    Trouble is, if your opponent is any good at fighting, he will be subtle about it! Awareness is everything. Predicting a sucker punch and blocking it in time can save your life.
    In this video, Nick explains visual cues that usually precede a sucker punch -- ones that can't be concealed. Watch out for distance from you to the attacker; movement in the hips and shoulders is also a big pointer (that's where any solid strike starts).
    Focus on the opponent's body language and stay alert about what's going on around you - then nothing will take you by surprise!

    you'll never be able to see a sucker punch. so what you have to do is train your face to be as hard as a rock. one good way i train is by grabbing a brick and hitting my face with it hundreds of times a day so that i could build calluses all over my face.

    That isn't a sucker punch, a sucker punch comes from the side, or from behind. This is a non-square punch, meaning that the person isn't squaring up or giving notice that he is going to fight. A sucker punch usually comes from a by-stander or from someone coming out of nowhere to strike you without warning. A sucker punch can almost never be defended, unless you have lightning fast reflexes and can see them coming.

      Exactly right. Knowing when the fight begins is key. Not doing the “monkey dance” and realizing when the person closes the distance is when the fight begins... in this presented scenario the fight already began when they squared off.

      Be aware of your surroundings, when having an argument with a guy, be sure to keep your back close to the wall at all times, best place to be standing would be a corner, chances of getting sucker punched by the guy you didn’t notice will go down.

    Very good advice; as it's part of my job I practice sucker punches, but however hard I try I know there's no such thing as a completely 'unadvertised' punch. What I have discovered is that the best way to hit with the least warning is to strike in the middle of your own sentence. Your words can be pretty much rubbish as long as your opponent is engaged in listening to you and is ...waiting for the end of the sentence. Stay safe !

    The term “sucker punch” apparently has several different meanings but to the average person it usually refers to surprise punch. In other words someone might punch you while you are reading a text message or while you have your back turned. Anyway, as there can be no “defense” against something that you have no idea is coming, the title of this video is rather silly.

    I was walking home from school when I was 13 when one of two guys sucker punched me with an overhand right to the right side of my jaw almost from behind me. I didn't even see them but it must have been an arm punch because it didn't phase me and I jabbed the guy off and knocked him down with a left hook as he stupidly pulled straight back. My right arm was holding my pack-pack so it didn't come into play. I didn't want to fight two guys, nor turn my back on them so I stopped there and spoke calmly to them until they walked away. The guy who didn't hit me must have been around 20 as he had a lot of stubble, baggy clothes and looked like a jobless loser. He was smiling the whole time and quite a bit bigger than me. The guy who hit me was a little older than me and never said a word. He just looked angry. Guess I got lucky he wasn't trained or he could have broken my jaw. I was a little sore but not as much as a sparring session. Anyway, since I didn't see them, there was no defense against that I could offer to prevent the initial punch, just a counter attack. I think they were watching for someone to walk by and knock out and randomly choose me. To this day when I walk down the street I'm acutely aware of my surroundings and unless I'm running, almost stalk. Guess that's the trepidation of knowing what could happen.

I fell to the ground and all my stuff went flying in the air. I seen them walking up but since I hand never seen them in my life I wasn't paying attention to them. I looked up to him and he just said sorry I confused you with someone else and kept walking. My friend was already across the street. He told me the man just went straight for me. +Jose Ontiveros Sorry... glad you weren't seriously hurt. Worst happen to my buddy Gar who was riding his bike. He got sucker punched by a someone he didn't see so the force of the bike and force of the punch then hitting the back of his head on the pavement knocked him out. He didn't remember anything else. His bike and belongings were gone and his eye was swelled up like an alien when he woke up. I'm not sure if he went to the hospital or not but he didn't expect it. It's as if we have to be expect it or be aware at all times, especially when we're kids... like James said... but in my case the guy who hit me was behind me and came from in between two run down apartment complexes. I didn't see them or anyone before but they must have seen me. But I was just a kid like you were and my friend was... he was a little older, actually. But still... the world's dangerous. Especially for kids and women.

    Sucker punch is the one where you already got hit and don't even know how it happened because that's what the attacker wanted, you just didn't see it coming. This is defense against possible or expected punch. Once you are in that situation, isn't it better that you strike first instead of blocking it?

  • @turbochevelle5641
    @turbochevelle5641 7 років тому +8

    All good info, and being aware of body language is a key but there is no such thing as a suckered punch when you are eye to eye with a person. This lesson is more about telegraphing based on body language not suckered punching. A true suckered punch cannot be defended because it can't be seen coming. If you are in someone's face and they hit you then you just got hit not sucker punched. Again good info from a body language and telegraphing, not taking away from that at all. I just think too many people have redefined the term sucker punched to make an excuse for getting their ass whipped. The minute you decide to stand face to face with someone in a confrontation situation you have to be a man and assume the possible risk of being struck and own your decision.

