You forgot to mention the heat- I mean don't get me wrong, everyone knows Texas is hot, but this summer was hot on steroids. It was so hard this summer to be motivated when it felt like the elements were so against us! From a content perspective-- you are one of the few 8B gardeners I've found and so that is extremely helpful. Things like when you are planting, what you are planting and how you are treating your soil have been the highlights (along with processing the bounty). I always think of content creation as filling a need- so think of you as our Niall's Garden of Texas instead of Ireland. :) Also, work smarter not harder. Maybe you do a video on the best fall crops to plant now, and have a good long form video for UA-cam, edit existing clips of it to create the shorts to upload here and the other social media platforms. You are probably already doing this, but I don't follow the other SM as much because it's just like the bag of chips you described, haha. I'm super excited to hear about the flower growing in the fall season!

Hi Brook! I just want to encourage you by telling you this one small thing. Girl just do you! You have a wealth of knowledge that we new Texas growers appreciate. Beside you are very down to earth and real and I as an older person REALLY do appreciate. Any info on grape growing, orange growing plants is greatly needed. Oh and girl yes please share your sauce making recipes :)...I will be looking forward to all the new content to come. God bless you dear.

Glad you’re back & that you got some clarity during your time away. Like others, I found your channel and watch your content because I’m a fellow Texas hill country gardener and I wanted to learn from someone nearby. Our elements are so different than most other places that watching gardeners “in the south” where they get plenty of rain and normal summer temps really gave me unrealistic expectations as a new gardener.
I’ve really enjoyed seeing your expansion (something I want to do someday), soil amendments, what you’re growing, when you’re planting, and how you use your harvests. Ultimately you gotta make content that reflects you and who you are as a gardener. Best wishes ✨

I think your ideas for the channel sound fabulous. I watch because you’re keeping things real. Like me, you have a corporate job, you’re in the city, you’re living life. And growing food. Showing the how-to is one thing, but showing the successes, failures, what you like, and what you don’t like…we have to learn how to handle all that. My tiny first garden 3 summers ago, gave me 1 tomato, 1 pepper, and that was it. But I got knowledge and tried again. We keep trying knew stuff. You’re a great teacher. Plus…I’d love to see more cameos from your dogs.

Hey Brooke. I like watching your channel because it is REAL backyard gardening. This is what I greatly enjoy doing. I live on one acre of land and do raised bed and container gardening. What I do, good or bad, is what happens. It is real. I also like to teach gardening with people. I had my granddaughter for several years, playing in the dirt, watching Papa put plants in the ground, and saw a twinkle in her eye with me putting a plant in the ground. As soon as she asked why I was doing that, I knew she was hooked. This current season I have my neighbor planting and growing in my yard. She would always say she can't grow things, she has tried and everything died. I asked if she would like to garden with me. I could take all the time she needed to teach her and work with her. This season she grew and harvested nearly 100 pounds of tomatoes. All this to say, if you want to teach, DO IT. Show the en5tire process from seed starting to harvest, every week, good or bad. Explain why this worked so well, or why this didn't. I truly appreciate the people who are real. People who can show emotion, passion, about what they are doing, and please understand this, for a hobby. Life happens fast, and sometimes you need to take a break. If content creator is a good outlet for you, make time to do it. You are doing a fantastic job, I really enjoy your channel.
There is a channel I follow called "Auxhart Gardening". Rachael shows her small garden every week. Shows it all, good or bad. She also has a Masters Degree in Biology and explains the biology in what is happening.

I enjoy Hollis and Nancy Homestead's method of making end-to-end videos, but I'm sure it takes a lot of planning. Hollis has notebooks full of plans for everything he does.

I like the direction you want to go with your channel. I always appreciate Hollis and Nancy for showing a growing process from start to end. I would prefer one longer video. With busy hands, it helps not having to scroll to find the next part or for UA-cam to take me down to a different video it thinks is next.

