I wasn't very interested in Begonia, after getting the maculata; she crisps up constantly and loses all her bottom leaves, but this past spring, I happened to discover a silver limbo in a shop near my home. Holy Cow, she blew me away; completely, and I mean completely, metallic silver leaves, with a sheen beyond comprehension, and then, boom!, blood red under the leaf. Truly sublime. And so my love of rex begonia began, and now I have four and a wish list a mile long. I am a convert, that much is certain!
I also have the silver limbo and love how she is incredibly silver.
What do I type in yo find a silver limbo ? Is there another name ? Not finding much
@@mckinneymindy, in Google, I just typed in Silver limbo begonia, and a bunch of websites and images populated, so I don't know why you aren't finding much. Steve's Leaves in currently selling the plant, and I believe there are others.
Please do a video about begonia autum ember ....I LOVE that plant so much !❤❤❤❤❤
When you’re watching a video from Fern and have to pause to go scour the internet for a plant!!!! 😂😂😂
Yes, the begonia thurstonii got me! And, No I have not found one yet.
Begonia's are the reason I have 90 plus plants now. 😂
SAME
Me too
Just bought 20 types of begonias and waiting on them. I started with Begonia Ferox. I feel I could be “addicted “ to these wonderful varieties!
How did it go? I just got an order in for 5 more and love them.
the thumbnail is just so fantastically pretty and colorful. make me feel like begonias are so fun
I got my first begonia like two month ago and I can’t believe how easy she is! I live in the desert and she’s thriving. Very happy I got one.
your collection is amazing! I had a few of my begonia bloom, so I took the flowers off, pressed them and made a resin epoxy pressed begonia flower dagger! it looks so cool! especially since its only begonia blooms 💚
Oh my gosh, what a beautiful collection you have! I love seeing them all together like that 🧡🌿
Ahh thank you - me too 🥰💚
Girl you gotta get your hands on a begonia "looking glass"! They are a cane begonia with shimmery SILVER leaves with green veining and bright red backs! Probably the most silver plant I own and grows so fast!
Yessss!!! Fern you would LOVE this one as much as you love silver plants! I wish you could post pictures in UA-cam comments so I could post mine! I had to cut it all the way back and restarted it in leca and it is huuuuge now and so happy. They're such an easy begonia ❤
that one is high on my list of wants
YEEES I'm so excited I'm loving begonia lately 🌱👀
yesss they're the besttt 🙊
Yesssss 😍 love the begonia content. I’d love to see a visual representation of your begonia wishlist, exotic version, I recently moved and sold off my whole collection so I’m trying to decide how exactly I want to rebuild it. Loved my Beefsteak but I’m 100% gonna get a Thurstonii this time and also considering doing a good sized begonia terrarium 😁
i loooove begonias! the dramatic shapes/ colors/ patterns of some types always got me, esp the dark, colorful, silvery, spotted, spikey or "poisonous" looking ones. my old nursery coworkers had me convinced they were "too demanding", but i ignored their advice + now i have 3 thriving, happy begonias that love to flower! your terrarium ones are so cute, your collection is looking lovely + that begonia shirt is perfect
Thurstonii has just hit the top of my wishlist!! I finally cracked the code for my maculata after a couple of years, so i cautiously got an amphioxus but its doing well and i think im ready to become begonia girl lol. So many gorgeous varieties
About the Sinbad: maybe it wants high humidity but it doesn't mean that it likes stagnant air. I am not sure if this will fix the 'melting' but this would be my idea to deal with it. If there is water staying/condensating on the plant, this might help get rid of it without decreasing the humidity.
What a beautiful collection ! I’m not really a fan of begonias but your video would make me change my mind 💚
I picked up a beautiful Rex begonia this weekend, she’s black with metallic pink spots, freaking gorg
Beautiful collection! I laughed at “Fanny Moser”. Sounds like some sort of Shakespearean insult. 😂
Thank you for showing the easier begonias to care for. I recently bought a brevirimosa exotica. It had shipping shock and I tried to hard to save it. 😢. Lesson learned more humidity. I love your shirt had to look it up!❤
I don’t own any begonias, I have a few on my list but I’m scared to try them… but I still clicked so damn fast 🤣 you have such a stunning begonia collection and you’re the reason that I added the first ones to my wishlist 🥰
eeeep thank you for watching - hoping to make a begonia lover of you yet ;)
@@wildfernyou definitely have made me love them already! I’ve just been loving them from afar for now 😅
I definitely would like to try one, but I’ll probably wait until the warmer weather comes back around in the spring! ☀️🌸
I also just added a lot of plants to my collection this week, because my self control for a sale is nonexistent 🤣
The worst part is that the other chunk of my combined order/s from them won’t even ship until November, so I have more coming in a few weeks 🤣
I just ordered my first begonia recently. Begonia Dotsy very red with pink dots.
