Such a lovely collection. I love these types of videos. Maybe we can see the Hoya next? 😏 As to calathea and your atabapoense, many plants, espec understory plants, have purple-red backs as a way to better absorb light! The purple helps to bounce the light back through the leaf so that it can better use it. Nature is so freaking cool, I just can’t.
Philodendrons are the bulk of my collection at the moment. They’re so fun and have so many interesting varieties. So many colours, shapes, textures and sizes!
Loved this video! For gloriosum, I've found that mine sized up really quickly when I gave it a long pot to crawl along. Since it was an increase in soil volume and I wanted to avoid rot, I modified my aroid mix to be even chunkier (70% bark) and it LOVES it. Ultimately I think it's just the size of the root mass that directly causes the large growth, so ensure that the growth points have access to chunky soil to root into (and you could air layer or mist the growth point to encourage rooting).
I agree! I put my Gloriosum in a longer, shallow pot that was too big for it's root system at the time but the next leaf it put out was massive compared to the previous ones
Becca! Omg finally getting back into your videos after listening to Potted Together for a while. Forgot how much I enjoyed your personality and videos! Thanks for posting and making content for all of us :)
When you pulled up the crassinervium I got a good laugh cause the leaves just looked like bunny ears, you pulled a rabbit out of a hat 😂 I have a Prince of Orange that just loves me so of course I love him back 🥰 Fern has made me really love the Painted Lady, after seeing hers I definitely need one
It really helps when anyone on UA-cam mentions how a plant grows, especially with philodendrons. I thank you for that, one never knows when “excite” buying a plant how it grows, is it a crawler or a climber, useful information for the future of the plant. Some like to hang and some like to climb and when I spy a plant I really like I just buy it and then wonder later how it’s going to grow. ❄️💚🙃
Philodendron splendid is my first "rare" plant I got a few weeks ago. Thank you for sharing with us your wonderful collection! My favorites are probably your Silver Sword & your Philodendron Billietiae! Also, your Brasil. Wow!
Loved this. Your enthusiasm is infectious and I do seem to have been drawn to Philodendrons. Despite being new to houseplants (got my first one in July), I have more Philodendrons than anything. Yours are lovely and a lot of them are on my wish list, and some I’ve not seen before are being added to it. Thanks for sharing.
my micans works so hard for me I admire her greatly, my newest green heartleaf is enjoying its spot in the window and my brasil that has journeyed the back half of my college career with me has been putting out some super fun looking leaves! some with more cream than anything else, some with just a sliver of dark green, and some with pink hues and very marbled colors, its honestly so cool
I just got a micans, I'm very new to plant keeping in general. I'm absolutely smitten with the tiny little baby already. Lol the reddish hue to the leaves is so stunning 😍 I have a Brazil, and she's my first plant really. And oh my gosh what gorgeous creatures brazils are :D
I LOVE PHILODENDRON!!!💓💓💓. Love this video and you!💓💓. My favorite Philodendron is my parents' engagement gift,c59 year old cultivar. I chopped and propped it. She is a happy plant. No idea what she is. She had big solid heart shaped green leaves and woody looking Arial roots. She doesn't look or act like a hederacium. She was always known as Sweetie as they were told that she was a sweetheart Philodendron. 🤷🏼♀️. I love her whatever she is, much older than me. Thank you for this video🥰💖
I think those brown parts (edit - on the bunny eared philodendron) are extrafloral nectaries. The plant puts out sugar sap so that ants are incentivized to climb on it. It's a symbiotic relationship; the ants will eat any pests they come across and keep the plant healthy while the plant in turn provides food. I have a philodendron Maximum and they have the same extrafloral nectaries. I thought it was rot or disease or something until it was explained to me and referenced in a few videos on the plant.
16:00 the two plants that will never ever grow or survive in my home no matter what I do are the Pilea peperomioides and the Begonia maculata. I’ve gone through three maculatas and four pileas. They’re all dead. Sucks because I love the way they look especially the maculata.
I am back in the collecting stage, but my favorite is one I got from my Grandmother's collection 15 years ago. It's a large spade leaf Philodendron - possibly Fantasy or Domesticum (nobody can tell me exactly what it is) Leaves can get up to 8-9" long. I have just let it go for years and am now cutting and propogating. It's wonderful and so satisfying when it pops a new large leaf. I just purchased a large Philodendron Painted Lady that is very similar in size and structure - color is different, of course, but the overall look is similar.
i cannot tell you how many times i have watched and rewatched this video😂 i feel like i’ve watched it at least a few times a month since you posted it!😬😅 philodendron is my favorite genus and i just love looking at your gorgeous plants!!
