If I could, I would have you as a hologram to advise me whilst dressing in the morning, shopping, going out for lunch or dinner or requiring advice on a topic of style, manners, etiquette ......well everything to do with being a gentleman!
A Gentleman stays in shape Mr. Gazette. I really wish more of the classier gentlemen here would pay more attention to their physical health. That is the one thing that shines and of which, money can't buy. It shows a man's commitment and professionalism, when one is attentive to his own physical well being.
I don't think most men aspire to have their shoulders be as wide as their hips, most men want their shoulders to be wider than the rest of their body, as in an inverted triangle.
It's such a change to get advice from a guy who's built like me. You've done away with a lot of the "I couldn't wear that" reaction I get from most men's style advice.
It's refreshing to get style advice from a guy with a similar body type as myself. I have the wide hips and big thighs as well, even got a sloping shoulder on the same side lol. (Btw mine got that way from wearing shoulder bags always on the same side for a few too many years, so it got compressed slowly over time. Dunno if you have a different reason for yours being that way, but thought I'd just mention it just in case you dunno why your shoulders are uneven, then this could be a reason for that.) Difference with my body type though is that my other shoulder does not slope at all and my chest is small. But over all I think what fits you would generally look good on me too. So whenever I like something you're wearing I don't have to overthink if it could look good on me as well. One thing though: I've always found that belts actually help make my hips look narrower, but only if I wear the belt in my waist or otherwise above the widest point. Because as my waist is slimmer, adding width to it takes away from the width of my hips. Waistcoats also have a similar effect, giving my body a more rectangular appearance. Usually jackets fit me off the rack, but pants and longer waistcoats are a whole different story. Getting clothes that fit me would have been much more expensive if I hadn't learned how to sew.
This is to be watched over and over and over and over again... Even when I watch it all there is the other videos along the way... If these don't make me look dapper nothing else will!
I found your channel as I need to replace a suit I gave away since I gained 45 lbs. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has problems buying clothes off the rack but blazers are not made for anyone with a big chest and normal waist. Don’t get me started on pants where I need to go up 2-4 inches to get them to fit in the thigh. This is manageable for street clothes but business formal clothes actually need to fit well.
I love the 30's style. I am trying my best to copy it with "big" blazers and wide chinos (mostly black and navy), but here where I live (Norway) there are no tailor that can make me a suit like that so I'll have to go to places like England or America to get one. Makes me sad but, that is how Norway works
I wish the Gentleman's Gazette guys had time to research recommended tailors around the country. My cousin has a personal shopper that works for him. A video on that would also be helpful.
My body type can be difficult at times. My overall shape is rectangular but I've got some extra padding in the chest and belly area. I also have thicker thighs and a fuller seat. It's a pain to find clothes that flatter me.
2.48 My friend, I haven't commented on youtube videos in years but this time I had to. You said your right shoulder is higher than the left, this is not natural, it's not genetics. Being wider on one side than the other is genetics, being higher means you've been leaning on the right shoulder more and the hip alignment is no longer level. You can correct this by seeing an oesteopath. I've done this plenty of times. They will straighten your hips which will bring your shoulders down again and make it level. They'll also correct the spine. You can actually do stretches to see if this is true, for example your toe might reach further down the other when lying down with the feet facing forward/down. One of the benefits of keeping fit, you can change things of your body. I had the same problem thinking it's genetics because bodies aren't suppose to be symmetrical however this can be corrected.
Everyone has asymmetries and trying to correct them is pointless as they aren't a bad thing and it's very difficult to correct. Osteopaths are basically charlatans who are scamming you. I'd recommending checking out Pain Science to fully understand this sort of thing. www.painscience.com/articles/structuralism.php
Ovals can pull off double breasted really well in my opinion, it gives you a large more square profile that is rather commanding in presence. Depends how big you are but if you are an oval dont rule out double breasted
Inverted Triangle and Trapezoid are basically two different types of an athletic body. Personally not muscular but I do have an athletic body and it’s still hard to find clothing for me since I need to tailor the hip area and arms for button-ups
I love this channel for all the right reasons but also every intro Sven Raphael does it’s so homie “welcome back to the gentleman’sss ggggazzette” lol every time
How do you find a good tailor? And know which tailor is good? (I'e had serious issues finding a good tailor, but I can't tell if that is because every single tailor I've ever met are foregners and I just can't comunicate what I want well enough, or if they're just bad.)
Great video!! What I'm having trouble at times is the right socks on a suit. For example.. my grey windowpane suit with wearing brown wingtip shoes. What kind of socks?? Would you happen to have a video for that? Thank you sir 🙏🏼. All the best

Yeah, he has absolutely no idea about what body type looks good. He seems to think that you want to be rectangular in shape, which is the ugliest look you can have. A suit should emphasise your shoulders and hide your waist to give you a v-taper.
@@David-ud9ju suits are equalizers for guys with bad bodies. you want wide shoulders and not hide them. i have broad shoulders, big arms, but i also have big legs. suits are out of the questions. can't have a slimmer cut with 20"+ arms.
Very cool video. I took notes. Thank you for posting. Is there any sort of sleeve style that is best for people with broad shoulders & thick arms? My brother has broad shoulders, large arms, & is "stronger in the midsection". He has a hard time finding jackets that fit over his arms & shoulders. I've read that Raglan style gives more movement but you mentioned that if the arm holes are too large then there are issues with raising the arms up. Is there a modified Raglan or other term for something that has more mobility but is also larger to accommodate thick arms?
I have the same issue. Try to go with either oversized t-shirts/sweaters if you're going for a casual look or tightly fitting clothes with sometimes a bit of a stretch when going for a less sloppy look. If you're going for a suit you're going to have a hard time: either go for expensive brands that have a lot more types of jackets (slimmer around the waist than usual) or get a cheaper one adjusted at a tailor. Hope I helped at least a bit :)
@@DJMosley I'm of the same body type, I typically wear full cut high rise trousers with cuffs in order to get a wider drape giving off the effect that I have wider legs. You state that short men should have their jacket buttons higher up in order to look taller, yet I have heard the opposite as if the jacket button is lower it extends the V shape of the jacket, thus making you look slightly taller
What I read was men prior to WWII wore baggier suits, but after the war, you have the Mad Men like of '50"s look, much slimmer suits because men coming back from the military service were more fit.
I find it is another very interesting video. I like to wear suits, but being young and average build, I feel that in a world in which almost every man never wear suits, I prefer to wear slim fit suits with 2.5 inches ties and lapels so I can dress up and not feel too much overdressed.
This! Going for natural, soft shoulders in suits is still a great tip though. I switched over because the regular padded shoulders make me look ridiculous. I would also advise sizing up, skipping overly slim fitting suits and going for pleated trousers to anyone coming into suiting from an athletic background.
If you don't have a skinny lower body while also having a big upper body you are not an inverted triangle but more likely to be rectangular/trapezoid. Depending on what sport you play or what lifting routine you have you might develop imbalances that make you look odd but you usually can make a "naturally" triangular body be more "rectangular" through targeted training.
I'm pretty sure that bodybuilders would disagree with having big legs makes you a rectangle. Your lower body has nothing to do with whether you're a triangle or inverted triangle or rectangle or whatever; it's all upper body.
