@@barbaranelson8617 -- I would imagine that had to do with John having passed and Paul still being alive and kicking at the time. I don't sense that Paul was offended.
It wasn't too long ago when someone could make a speech in front of an audience without continuous wooo's and applause after every damn thing they said
TheAwakenedINFJ He’s holding back from bawling while saying things he wished he had said to his dead friend he never got to reconcile with. I’d say it’s ok here.
I got emotional when he said,"This letter comes with love from your friend Paul, John Lennon you made it,tonight you are in the rock and roll hall of fame,God bless you."
I reckon if John hadnt been shot then the Beatles may have got together for the Live Aid concert in 1985, just to add, i have created a Paul McCartney lookalike video in good humour, to see it simply just type in the following title to the search bar above...... 'People who look like Paul McCartney'
D. D.D. Wow you know when I saw the comment I was surprised cause I like damn he was sad? I thought the exact same as you that he was super uncomfortable and cause no one was laughing at most of the parts of his scripted speech. Btw anyone dw about the people giving you shit they’re just not as smart as you xd
It cracks me up when people complain about Paul's ego. If you wrote the soundtrack for an entire generation and were told every day of your life how special you are....let's see how well you keep your ego in check! I think Paul and the rest of the boys did a pretty good job...all things considered.
Paul has done very well. So has Ringo . Life goes on. They worked so hard, and had a path that was just for them. Beatles forever!🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
McCartney is the most accomplished songwriter in rock and roll history. Hands down. It's him. Beatles, Wings, solo, duets, etc. Nobody wrote and made music that sold more than he did. That goes for all people and all types of music ever He is extremely modest most every time I have ever heard him talk. Extremely. Doesn't brag, doesn't talk down to people. He is also a considerate and caring listener when fans and reporters, etc., speak to him. In fact, the way he is, he typically acts like you are important to him when you talk to him. That is why people love him even more.
Paul is lovely. Considering his incredible lifelong fame and a talent beyond almost every other rock/pop composer, he's remained as humble as it's possible to be. The world is a better place with him in it.
John and Paul were soulmates of a sort. The relationship they had was spectacular. It’s heartbreaking to listen to the emotion in a grown man’s voice as he speaks to his best friend - as he tries to hold it together.
They both lost their mothers when they were young. They were both crazy talented and determined. Look what we got out of it. Timeless music, such a gift for our heart and souls forever
They also pushed each other to be better. Neither would have been as great if it wasn't for the many years they collaborated together. They gave each other confidence in their early years. Helped both of them grow creatively. Consider the amount of music these to wrote and performed in 6 years.
Janet McIntosh No one to hold them back, they just found their way and look what it did for all us? My Teen years would have been no where if not for the Beatles......
I read somewhere - the last words spoken by John were "Yes I am" when he was asked "Are you John Lennon", by one of the doctors in the emergency room after he had been shot.
Paul was always the stoic one in the group. To see him so uneasy and struggling to fight back the emotions he must've been feeling shows the love he still felt for John. Beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
look at Paul's facial expressions he's so holding back the tears.........his lips, his eyes, his body movement he's so trying not to break down reminiscing about a dear and close friend he lost. I swear on my life I hope when I die at least one person acts like this, that would mean I was important to at least one person..........this is epic
It meant so much for us to know that Lennon shared some good habits and the joy of being with his son, in one of their last calls, since on the Get Back documentary we have a clearly difference as John was doing heroin and almost getting himself lost. So that part was so nice to hear
As much as this was hard for Paul, I'd imagine how much it was a relief for him to finally share with the public all those random memories he kept inside all these years. The event was a fitting excuse for him to do just that.
D. D.D. Dude everyone has bullet point flash cards for speeches like this. Especially in front of a large audience. People tend to get overwhelmed and forget their talking points. Also go take your gullible ass somewhere else
On his last day on Earth, John Lennon was followed around by Dave Sholin, who was interviewing him for RKO. Sholin was on his way to the airport and, when John and Yoko's car to the studio did not show up, Sholin invited them to ride with him and be dropped off on the way. They apparently had a remarkable day together and Sholin found Lennon to be open, friendly and excited to be reviving his career. When the subject of Paul came up, John did not hesitate to talk about their troubles, but ultimately said this: "He’s like a brother. I love him. Families … we certainly have our ups and downs and our quarrels. But at the end of the day when it’s all said and done, I would do anything for him. I think he would do anything for me." Obviously, I never met a Beatle, but it always troubled me to think that the two men didn't reconcile before they died. I find it very comforting to know that they did and that they had the opportunity to tell each other how they felt. In the end, I suppose, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
@@donnareedfan it's difficult to talk about someone who you love and respect and too explain their relationship too others..it would take a lifetime to explain..Paul truly loved John and vice versa they were brother's
They did reconcile. There’s loads of stories out there that, post- Lost Weekend period, Paul was going to The Dakota almost every time he was in New York.