I bought a Silver Sword because of Fern too😂 My favorite right now though would have to be my philodendron giganteum. UGH SO PRETTY AND SO EASY! It’s my most expensive plant but sooooo freaking worth it
I love your range of differences in your collection of philodendrons. The silver sword is on my wishlist because of wildfern too. Thank you for another fun video. ❤🌱❤
I love my mayoi--it's a slow grower but each leaf is stunning. I also really like my plain old Congo rojo, the combination of green leaves and red petioles is stunning. I've read that the dark red or purple on the backs of leaves reflects light that would normally go through the leaf back into the leaf, so that it can photosynthesize more light.
Great collection becca, i also have the crassinervium. It doesnt seem to be a very commonly known plant where im from either, but mine is massive, and it really is a plant that loves to secret extra floral nectaries , but i really love it.
Pretty sure my favorite philodendron is my Brasil or my pink princess (mine has finally started giving me some bright pink verigation from a growth point) However I did just find a prince of orange and the leaves come out SOOO beautiful that he really has kinda become one of the stars of my plant room to be honest.
@@BeccaDeLaPlants yes I agree! At first I was sad because mine only had 1 good growth point and most of my leaves are just that pretty dark green with little to no speckling. When when that new growth point came I got hope and it paid off! Hoping eventually when my plant is large enough I can separate. I think it would be super pretty to have them side by side in my plant room!
Becca, go to your Big Box store hardware store and buy cedar fence planks. The are just as sturdy but not as thick as the planks you are using. I buy mine untreated!
From what I know about dark colored under leaves, many of these plants are on a forest floor. They don't have access to a ton of light always, hence why they thrive in bright indirect light. That being said they need to grab as much light as possible. Having a dark under leaf allows more light to to be absorbed rather than light passing through a lighter green.
I can't pick a favourite Philo but my Brasil and Xanadu are gorgeous right now. I want a Brandi ,but I have seen none in my country. Your Brandi is everything. Thanks for sharing all those beauties💚🪴
omg your lemon lime heart leaf! My favorite philodendrons are my ring of fire, I got it as a 1 leaf cutting and now it has 7 I'm so excited to see it grow more, and then the micans, it's the only plant that i have 2 of
Great video and collection! My favourite philodendrons are alatiundulatum and elegans, but let s face it all philodendrons have something gorgeous to offer…!
Your mamei!! I just placed an order with Ecua for pickup in Wichita and got a Mamei silver 😱 I’m super excited but nervous since philodendrons are harder to import
Thanks for sharing! My philodendrons are still super small. Hoping my ring of fire will grow bigger, it’s still in a 2 inch pot lol. Obsessed with the leaves though, and hoping I can keep it alive long enough to grow big. But yay, Spring is almost here!
If you do use a plank, you don’t want to use treated wood. 💚 calathea actually have purple undersides to get the light better, from what bounces up off the ground. Since they are way under the understory on the floor. That’s why if you give them a lot of light they can actually lose their colored underside! They’re so cool. Love all your philos! They’re my favorite genus by far!
