- Two words: low kick. When it comes to blocking wild punches and haymakers, one miscalculation can result in you getting hit. JOIN THE HERO PROGRAM - nickdrossos.com/7-days-free-t... .
So, instead of entering the range of the punches and risking injury, do something different - counter with a low kick, prevent the attacker from getting closer! Throw him off balance, THEN enter with punches and trapping moves.Subscribe to Nick Drossos: ua-cam.com/users/subscription_c....

The most dangerous fighter is the guy who doesnt know how to fight.
😂😂
Actually really true, I've been training mma for years and I fought some kid who was wild and he caught me more than anyone else I've ever fought, kicks kept distance well but there is still some punches you don't expect
Haha
Drawl Ball Jamal true bro
Bullshit. A seasoned wrestler can slam non fighter guy
Very good work BUT, i disagree highly with stating that elbow blocks do not work. Ive used in many real street fights and when a person is swinging wild like that all you have to do sometimes is raise your elbows and an attacker will end up damaging his own fists by jamming it into your elbows. It may not work for everyone, its not the technique, its what works for the individual. Excellent principles though!
but what about using elbow as shield and closing in to use a shoulder strike?
This can work but it takes too much timing
Most of those guys arent gaurding there lower body the stomach groin and knees are wide open and most won't expect to get they're leg swept either
You ever hit your funny bone? That shit can make any man temporarily disabled.

My advice: develop some boxing skills and have someone practice wild haymakers on you. You probably can achieve good results within 3 - 6 months.
As clearly demonstrated in this video, the wild haymaker punchers often time have no defense. They're too busy flailing their arms at you while charging into you, often times exposing their centerline - thus, giving you the opportunity to 1-2 them with the common jab - straight right combo. With their momentum coming into you, it will be even easier to knock them out.
Experienced boxers are capable of firing off a 1-2 combo in less than a second and get back quickly into a defensive guarded position.
That's actually some really good advice. Solid.
+Phil Ster I'd be worried about a lucky hit on my mouth or nose so I'd feel more comfortable closing in fast so they can't make those wild haymakers.
+Phil Ster hey ,if anyone else is searching for self defence course try Lomonting Survival Situations Mentor (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my co-worker got excellent results with it.
Phil Ster i fought one of those before, and you're absolutely right,it didn't take longer then 10 sec i hurt him really bad cuz his ribs and face were exposed while he was being wild with a lead jab+rear straight+left uppercut.
The most practical and realistic self defense videos on youtube. Took me 4 years to find him.
"Any commitment automatically opens an invitation or target area." - Bruce Lee
If they're swinging like that, they sure as hell aren't guarding well. Duck, jab to gut. Parry right/left, hook to head.
Good job Nick! Spectacular 123 patterns of self-defense in most MA schools won't work in streetfights. I'm downloading your video clips & I'll pass them on to my eldest son who lives in the city. He learned only the basics from me, but when he studied in college until he worked, we didn't have much time to practice streetfighting. I'm glad I can give him a shortcut through your vids. The street is like a jungle w/ a variety of ferocious animals, each one has its own fighting style.
This guy keeps it simple and practical.
Great videos btw, one of the only self-defence teachers that speaks the truth!
Great video!! I'd always was wondering what to do in this situation, THANKS!!!
Wow Nick, this is a wild throw back. I just found a this video from 4 years ago. By the video... great advice.
This is one of the most useful videos for self defence I've ever seen. Thanks again =)
Lol not really
nick you are the reall deal my man
These videos are great. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for sharing all this knowledge!
I have been in a couple street fights; personally, I like the lead palm to control the head and blind the attacker, quickly driving the opponent into a position where you can quickly administer a choke hold and then work the liver with strikes. I'm speaking in terms of extremely close quarters where boxing is a no go but punches, elbows and knees are applicable. In these situations, the action happens so fast, you may lose balance so the lead palm to the face can be a great counter/set up to regain the upper hand and finish the action! I bested a man on a public bus in this fashion; after delivering liver shots I was able to deliver ounces to the guys face and dand a boot to the chest for good measure! Mindset is key also! You HAVE to be willing to accept punishment to give punishment in close quarters!
thank you man. very practical and mind opening video!!