Paul always loved John and the group. He dedicated many songs to John. In 1974 John was wearing a button "I love Paul" and someone asked him "Why are you wearing this shirt?" "Because I love Paul." Harry Nilsson told that story. They were really friends... I love when he imitates the voice of John.
I don't think. Actually, as referred in Geoffrey Giuliano's book "The Beatles: a celebration" it was a button. Harry Nillson told this story about a girl friend of his who, one day, met John who was wearing this button on his shirt. She asked him "Why are you wearing this button?" and he replied "Because I love Paul".
That final "John Lennon, you made it. Tonight you're in the rock and roll hall of fame." nearly gets me choked up, you can tell he's close to crying there.
It seems odd to me though. Like going to the world's richest man and being like, "You made it dawg, you can buy a 2007 rusty honda civic", idk maybe the hall was seen as a big deal back then?
@hansolo631 I think they considered it an honor, but both Paul and John would have known their fame far surpassed the bounds of what the Hall of Fame could represent, so Paul was keeping it straightforward and casual
@@hansolo631 These were the very earliest days of the hall, so yes it was seen as an honor back then. 1994? You could not have gotten in unless your first recording was released 25 years prior. So this would be people 1969 or prior. The scandals back then were the black musicians who were NOT being put in. And some of the other pioneers, mainly some women, who were being ignored.
Paul did have an ego, but so did John, so did all of them. In the end though they were just "4 guys who really loved each other" (which I think Ringo said) What friendships don't have their ups and downs? In the end John and Paul were brothers
+Serena Hall its in the job description under Rock Star must have somewhat of an ego LOL everyone has an ego its not letting it go crazy that is the key
+Austin Angler What a fantasy. They were about themselves, they were not brothers, and they did not end their relationship as best friends. They were produced, they were lucky, and they couldn't hold a candle to guys like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, and Paul still can't hold a candle to John.
When my twin brother Paul died from cancer in 1992, I wrote, as a photographer, to many famous people asking that I might take their portrait in my bros' honour and collate a series of images for a book of photographs. I sent out sixty seven letters to the good and great in their various fields and crossed my fingers and waited..... Guess who the first person was to respond to my request. Your right. The very next day... I went down to his studios, after being met with a big hug and a cuppa, That picture got everyone else on board for the project and I know for sure that without Paul's yes it never would have got off the ground... I was in pieces having just lost my twin bro and best friend and your words of kindness about your mate John helped me like you'll never know.... You didn't know me from Adam and yet you gave me your time and I will always be grateful for that. Thank you.
Barry. What a wonderful memory. I'm sure they knew of you. I didn't know you lost your brother, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope life is being good to you. Are you still in the music business? Thank you for sharing your memory.
I think that Paul is still broken hearted that John is gone. The petty differences in their personalities waxes very minuscule as time passes and the love that remains is vast and true.
It would be terrible to lose one of the most important people in your life in such a violent, and senseless manner....The kind of thing that heartbreak is made of....He was still so very young, and had so much life left to live, and love....A heartbreak felt throughout the world....
I've been in love with Paul McCarrtney since 1963 !!!!! And the other Beatles as well. I'm a musician, singer songwriter bcz of them. Nothing comes CLOSE today
I remember a McCartney story from their pre-fame days when they were in an old van going from one club to another and ran off the road and didn't know what to do. The individual provenance is sketchy, but someone said 'Something will happen'. It became a kind of defacto mantra for them. I say it to myself every day. "Something will happen'. Something did happen--for them, at least. They changed music forever.
CooManTunes, my statement was, "Greatest team ever in music: Lennon/McCartney." Out of that one sentence you seem to state I also mean Harrison and Star are bad? Since you do not have the ability to post without profanity I assume you do not have the ability to read and comprehend. Making a positive statement on Lennon/McCartney is not stating George or Ringo were bad. George is probably one of the most if not the most underrated songwriters ever. Ringo was very talented as a drummer, and would also fall under the category of very underrated too. It took all 4 to make what happened happen, so no I would not say forget the other 2.
