I'm one of the guys who actually grows begonias for their FLOWERS and not so much for their foliage. People tend to forget that like Angel wing begonias flower and have actually beautiful flowers in many different colors! So hope everyone will take the time to admire begonias for their FLOWERS.
I just stick my begonia propogations right back in the mama pot. My begonia maculata started as 2 sticks and 6 leaves last May and she's one of my biggest plants now. Over 2 feet tall. One of my faves. Her name is Sharon. 💝
I feel like this might be the year for begonias! I feel like a lot of people are starting to get into them. I got my first cane begonia recently and I hope to dd more to my collection this year, such unique plant.
Begonia “Looking Glass” has been such an amazing grower for me! It’s one of the most silver cane begonias out there. I also super love “Cracked Ice” with it’s billions of polka dots and demure leaves.
I recently got a Cracked Ice and I am really enjoying it! In high light the concentration of silver is very high towards the tips which gives it such a neat look
I love Begonias. I've been wanting a Maculata for a long time. Went to a home Nursery last weekend and found one for $18. So thrilled with my collection. Lots of them also grow well outdoors in my Tropical garden.
I have so many potted Begonia Lucerna. It propagates so well. I had my big one outside in 9a in the shade of a large tree and it did so well this summer. My grandmother gave me a big pot as a house warming gift about 5 years ago. She passed a couple years ago and it’s definitely a treasured plant now. Cane begonias always remind me of her so I’ll always love them.
My favourite is the beefsteak begonia. It has much thicker leaves so it seems to tolerate low humidity pretty well and is very low maintenance. Mine has been growing vigorously and has even sprouted some (not so showy) flowers for me this winter!
I really, really love cane begonias! Similar to Hoya, it took growing one to really go from appreciating them to truly LOVING them. Another one that I really love is 'Whimsy' which really gives Wightii vibes but the leaf shape is a bit more.. ruffled? Such a cool genus of plants
I only have two Begonias. A Begonia Lois Burke and I just got a Begonia Maculata. They’re both gorgeous!! The Lois Burke has orange flowers in the spring and summer that are so pretty!! I highly recommend that one too. I got it from Steve’s Leaves. Thank you for sharing!! 💜💚🪴🌵 Editing to add: I taught my Service Dog to give me her cheek so I can kiss her and then she kisses me, then turns her head for me to kiss her again! 🥰🥰🥰🐾💜
Hey Becca i also once had a big beautiful gorgeous begonia lucerna. I might forgot to water it once or twice. All leaves fell off, but I managed to save one tiny little cutting. I put the cutting in water and hoped it would root as fast as the original cutting (big root after 2 weeks). Anyway weeks went by and no roots grew not even small ones. Nothing. AND NOW after 4 months roots appeared(so excited). Just wanted you to know... tldr: never lose hope
Last year I bought a Hardy begonia, ITS A PERRENIAL OUTDOOR ANGEL WING!! So excited to see it come back this year! Admitting I won’t believe it til I see it, but I trust the greenhouse worker who sold it to me so fingers crossed 🤞🏼 it will come back in my garden every year!
It took me quite a number of years of plant collecting before aquiring any begonias and now I have 3. The first one I bought was a Begonia Thurstonii as I had heard it was a nice easy one to start with and I'm happy to say it is doing very well. Then I bought a Begonia Rex 'Titica' which has been a bit more of a struggle but is still thriving. I accidentally splashed water on 2 of it's leaves so ended up taking them off. It really requires a lot of humidity as it is quick to tell you if there's not enough but is a quick grower when the humidity levels are right. I then wanted something a bit more "special" to go into a goldfish bowl enclosed terrarium so opted for a Begonia 'Cleopatrae' with the most amazing markings on the leaves and that is loving life too. I am happy with just the three but if something catches my eye you never know. What is the plant in the hanging pot to the left of you (the right as we see it)? It looks unusual and not something familiar to me. Thanks for sharing Becca.
I have Amphioxius in household humidity (30 to 40%) and a baby of it in a terarium and both are doing great. It was a wishlist plant and i was lucky to just find it in a hardware store, I was so happy! Then i found a Maculata in a garden center and i just ordered a Listada baby plant ,she is adorable. Next is a Melanobullata or a Ferox, the look so creepy cute !
Loved this video as I love begonias too, your miss mummy is gorgeous (on my wishlist now). They are so easy to look after and to propagate, you don't even need a node, like peperomias you can propagate them just from one leaf!