They all look amazing! That thurstonii is majestic lol. Two in my collection that I can highly recommend are begonia barsalouxiae (it looks like stained glass!) and begonia natunaensis (really cool texture and gets big)
I use to not be into begonia, you and planting Ashley changed my mind!!❤❤❤❤
So glad to hear!! They're so fun to grow 🌸
I just got a begonia sinbad from a local greenhouse. When I laid my eyes on that plant OMG😮. I just about died. It’s soooo beautiful. Now just have to keep it alive.
I was going to order that one.
@@JacquelineJax I didn’t even know what it was before I saw it that day. It definitely is a beautiful plant in real life that’s for sure. It was only a whopping 4.95 and I think that was a great deal for what it is. Also btw, it’s so far been pretty easy going. I have it in a south west facing room about 13 feet from the windows and it’s just happy as a clam.
@@user-kr911 that's super cheap. my local nursery has little ones for 5.99 sometimes. I'll have to watch. I did order a Gryphon that's really nice online and it was around 20 cad.
I have that angel wing begonia I got from Walmart last fall and I had to rehab it as it was all dried up. Then a plant from a nursery had thrips and it went after my begonia and I am struggling to rid it of thrips. They keep eating the leaves and the begonia is it’s fav. Love that begonia with the red dots. Hoya are my fav so that will be my only begonia as I don’t have a lot of space
Try a systemic 😊
Omg. I literally got my thurstonii delivered yesterday. You inspired me❤️❤️
Where did you find yours? Online?
Got my first begonia in a plant swap as a propagation in a wine bottle. Which is amazing. It was a begonia sinbad and she was super pink and flowered CONSTANTLY the most precious flowers. I lost her in a move but still a huge begonia sinbad fan
I literally cannot wait for your Thurstonii to bloom and see your reaction! The blooms are this beautiful deep pink color! The contrast of them against that foliage is to die for ❤
Really enjoyed the clip of you turning the begonia in the sun so we can see the shimmer!! Really a stunning shot and a great way to get to know the begonia better!
I decided to pivot on my terrarium build and when I was trying to decide on what to do I thought of begonias thanks to you always sharing your love of them. I’d love to see you do a begonia terrarium! You have way more experience with them 💖
Beautiful collection as always ❤
My Linda Dawn, which I got as a two leaf cutting, has become my all time favorite plant 🥹 The deep colors and those funky textured leaves have me walking over to it all throughout the day for an admiration sesh, I think every plant person needs a begonia…. Or fifteen😂
I was sooo pleased to hear you talk about your amphioxus experience. I have always wanted one but have hesitated in the past because of the humidity issue. I immediately went and ordered one after seeing yours and hearing how you grow it! I am so excited to get it. “Poisonous” is the perfect descriptor! 😀
This little begonia with the ruffly leaves is so cute.
I decided to try out cane begonia because of you! I have 2, sinbad and looking glass!
oh that is amazing! I've never grown looking glass but it looks phenomenal 😍
i love the funny zooms you've been adding to your videos, so funny!
From May till now I brought home 60 plants 😂 I got my first Begonia like 2 weeks ago, maybe less. Ofc, it was Begonia Maculata 😃 I think it is a gate-way Begonia for everyone. It's just so perfect 🥰
I bought my first and only begonia maculata about two years ago, before winter, and standing on a south-facing window during that time it grew beautifully and even started to flower - I couldn't get enough of it :) But my love for the plants started since then and despite the most sincere intentions, my boyfriend breaking half of it (unintentionally!), it started to languish heavily after the winter. Despite moving it to another place, where it started to put up a lot of new leaves, it did not manage. I cut the shoots, rooted, repotted - it decided not to adapt. It is a pity, because they are beautiful plants, I would like to have them in my collection, maybe in the future I will succeed :)
Omg the thurstonii is an absolute BEAST now! Love it! Chopping and propping my maculata put me off begonia a bit...i had 8 props, all but 2 failed, 1 melted, and the lone survivor is still tiny after 18 months 😂 begonia are so unique and stunning though, i love your collection!
Melted?? Explain for my tiny brain 😅
@@avagrace_333 i planted them up and it was fine for about a year they just had a meltdown, lost all its leaves and withered away. No idea why because it was treated exactly the same as the other cutting 😂😭
@@roots_and_ruin nooooooo aw I’ve definitely had that before
OMG at your Thurstonii!! What a beauty 💚 😍
I only have 1 begonia, and I love her. Don Miller, ice white/silvery leaves with a prominent green vein. Love your collection. Excited to see it grow.