Writting songs was hardly complicated , THIS is the one of the only times his heart was broke , but having to not cried , # PAUL MCARTNEY IS AWESOME . # JOHN LENNON IS AWESOME , MAY HE REST IN PEACE
Katja Müller Go check you vinyl copy of Please Please Me and look at the writers credits it was McCartney /Lennon before Lennon /McCartney.I can see it eats at you that John picked Paul to be his partner in July 1957 and not you..Get over it..
You are way more pathetic than Paul. And you never knew John or was a friend of John or even wrote a song with John. Paul did all those things. You are just faceless bitter fan that thinks he knows John..LOL
Katja Müller oh God, you are just simply dumb darling. If you know nothing, then stay quiet. One advice for the future : shut up and open your fucking eyes ;)
I took a shit once and both of the turds in the toilet didn't argue about which one came out first. They both knew where they were going in the longrun.
He changed the songs so he got some of the royalties. He gave Julian some of the royalties where some of it should have went. Yoko didn't give Julian ANYTHING, not even the letters he wrote his father. Not even his childhood pictures his father had. Julian has spent the better part of his adult life buying from collectors, his own things back, because Yoko refused to give him anything. So yea Paul got petty and changed things so that both of John's son's got his Royalties. We know Yoko got her cut for being the widow. How would you feel if your childhood memories were being sold off to collectors at auctions and you had to spend money to get them back? Or your father passed away and you got nothing.
No one is more rock than John Lennon. Not a fake one with tough looking clothes, silly symbols and generic obnoxious stereotypical rock behavior. John was the real deal. He had a real edge, he had charisma, intelligence, he didn´t conform and he was innovative. All that is on the inside. THAT is rock.
What I love about this random collection of memories from Paul is that he didn't try to canonize John; he didn't try to elevate him to super-human status. He just shows how it was the real, day-to-day moments -- even at the height of fame -- that were meaningful to him. For us on the outside, we want to see a legend immortalized, but Paul was just missing an old friend.
@Paul McCartney It's amazing how stupid these bot creators must think people are. Reported. If you see my msg and the bot msg is still there, plz report it.
+Paul Ivey They would be genuinely friendly today when they saw each other, at least, if not close friends. During the '70s, while they were suing each other over pride too many times to do anyone any good, John both hated and loved Paul at the same time. Anyone who's been through a divorce knows how that can be. And John called it "like a divorce."
Brazilian Atlantis they were pretty much back to normal before John died. Makes it even more sad. Just as they were healing their relationship John gets shot...
George said what people do not realize for years they did not even leave the Hotel rooms and they got by with their love for each other and humor. That period of their life was so different no one could ever imagine what it was like to be a Beatle in the sixties.
To Paul Ivey:yes they were just starting to talk on the phone and after John's murder, Paul said that he was visiting John in new York several times and Paul said that he and John spoke many times about making a new album with all 4 Beatles.
The crowd was quiet out of respect as everyone knew how painful it was for Paul to induct John into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame because of his assassination.
Because quite simply, they should BOTH have been up there together. Which having healed their relationship, they WOULD have been! That is the obvious subtext here, so yes there is a respectful rather than over the top celebratory mood. In a just world, John would have been there himself.
Honestly, I do sort of believe that he would have forgiven the guy who shot him. Too bad the fury of the public prevented him from ever getting a parole.
And then the HOF betrayed him. There was an agreement that Paul would be inducted the following year but instead they made him wait 5 years, by which time Linda was dead. F*ckers. .
@@davidkariu "I can feel John inside me now, and I can hear him asking me to tell you all "thank you" and that he loves you all. He loves the whole world."
If you're a fan, you will cry. I grew up with the lads as best I could, through film and vinyl. I'm 60 and had never seen this video before. I clearly remember the day John died. The Beatles and John solo touched my life in so many ways I can't explain. Thank you John. Thank you Paul. Thank you George. Thank you Ringo. Thank you for enriching the life of a kid from nowhere USA. Seriously.
Ikura Prime I'm with you every step of the way on that one. Wasn't it incredible growing up with them? The music kept flowing from them to us and never dried up until the break up. It's impossible for those who were not there to understand what they were and what they meant to all of us. Every six months a new album would come out and every track was a gem. Every three months there was a new single with music that was never on an album. In the early 80s A Hard Day's Night was re-released in theaters. I went with my friends and all of those who were my age literally cried at the beginning of that film. It had only been a short time since John was killed and it hit home on every one of us who were in that theater that day. Try to explain that to younger people who were not there and they will just shake their heads and walk away. We we're privileged and blessed to be part of that time and to experience all that came with it.