I missed your videos! I live about 5hrs out from you and I feel like this summer was honestly just so ridiculously hot. I grew a total of 2 mammoth jalapeño peppers, about 10-12 sun gold tomatoes, zero sugar rush peach peppers(from 3 different plants)… I started my garden in June. This is my first year growing, but I feel like it was definitely a struggle summer with this heat lol. I enjoy watching your videos and I just discovered your channel like 8-ish months or so ago and I’m so glad I did! You’re one of my favorite gardening channels. The algorithm was doing its thing when it suggested one of your videos to me 😂 I see your channel’s potential following just from the content you create now, so long as you keep uploading on a regular basis. You have to think about the fact that a lot of larger UA-cam channels gained their following over the course of many many years. Just keep doing what you love to do by educating us and the numbers will rise. I’m excited to see the new stuff coming to your channel!
Also, I’d looove to see how you put together your drip irrigation. Pleaaase do a video on that from step 1 to the end because I want to install drip irrigation but I can’t figure out how even with watching other gardening channels lmao I’m struggling. I think it’d be easier for the viewer to have all of that info in one video instead of having it split into multiple videos over time, but my impatient side would love to have the videos come out separately as you do them just so I can enjoy the multiple uploads of info lol.

I’ve enjoyed watching your videos. I think my favorites are when people are genuine and I saw some of what I liked in the recent tomato taste testing with your man. I think you have some good ideas and appreciate watching something from start to finish.
This is my first year gardening on UA-cam, and it was more for me to have a general guide to my season. ( What worked, what didn’t, which location in my yard is best for my plants etc…)
However, I also want to home in on individual plants and their entire journey.
I’m excited to see what you have in store and I hope you do become a millionaire!

Hello 👋🏾 Brooke! I LOVED the transparency that you put on full display in this video. It was priceless and definitely needed. At the end of the day, be YOU and ‘F’ those numbers. They’ll come when you least expect it. A (4) part series would be great, but don’t over commit yourself. It turns out to be (2) then so be it. I’m here in full support and would subscribe to you a 1,000 times if I could. Keep your head up and stay blessed!

You are my family's favorite youtuber on gardening, my favorite period. Always thought it strange that one of you videos has not gone viral. Even on my small fairly new channel I had one video that has almost 10000 views. I think having 4 15 minutes video in parts would be better than one hour long video. Some videos I wanted to see but did not have an hour to view. There is always the chance that you would forget to watch a video you would like to see but had to wait to view due to length. Your sweet potatoes are looking good. I dug a couple of mine and they did not have any roots yet, I guess it has been too hot and dry. Sandy loam is like concrete. Been a hard summer in so many ways.

Girl, do what you have the time and energy for! I live up closer to Belton and the heat alone has made it to where my own gardens lucky if I stay out past watering in the morning for pruning, or mulching, or whatever else needs to be done because it’s just too hot to handle. I think it’d be fun to see things in parts as well as in long form. You could mix it up to match how you’re feeling or what you have going on at the moment. Sure it’s cool to see the process, but personally, I love hearing about what you have going on or about something you’ve learned/tips and tricks! I love the little chit chats cause they’re super relatable, and I think chatting about the good and the bad and the happy and the sad helps people kinda feel like they can do this on their own time ya know? Like everyone has things they’ve got going on, but spending time with yourself and developing a community of people who like to do similar things when they’re spending their own time with themselves is important. I think a lot of viewers (from reading past comments) are here for you and to hear what you have to share, growth looks and feels better when it comes naturally. Looking forward to seeing you flourish and just being yourself! Sending love to you and your family xx

So I started watching your channel because you were basically in my neck of the woods. You were like hey I know some things about gardening and some things mehhh so come journey with me lets make mistakes or be successful and that's what I love about your channel heck your troubles were my troubles due to texas weather lol I won't lie some videos I don't watch im sorry it's just not my niche but that's OK I still love your content your success and failures make it relatable and your growth in all your forms make others want to grow as well keep up the grounded content make the content you enjoy we might not all sync with it but you will always sync with someone whether it's every day or once a month we look forward to seeing you enjoy yourself and sharing that enjoyment with us

It's always good to take a break and reflect on where you are and where you want to go.
I think shorts makes more sense for a few reasons. First, that's the way plants grow. Second I would think it would be easier as a content creator to make/edit shorts instead of trying to keep organized with something over a long period of time and then compiling it into 1 video. Especially with having a busy schedule outside of content creation. I've always enjoyed your content (you are good at it) and I'm sure I will continue to enjoy it no matter what form it takes.