I think your panduriforme is actually a bipennifolium. They tend to get easily mislabeled when smaller- but the juvenile pandu would actually have a more narrow leaf and more “pointy” lobes even in a small form. 💚 you can see how yours has almost “four” points on some of the leaves on the lobe area- which isn’t a trait of the pandu. I’ve been looking for a true form all over, definitely hard to find! Lol
All of these are lovely 🥰 Philodendrons are definitely in my top three favorite plant categories ☺️ My micans seems to love my east facing window and fairly frequent waterings. And humidity! It’s always been right next to or very close to a humidifier. Went from ~6 leaves in August to three long vines, 2 of which are now on a large U-trellis (and one pinned into the pot to fill it out). Leaves still not nearly as big as your second specimen but she’s still doing great 👍🏾 My most recent acquisition was a jungle boogie and 🙌🏾, love him so much. It’s only been two months and we’re already working on our fourth new leaf 😏 My top wishlist is a Florida. Just the green one like yours. Close behind is the squamiferum, I just love that multi lobed leaf shape 😍👅
I would say that I've always loved my micans and brazil, but currently my McColley's finale and my Lime Fiddle are just growing up so beautifully! Also I have an adorable baby florida ghost that I grew from a wet stick and it's finally looking like a real plant haha
Dark tones on the back of plant leaves (stomata) actually refract light back onto the photosynthesising part of the leaves - this is why calathea are true "low-light" plants, they maximise whatever light energy hits their leaves. similar to how white variegation is a lack of chlorophyll that means the plant cant photosynthesis as well, the dark Stomata are the exact opposite, maximising photosynthesis
I just bought 2 Philo Brandis, 4” pots for $16.98, at Lowe’s , in Florida. It came in the cutest smile guy ceramic hanging pot. I even posted pictures on the “ Big Box Store Plant Watch” Facebook page
aaahh my favorite genus! 🤩✨ all of yours are so prettyyy. idk if i have just one favorite in my collection cus it always changes lol. but one remarkable one i have is my philodendron white wizard. 🥰 she is super variegated and super cute! 🌿🌿🌿
I just got a micans from The Foliage Fix and I am so so so smitten with it right now. It's so tiny and cute. But it's also my first online order & I'm fairly new to keeping plants. :) My brazil is going well, she's had like two leaves come in kinda wonky lately. So I'm keeping an eye on her. I just repotted it so hopefully that'll help
I’ve recently become enamored with lemon lime heart leaf philo, and haven’t been able to find any. I feel like they were all over last year and I didn’t want them them. Lol. After watching this video and Ferns Melano video has me wanting to go philodendron shopping. 😅😂
Right now my Splendid and it’s growing so well but it’s very hard to choose a single favorite plant. I have many philodendron in my collection like mamei, gloriousum , mexicanium ,silver sword, subhastatum, bipennifolium,Brandi, congo, red emerald, ghost, and about ten more plus my vining ones. This type of plant has such a different look on all the plants and you just want to get all of them but space does run out as they get really big. I’m want to get some more strappy type plants rt now I think my genevievianum will give me a bit of that look one day as she gets bigger but I really want thinner type long leaves I’ve got a anthurium coming that I’m so excited to get with that look. Anyway to much talk have a awesome day.
Love philodendron so much I have 32 species... my pink princess is a baby from a mother plant and it isn't bigger than my pinky finger you'd love it! Hahaha love your videos!
Do you still live in AZ? I live in Tempe and I feel like a lot of channels I watch they live places with such different climate than AZ so it’s hard for some things to translate
Ok so Becca! Treat your squamiferum (? How to spell?) the same way you’re treating the Florida, at least as an experiment! I was treating them the same and they were growing at the same rate for me! Literally one would pop a leaf then the next would too
I love the trailing philos but never do well with them. The Brandi is my fave but already mines looking scraggly and making me sad. Lol. I’ve tried micans multiple times and they all tend to go bald on me and get very leggy. This last time I bought an 8” basket and put it under a grow light to see if that will help any. I would try again with the Brandi but haven’t found an 8” basket for a reasonable price yet.
hey becca! the dark/red undersides of the atabapoense leaf is to help reflect the desired wavelength of light back to the chlorophyll. same with the calathea as well! :) edit: also for the wood, i suggest you check out emma louise on youtube. she’s a (scottish?) youtuber who grows plants on wood planks and she air layers her plant every time it starts to exceed the pole. because the moment you propogate your plant and it has to push out/develop roots fro scratch, it will actually revert a bit. air layering helps you avoid that. i’m currently doing it with MY silver sword rn so that i can keep it mature 😍
That is SO cool! Also thanks for the suggestion - I have been following Plant Life In The Tropics (Caitlin) who also happens to be Scottish and does plants on planks/air layering 😂 so cool!
What is the name of the plant that is right in front of the house plant book on the shelf behind you. OMG it looks so cool and Unique. By the way I love your videos .
@@jennifer2014g I thought that was maybe it but I’ve started regularly treating my plants with systemic. It’s been 2 months or more without any change in its appearance.
I have one of those brasil/rio/silver stripe philodendron and it was trouble for me from day one also. Never grew. Just looked long and stringy. No matter how much I chopped and propped it grew the most pathetic leaves and runners. I gave it away. I just couldn't anymore!