I did not cry. But I am a big fan. It was just nice to hear his stories about there bond together. Even though he was hurting of loosing a dear friend.
@@tallmn1957 even after the breakup, the music never died, it seemed to multiply times four. I was heartbroken about the breakup, but when attending a Paul McCartney concert in Charlotte 93, that was absolutely the best night of my life!
@ONNIE TALONE John did change. He wasn't the peace loving guy before he met Yoko. He wasn't humble. He was very arragant. He only became more humble in his later years. He grew up. He said as much in the bed in for peace interviews. But, John never changed in that he was true to himself no matter if his beliefs changed. He was always blatantly honest.
What a class act. You can feel the love he has for Lennon with every word. At the end he was doing his best to keep himself composed. Truly a class man. Legend
At 6:27, when he talks about the look they exchanged after that line in A day in the life, you can see he's reliving that moment. The pause, the sigh and the 'ah boy' are so painful to watch. It's when he thinks about small, intimate and playful moments like that one - moments only the two of them shared - that Paul misses John the most.
@@hunterking4045 I'll never understand why two men can't be great friends without someone perpetuating homosexuality. Be comfortable with who you are, and accept others as they are, too.
And George's...especially when he was kicking our ass so bad on Abbey Road and we rejected "What Is Life" in favor of that piece of shit "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"? No way was George going to have 3 great songs on a Beatles album. High five?
I've met Paul and is wife Linda God rest her soul.. Here in LIVERPOOL when he was on the Royal Court. He was amazing so down to earth the two of them were. Love the man. ❤⚘❤
Beautiful and sad all at the same time. I still can't get my head around how we lost John Lennon all those years ago. Paul and John--two of the greatest song writers and performers of all time.
Dear Paul, he is so ordinary and human. I wish people wouldn't put him down. I can see his nerves & honesty so clearly as he made this speech. It is him trying to explain to 'outsiders' a few of the 'infinite moments' that he spent with John. I know for myself, that it's impossible to convey to outsiders, why a relationship is/has been so important to you & you only.
Yep. People criticised him for what appeared to be a casual attitude when interviewed as the news of John's death broke. The truth is he was too genuine too put on a show for the media. He was devastated.
Hi thanks for your comment. Yep Paul is unfairly criticized & in so many ways still 'crucified' as the one who broke up the Beatles. I am so frustrated that these critics have no understanding/perspective in regard to 4 band members & their wives/girlfriends going thru relationship changes in such crazy times. I would like to see how many of his critics could produce anything that Paul has achieved. He is a legendary musician/composer and songwriter. I am so tired of people bringing him, down.GAZ
You can tell how important John was in Paul’s life they were brothers and he really misses him because Paul is trying not to tear up because normally he talks so easily. John may be gone physically but he still lives in peoples hearts R.I.P. John Lennon the world misses you ❤️
@Benjamin is Perfect Wish I was, they were my favorite childhood band... I'm not going to get into it, but you can see for yourself if you care enough to look.
A travel across the time. This is a video posted 8 years ago, showing an event from 25 years ago, whose subject was from 50 something years ago. Great Band, The Beatles, whose legacy will last for many years to come. It's 2019.
John Lennon would have been 78 now and it would have been fascinating to hear his take on what is going on in this world. He was a highly intelligent but complex character and it is a tragedy that his life was cut short at such a relatively young age.
Wilma watch the movie called “Beatles Stories.” John’s assistant said he became more conservative before he died after meeting Reagan (at a baseball game!) and having a long talk. I might be full of it but this is what I remember.
@Wilma What makes you think that the conservative world is the real world? Might it be true that children are living in the real world, free from ideas of limitation and restriction, and as we age, more and more restrictions and beliefs obscure our view of the "real world"?
You fucking tools,,how dare you say anything bad about the Beatles are you all fucking crazy ,,you idiots don't have a clue ,you say stupid shit that means nothing, you fools ,wake up smell the coffee, you morons, wake up
That was a very brave performance. To stand before the world and recapitulate the shared life of a deep friend, a brother, really. I thought at each word his voice would break and he wouldn't be able to finish. I sat, enthralled, listening to his vignettes of his life with John, very moved by the stories and his obvious trial of emotion. And he pulled it off. Such grace under pressure is a rare thing to witness in the world, today.
You’re really projecting a lot of your emotions watching this onto Paul as if you know everything he feels about John. The guy had barely spoken to John for 10 years before he died. Sure they were brothers once, but I don’t think Paul is as broken up about his death as people like to think.
