How Japan plans to counter China's military expansion | Interview with Taro Kono
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 чер 2024
- A senior Japanese government minister is warning that democracies must respond to China’s massive military expansion. In an exclusive interview with DW’s Richard Walker, Digital Minister and former Foreign & Defense Minister Taro Kono spoke out about China’s military pressure around the disputed Senkaku Islands, which China claims as its own. He also described the deluge of cyber-attacks and disinformation hitting Japan.
Japan is now embarking on its own military expansion as part of a new National Security Strategy, with close coordination with the United States. Kono explained the thinking behind this major transformation for Japan’s traditionally pacifist stance.
DW also confronted Kono about the controversial Chinese social media sensation, TikTok - which is already banned in India and facing growing calls for a ban in the US and other countries.

This guy answers your question but doesnt really gives you an answer. Hes very diplomatic about it.
There's no possible solutions he could think of on how to counter China, Russia and South Korea even in their planned attacks on his country if he won't stop provoking them. His only
diplomatically option left is to RESIGN. God bless the EMPEROR.
A bit frustrating when you realise they're dodging the question, though.

The fact that he outright says that he's not at liberty to talk about Japan's views on a "Pacific NATO" is VERY interesting because it shows that Japan is possibly interested in going very big in one of the outcomes. It's a standard diplomatic response when negotiations with other countries are involved.
It means that negotiations to form it are currently underway.

@Li Li "Fighting for claims" is what histories' losing countries have done the past 200 years.
Yep, a country with the 'yuge' population, size, and now production capacity like China can always afford to fight a prolonged war of 'attrition', which we can already see with Japan and Taiwan constantly spending resources, to scrarmble figher jets just to protect their turf. So no one can do that all alone, making some kinda NATO-style alliance imperative.

Hi farmer
It's interesting to see DW pushing American foreign policy talking points. But I'm not surprised, They need to protect the "Western Rules-Based Order."
This is not only American foreign policy - it's actually more closely watched by the countries bordering China and inhabiting the seas near to China. USA is only involved because it doesn't want to lose it's spot!
Russia and China tried forming a axis. It's only natural Germany wants to be associated with the allies this time
The eastern hedgemony fell on the 2nd Reich. Nowadays the borders are pre-drawn, international communities are given a series of laws and rules to follow and were expected to solve all our issues through trade and negotiations before war.
Whether Germany wants to get involved or not, it had a moral and logical duty to do as much as it could. Discouraging literal terrorism Its the least it can do and there'd plenty of moral German patriots who just wants the world to thrive to the best of its ability
I hope there will be no major conflicts
I am really curious as to how a world war style conflic would play out today, with the largest population centers containing millions of people, just how can militaries hope to occupy and supress the civilian population, is occupation even a viable strategy?
I think it comes down to whether the next World War can be a total war without a resort to nuclear weapons.
I'm almost afraid to ask what would be strategically easier than just nuking those population centers.
Some sort of AI controlled slaughterbot drone swarm I expect...
It depends on if the people will surrender and what areas are taken first. Most of the far east would just surrender to a few thousand, a good chunk of the intermediate east would surrender in totality after a few skirmishes if the government being replaced calls for a surrender and some chunks of Europe/America will surrender the second the missiles reach the outskirts of their cities while others would be fighting until the last breath
The US, Japan, South Korea and perhaps Taiwan seem well situated for a NATO - style alliance.
Australia too
Add to the alliance:
India
Pakistan
Australia
Vietnam
The alliances could prevent war because nobody will challenge that power house.
Taiwan is part of China.
I'd throw Canada in their too. They already patrol with the American ships in the south Asian Sea.
There was an attempt to mark a eastern “nato” but nobody got on bored both Australia and New Zealand aren’t interested in such a thing and either is Japan.
All these Countries maintain a strong relationship with NATO to begin with, so there’s really no need unless China launches an attack.

@@ideally6849 In fact, Japan is afraid because he understands the crimes he has committed against China, and China is also his cultural mother. He also has racism against China in his heart. He is jealous and envious at the same time, so the Chinese people in the Japanese media are thieves, robbers and liars.
Japan has no strategy and gambles on the national luck at the critical moment. I think he will betray China this time. Lee Kuan Yew once said that Japan will move towards mediocrity and return to the position of historical normality.
@@ideally6849 Why should Japan delete the history of World War II aggression against China? Why does Japan never educate the next generation about this period of history? Because he wants to do it again, so that the people will have no sin. We should know that the Japanese people are innocent, but the rulers of Japan are the descendants of war criminals in World War II.
Japan is a country without resources. Why did it invade China in the Second World War because it wanted to find oil in the northeast of China. Why did it build nuclear power plants? Because he wants nuclear weapons early and soon, this nation is insidious. He will never forget the two atomic bombs of US.
Go Japan! 😁🌹
You must do it together
This guy has internalized the phrase that "loose lips sink ships." 😂😅
Love and support Japan
Japan was a military Power. Japan Colonised Mandsjuria, China War, Taiwan was Japanese, President stil is, Phillipines was Japanese, Indonesia, Korea Birma Malakka Singapore. Japan was a great Power and Japan wants a big Army Again to expand.

I don't know what you did (if anything) but this gentleman shut down mid-interview!
people seem to forget history. why does Japan only have a self defense force again? right, they got nuked and lost the war. why did they get nuked you ask?right, they invaded its neighbors and took their land.
China is so strong that japan needs us protection for this
Yes
chinese bot
with their population difference it would be embarrassing if they weren't. It's also embarrassing that china has 4 times more people than the US but has a weaker economy and military lmao.