I'm super curious about why your Gloriosum isn't sizing up. I noticed you've mentioned it in at least one other video, too. I was searching the comments to see if anyone had any suggestions, sad I didn't see any. My only thought is maybe it's not getting enough _something_. More light/humidity? Don't take my word for it, my only Philo is a mamei so far. I'm just super curious and want to know/help you figure it out 😂
I just have one question. House plants(most of them) thrive in a humid high temperature environment. I as a human being can't survive in humid hot summer without an air conditioner(which crisps up my houseplants and kills em). Is it possible for both of us to find a common ground to co-exist?
Picking my favorite Philo is impossible but I’m such a sucker for velvety leaves 😅 Question: I keep seeing the orchid pots being used for other plants, curious how that’s working out for people, I’m worried about the soil drying out to fast!?
The plastic ones dry out extremely fast and you have to bottom water to get the soil totally saturated. I wouldn’t suggest it honestly :p (the pot that holds the billetiae is what I’m referring to). Terra cotta orchid pots are totally fine though! Love them for my houseplants
Does anyone know anything about the string of pearls behind her on the shelf? They look fake, but regardless they’re beautiful and I’m just curious about them!! ❤
My huge, beautiful Mican just died. I still do not know the culprit. It started getting brown spots, but I couldn't find any bugs.....maybe fungus, IDK. My condolences:(
“Last time I did this I had bangs” *gets bangs after filming video* 😂
😂😂 hahahaha omgggg
I literally thought the same thing 🤣🤪
Such a lovely collection. I love these types of videos. Maybe we can see the Hoya next? 😏

Ooh yes!! I can do Hoya next :)

What a beautiful philadendron collection. One of my favorite genus of plants & so much variety! I'm loving my lemon lime & my Brasil right now.
They’re so gorgeous!!

Yesss, Fern’s old Silver Sword has me desperate to grow my own 😩😍
Me too
“Marble Queen Pothos. love her work” 🤣 I will be stealing this because I go on and on and ON about plants. “love her work” sums it up just perfectly 🤣
Becca, you're so sweet. Your videos always brighten my day, especially your genus collections! :)
❤️❤️🥰 thank you so much!!
my micans works so hard for me I admire her greatly, my newest green heartleaf is enjoying its spot in the window and my brasil that has journeyed the back half of my college career with me has been putting out some super fun looking leaves! some with more cream than anything else, some with just a sliver of dark green, and some with pink hues and very marbled colors, its honestly so cool
I just got a micans, I'm very new to plant keeping in general. I'm absolutely smitten with the tiny little baby already. Lol the reddish hue to the leaves is so stunning 😍
I have a Brazil, and she's my first plant really. And oh my gosh what gorgeous creatures brazils are :D
So excited for both of you!! 🥰
Omg!! That’s so cool to get a plant as an engagement gift :) love it.
Your philodendron Brandi I probably the best looking one I’ve ever seen
It’s because it’s new 😂😂 give it a few months lmao
I love these types of videos SO much, and I love philodendrons!!
They’re amazing!!
Oooh love that!!! So cool how plants do that kind of stuff 😍
Love your videos and you have actually taught me a lot about plants I am new at this
Love all your video s.......your tips and practical pointers are very useful ....esp onall the plant traps we fall into .....👍
Fern made us all buy silver swords it seems 😵💫😂💚
Hahaha she has influenced us all!

Really beautiful collection. The Brandi is one of those plants that I love and hate at the same time.
I have the silver stripe as well as a couple of brasils. I have several burle marx, and i just love that one.
So lovely!!
I love my gloriosum! Just bought her and she has 3 big leaves ☺️
such great beginner plants love love

I just repotted it so hopefully that'll help
They’re the best!!!
I’ve recently become enamored with lemon lime heart leaf philo, and haven’t been able to find any. I feel like they were all over last year and I didn’t want them them. Lol.
After watching this video and Ferns Melano video has me wanting to go philodendron shopping. 😅😂
They’re so cute right!? Love them!
ooooo... what is the plant on your bookshelf displayed in front of the book? Sooo cute!
It’s a crochet string of pearls!!
It sounds like your collection is AMAZING!!
Love philodendron so much I have 32 species... my pink princess is a baby from a mother plant and it isn't bigger than my pinky finger you'd love it! Hahaha love your videos!
Omg sooo cute!!
My micans looks just like that! It only ever puts out small leaves for me. I’ve tried everything 😩 they used to be one of my favorites. 🥺
Hahahah I hope my second one turns out better 😂
Do you still live in AZ? I live in Tempe and I feel like a lot of channels I watch they live places with such different climate than AZ so it’s hard for some things to translate
I think she lives in Missouri or somewhere quite different to Arizona now
was that a philodendron florida ghost behind her on the shelf? The one closest to her head on the left?