Yes, I think he did extraordinarily well. The script was by the numbers, in parts, but the emotion felt real. This is not an easy thing to do, as many of you will realise from eulogies you've delivered.
@@winser21 I have the same thoughts. The man Paul loved like a brother died way before he was shot down. In a real friendship there’s no coming back from the shit they went through. The most painful thing in these cases is seeing your friend, your brother turning his back on you, turning into something that despises you. After that, they’re just like any stranger next door.
What absolutely dread the day we have to talk about Paul McCartney past tense... You mean a lot to me Paul your music has been entrenched in my life growing up thank you so much for you and your group....
Paul is so good in front of an audience. That he seemed uncomfortable in front of this one tells me how hard it must have been for him to hold his emotions in check, especially at the end.
Rene Rodriguez Quite right. Speaking wise yes. And playing Here Today. It really does me in. It gets me to see Paul pouring his heart out with grief. I do feel him.
Paul NEVER EVER wobbled like that in all the time I've seen him on stage or in interviews, obviously his way of shirking of his sorrows. At 6:27 "That sneaky little look", (momentary far off stare then sigh & 'OH-boy') he almost lost it. Hung in there like a trooper. KUDOS Paul. . Audience hung on every word Paul said, NOT WISHING to miss a moment. Lives between Paul and John were quite private, this was something never heard before. From the audience, TOTAL RESPECT to Paul and this tribute.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Paul so uncomfortable. I think this task was so emotionally difficult for him that his goal was simply to try to hold it together. And so he relies on notes and is fidgety and mechanical. Paul oozes humanity. I really felt for him here. I guarantee you, this was one of the most difficult things he’s ever done. Bless you, Paul.
Yes, the only thing that shows him maybe a bit more uncomfortable is the one from the Desert Island Show from 1982 where they played Beautiful Boy and he was sooo close to crying. The way he moved his face around was so sad.
That is because in the beginning I have a feeling a lot of the "Lennon, McCartney" songs were 80% Lennon. A couple years in I think Paul got his writing down, and a few years later George. But in the beginning I dont think anyone would argue it was Johns band (especially the Cavern and Hamburg days)
@@DimitrisDr3am Oh, yeah. I've seen it like this: Pre-1965/66, it was John's band, almost completely. Post 1966, I'd say it's more Paul's band, really.
Disagree. They gave each other credit. They were both as humble and as loyal as each other. It was in the latter years when asked post Beatles, it was made more evident who wrote what. Still loyal to his friend, but it was more Paul setting the record straight than John. I don't think John cared.... until he felt betrayed by digs in RAM songs and wrote the scathing 'How Do You Sleep' in retaliation. Interesting to note Phil (the last Beatle producer) produced it and George played on it.
Brutal. Dead at 40. The Beatles were and always will be the greatest. More than a pop band. Philosophers. Truth tellers/seekers. Artists. People. Lovers and friends.
Genius musicians...and PM's memories are charming. Not at all easy to do what he did there at the induction... and he carried it off bravely, beautifully!
Paul did a wonderful job talking about old memories and John. He was really trying to stay focused, when I'm sure he wanted to cry. They loved each other. Thanks, Paul for being you.
The Beatles were all like family. They had their arguments, but no matter what, also had brotherly love. This was a thoughtful way for Paul to remember his dear friend John. It's almost like they're both there reminiscing about good old times, sharing fond memories of their wonderful friendship
Paul is not being difficult here. I sure don't understand people's hate for this man. John's very good friend actually is honoring his earliest best friend here in a room full of mutually admiring people. Get real, I don't think most of you understand the magnitude of the significance here. Paul loved John. He's obviously nervous about doing an old friend justice here. Telling tales without getting overly emotional. Keeping it together. Period.
John never hated Paul. He was angry with Paul, but actually admitted Paul was right. Paul tried to tell them that as The Beatles, they were getting robbed of so much publishing money so rightly due to them. John actually quit before Paul, he just didnt go public with it. That also angered John. They loved each other, and I believe John would've been proud of that induction letter.
I doubt any of the critics could do an 8 minute speech in front of thousands of people and try and be funny and poignant at the same time.....all the while trying to hold it together and not break down......easier said than done folks!
