Hi 👋🏽 Laredo Texas here. Our temperatures are 100-120 10 months out of the year and it is extremely dry. I can grow most things but have to be strategic with placement and consistent watering. Roses do ok here. Out of my fruit trees my Barbados cherry tree does the best. Low maintenance and beautiful. I highly recommend it.

I cannot shout it loud enough: get yourself a Cinco de Mayo rose. She is stunning and dramatic in the very best ways. HEB will have them here in a month or two (I got mine at Lakeline). I also got a good deal on some at Shoals Creek Nursery around Mother's Day last year. Signed, a fellow Austinite.

@WhatBrookeGrows awesome! I LOVE mine! The color is really hard to explain, is she red? pink? purple? bright? muted? all of the above? Also, her color is very responsive to temperature. Since she blooms whenever she wants throughout the seasons, you really get a fun show.

Totally agree with you on roses, if you get the right variety they are nearly bullet proof. Parents have an heirloom that was there when the built our house in the late 70's never did anything to them and they are still growing. Only bloom once a year but they are zero maintenance, growing under an oak tree. Muscadines grapes can be sweet, esp the bronze ones. They are nothing like the Mustang wild grapes that grow in Central Texas. Mustang grapes are not only tart but extremely acidic. Thought they were basically the same until I moved to Southeast Texas. Even the wild muscadines have a pleasant taste, just hate dealing with the seeds and skins. On an unrelated note, I still get a smile on my face when I watch the replay of the last couple of minutes of the OSU/UT game. Made my week.

Agreed with everything you named. Roses are so very easy. The antique rose emporium is close to us and have some amazing “SME’s” for record and questions. I have also found some perennials and favorites that do well with minimal care and water. Esperanza’s do very well I literally haven’t ever watered since I got them established. Vitex is a Texas Superstar and Texas Sage. I could go on and on😂

Super curious about your foray into roses. I always thought they were super fussy plants and you had to spend a lot of time tending them (my time is limited). For pollinators they would be awesome so I might have to reconsider it if I can find one I can mostly ignore lol. Will be avidly watching your rose journey. I'm currently trying to expand my fruit "forest". Have a peach, a couple different figs, couple jujube, mulberry, pomegranate and a grape vine. The grape does awesome every year. They are really sweet but small and seedy. I used them with mulberry's and made some very tasty jelly. This spring I planted a dwarf apricot and an olive tree. We'll see how they manage thru the winter. Also have 3 citrus in pots that I'll try putting in ground this spring as well as some pineapple guava. Oh and a banana plant because I'm crazy. Also determined to grow a persimmon - I've killed 2 and fingers crossed on the 3rd. So many more things I'd like to try.

I'm learning about roses that there's something for everyone. I've had my gold medal rose almost a year and maybe pruned it once? I water it but honestly I'm learning roses can be A LOT easier than I thought. Your fruit forest sounds freakin AWESOME!!! also yes let me know how that olive does...i'm curious.

The hybrid teas roses can be finicky, but the shrub type roses grew well even in West Texas. We have a lot of roses growing in the very humid Southeast Texas. If we can grow them here it should be easy to grow in Central or North Texas.

What's amazing about your flower journey is that you made memories that will far outlast the memories of the actual wedding. The wedding itself is a whirlwind and doesn't last long. There is this build up, you blink and it's over. Over time, it's what went into getting there that stands out. And you have some very specific and special memories of your journey that most people never have and that you wouldn't of had otherwise. Stressful I'm sure lol. But the journey seems so you in the best way.

Good to know about the candy roaster…I have seeds and can’t wait to try them. I’m leaning heavy into c.moschata varieties (there are quite a few!) of winter squash as they’re naturally more resistant to vine borers because of their thin, hard stems. Hoping for the best! I’m also starting corn indoors this year…too much loss to either rot or critters last year. But what grew did really well! It was in a wetter spot, which was ideal because of the rough, dry summers we’ve been having in SW PA.

Good to see you again Brooke. I agree, you do not need to plant so many different varieties of tomatoes, that is why I am only growing, let me count, 33 varieties this year. Crap, did it again. On corn, surprised you did not plant the Ohio Blue corn. Secondly, corn needs to be separated by time to keep them from cross pollinating. Or you can separate by space, planting about 1000 feet apart. Just plant the sweet corn first, then 3 weeks later plant the dent corn. Corn is pretty sensitive to root damage when being grown as transplants. When it is time you have to plant, you have to plant no matter what. You can not wait a week because the area is too wet. Can be done, but is tricky. Love growing corn. The cross pollination destroys the taste of the sweet corn, not so much the other way around.

I’ve been diagnosed now for about two years and my most biggest symptoms were brain fog I just couldn’t concerntrate and I’d stare off into space another symptom is how the food looks when it goes in my mouth it came out looking the same my skin was extremely dry and rashes on my thighs I was really itchy I had loads of infections I had tonsillitis I had stomach pains another symptom was when I was consuming gluten 30 mins later my body was grumbling like growling and I always felt it bubble then soon after I needed toilet I try and follow a strict gluten free diet as much as I can but gluten free food is ridiculously expensive like not even a full loaf decent sized bread £2.75 4 crumpets £2.75 4 pittas £3.00 I mean it’s just ridiculous everting marked gluten free the prices get ranked up like I don’t have a lot of money and my food shops are so expensive for a week because I finish a loaf of bread before the end of the week and things go on and on I would like to hear how you’ve found the prices are more higher of non gluten containing products

Brain fog brain fog brain fog.... insane brain fog... depression, gas, diarrhea, horrible dermatitis, itchy oozing dermatitis with dandruff, constant itch... felt like an old man, always cold and tired, runny nose, never enough rest, waking up tired. Blepharitis, swollen eyelids, puss inside, multiple eyelid surgeries for eye stye( likeca pimple inside eyelid). Bad eyesight, double vision, trouble with balance. Weight loss, big weigh loss. Absolute hell, prison. Only light was hope that God has mercy and that this monster can be overcomed. Im absolutely never gonna touch gluten again. Diet based on animal products, simple, natural, lots of fats and protein, enough grains and greens, some fruit, veeery little sweet stuff. Just natural. ..... nobody helped me, misdiagnosed, paid lots of tests from my own pocket, doctors clueless, gave me stupid advice, totally amateurish.
