron/Osborne left in 2016. Many commentators were wary of getting too close to the CCP, and of course it goes back much further. In fact you could say that being 'pro-China' was a short period over the decades that most of us in the West have been wary of China.

Japan has a better economy and actually more global influence than Britain and a better army that wants to double its budget to 105 billion. It's Japan getting powerful here and Japan is the one that's actually militarily and economically stronger
@@TheHolySpiritISgreat I don’t think any Asian nation supports the reemergence of Japan as a military power unless they have selective amnesia. We were all traumatised by Japanese military savagery during WW2. How soon people forget. One of General MacArthur’s main goals was to ensure Japan never posed a military threat again, but they’re trying to undo this now. Once the genie is out of the bottle, it will be too late for regret.
@@anchored555 by Asian power I mean more of economic rather than millitary. I also mean that as more of a competitor to China to ensure the region stays normal but honestly besides South Korea most of Asia has deals with Japan. Phillipines views Japan quite well and Indonesia also does business with Japanese. Not only that but Viet Nam is literally influenced by Japanese foreign expenditure by a lot of money. Like 100+ billion dollars worth of Japanese spending in Viet Nam. By Asian power I don't mean a war monger Japan but more of a helper Japan to regulate interests and moderate powers. If people think Japan is never going to pose a threat that's wrong because Japan eventually will pose a threat whether good or bad.

@@Homer-OJ-Simpson Precisely. Any perceived criticism of the government is met with a torrent of abuse. It's alright for THEM to criticise their government, but the moment a foreigner does, it triggers outrage.
@@paulwally9007 exactly! Ive never met such a big group of people that will not accept any criticism of their government. I really think they have tied Chinese identity with the CCP party.
@@Homer-OJ-Simpson A friend who lived there made a great comparison: criticising the CCP to a Chinese is like criticising Allah to an extremist Muslim. It sets off a tripwire where logic is overridden -regardless of the value of the criticism, regardless of how rational it is, it is met with 'HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT!!!!!!!'
@@paulwally9007 that sounds about right. Seems like a great comparison.
Good
What's the canzuk news
By describing it as *anti-china* you play right into emperor poohs hands. Before he took over the country was doing amazingly well and becoming a key partner in global affairs. There will be nothing left of the place if he is able to continue the childish refusal to back down on zero covid... Only a matter of time before he makes a move on Taiwan as well.
And this is why Japan's economy is crashing. They need to focus on building their country not countering China. How's Chinese people living a good quality of life a threat to anyone? This is colonial mentality.
Sadly, Japan isn’t the only country that still has a colonial mentality in this day and age.
So, what is France up to these days?
Not much aside from the usual de industrialise / de nationalise everything of value. Western Europe is loosing every inch of sovereignty / expertise, they won't have anything of concret value if it keeps going within a few decades. Just see how German renown auto industry when to shit aside maybe for Mercedes.
Feels like the 1920's again. Lol
If the U.K. wishes to contribute to the indo pacific security and prove to be a reliable power that can confront China, it needs to significantly upgrade and size up its military, especially its navy, and at preset that doesn’t seem likely.
UK is still trying to act like a power even though out of UK and Japan, Japan is better economically, and militarily and even tho the JSDF has limitations it's still more powerful than UK not to mention Japan has its companies which have more influence than British counterparts and Japanese cultural power which abolishes anything the UK could have. Many people don't realize it but Japan's navy is blue water enough to face off China and it is also the 5th most powerful millitary and 4th most powerful navy while having worlds 3rd largest economy and influence bigger than the UK has, even tho Japan has population decline its gdp growth and population decline have stabilized so now gdp growth stays within 2 to 4%. This alliance is probably more so Japan has more eyes in more places. It's not the UK gaining power here, its Japan. With Japan wanting a 105 billion millitary budget it's not that hard to see Japan becoming a power that can face off China. As for the UK I dont think they'll do much besides Intel etc.
It still has the fifth most powerful navy, outpaced by USA, China, Russia, Japan respectively but I do agree the uk needs to up spending on military of all branches
I think the UK government needs to solve many many problems in the home country first and foremost. If you follow "Russell Brand" and "George Galloway" channels you'll know what the British people think their government should do right now.
The ccp need to treated in the same respect as Russia.
So... maximum disrespect?
@@kantpredict Say that to Chinese nationals getting targeted by Chinese consulates. I have no sympathy for a country with nationalist ideals.
@@THESHAYMAN95 I meant like the way the West is treaty Russia over it's war with Ukraine. Heavy sanctions, intense distrust and repeated warnings to STFU and stop with their nonsense. That's why these consulates are being investigated for being "police stations" etc.
And crash the global economy?
I'm sorry, but nothing surprises me that the princeling of an Indian businessman signs an anti-China deal. There is not real speculation to made there.
Foregin is a funny brand of gin hey? 😝🤣

I'm glad this diffused web thing is working out. I agree, the US is totally unreliable. Also, it would be nice if countries would stop accusing other countries of bowing to US pressure (as the hub) and accept that sometimes they make their own decisions.
That's just CCP/Russian propaganda as they always claim other countries are just doing things because the US says so. These countries make their own decisions but the CCP doesn't like that narrative.
Totally unreliable? I would have to disagree, it really just depends on the interest of the US just like any other country. Ukraine war is recent example but mostly it just depends on interest and who is in charge at the time.
@@rickjames18 With the current political polarization the people in charge try to swing things in vastly different directions. Two recent examples I can think of are pulling out of the Paris climate agreement and the Iran nuclear deal. Whatever Biden can salvage from those, the next administration will likely destroy.
@@madcow3417 Yes, that's part of the issue as both parties find little to agree on but that isn't new. At least most agree on Ukraine and the China issue. As for Iran, I didn't agree with the Iran deal but it seems like you did? But I agree, it seems like things can change quick with policy so that can be an issue and has been in some situtaions. The two parties need to start working together but things are polarized in the US at the moment. Still, the US would certainly intervene for allies or national interest. I don't believe that is being questioned. Like Taiwan, the US no choice but to protect Taiwan. They may not say so out loud but it would be extremely damaging to let China take Taiwan.
i will never forget how a Singaporean student got attacked 2 years ago because the attacker thought he was Chinese. How are other Asians supposed to stay in the UK with the fear of xenophobia attacks?