THANK YOU. I swear, people are too hard on these just for not reacting to things the way THEY think they should react. We haven't lived the same lives they've lived Even if you know a lot about Paul, you don't what's going on in his head all the time, so they really need to just let him be whoever he wants to be. He's been through enough crap
xpat73 You are right on the money concerning Paul. The first few minutes he was very nervous and looks like he was holding back some deep emotion that was bubbling at the surface. I felt very sorry for him but proud at the same time.
Dear Xpat: I couldn't even speak for more than a minute at my mother's funeral in 2003, but Paul held it together, I admire him so much, and I loved the stories he shared with the world as Lennon finally got inducted into the hall of music, which should have happened many years earlier. All the Beatles have had to wait for too many years, and the rock n roll Hall of fame waited way too long.
@@tiablue9106 totally agree. Paul and Ringo are both older now so people need to stop with these ugly, snarky comments. If u don't like the Beatles, no one is forcing you to listen to their music. I was taught to respect my elders, so lay off these 2 remaining Beatles and give them props for the best music of all time 🎸 🥁 😁
This is honestly such a sad thing to see. You can clearly see him holding back emotions in this. We all miss John. And one thing I realized, if they would've stayed together as a band, John might still be with us today. God bless all four of them for their talents and the great miracles they performed for this world.
This always breaks me up. Brits are known for a stiff upper lip and control their emotions. You can tell that Paul's heart is breaking right in front of us all. Bless you mate. RIP John
It must be difficult to condense a life and career like John’s into so few words, but Paul wrote his story with skill and delivered it with love, and humor. A well deserved honor by a good friend.
Love Paul McCartney My Dad saw the Beatles live. Paul just comes across so laid back and he has gone through so much. I am so happy they put their differences aside.
I'll be the first to pis on his grave for his antics leading up the Concert For George. He almost ruined it until Jeff Lynne threatened to dial his ass up if he didn't stop.
Donovan Chapman I doubt his language will improve any more than you overlooking the George Harrison factor. A multiplicity of factors went into the break up of The Beatles, from the John Lennon's relationship with Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney's relationship with Linda Eastman, the death of Brian Epstein to the emerging songwriting potency of George Harrison to an overall consensus need among all of the band members for change and to get off the money-making gristmill.
Howard Siu yes i agree i saw a video of paul showing moles on his face and scar bottom left of chin from 1960 onwards and even after 1966 yes were still there.. it is the same guy.. it was just Paul and John messing about having fun.
"I love him.... At the end of the day, when it's all said and done, I would do anything for him, and I think he would do anything for me." -- John Lennon on Paul McCartney, to Dave Sholin of RKO Radio, morning of Dec. 8, 1980
Do yourself a huge favor, trust me on this, google "John Lennon's long lost weekend Paul" and the image you shall find is a truly heart warming one. It's of Paul visiting John in 1974 at his Los Angeles home and the two of them hanging out. The fact that all the pressure of anything associated with the Beatles was lifted made it that the two of them could be friends again.
Regardless of what some may say about this, it was a great tribute done in the right way. Paul told us things we never knew and I thought that he revealed how much he loved John. It is wrong to separate the two of them because together they were much greater than their two separate parts. They complemented each other and both were smart enough to know it from the beginning. I don't think we will ever really appreciate just how close they were. I'm not sure it can be put in words. It was just a unique event in human history. Never to be repeated.
Bravo Greenwolfe Green I felt your words in the depths of my soul.. I was so moved by Pauls Heart felt and very emotional speech.. You are so absolutely Right .. No one will truly know that Depth of Paul and Johns Love for one another its unfathomable really > To think of their history meeting as young Boys in Church Hall and Sharing in this Amazing Journey that Started in Liverpool and went on to Hamburg where they really became the Craftsman at their trade Rock and Roll Singers and Musicians. If you want proof of their amazing Repetoire just listen to the BBC Recordings Its Mind Blowing . Than they came back to the Liverpool to the Cavern where fate would take them Across the Universe.. to America and than Around the World .. The would go through this Experience together Beatlemania .. How can they not be inseperable or close like brothers going through this Amazing Experience together and than Co writing all the songs and words and music for the Beatles ... You Don't go through something So Profound and not form a closeness and bond with that person like John and Paul did .. I thought Pauls Speech was perfect >> id much rather see someone speak from their heart and fumble over the words because of emotion than read from some dumb cards script that sounds so contrived and fake > Pauls words were from his heart that he wrote in a letter form to his Best Mate and Brother .. A Love Letter Truly..I agree that Individually they were Amazing but together they were Magic .. they Completed each other .. like Night and Day and Yes There is no greater honor if you are singer or musician or songwriter or band than to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.. To think of them as young boys just starting out and having these big dreams to be famous some day it just really makes me cry because they were just a couple of young Liverpool boys with big dreams no different than so many young aspiring singers songwriters or musicians in the world . Sums it up right there. There is Music that could have been. Soooo Much. And we truly cannot even try to imagine the relationship that these two gentlemen shared together. That connection is between those Bookends....and God.