My favorite philodendron in my collection is my Tahiti! She’s as tall as me now! Wish I could attach a photo! 🤗
Oooh!!! Don’t think I’ve heard I’d that one 😄
my gloriosum is also only pushing out those sized leaves. i have no idea why
I’m glad I’m not alone!! Hopefully we can figure this out haha
Beautiful collection! Also, where are your earrings from??
inshaneforplants.com/products/melanocrysum-earrings?variant=38051685925053 🥰
Your plants are beautiful, but where are your glasses from??
Zenni!! ❤️
Ok so Becca! Treat your squamiferum (? How to spell?) the same way you’re treating the Florida, at least as an experiment! I was treating them the same and they were growing at the same rate for me! Literally one would pop a leaf then the next would too
Oh wow!!! That’s exciting!
What do you fertilize with? That is probably why your plants are reverting to smaller leaves ..??
I love the trailing philos but never do well with them. The Brandi is my fave but already mines looking scraggly and making me sad. Lol. I’ve tried micans multiple times and they all tend to go bald on me and get very leggy. This last time I bought an 8” basket and put it under a grow light to see if that will help any. I would try again with the Brandi but haven’t found an 8” basket for a reasonable price yet.
My old Brandi ended up looking super scraggly and it made me sad too 😩😂
Mind updating us about the brandtianum? Mine just becomes scraggly and ugly with the first new leaf. Every. Time.
I love my splendid! They’re such prolific growers. I don’t like pink princess either. 😳🤣
They are amazing!!
hey becca! the dark/red undersides of the atabapoense leaf is to help reflect the desired wavelength of light back to the chlorophyll. same with the calathea as well! :)
edit: also for the wood, i suggest you check out emma louise on youtube. she’s a (scottish?) youtuber who grows plants on wood planks and she air layers her plant every time it starts to exceed the pole. because the moment you propogate your plant and it has to push out/develop roots fro scratch, it will actually revert a bit. air layering helps you avoid that. i’m currently doing it with MY silver sword rn so that i can keep it mature 😍
That is SO cool! Also thanks for the suggestion - I have been following Plant Life In The Tropics (Caitlin) who also happens to be Scottish and does plants on planks/air layering 😂 so cool!
Here in England we call bangs a "fringe" haha
Cute earrings!
Thank you!! :)
Good evening ❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️
What is the name of the plant that is right in front of the house plant book on the shelf behind you. OMG it looks so cool and
Unique. By the way I love your videos .
My sad Micans looks exactly the same! Haven’t figured out why yet.
Ahhh!! Glad I’m not alone lol
Mine looked like that bc it had hidden thrips ;O
@@jennifer2014g I thought that was maybe it but I’ve started regularly treating my plants with systemic. It’s been 2 months or more without any change in its appearance.
27:48 it's not Philodendron panduriforme, it's Philodendron bipennifolium.
I'm just super curious and want to know/help you figure it out 😂
Ahhhh idk how they got that brandi so full and lush. Mine just keeps putting out smaller and smaller leaves.
That’s how my first one was 😩
I just have one question. House plants(most of them) thrive in a humid high temperature environment. I as a human being can't survive in humid hot summer without an air conditioner(which crisps up my houseplants and kills em). Is it possible for both of us to find a common ground to co-exist?
Picking my favorite Philo is impossible but I’m such a sucker for velvety leaves 😅
Question: I keep seeing the orchid pots being used for other plants, curious how that’s working out for people, I’m worried about the soil drying out to fast!?
The plastic ones dry out extremely fast and you have to bottom water to get the soil totally saturated. I wouldn’t suggest it honestly :p (the pot that holds the billetiae is what I’m referring to). Terra cotta orchid pots are totally fine though! Love them for my houseplants
Does anyone know anything about the string of pearls behind her on the shelf? They look fake, but regardless they’re beautiful and I’m just curious about them!! ❤
I gave my medium size Silver sword away thinking I like it but its too common and then when I saw Fern's specimen I regret it
She has influenced so many of us 😂😂
My huge, beautiful Mican just died. I still do not know the culprit. It started getting brown spots, but I couldn't find any bugs.....maybe fungus, IDK. My condolences:(
That Crassinervium is like bunny ears 😉
Hehe yes!! 🐰