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing plants lovely collection beautiful garden lovely collection plants lovely
I was super excited about this video! I love begonias a lot and gosh I remember when you got your amphioxus, can't believe the size of it now. Don't even get me started on your thurstonii. Magnificent plants! Begonia maurice amey is a stunning pink begonia. Every leaf comes out different
I didn’t start loving begonias until I found out about self watering pots. I never had any success in soil but Pon changed everything and I want more. Just have to find space😊
Yes self watering is so handy! I need to get more of mine into them :)
I hadn’t thought of begonias before but your diverse collection has changed my mind. I’ll have to look up some and get one or two.
Definitely convinced me that cane begonia are beautiful too. Always thought they were too lanky. Loooove your collection ❤
I got an unknown plant at Lowe’s the other day and when you showed the one Begonia with the cross in the middle i realized that was it!! That was such a fun surprise! I have only had one other-a maculata which I love! Because of this video I looked for Begonia Thurstonii and it’s sold out everywhere! You would think someone would start propagating!
Haha nice Tshirt a true fan😂 Nice plants! I just got a Begonia Carolineifolia from a friend thats how i ended up here. Will be interesting to see if i can make it flower🌸🐈
Wow that thurstonii is so pretty. I love those shiny leaves.
So I just got my first 2 begonias! One is a noid that was just called, "brown begonia. " it's so hairy and weird. I love it! Begonias often read as old lady plants in my brain, but this one is like the fizzy brown caterpillar from hell. My husband asked if it was going to hurt us. 😂 I'm going to need a begonia cabinet....
Omg now I need them all… please film your pot up.. I’ve killed every one I have had… over watering
Gorgeous begonia collection you got there, Fern!😍 I'm so obsessed with your Begonia 'Autumn Ember', so stunning! 🍂🍁
You do have a lot of them but all are so unique from the rest.
I just got my first begonia!!! I’m in love, I want so many now 😻
I got a thurstonii because of you, its a 2 leaf cutting and its gorgeous! thanks for sharing 🥰
Yes you need a Begonia brevirimosa 💖 they are amazing! Mine was fine until I took outside, what was I thinking lol we are starting all over for the third time but that’s okay!
Omg what a beautiful collection 😍 And thank u I was gifted one and didn't know the name but thanks to u now I do. 😊
Thank you so much for watching - glad it was helpful :)
Your thurstonii is INSANE😍. Such an incredible begonia!
I love begonias!!!! My friend got me in to them! Their sooo pretty!! My maculata that I was gifted, is currently giving out 3 leaves at a time! So exciting 😅
Best video ever!!! 😊😁🤩
I wonder if the darthvaderiana hybrid would maintain its leaves better with air circulation along with the high humidity 🤔
im not sure about what the availability of it in canada is but i think you would absolutely looooove the begonia burkillii dark form
Agreed! A true babe of a plant
Can you do a video when you plant your propagated begonia maculata? I’m not good with plants, they always die on me but one day I went to the supermarket and saw a spotted begonia and fell in love. She’s been with me for four years and her name is Audrey.
Hi Fern 💫 I absolutely love your Amphixous and am on the look out for one myself. Your whole collection is stunning. Thank you for sharing your experience with these. Enjoy your weekend. 🙏🏻💫
I got a thurstonii cutting because of you and it’s thriving!! Such a beautiful plant!
Where did you get your cutting from? I can't find any in Europe countries and Noone ships from the US :/
@@BillyH6 I found mine on Etsy! They’re still hard to find you just have to keep an eye out for one. I was searching for one for about a month before I found one.
I beg that you try pollinating some of yours😍 I can only imagine how beautiful the (botanicaz x darth) x amph would be!
Never clicked on a video faster they’re my favourite plant ever 🥹🥹 I have a stunning maculata at the moment it’s my pride and joy
Begonia are so pretty but I haven't done well with most of them. I just got a thurstonii after seeing someone's picture where it was basically a small tree lol. I have three others, all noid cane begonias, and one I've had over a year, so we'll see!.
Hi Fern. I love begonias and you have such as amazing collection. They all look so healthy and lush. Well done!!!! I have to admit I am envious of your Begonia - Thurstonii. What a beauty!!! I own a Begonia maculata -white ice and Begonia - Party Dress. I find Begonias tricky to grow. 👌💚
I love your begonia so much! My favorite one is the one with the limey stripe (forgot the name already) 😂
❤ I have 2 begonias at the moment and have been trying to find a Magdalene one like the one you have. I just love it!❤
One time, I decided to do a begonia terrarium. I ordered so many begonia for it. I know all about melting , all of mine melted away. I had a bunch of the botanicaz begonia (not their fault). I was so inexperienced as a terrarium begonia beginner that I should have started with one.