Thank you John, Paul, George, and Ringo......The Beatles. I never had any urge to dissect the personal relationships between the four of them or argue about who was the better person, writer, or musician. I just want to thank them for their music. That's what mattered to me.
I’m just so thankful to Paul, and all the Beatles for being so real and so sharing.. everything they did meant so much to me then and now. I wish to meet them in the after Life.
One of the only times that you'll see this gentleman show nervousness. I think it bespeaks how much John and the group mean to him, even in light of the disagreements and misunderstandings they all went through. I suspect that besides Linda and his family, nothing means more to him than that band, The Beatles.
Freddie Mercury was Brian May's best friend, and Sir Paul McCartney was John Lennon's best friend. It is nice to hear what the surviving best friend says about the dead best friend.
Oh the stories Paul could tell!! It must of been difficult with out getting emotional. These 4 blokes changed the world 🌎. I LOVED ALL OF THEM & THEIR MUSIC. THEY MOLDED MY WORLD. John was so talented & such a musical force. SEAN. JULIAN & YOKO his family . GEORGE & JOHN dearly missed around the world. THANK YOU Paul!!! Love their music, still at 65 it moves me sometimes to tears.
Paul, always so naturally charming and adorable, even after so many years as one of the most famous artists of all time, on the planet, ever. He's never stopped being humble and pretty normal. So lucky to have grown up with these guys. I am forever grateful.
You can tell he’s uncomfortable sharing his memories and is struggling to keep it together, the little snippets that he’s giving out are for him and John to understand, not the rest of us.
I've heard all of those stories before, but to see Paul tell them from his head, emotions, and love he had for this person he shared this time with was truly impactful!
To be young and raised on Beatle music...what a gift God gave me and anyone who grew up on them and their music well it's timeless.God bless the Beatles

Lenny Hendricks Paul should have been inducted at the same time. Really nasty that he wasn’t inducted until FOUR years later!!
@@barbaranelson8617 -- I would imagine that had to do with John having passed and Paul still being alive and kicking at the time. I don't sense that Paul was offended.

No, love is never "holding back". Love is full on inclusion.
Couldn't even imagine how he is feeling.
TheAwakenedINFJ He’s holding back from bawling while saying things he wished he had said to his dead friend he never got to reconcile with. I’d say it’s ok here.

McCartney is the most accomplished songwriter in rock and roll history. Hands down. It's him. Beatles, Wings, solo, duets, etc. Nobody wrote and made music that sold more than he did. That goes for all people and all types of music ever
He is extremely modest most every time I have ever heard him talk. Extremely. Doesn't brag, doesn't talk down to people. He is also a considerate and caring listener when fans and reporters, etc., speak to him. In fact, the way he is, he typically acts like you are important to him when you talk to him. That is why people love him even more.
Hes pretty humble for how great he is
Paul is lovely.

I think he would do anything for me."
Obviously, I never met a Beatle, but it always troubled me to think that the two men didn't reconcile before they died. I find it very comforting to know that they did and that they had the opportunity to tell each other how they felt.
In the end, I suppose, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Paul always loved John and the group. He dedicated many songs to John. In 1974 John was wearing a button "I love Paul" and someone asked him "Why are you wearing this shirt?" "Because I love Paul." Harry Nilsson told that story.
They were really friends...

hi Zeusdattilo, exist a picture with John and this shirt?
I don't think. Actually, as referred in Geoffrey Giuliano's book "The Beatles: a celebration" it was a button. Harry Nillson told this story about a girl friend of his who, one day, met John who was wearing this button on his shirt.
She asked him "Why are you wearing this button?" and he replied "Because I love Paul".
John did love Paul. It was the impostor they hired after 1966 he wasn't too crazy about
That final "John Lennon, you made it.
+austin angler we all do - it's a human condition.

If John was around today I'm sure they would be good friends. That youthful competitive spirit can be destructive. But age is a great healer.

It's impossible for those who were not there to understand what they were and what they meant to all of us. Every six months a new album would come out and every track was a gem. Every three months there was a new single with music that was never on an album.