I'd like to.... Oh shit! Are u ok?
*subscribed* as soon as I heard the concept of "forward-pressure;" truly combative. ;)
love your videos nick, subscribing for sure
Thanks for the videos , keep them comeing :)
With boxing and other combat situations, You should be focused on what parts of their body moves to minimize your reaction time and make it faster because you’ll see a punch coming far before it lands. distance management and reaction time goes hand in hand. A lot of people will be wildly punching, but remember that they only have two arms and so do you. Anyways, I’d say that there are three places in which you can strike a person on the arms in a combat scenario from a punch and you can do that in a number of ways by using blocks coming from a guard and strikes, and the three places would have to be the fists, the forearms, and the upper arms (triceps and biceps). (However this is a defense against straight punches, not haymakers). When you see wild punches coming at you, you could do a number of things since they cannot kick while doing their punching. Weaken the core with a kick to the solar plexus or groin to bend the person downwards to help you work a technique or finish the fight, or use modern boxing guards/panantukan counters against wild punches and open the centerline for strikes and takedowns or work an angle if you choose to use the upper body (fists) to attack them depending on the punch type. With distance management, you know the distance In which your reflexes will actually see the punch coming and be ready to stop it using the training you’ve done to do that. People can actually throw punches out really far. To see this, just extend your arm out to its maximum distance, then push the scapula forward, then twist the hips and lean forward and you’ll see your maximum punching distance, doesn’t matter if it’s a haymaker, Jab, or cross. You can control the distance and respond. A good base won’t be weakened while controlling distance and stopping punches and you won’t get thrown over, if you do, it’s rolling techniques from there which should be effective and leave the other person either unconscious, or with broken limbs and torn ligaments. BJJ fighters are good at rolling, I’d recommend you learn BJJ if you live in a bad neighborhood as well. Now, go learn and go spar!
Hey Nick,
Would the distance, timing, or venue make a leg take-down practical? In your experience, at what point in the fight do untrained fighters throw punches in bunches?
that low kick is legit. does the job proven personal experience . great vids
Solid advice. I have a western-thai boxing background with jkd-wingchun mixed in, and you train so much on *proper* striking techniques, hours just on a jab alone, and that is fantastic. But if you have to face someone on the street who has not trained, he just a scrappy streetfighter, be prepared to see these wild punches. And its what makes some of these encounters so dangerous if you are not prepared. So very good info in this video, simple straight forward strategy that can save your bacon.
this is exactly what I've been looking for
that is what bruce lee taught. intercept the nearest target which is the knee.
great vids mate! subscribed.
Mr. Drossos, again what can I say...Totally awesome! I agree 100%. Its exactly what I taught my wife (who works as a security officer at a casino). A low kick allows a person who's being pummeled from wild punches to break the rhythm and/or attention of the attacker and can help create a way to hit back the attacker. After all, the attacked can't sit there all day trying to block "wild monkey" type punches. LOL at the wild monkey part! But, seriously though, you are right. And you're also right about distance management. Thanks again!
practical and realistic as always, thanks again!
Love it..keepem comin!
i love watching your videos, it is being realistic.
Good to see you making vids again :D
Man, is more close to reality video of how to fight ive seen... :) keep the good work
excellent advice.
Awesome , look forward to more
Very good advice
Amazing video!
Cool, thanks for the info.
Love these vidoes! got my sub!
Great information.
Generally speaking; not a bad video demonstration. Short, informative and to the point.
It’s easy to show and make any fight techniques look effective by slow motion step by step movements.
Instead, put gloves and head gear on; invite a boxer youve NEVER sparred with before; then have him attack FULL SPEED while you TRY your techniques.
