Wow what an amazing achievement - well done on keeping the water on the land to feed your plants to in turn feed yourselves 👌
Thanks so much! 😊 It's also rained now, and the wells also full, which is amazing as last year it didn't refill till mid October ✌️😍🌧️🌦️⛈️👌
So glad the rain came! It would have been soul destroying to have a repeat of last year. Well done your hard work and water saving really paid off. Fingers crossed the rain keeps coming.
Not sure I could live with the uncertainty.
I'm not a fan of the uncertainty either myself tbh, but it's just what it is, will keep adding irrigation and water storage to reduce the fear!
And thanks 💚🥜🥕🥒🍅🙏🌻
Cull. Oh no. Please try my suggestion, guys. 😢
Oh, so glad that you prayed for rain and it came!... and I'm very glad that you now have the pond too! Hurray!
Us too 🙏💦💧
And we just got a, 50,000 liter water bladder not taking ANY CHANCES!!!
So glad the extra work on collecting water has paid off and seen you through the worse. Have you thought of placing a wooden board on an angle by the side of the well, with some guttering and pipe to help top it up during downpours? Those extra litres may buy you some time, if the coming years get drier. Nice that everything is so green and colourful and despite the heat, lifted your spirits and your Guinness 🙂
That's a great idea! 👌
So many jobs but I'm loving that, thankfully now the rains have started the pressure is off a lil bit,
Well done for all your hard work conserving water. Every year you’re learning and improving and it’s great to see the fruits of your hard work.
Thank you! And its certainly a learning curve! ❤️🥜🥕🍅🥒🌱
Your garden is a testament to all your hard work and is proof that the food forest was the right way to go! Well done! Your garden is still looking great. It has been inspiring watching it develop. You must be thrilled with the results❤❤❤
Thank you! And very much pleased this year and learnt more for next year, a constant learning curve! 🙏🌻✌️
Great vlog, so lovely to see that all your hard work paid off. Must give you a great feeling having all that food to harvest and to preserve. Good luck with the plans for next year!
Thanks so much for following the journey too and it's very encouraging and each day we learn more.... so next year will be even better. 💚And big plans for growing a lot more food✌️🍆🍅🥔🥒🥕🥜
You all are doing amazing things in the garden with such heat and limited water. I’m learning so much from you two. Best wishes to all.❤
Thank you! You too! And how's your garden going? 🍅🥕🥜🥒🌱
Glad you got through this year better than last, every year will get better with the knowledge you are growing as well as the increased water resources .
Thanks mate and it rained loads after you left so the reservoir is full as is the well! 🌦️⛈️🌧️😍✌️
Your sure have come a long way this past year, always great to see your progress. Would you consider putting a cover over your well so that in the earlier summer months the well water has less chance of evaporation and you can store more in that period, so when July/August comes you have a better chance of more water when the water table drops. Be interesting to see how much the well rises after the recent monsoon rains it was a great storm yesterday. Take care and best wishes to you all. AL
Yes wise words defo needs a proper lid or cover
Last year was nearly 2 months after the rains before any real noticeable dif on the well but hoping this year will be better as more rain and less drought 💚
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid maybe you could devise some cover for the ponds as well, they have a large surface for evaporation
@@CLFL14256 yes itcis/was on the list, the list though is huge and the money pot is smaller too, so one day it will be covered, not even finished landscaping the liner yet 😣
Fair feckin play guys. Your ability to adapt and sort shite out is an inspiration
Aw thanks means a lot! 💚
The garden is looking fabulous. Well done.
Thank so much been really beautiful this year
Amazing video guys and lovely to see the difference this year compared to last! Great work as always!
Thanks a ton! And its amazing how it's changed ❤️👌
Wow what a difference in your forest garden compared to last year.
Well done to all of you and having such hot weather I hope that you have nice cool weather coming along shortly.
Wasn't the conpar3anazinh, this year looked amazing even if I say so myself and lots more learnt for next year and our new markwt garden 🥒💚🍅🌻🙏✌️🥕
Awesome guys.. the place looks amazing.. so happy for you...keep going and i'll keep watching😊
Thanks so much ❤️🙏🍅
Garden is looking fantastic this year❤🎉
Thanks so much, very pleased this year ❤️🌻🥒🥕🍅
Well done you beautiful people in your paradise garden
That's a great way to describe it, it is paradise 🌻🍅🥕🥒❤️
Old landscaper trick. Get ciggarette butts. Plant with your plants. They will retain water, and keep your food forest alive. Works when needed.