Youre doing great Brooke. It is more meaningful to help people than just get views. Look at how many people regularly comment on your videos, addressing you by name. Though I'm proud of my channel, that's more than I can say for my videos.
Personally, I moved my target from weekly uploads to monthly uploads after Eden was born, and at times, even thats too much. Its good to keep things rightly prioritized.
I dont do a lot of shorts for similar reasons, they arent as fun to make, they dont make much money, and I dont think they help people as much, they just typically get views.
Looking forward to seeing your future projects!

  • @faithk_integrityandintention

Ooh, I had a nice long comment and with like 3 words left, some button got touched and Poof, I clicked something that took me to your shorts and just made me sad and mad and sad (not the short, losing my comment).
The jist: You do you, Brooke. We are very, very different people, but your videos clicked with me and I watch because of you, not just always the content. YT is such an opportunity for meet and find commonality with a range of folks you'd never otherwise know existed. I love that, and you put out that vibe. So share the planning, the passion, the frustration, the infrastructure, the sarcasm, the wedding planning, the cooking, etc etc etc. A lot of YTers will talk about formulas and consistency and blah blah blah, and yeah, to get the bigger numbers more constantly, it is a "best practice". But I'm loving that you are aware of what content creation means to you. What your garden means. What "your people" mean. And I love that you're being true to yourself.
Personally, I'd love to see you still make consistent content - weekly, semi-monthly, daily when you're bored, etc., about all sorts of topics, including what's going on in the garden in general, with yeah, some more regular updates on specific plants. That said, I also LOVE the long-term content format, such as Hollis and Nancy, who pick a crop, and show from bed prep to planting to growth progress to harvest to meal. I love the idea that in a few years there could be a whole host of content on specific topics that I know I can say (or tell someone else), "Oh, Brooke has a great video on [growing those monster terra cotta tomatoes and making a beautiful orange sauce] [growing zinnias so you too can throw pops of color into a December bouquet] [how not to freak out on what your is or isn't doing in the garden because three months later it comes together] [how to plant flowers in winter in Texas to harvest in April] [how to not cry when a bug takes out your favorite crop that you've loving filmed for three months just two days before harvest] ad nauseum.
So I think I said all this to say, again: You do you, boo. You have a core of folks who'll be along for everything, and some who'll show up for only some stuff. My "garden" (aka big honkin failure) videos are about to include more mental wellness stuff as well, which was my intention, then I got sidetracked. I'll lose some of the, um, 22 subscribers I have. Assuming more show up, some will only watch the garden, some will come only for shrinky dink, and a few hardcore will come to watch me surprise post the filming and whacking of my head into the clothesline pole. I may never see a dime. I could hit my whenever goal of a couple of thousand extra a year to help support a favorite charity. I could Get Big. But as long as I'm true to myself? I think, as a content creator, that's what really counts.

I completely agree with you on not everything you do needs to be financially profitable or needs to make you a millionaire or successful
I hate the old saying that if you make your hobby your job you won't work another day in your life.
As if your passion and enjoyment of something are going to remove all the stress of a job.
I don't need to be a millionaire, I don't need to be successful and be able to retire when I'm 40. I just want to be financially stable enough that I don't have to worry, that when my day job is done I can put my mind at rest.
My hobby is where i put my mind at rest and if my hobby is my job I will never be able to put my mind at rest.
So, to those people I always say if you make your hobby your job you'll need a new hobby.
