It’s so romantic to grow your own wedding flowers. I grew my own too, I grew succulents that look like roses, I will always have them in my garden because of the sentimental connection

Love to see you’re back 🥰 I was looking over my planner last night and I’m literally counting down the days I’m so excited! This cold has been killer (for the short time it’s been here lol). Also, I think sometimes we need to remind others that this will be YOUR wedding, and what YOU guys wanna do is all that matters. People like to insert themselves where their opinions aren’t really welcome and getting crappy over flowers is absolutely insane. Flowers are supposed to make people happy! I remember being excited and telling a few of my own family members a couple years back about my garden in general and they said it was a complete waste of time…but I’ll happily laugh at them to myself in my abundance while eating my fresh tomato sandwiches, salsas, sauces, pickles, jams, stir fries, teas….lol
They can stay flavorless just like those giving you a hard time about the flowers can stay dull 💁‍♀️

Your wedding bouquet is going to be gorgeous!!! I can't wait to see it! You are going to love the Dr Wyche's tomato! Also be careful with the 4 o,clocks here. They do great here but can get invasive quick!

I am so sorry to hear that you may be getting some push back about growing your own wedding flowers. I cant think of anything more special than carrying flowers that you loved and watched grow right in the backyard of the home that you are your fiancé are going to start your marriage in. Personally I think it is amazing that you are taking responsibility of the sourcing of your flowers and just imagine the joy you will have watching them grow, knowing that in a few short months you will be holding them walking down the isle to commit to a life time of love. Don't loose sight its an amazing thing that I wish more people would do.

I grew Zinneas with my tomatoes. It was definitely beautiful. I planted then right in between the tomatoes...and it found it's way to the light.

Brooke, you're back!!! I'm so glad to see you and hear about the plans for the wedding flowers. That sounds lovely. I've been looking forward to seeing you and now after watching you today, I'm ready to start my Winter Sowing seeds. A little tough today since the wind chill is -26 and tomorrow is -33. I'm counting the days until we can eat our yummy tomatoes again....lol.

Your bouquet plan seems pretty solid. Good idea on dry florals with sunflower s.

The only thing I can think of that might hurt your sunflowers are leaf footed bugs. I use them as a trap crop because the leaf footed bugs will leave my tomatoes alone if I have sunflowers nearby. You might grow some away from your main crop and leave those as trap crops. I'm also growing the Aztec Sunset Zinnias too. The Takii's choice are beautiful with amazing colors. I had one that was a beautiful reddish orange that I don't normally see in the standard cactus mixes.

I’m just growing san Marzano and other Roma tomatoes this year. This year I’m also planting a bunch of varieties of peppers. Potatoes, I’m only growing Yukon gold, kennebec and chieftain. I’m located in northern Ontario Canada.

I think the fact that you're going to try growing your wedding flowers is amazing! Nothing ventured nothing gained. Screw the naysayers. I'll be avidly watching the progress. I always learn something. And I had no idea there were so many different marigolds. I see another Baker Creek order in my future.
I hope your winter garden survives the cold snap we are having.

Hola niña hermosa! I love your passion for gardening, you’re an inspiration! Do you start determinante tomatoes through the year, or just this one time for spring? And if you do, how often? I would like to have better luck with tomatoes this year, still learning! 😬☺️😁 I’m in zone 8b-9a in Texas

I'm seeing this I April, but to cut down on pests, try companion planting, especially putting your onions in with lots of other plants to keep some of those pests away.

Good morning beautiful girl. Listen don't you let anyone what or how to do your wedding. This is your time to shine. I love the fact that you are growing your own flowers. What a fabulous idea!! Wish I would have thought of it for my last and final wedding. Lol yes remarried this past June to the most fantastic God given man. Anywho, I used silk flower arrangement because I too live in TX and girl those flowers would not have made it. I cannot wait to see the beauty you create with those dried flowers. Also will be checking in to see the progress as I am adding a cut flower garden to my front yard. Thought of documenting but have not figured out youtube video stuff lol. Be blessed girl.

I love that you are growing some of your own wedding flowers, but the part that scares me is the word SOME. If I'm being honest, most florists already dont make a huge profit margin by the time they purchase in the flowers & then spend hours processing them (removing leaves, etc.) & arranging them. So if you ask them for a discount, if you provide some if the flowers, that wpuld be my guess as to why. Most of the cost comes in labor. Its much more time consuming than the average person wpuld assume to make beautiful bridal bouquets & centerpieces. (& obviously, Im not talking about the ones that charge $5,000 for a 4 little bouquets & a couple centerpieces- which no hate, just explaining thats not the type in talking about) I would suggest either asking if you can provide some ofnthe flowers without asking for a discount (if you just want to be able to grow some of them yourself) or trying to find a small farmer florist that sells buckets of blooms for DIY Wedding bouquets if you're trying to save money.
Edit: I just rememebered your wedding is in december so not many local flower farmers are going to have much growing in December I would assume. So you may have to go with a traditional florist that gets all their product flown in from other countries if you already have your wedding planned for december. 😔 (sad face is because over 70% of the flowers sold in the us are shipped from other countries & not sourced from locak farmers)

Sitting in my living room with ice on the ground outside and the power going in and out every 10mins 🙃 Dreaming of the spring rn lol Could you show how you start your flower seeds? I want to get into flowers for a pollinator garden as well, but I didn’t have any success trying to plant my petunias. The seeds were sooo tiny.

    • @SeedToPlate
      @SeedToPlate  7 місяців тому +2

My high level planting schedule is mid-march for transplants (weather dependent, you want your nights to be in the 40's consistently). Anything that I direct sow will also be around that time frame! Technically in our zone we can plant 3/1 (last frost date) but in my experience we always have a late cold snap that can stunt growth on certain plants like tomatoes. And if you're growing like 5 toms and can cover them, great! I grow like 40 tomato plants on average so it's not feasible for me to cover all of those, I'd rather wait a couple of weeks

Thank you. I have at least 40 tomatoes started indoors I started end of December last year I started them indoors mid January and only a couple made it through the brutal heat. High hopes! Thanks for sharing your experience!

I think growing your own flowers is romantic. There is risk involved, but there is risk in everything. And 30 varieties of tomatoes is too many. That is why I am only growing 25 varieties, with 12 being cherry tomatoes. Shoot, I am growing 3 types of Sungold, the original, Sunsugar, and Torojina. Why am I growing types of Sungold? Tell me I really do not know.