Guess the water is, retained in the filters. But sounds rather toxic to but the theory of something retaining water for the roots is, sound 💦😊
Well done Missy/Dom for the food forest looks amazing
Thanks, Sarah, so green now after the rains ☔💚🌱
💜 Good to learn thst your hard work designing your water storage and planting scheme has seen you successfully through the summer, it must have been challenging last year after all the hard work you had put into establising the garden and homestead to run out of water. Further increasing water storage capacity, improving the plant watering system and retaining soil moisture will be key to long term success.
You are both looking so healthy, life there surely agrees with your constitution 😊. Wishing you every success.
Thanks, so much, every day we learn a bit more and was great looking back reminding ourselves too.... This year we'll also be putting in our new markwt garden, so looking forward to that too 💚🌱🥒🍅🥕🥜❤️
What a terrible decision when you’ve put so much hard work into your kitchen garden……after a hard days planting beans I’m feeling tired but very grateful that we have a bore pump ….well done from the Algarve 🌞🇵🇹🌨️
Thankfully the reservoir is now full and the well to, so it's, fab news now back to autumn planting 💚🌱💚🌱💚
Hows growing in the algarve for you?
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid it’s our first proper year on the farm we’ve been here nearly 5 years but bought the farm in Dec so we are juggling renovations with planting ….we had success with our melons our neighbour who’s a farmer his melons failed but we managed to sell ours ….maybe because we are organic, who knows …just busy planting beans, peas, mangetout at the moment I’m guessing we have different planting times here ….I might have to shade them because I saw a 30 degrees pop up for later in the week…..love watching your channel have a lovely Sunday 🌞🇵🇹💫
Sorry for slow reply went back to the uk. Back now, and all our mangetout, peas, and chickpeasxatextradycto be planted out to 🌱🌱🌱🌱
Hope, alls well in your autumn garden 🌿🍃
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys.
Our pleasure! ❤️🙏
Garden is fabulous! You are stars
Thank you so pleased with this, years gardening 💚🌱
Bravo! You’ve done good!
Thanks 👌✌️
Garden looks great
Thanks again and didn't it just even though I say so, the nana circle defo worked! 👌✌️🍌🍌🍌 Now to keep them alive through winter is the next challenge!
We are just starting to plant our new property.first jobs have been wood chips and straw on swales .waiting for shed to arrive so can setting up 3 32000l rain water tanks.waters the key
Water is indeed key 💦 so you're having 3x 32,000 liters? 100k total, wow how much were those tanks?
Have you thought of asking the "Father of mercies and the God of all consolation" for rain, miraculous rain?
Indeed and thankfully we've had a LOT of rain in the past months 👌🙏
Well done folks, your hard work is paying off. Take care.
Thanks so much Isobel 💚☺️
Yay, ye did it 🎉.
Thanks and we're so pleased!!!? ❤️🌻
Just found yalls channel.. Good stuff
Thanks and welcomes 😁✌️🌻🙏
Nice one guys when are nephew runs out of water on there place in Australia they get water shipped in by lorry is that something you could do it could save your plants and keep you all going good luck 👍
It's more common in the algarve, there is a farmer who does in 1000l ibc but it's 50e so it's not really a, cost effective option sadly 🙄
Perennial vegetables by Eric toensmeier is an excellent resource to help move away from annuals
Ohh thanks howard looks great will order it 💚🍆🍅🥔🥒🥕🥜
I've mentioned it before and I'll say it again, HYDROPONICS!!!
It's more efficient than watering the soil. A basic system isn't that expensive and can easily be run by your solar packs.
For in the greenhouse? How does it work outside? Any links to that please
Have you investigated the cost of a water borehole ? Keeping the surrounding area of the well could reduce the silt issue maybe (?).
Love your vlogs .,
Thanks and did get a price last year about 5k, but costcaside I'm not a massive fan but we are considering it. We cleaned the well last year its very clear now and minimal silt/mud left 😊
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Yes even here in Almeria this summer has been seriously hot! Our apple tree, ans ome herbs are happy enough with every second day of watering. We are due some rain today so the forcast says? Iwas wonering how you are all getting on mossie wise especially with non flowing water where the newts and frogs live? Although maybe mossies make nice snacks for them😂😂 wishing you torrential rain for the next few days ! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Almeria can be super hot to, this year here we had 1ish week of crazy hot whereas last summer was, several months. Crazy hot being 40 plus, this year we've been pleased with what we've called cooler days of 35 😂
Had mossie but not too bad as we've had 1000s of dragon fly living and Breeding on the pond as well as lots of evening bat's eating them too so not to awful!
