Sucker Punch Defense to Guillotine with Eli Knight & Shane Fazen

  • It was an honor to get to collaborate with Shane Fazen of FightTIPS recently in a seminar at Fit to Fight®️ in Charlotte, NC along with Ryan Hoover as well. It was also great to get to make a couple of videos with him like this one here.
    This is a progression from the beginning of a defensive situation versus someone swinging a sucker punch. Shane shows a very effective strategy to cover and crash the range into clinch and I show options off the guillotine.

      Eli you're like * *tenth planet* * joke coming --- your ideas are just custom made for something you're on another planet ** har har it's different I wonder where the inspiration comes from I liked your deep underhook ideas and other self defense in the past.
      I understood what you meant too with the posture ... I've gotten out of headlocks in fights to win from behind and on top grappling and I have lost with it myself standing with the old uppercut to the junk. Ow. They say that's ineffective let me try it on you it is ineffective IN THEORY in reality that hurts badly.
      I don't get in a lot of spat's and instead of always those blocks I tend to connect Kung Fu to bjj and even aikido yes aikido, military style, but aikido. When you are switching to the 100 percent or the stocks ... The secret is to keep the space closed.
      Usually when the lock breaks I'm getting through to the rear or getting a shot maybe.
      That's an import defense actually.
      It's not the stocks that are doing the work though it is it's the closed space and energy.
      Great advice!
      That is tough though it's troubling if your grip starts to weaken, they have options if they control your arm.
      That's good I like that previously I dropped to a lower front headlock control a good option though.
      This is better.

    I can attest that the elbow defense shown here works *great* I've defended with it when I was assaulted at work and I saw a young lady (15-ish) drop a guy with it in a parking lot a year later: the asshole was a lot taller, and she drove her elbow right into his chest. IDK what she hit exactly, but he collapsed and didn't get up; he just sort of stayed curled up and moaned a lot. It is awesome to see reputable people like Shane and Eli showing basic skills like this. ^_^

    Love the team up!! Two of my favorite channels :) Also, a small note on the skulls anatomical structure: there are three points on the head that are the hardest (best for striking with lowest chance of cracking the skull). These are the area just above the hairline (not the direct top of the head where the two halves of the skull meet) and the upper corners of the back of the skull (near the center of the parietal). To those reading, remember that striking with these parts of the skull does not protect you from spinal injuries if you don't have the proper structure!

    Technical question for Eli: I always have trouble finishing guillotines, particuarly when you haven't punched your arm in as deep. With the choke here, are you using the same arm to cut off both carotids, or are you using the far side arm to get the far side carotid? Any advice for finishing guillotines in general because they just never work out for me. Thanks again for the amazing collab guys!

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  5 років тому +2

      It's hard to put many details in writing, but I would say that keeping your pec on the back of the neck, concentrating on that high elbow for the assisting arm, and using a scooping and compressing motion for the choking arm are key points. As for the carotid question, one arm suppresses the blood flow on both sides. The assisting arm just assists. Hope this helps.

    This is a fine video for protecting yourself from a hard right hand punch. The problem is, if this was really a "sucker punch," unfortunately from my experience, I block it with my face because I did not see it coming. If I have time, I've succesfully ducked the punch to avoid the fight, or block with left arm on their forearm and my right hitting their punching shoulder to stop their power. Then I can attack with a variety of techniques, usually an elbow strike to the face if I don't want to go to the ground. After that do what you can, whatever you are comfortable with and do well.

    I appreciate the self-defense. We need more of it. Your fight stance was threatening and you are only prepared if the fighter is right handed. You also did not consider you distance. I highly recommend you review the some of Helio Gracie's techniques from his grandsons in Torrence, CA or the Valente Brothers in Florida. Please continue to bring awareness to an important aspect of jiu jitsu.

      I have trained in Helio Gracie Jiu-Jitsu lineage under Royce for over 20 years and trained quite a bit with many members of the Gracie family in that time including The Valente brothers as well as Rener and Ryron. I am currently a 2nd degree black belt under Royce.
      Not sure why you’re saying I am only prepared if the person is right handed. We demonstrated this from orthodox lead, yes. And Shane clearly discusses distance when he mentions the details to covering and closing the distance.

    • @cclay7263
      @cclay7263 5 років тому

      @@KnightJiuJitsu The constructive criticism is was directed toward Shane's sucker punch defense. The techniques IMHO are some great fighting concepts especially in MMA and valid. They didn't represent what I have trained, experienced first hand and studied in Helio Gracie's Master text. there is no doubt you both are awesome practitioners so the resume doesn't matter. @ironmikehallowween 5 років тому

      Randall Vincent yep. I have seen all these types of demonstrations suggesting that you have time to do this or that, and it may work against a slow, drunk, or clumsy, opponent. But if your Adversary is quick, it will not work. I have been a bouncer for many years and have seen this many times in real life. The best tactic if someone is moving towards you in an aggressive manner is to move laterally, dip, or slip, and deliver the counter as if the attack has already begun, because it has. Do not get hit first. Do not allow yourself to be in a position where you are relying on evasion after a punch has been thrown. It will not work.

It was an old wrestling move that's rarely used by anyone with a sprawl. It was pretty uncomfortable, not a submission, but you end in full mount.
    Does this have name? Is it a trained technique in any grappling ma?

The pressure keeps them from penetrating the underhook is a stocks 100 percent you can do that holding their other arm but the trick is dont allow space if they weaken your grip and control your arm - which this counters- you might have just lost they can get big advantage that close with two on one grips I always do.
    But Eli knows what to watch for and is going to be successful.