Awesome collection! The big boys are just a showstoppers!🤩
What a gorgeous collection!! Gotta get me a thurstonii now😅 the paulensis begonia is also gorgeous, as the leaves seem to have a spider web effect. Thanks for sharing!
Love the begonia goegoensis, the colouring reminds me of a verrucosum and has rounded leaves
i'd love a little begonia mini series type thing where you pot up all the props with us and then another vid with an update on them
also, i wonder if the botonicaz 1 is being fussy about something in the water. have you ever tried distilled with it?
Hi edagdwg God bless you thanks for sharing love them all enjoy seeing them bloom love finding them .a forever fan Linda j .peace
i love begonias. hi fern love watching your videos from rhe philippines ❤
Thank you for sharing your begonia collection, love it 😀 I have a Maculata, it too grows like a weed. I got it in the spring and it’s 3 feet tall and loaded with flowers. 👍🇨🇦
I don’t have any, yet!!!
Yet, is the key word. Lol.
So pretty!
I recently composted my first begonia. It lasted three weeks 😢 yours are beautiful, but never again😂
I have a rex begonia with metallic pink/red leaves you should look up, I´m not 100% sure about the name bit I think it´s shadow king lava red.
It lost all leaves after repotting into pon but grew back just fine (don´t think it had something to do with the repot per se, it came from a big box store and had terrible soil), the first few leaves where silver! now its pink/red again.
I cannot wait to see a video about a begonia terrarium 😍
Oh I think I have a Sinbad. I bought it as a 'terrarium plant'.
Hey Fern I am a Begonia lover but unfortunately I have trouble with the Rhizomatous ones ( I'm fine with the cane variety). They dont seem to do well in my care. But after watching this I think I'll keep my Glacier Silver in a Cloche or smaller Greenhouse until it gets really big and established. I currently have it in a prop box. I would LOOOOOOOOVE to get my hands on a Thurstonii too. Such a magnificent specimen you have there 👌🏼👏🏼 Thanks for sharing your collection with us 🥰
Thank you so much for watching! Hope you’re able to track down a thurstonii 😊
I love begonias!! One of my favorite genus too!
You are the reason I am getting into them. So I loved this videos so much
🩷💖✨thank you Fern!! beautiful Begonias!!! dreaming of my own thurstonii one day 🥹😻 blessings 😇
I just wanna say, your begonia collection really matches spooky season🖤 They are beautiful!
Uhmm I hope you are doing fine, Fern! I am just feeling sad just by looking into your eyes.😔 love ya!
Very nice collection!!, would you can show us how carrie them?
Thank you for the video Fern. Definitely makes me want to try out a few begonia now. I love the Thurstonii.
Yay! I've been waiting for this video. My love for begonia has grown largely the past 6 months. I will forever be jealous that you have a thurstonii, rarely do you EVER see them sold, let alone, this big and beautiful. 😍 What are your tips on keeping them from crisping? My thin-leaf cane begonias tend to get spots and crispy leaves 🤔
I have a huge Lucerna Corallina!! How can I send you a picture of it? ❤
Avoid letting them dry out too much or too often and try using distilled or rain water. They can be sensitive to salts and minerals in the water. R/O is great, too
I can really see the outline along the edges of the leaves on the darkvaniana(?)
Your Begonia all look great ❤
I can't keep them happy, for Begonia I am a serial killer 🙈
I don't like begonias but I have one and it hates humidity. The only reason I keep it is because it's easy to look after even though they're supposed to be difficult. 😂
I am actually quite jealous. I've tried so many different types of begonia and they've all rotted and died. It's very sad because I love begonia. Living vicariously through your collection.
I've only had success really with one begonia after trying about a half dozen. It was a noid that looks like "Sophia," and I find it very tolerant.
So glad to see this lovely Begonia video!
Gorgeous begonias, enjoyed your video a lot! You grow begonias very well, they look so healthy and happy! I remember you used to grow emphioxis under a clutch when was very small, but now she has grown huge for you! Thanks for sharing your beautiful collection with us. What type of soil do you use? Can you do a begonias repot party video please?
Do you have any videos on your Variegated Holiday Cactus? Very interested! Loved this video.
Love begonias ‼️all yours are beautiful‼️
💚🌱🌵☘️💚
I like your appropriately themed shirt❤️ I have a maculata…..I may have to expand my collection. As always, thanks for sharing ❤️
you have totally inspired me to get more begonia!!! and alocasia :') LOVE 😍
I love begonias but don't like the cane ones. Good thing there's plenty to choose from 😉
The Julau, if it’s matured you can just cut it down instead of buying new ones they will go back to being juvenile again like most plants when you cut
The melting of the leaves might be because of lack of airflow. Higher humidity needs higher airflow (hence fans in greenhouses, cabinets, etc) Very hard to manage unfortunately!