    Excellent video and well said. I really like your word RANGE. Good to teach. As with most 'situations' I typically tell the guy/threat don't get too close to me. I literally say "Don't come within reach of me", bc once inside the radius of arms and reach the the threat gets real and imminent, so my first defense is to go on offense and land a strike. With that being said/implemented it usually deescalates rather quickly if not neutralized. Key point being RANGE. Thx for the vid

    Haha a better video would be "how to recover quickly from a sucker punch before the guy finishes you off" The whole point of a sucker punch is that you can't defend against it because you don't see it coming. Thats the whole danger of the sucker punch and to be a sucker punch in my opinion you have to get hit by it, hard. If the person sees it coming and has a chance to block it its not a sucker punch anymore. This is a really good video, but if I was making a sucker punch video, it would involve getting hit hard no matter what, and then teaching people how to not go down from that hit and to recover and try to fight the person off long enough to escape (yes not kick their ass, escape from the situation)

      tankmaster1018 Most videos that I see that address the subject, assume that there is some kind of confrontation before the actual attack. If that is the case, a safe distance is maintained between you and any potential attacker using your arms. Some times beating him to the punch if you will, would be used; using a sucker punch on him. Of course this wouldn't work if some one hit you with out any warning. Geoff Thompson self defence expert subscribes to this way of self defence.

  • @chasepotter2376
    @chasepotter2376 7 років тому +4

    You were already leaning forward and showing all, and some, of the signs that you're about to throw a strike. Which completely out laws the idea of countering your opponents strike when they're already assuming you're about to throw a punch. When taught how to defend from a sucker punch, you're taught to know the body movements and behavior. When you're taught to throw the first punch, or like some people would say even if it's justified, "a sucker punch" you learn that you should never make a single movement before striking. Your arms should look completely relaxed and normal to your side, and your fist shall go from where it's relaxed, straight forward to your opponents chin. No cocking back or nothing. Just straight to their face like it was magnetized to his jaw. Knowing that will definitely out rule this lesson here because anybody defending the way you're teaching it here, would get hit quickly by someone who knows this.

      HicksZ34 "Like a man" made up concepts of masculinity. Gun is smarter than no gun. You purposefully eschew the most practical weapon for some pulled out the ass sense of "honor", therefore you are dumb. It's not about who's the biggest meathead either, it's about citizens having the right to defend themselves against these attackers. Can catch bullets with your bare hands? Didn't think so. And why would anyone listen to you? "Put their guns down and fight like men." Soldiers fight with guns, are you call them pussies too? Since when does weapon=pussy? If you're willing to fight in any way that's OPPOSITE of fear. Of course they wouldn't be shit without the gun but that's how they know how to fight, because they're too stupid and poor to learn how to actually fight. You have to adapt to face your attacker, not assume the attacker will adopt your bullshit "honor code" lol that's how you die.

    I'm not trying to be a hater, but I don't buy this. How can you realistically defend against to punch you don't see coming? The only thing you can really do is be aware of your surroundings, look for body language as the guy says, don't let the guy get to close to you and try to look out for his friends who will most likely sucker punch. In fact the guy says in the beginning of the video he was caught off guard and sucker punched. If you see it coming it's not a sucker punch thats why its called a sucker punch.

      2ksf I understand what you are saying, but, how can a person expect the sucker punch unless you are face to face with the sucker puncher? That is where the stance and brace comes into play. I've seen videos where someone standing along side of an unwary punchee get clobbered and hurt real bad. It's the sneak-up that has my racist anger popping. I'm at the point that I don't trust any black, man or woman, and find myself putting my hand on the butt of a pistol under my shirt whenever they come near me. Call it paranoia, whatever.

( But this time he's way off track & nonsensical ) I agree ( gave your comment a like ) with you there is nothing you can do about a sucker punch except to expect that it could happen and if your awareness skills are good & you intercept the punch then it's not a sucker punch ! Or in other words Sucker punches land their target all the time period !

      its not racist. stereotyping is created by the stereotypes and not by the people who have had countless actions, general methods, main interactions and an alarming number of facts that present all the same conclusion. So yes, if 4 black men are walking on the street, I wont move to the other side because they are black but because of the great possibility that I will get jumped and stabbed is very high. Thats not racist that me looking at for my own safety due to the latter explanation.

    • @bagotoetags801

      ***** You misunderstood the comment about 'walking down the street'. If a white kid, not me, who was lost in a black neighborhood; he may not get out unharmed or robbed. There are videos on u-tube showing just that. (WHITE TEEN BEING ATTACKED FROM BEHIND BY BLACK) Of course, I made my typical racist comments about whitey arming themselves for the race war being waged on America's streets right now.
      I avoid black areas because I know the inherent violent bad intentions of blacks in their own turf, besides, I'm big and can hold my own and know how to fight and I don't leave the house un-armed.
      Crime is a byproduct of many factors and the racial makeup of the criminal covers all ethnicities. The black man dominates the people in prisons due to crime.
      Hate crimes are atrocious and will never be forgotten, therefore racism will always be. The sneak sucker punch is the latest of violent acts the white man will never forget and will cause more acts of revenge against the black man, especially when a family member gets attacked.
      The 100 year old white woman who was knocked down for her lunch in New York was enough for me to hate the black man Today, I cannot have anything to do with blacks without thinking they want me dead.
      Calling me a racist has no effect any more. It is a word the black man uses to incite guilt and doubt about the white man's own character and race. The black man who says he is incapable of being racist is lying through his teeth. The black man hated whitey since the early Eighteenth Century and hasn't let up since. We will never get along, we will never trust each other and until one or the other is obliterated from this planet; we will have hate and animosity and racism.
      Why can't you and black people in general have nothing to do with white people? Don't do business with whitey, don't talk to whitey, don't have any interaction with whitey and you and the black race will feel better about yourselves.
      You mentioned the white man is enslaving the black for four hundred years. Where? And, what is the one exception? Jews?