In the early 80s A Hard Day's Night was re-released in theaters. I went with my friends and all of those who were my age literally cried at the beginning of that film. well said...🎸🎵🎤
I am so tired of people bringing him, down.GAZ
ok.
Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful input. It has instantly assisted me with my over-thinking.
You can tell how important John was in Paul’s life they were brothers and he really misses him because Paul is trying not to tear up because normally he talks so easily.
John may be gone physically but he still lives in peoples hearts
R.I.P. John Lennon the world misses you ❤️
The "ah boy" at 6.30 is one of the most revealing moments i've ever seen from Paul.
Ikr it's like he's trying to recover from some memory he had with John 🤔
D. D.D. On
D. D.D. all i can think of reading that comment is the video where everyone facepalms at the same time
@D. D.D. I used to love the Beatles before I realized they were all occultists and used their music to spread an agenda of evil.
It's 2019.
Their music will be playing in 3019. And beyond.
And it's 2020 now
@@celestial6516 2021 now
Yep. Forever.
John Lennon would have been 78 now and it would have been fascinating to hear his take on what is going on in this world.
He was a highly intelligent but complex character and it is a tragedy that his life was cut short at such a relatively young age.
Truth INDEED
Wilma watch the movie called “Beatles Stories.” John’s assistant said he became more conservative before he died after meeting Reagan (at a baseball game!) and having a long talk. I might be full of it but this is what I remember.
I wonder what he would have thought of the internet. Oh how I wish he had hadn’t been killed.
@@winser21, go bother someone who cares. Pffffffffft.
@@winser21, keep your pathetic imaginings to yourself. Piss off.
Agreed
Well said, me too. Pax te cum
I don’t even want to think about it… I will be inconsolable!
When that day comes it will be tragic, I’m not prepared for that yet
He’s 80 now. Let’s appreciate living when he’s alive even more.
Paul is so good in front of an audience. That he seemed uncomfortable in front of this one tells me how hard it must have been for him to hold his emotions in check, especially at the end.
This is the most uncomfortable I've ever seen Paul in public. It was a beautiful speech though.
His heart was breaking.
Rene Rodriguez
Quite right. Speaking wise yes. And playing Here Today. It really does me in. It gets me to see Paul pouring his heart out with grief. I do feel him.

You could see him holding it back all the way through. Almost made me cry.
He looked and sounded like he was high. I didn't feel any love.
You've lost that loving feeling. He was very emotional.
I prefer the Spanish Beatles. Juan, Paul, Jorge & Gringo.
Los Beatlos

I've heard Gringo changed his name to english one , Richard , I think he thought it would sound more cool.
… and Jose - Jose Perdomo the CIA agent, as security guard on the gate of Dakota the night Lennon was killed.
Everyone should watch the interviews with paul McCartney when he was young. Whenever they'd ask him something he'd give John the credit. Always. 😑😑😑
Great insight! I'll keep an eye out for it.
NOTED I am on the lookout 🕵️
Jason Schauer bellissime parole...beautiful words...
Nah. This was lip service bullshit.
How would you know, Asshat?

There’s an unusual moment at 1:30 when he says “yeah”. It doesn’t sound like Paul. It sounds like John to me.
John might have said that
hE wAs pOsSeSSeD!1!
Period.
Envious people like to criticize Paul.
@@reginateixeira6401 Yeah, they definitely like to. It's terribly sad.
Very very well put.
BINGO You nailed it, great comment
John was Rock and Roll. And he was ALWAYS in that hall. This just made it official.
Dale in Sales it was a pseudonym he used; the name Paul McCartney in French would be Paul McCartney.
I was going to say "Rubbish!", but on investigation it appears to be correct.
It must be difficult to condense a life and career like John’s into so few words, but Paul wrote his story with skill and delivered it with love, and humor. A well deserved honor by a good friend.

Paul was John`s friend, so he knew him better than any twunts who comment on this video. Have a think about that.
"I love him.... At the end of the day, when it's all said and done, I would do anything for him, and I think he would do anything for me." -- John Lennon on Paul McCartney, to Dave Sholin of RKO Radio, morning of Dec. 8, 1980
"...morning of Dec. 8, 1980"
Linda McCartney mentioned to Carl Perkins that the last words John ever said to Paul in person were "Think about me every now and then, old friend."
Isleofwight Dave Ha ha. Well put that man.
I can't even imagine all the stories he has of him and John. He could've gone on for an hour and it still wouldn't have been enough.
Thanks for your words Greenwolfe Green .. Cheers Mate