Then, the video would actually show us what “works” and does NOT “work” on wild swinging punches that are VERY COMMON in street fights.
In stead of wasting our time
Great vid.
This guy is amazing at this
Yes good to see you posting again nick.what happn to those helmets you were going to produce
kickass vid thnx for info
My favorite thing to do is step back and land a sidekick. Just create enough seperation. Most common is footwork, slip, and throw a boxing combination. If you can use trapping and move his body to the side then he's really done for. Good Video. Always enjoy them
Great video
great lesson Nick! Greetings from Greece! (Χαιρετίσματα από Ελλάδα!)
What do you do after you have moved in and entered?
Great videos Nick. Very useful and practical instructions !
The low kick, followed by going in is the key, indeed.
thanks for the videos I have subscribed
Great move. As you move in, the attacker's punch will have less momentum(if you back off, it will gain good velocity and thus have more power.), so even if you are hit by one or two, you will survive that. Same thing applies when you move forward to defend a stick attack and block and then lock the attacking arm.
Nick I know this is an old video but I just found your channel. What is your opinion on the defense when you cover your face with your foremarms and plunge yourself into your opponents head/chest and as you hit immediately start striking or go for the face/eyes and push him back to take him down? The idea is, apart from being very easy to execute under stress, it breaks the attackers fighting spirit to have you go forward and into him, he's not picturing that in his head he is picturing you moving backwards and taking his hits.
The best defense is to parry while moving outside the attacking hand. Leaving not only the attacker open for attack but also disallowing a follow up with the spare hand. He can still hit you but not before you can hit him leaving him dazed.
All the street fights I see recorded from real life are like this where the people are wildly swinging as fast as they can. I agree that closing in and using a kick are good ideas.
that position after your front kick is perfect for a knee or head kick.
Hey nick, does this mean that the elbow block for hooks and haymakers as such is useless? I was wondering if I should stop using it in training if it wont be effective in a real fight
The best ways to beat a wild punches blocking punches and kick him and the Nuts and move around hook and uppercut him and go for the double leg takedowns,
This will come in handy, I like the push kick below the hip to throw them off balance
Good advice
Your're a great trainer!
I like the low kick starter, that shit really works. As for the blocking @2.00, you could cover up for a shot or 2, then burst out with a simple 2 armed push to make space. I've actually done that before, and followed up with a huge straight kick to the gut that put him down for the night.
Very very true stuff. This can save your life or whoever's you're with.
Good advice - realistic - street wise..
For this I highly recommend learning Judo. I suggest do the blocking and coming in close tactic then doing an Ippon Seoi Nage or an Koshi Garuma. I think I highly recommend Koshi Garuma.
I know I sound kind-of... Karate kid wanna be right now but the fact is, training in MiYama-Ryu Ju Jitsu for 2, 3 years gets you thinking a lot.
Yeah I do judo. Seoi nage is useful. Also ogoshi but it’s time consuming. Kongo guruma can be useful but you have to wrap your hand around there head. They will probably peel your arm if you do that
Yeah, because people would rather watch self defense videos that are flashy. That's why this doesn't get any views, which is just sad.
Guy is really great! If there is one thing I do not like to see is techniques not being tested and not using up-to-date stuff, i.e. 2010 or later.
Great, great videos man! A rarity, straightforward and most important, FREE!
So thank you!
Good info
Hallo! You always have good and realistic advice. I have seen you in The Shredder Dvds with Richard Dimitri. What do you think about The Shredder concept?.
I used to slapbox alot as a kid. And I learned to step in stay close, use hooks then control distance, windmills with fists can be "cutters" don't think anyone can be knocked out by em but it'll be annoying for sure. They can't see anything honestly
nice tip, dude
Hey nick i was wondering if you can make a video on how o get out of a chokehold from behing in a street fight, whenever you get a chance please.
Very realistic thanks
Very good logic!
Thanks!