Some, days, we've had to water morning and night when it's in the high 30s but having mainly automated it it's been much easier ✌️
Had much rain last week drizzle today then back to sun but autumn sun high 20s so lovely! ✌️🌞🌻
Hope you get the rain too ☔
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid
My family get a good laugh when I'm telling them we're praying for rain here! Being from Ireland where all it does is rain😂! Enjoy your beautiful perfect homestead, I love watching it growing 🙏💚💚
Haha yes mine too 😂🌧️🌧️⛈️
Congratulations on your resilience. What do you think of the idea of channeling the rainwater that runs across the land to fill the well? 👋👋👋👋
Thanks certainly a journey! But loving it. Think in days past the farmers of old did do that as there's a slate lined channel coming from the terraces to the well. The problem now is it doesn't rain from may until Sept 😕
But certainly in Sept it's worth looking into channeling it 👌✌️
just a suggestion to watch 'nearby veggies', they are renting a place, but own land, so not facing as many challenges as you....but lots of learning curves as they are a little ahead timewise than you guys...good to see life is getting better for you
Thanks and we do like nearby veggies too 👍🌻😄🥜🥕🥒🍅
I'm really impressed at how well you've done this year both with the growing and conservation of water, well done! Re the well, how about a huge funnel above the well, to help catch some of that rain downpours? Could it be built with a large tarp on 4/5 poles with the tarp having a hold in the middle guiding water into the well? (tarp can be removed when no rain due)
Thanks and good idea, on the funnel tarp. The only downside is there's little to no rain from may to early Sept, so once the rains cones the well being low becomes less of an issue, but also thought of catchments for ibc etc.... Every lil helps! 😊🌻✌️
From USA
Evening from a humid portugal 👋
Are large poly tanks available in portugal? We have 4 here in Australia totaling 80,000litres which would last 40 weeks with no rain.
They are but the 20000l ones are about 5k so not really an option sadly. I'm not a fan of bore holes but they're a lil cheaper, more ponds it is I think
Where are you guys? 😢
We had my son visit, then went back to the uk and enjoying a, youtube break. Have filmed yesterday and today more so vid out next week ❤️
Thanks for missing us xxx
Harvesting the rainwater is not difficult...start with that.
And cover up the well.
You don't want algea and wildlife in the water.
We do harvest rainwater but it doesn't rain at all in the summer so rain collected in April lasts just a week or so. It's having the means to collect it. Well is spring water and don't want to cover as millions of pollinators, use it to drink
Are there wild boar on your land and what other wild animals do have have, apart from those in the well? Your garden is beautiful, best wishes from Susan in UK.
We have several types of deer, lynx, a single iberian wolf, genet, Egyptian mongooses, red squirrels and more 😍 lots of amazing birds too including short toed eagles ohh and shakes which the later eat!
Oh and missed out the lots of boars!
I hope you are all safe, thank you for replying to my questionxx @@TheWildlandersOffGrid
Thanks for sharing your adventures. Do you happen to know the protocol for expats home schooling in Portugal? Thanks again. 🙏💖
Hi in short you need a, degree to homeschool in Portugal OR to be registered in an international school online, for example Clonlara which is accepted in the visa, process
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid Thank you
@@simplicityrevealed888 if you need more detail just email us 👌
@@TheWildlandersOffGridThank you. I didn't see an email address listed on your About page.
In all situations the child must be learning portuguese. The child's education will be an important factor in renewing visas. Portugal wants immigrants to integrate and pay taxes.
Hello guys, sorry for the off topic question, but I wondered if you guys had any information on home education in Portugal? I no Rosie was home educated from the van, and me and my family are about to set off for full time vanlife with our 3 kids, from the UK. We are home educating our eldest who is 7. We will be heading over to central Portugal after around a year of travelling, looking to settle down on a farm. I just wondered if Rosie carried on home education in Portugal? Everything I find online says it’s not widely accepted unless you have a degree? Thank you in advance x