My begonia maculata just won't stop this winter and has become literally a bush. It keeps sending off shoots instead of growing taller which I am totally okay with. It given me 10 plus leaves this winter so far I should add that it was just 3 canes in a 6 inch with maybe 3 leafs on each or 2
I started with Rex Begonia's many years ago but just last year got in to Cane Begonia's and now I have a Maculata, Sophie Marie, Fanny Moser and a Medora. Almost got a Benigo pink but passed on it! Yours look so healthy and happy.
Wow, your begonia's look so happy and healthy! I just had to toss both of mine because they got powdery mildew and I just couldn't get rid of it. I'm going to wait for spring and some warmer weather and try again, but now I'm worried that the mildew is just kind of "in the air" here and it'll come back. Does anyone have experience in that area? None of my other plants seem to have it even though they're pretty close together, but both begonias did and they weren't close to each other at all!
I have a humungous begonia bunchii whose mother plant is easily over a hundred years old. And then I have a begonia northern lights that I’m obsessed with, she grows like crazy.
Your dogs are so cute! I love the look of begonias but I don't think I have the patience to take care of theme. Maybe the Maculata but it's not a priority plant but I do love seeing the different kinds.
I have the same begonia on my wishlist! I've been postponing getting it but most definitely will get it this year :) It's really cheap in my country so fingers crossed it won't spike in price in the next 12 months.
Hello Becca, Thank you so much for the video! Good to speak about bégonias. Would you speak one day of the Philitaenium Lindenii we see in the back? Love this uncommon and unkown plant, and would love to have tips about it! ✌🏼
Just got a begonia melanobullata, which I am obsessed with. Hopefully it does well, well see. I killed like two begonias last year lol. And I have a baby one coming from botanicaz. They are super cute, and colorful. Might end up liking them more than calatheas, well see. Thanks for sharing your collection, they look great!
for place dry climate most of begonia's are really2 need humidity & very good air flow. my recent experience even i give pretty good humidity level but the air flow not really consistent than my maculata, my U062 & Dotsy slowly dying 😭😭very good lesson for me
I’ve said before, you are the reason I bought my first cane begonia (a lucerna) after having no luck with Rex type. However, I cannot prop them successfully. Tried water method and putting them directly in soil. The cuttings rot. Urgggh! Don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Any tips? I do let the ends callous over. Benigo pink is the last one I tried to prop. I prop hoyas, pothos and aroids fairly well. I know begonias SHOULD be easy to prop, but there you go, it’s just a me thing....
I am more of a Hoya and Succulent fan. You are right everyone in the plant community has a preference of what they like and obsessed with. Also our home environment aswell what plants we can have and have room for.
Hey. Use "API Stress Coat Water Comditioner" in your tapwater. Use 4-5 drops for about 1liter tap water... (one small bottle will go a very long way) Than mix it throughy, and let the conditioneren do it's work 1-2 hours. And use this for thouse Plants that can't "handle" tap water. The conditioner will "remove/ break down" the harmfull chemicals. It's ment for Fish tanks... having that said, it will do wonder for your plants that can't "handle" tap water.
I think I have the same begonia that was your first!! I’ve been wondering what exactly it was!! Mine is really really huge and I’ve given away a ton of cuttings!!
I love begonias 😍 I have 2 rex and 1 cane begonia 💖 my rexes are actually doing great, my cane one not so much ;( how do you know when to water them? I never seem to find the right answer. Don't you get the feeling everyone cares for them differently? 😂
Got into them from the same plant my uncle has always had it gave my mom sum when I was growing up then when she left the plant basically was dead but I was like no I will save it, it was all the way to the ceiling I cut it up proped it and iv been into plants since
I’m getting all the different types! I have had a beefsteak for years but just in the past year I’ve acquired many! I have probably twenty five and quite a few propagations. Quite a few are rexes. I think they are somewhat trickier. The rhizome ones are easy. Let them dry out between watering. Begonias have so much to like about them! I especially love how cute and fuzzy a lot of the new leaves are, often a completely different color that the mature leaves. The variety is stunning! I’m in love with begonias!