Left or right lateral movements will counter wild punches. He expends energy and you watch for any opening to kick or punch.
Would this work against some one almost twice your size
That hip kick is a great technique of savate, stop the oponent movement and break his balance.
Very efective.
great vid, bonus for the guy in the hollow mask shirt lol
so teeps from muay thai will work too?
intercept nice nick!!!
That was good advice. Even better if the defender trained his arms like martial artist do, I forget what it's called but they face each other and hit each other's arms to condition them. I've done it a few times and it bloody hurts when they are experienced . Also highly rate the low kicks my favourite is knee attacks and best bit us they can't see it coming. Anyway great vid for defending against a swinger:)
LOL I know exactly what you're talking about, I've seen people who practice Wing-Chun and other forms of kung-fu do it, and you're right it KILLS the forearms but its really good at conditioning them to take hard hits
That's hubad from kali
Oh and when you kick,do you prefer to kick with the heel or the ball of the foot?
What I found so interesting is that the blocks transitioning to a clinch almost looks kind of like Karate/Kung fu
Would a groin kick or a knee kick work as well as a push kick,or would those be more likely to miss? Good technique btw
"Shit sorry u ok?"😂😂😂
How about going in with a jump kick? I don't mean a high jump kick, just a swift jump kick to the hip area straight-forward?
Eye opening stuff. The problem is that you're a seasoned, experienced, fighter (and physically fit beyond belief). Whereas I'm a middle-aged bloke, slightly overweight and I had one punch-up 30 years ago at school!! I'd get killed if I tried some of these moves! Very interesting though.
How to abandon common wisdom touted by boxers and get your ass kicked by throwing your hands up and leaving your chin wide open.
Good point. But this video is based on untrained fighters throwing wild flailing strikes. 1. I would not try to box a trained boxer. It would not end well for me. I would use different tactics which would include grappling, painful gouging and biting, and kicking low. 2. While a boxer is probably best at footwork, he cannot completely avoid the ground fight. If the opponent is slow then the boxer will just dance circles around him and knock him out, but if the person has even slight shoot training- then it's going to the ground. 3. His friends will shut down all the boxing skills in a single rush. Game over.
MURDR63 how many boxers do you meet in a street fight?
😂😂. foreal lol
Pretty good video. But elbows can work well if you train them. If a super light guy or girl wants to get a powershot in they might have to depend on elbow leverage to bring a guy down. I much rather kick them into my preffered distance but if the kick fails I would feel comfortable landing elbows in super close range. I gaurentee the elbow will be more powerful than his haymaker. I dont like to say "Never do this" because everything has a use.
top notch
I see the Ichigo hollow mask on his shirt. That's cool.
nick how about using a kali style/mma cover with left hand holding back of neck (krav maga call it rhino) and also have the right hand/arm around the face area or covering right temple and just burst as soon as you see their attack or movement. Its a one technique fits all type thing. You burst in immediately and its fight over
I come from a Jujitsu background, but drawing on my early days of training tangsoodo, a well placed side kick would stop any wild punches in this instance, as long as the opponent isn't charging at you and can knock you off balance. Most importantly, know your body type, your strengths, and your wealnesses and taylor your fighting style accordingly. Do what works, and know what works with proper analyzation and training.
The elbow works and it bloks ALL blows (Hooks and straight punches) sometimes upercuts.
Wem i spared with fast agressive guys from my kickboxing school it worked well but they soon learn to bo to the body and come up with the upercut to lift the head then the hook .
So it work it is THE BEST UPPER BODY defence beter then pary .
But i dont advize in uzing it more then once in a fight
this is where the headbuts come in handy
he mentioned headbuts mb
When I trained Krav Maga we would do partner drills where one throws haymakers and the other blocks. Unless you're blackout drunk or experiencing hulk like rage the pain of having a full force haymaker blocked will make you reconsider your fighting style.

Elbow block same arm 3pcs combo and a pawn or Poke to the eye
Awesome
