I'm enjoying your videos. Thanks. 63 here and a prime target for the "knockout game". Earned my Black Belt in Taekwondo after 8 years of training (competition and instructing-of course) in 2002. So working on the skills I let go in the past 10 years. Your defense against a sucker punch is almost exactly how I practice every morning on the heavy bag before breakfast. Drop into a fore balance while tucking the chin into the shoulder and bringing a hand up to cover the ear and temple, aiming the forehead at the punch. Already torqued up for a hammer fist or inside knife hand strike, then combo follow ups, including elbow. I can vouch first hand for the forehead. In the 80's I was jumped by 3 guys. Two grabbed an arm on each side while the 3rd guy (who I'd already ruined with a punch) began punching my face. With both arms restrained, I took 1-2 punches before starting to try to headbutt their punches. lol I really do believe they got the worst end of it. Also, there are accounts going back decades of people being shot in the forehead and the bullet traveling just under the skin, around the skull.

I was in downtown San Jose last week and got sucker punched. I was inebriated. I was outside at 11pm. I was distracted on my phone. I was wearing a burgundy button up long sleeve shirt outside of Mama Kin's club. All I did was exit my Lyft and pull my phone out to text my friends who were en route on bicycles, and someone sucker punched me, and when they realized they'd neglected to phase me, they ran so fast that I didn't even see them! Lesson learned. Thanks for this video, you're exactly right. By the way, I've been training for a long time and had that person stuck around, I have no doubt that they'd be recuperating right now.
I was sucker punched. Turned away from the person and got hit on the jaw as I was turning back. Broken jaw, titanium plate and screws. Lot’s of lessons learned. I know I made a ton of mistakes during the whole altercation. Won’t happen again.
Situational awareness or presense of mind, quick physical reactions or reflexes, and decent fight skills are (obviously) key to avoid getting sucker-punched
Actually it's not sucker punch if you can see it. But yeah, what to do if it fails and you see it in time, then good advices. Main issue always is to keep certain distance if possible, if aggressive people close. And always count +1. If one attacks and you can handle it, always keep in mind, that there can be someone else attacking, at least 1 and maybe more. Outside gyms/dojos fair game isn't name of the game.
@@BudoBrothers absolutely! We should focus more on long term rewards then on all these short dopamin kicks. I started the endless blanket (#unendlicheDecke) in 2017. we‘re often too much focused on the outcome, then on the path to our destination and the making 🙂
The way you deal with a sucker punch is by learning a combat sport that involves getting punched in the face... and actually sparring a few times. Only experience will prepare you for the onslaught that is an actual fight. Nobody "rises to the occasion" in a fight.... everyone sinks to the level of their training and experience. If your actual experience getting punched in the face is 0, expect to act like someone who's a fish out of water. All this "if he does this, you do that" slow motion make believe will just get people hurt by thinking they can actually handle a situation like this.
"All this "if he does this, you do that" slow motion make believe will just get people hurt by thinking they can actually handle a situation like this." So what's the alternative? To not attempt to anticipate threats and counter them? Seems like any study or practice is better than none at all.
I've met multiple people who have been shot in the manner described in the video. Two of them it was a .38, the other was a .25 ACP. The bullets tumbled under the skin and exited towards the rear. Handguns in general aren't that terribly powerful, and most handgun slugs have a terrible ballistic coefficient.
I'm 135lbs. Was at a bar. Went outside. Some big guy probably 250lbs suckered me 6 times. Had to many drinks to react fast enough.... didn't file charges but ended up kidney shot an knee to face an left as he had 3 friends running at me then. They caught up am got the back of my head. Tried to kill me...

I been in this situation a few times.. I seen one attack coming at me. And the other attack I didn't see coming.. and that was the one that dropped me for 5 seconds too long. But he was a good guy and let me get up. Lol idiot 🤣 my turn ×10 finish Him 🤣 . It takes a real strong azz man to fight 💪🏾 on his back 😤 and flip the script from bottom to top. With total control of the other man's hands. Takes a lot of energy and strength 💪🏾 💯 ✨️ 😌 🙏🏾 and yes the most high
do you really think it's more efficient to redirect their forward energy down after blocking it up, instead of just blocking it out to their left/your right? I like your arm position with your right making contact on their left first with your left supporting it from behind/on top. however, it's easier to block it to their outside and come straight in with a straight left, then overhand right while shielding with the left, and then vice-versa. staying in front of your attacker is never a good idea, which makes the wing chun chain punching stuff very danergerous.
The 9mm story was true. As a medic I ran a “suicide” GSW to the head with a .357. Cops were there so I walked in without my bag figuring “this will be quick” (ie they are dead, write the report)…. Nope it had done the some thing!!! Sure if she fired at a 90 degree angle she would have been dead, but the angle she fired caused it to be deflected and came out behind the ear. I know of another call when I was working (but I wasn’t the medic) where it happened with a .22 LR too. So I 100% believe that story… if the guy was bending down charging or whatever, I can easily see the angle being shallow enough for that.
I have never ever seen a punch from nowhere. I mean ,i am german, what do i know... But there was always blabadiblabablub or eye contact before the actual party. If you act cocky and watch the stars after... Hm...🤣
Don't let anyone you don't ever get close enough to do it. That's the only real way to prevent it. The type of person who would do it only has to catch you not paying attention for a second. You have to maintain guard at all times. So keep people you don't know out of the circle. In lieu of that a few thousand hours spent in a boxing or kickboxing gym will get you to the point where you dodge punches by reflex action.