We are getting so much Becca so far this year! Love all your videos.
I have one begonia.... the linda dawn.... begonias reminds me of my grandmother 👵... I will add more to my collection soon
Highly recommend begonia amphioxus✨✨ I keep mine in a cloche and it’s the first plant guests notice every single time

Yay!!! Haven't watched yet, but as a begonia fanatic I am beyond excited.☺💕 love your channel regardless!
Your Miss Mummy is absolutely stunning😍😍 i have a smaller one. Hope to see mine grow that large

huge begonia fan!!
Agree with humidity,y rex jurassic gets added so I put a water tray under him, seems to help 😀 he flowers every month so far so I think he's happy
You can try looking up for begonia venosa. She has succulent leaf and thrive in low humidity! A very unique begonia that I love a lot 😊

love me a good cane begonia, i have a linda dawn that i had to chop up bc it got to big and now i have a million of them!!!
I'll send you my address so you can clear up some space 😜😘 jk
That's been a long time favorite of mine but I never can find them locally
Your dogs are so cute! I love the look of begonias but I don't think I have the patience to take care of theme. Maybe the Maculata but it's not a priority plant but I do love seeing the different kinds.
I just ordered a benigo pink and it's my first begonia. Kinda nervous, but it's so beautiful I couldn't resist.
It’s a good one to start with!!
I have the same begonia on my wishlist! I've been postponing getting it but most definitely will get it this year :) It's really cheap in my country so fingers crossed it won't spike in price in the next 12 months.

I don’t have any begonias currently! I did have a maculata that I kinda miss 🤔 might have to add to my collection again
Beautiful collection
I have one begonia, a begonia hotspot w/pink flowers 🌸
Yay!! Happy Friday! But also, I love that idea to leave tags for plant sitters. I just hid the plants that didn't need to be watered when I left lol
for place dry climate most of begonia's are really2 need humidity & very good air flow. my recent experience even i give pretty good humidity level but the air flow not really consistent than my maculata, my U062 & Dotsy slowly dying 😭😭very good lesson for me
Loved seeing your begonia. I’ll enjoy them from here. I’m a chronic underwaterer and low humidity house 😁
The cane begonias don’t need high humidity!! I have mine out on a shelf with other plants and no extra humidity. Get one, and give it a try!
I almost got a begonia amphioxus yesterday, but I figured I should wait until I get a cloche 😅

I only have 2 Begonias- maculata and My Special Angel. They are very similar, except MSA doesnt have the red backs to the leaves.
Thanks.
Really informative. Love Leo!!
Hey Becca! I live in Toronto and I have a friend in Florida and both of our begonia maulata are losingleaves 😣 and we are not sure why..
I think I have the same begonia that was your first!! I’ve been wondering what exactly it was!! Mine is really really huge and I’ve given away a ton of cuttings!!
I have a kind of Rex begonia called Passing Storm I believe. It’s a pinky red and also really huge!! Not like 3-4 feet tall but really bushy!!
I got this from a small cutting from a friend!!
I love begonias 😍 I have 2 rex and 1 cane begonia 💖 my rexes are actually doing great, my cane one not so much ;( how do you know when to water them? I never seem to find the right answer. Don't you get the feeling everyone cares for them differently? 😂

If you under water your plants how is it your able to keep begonia alive?❄️💚🙃
Stunning. I love begonia too! What do you do for watering? Mine constantly drop leaves but I am in Calgary AB, Canada. It’s very dry here. :(
Personally, I allow the top two inches or so to dry out before watering but avoid allowing it to get too dry or for too long
Try wee paws! It’s not cane & a great grower. Deep colors.
I dislike begonias BUT still had to watch my girl 💁🏽♀️😘
I recommend rex begonia
So pretty
Do you ever get powdery mildew on your begonias?! If so please help 😭
Am I the only Rex begonia lover??
I’m getting all the different types! I have had a beefsteak for years but just in the past year I’ve acquired many!

Begonias aren't good in terra Cotta pots
Hahahaha I think most of us have been personally victimized by a PPP
😂😂
The screen is black . . .
