He donates his portion of the souvenir sales to charitable causes as well. Ringo Starr is an amazing man that also fits the mold of a "workaholic".
Yes...I have seen the All Starr band twice, both times at Univ. Amphitheater in L.A. Once his other drummer was Ginger Baker of Cream, so you know there'd be no way I'd miss Ringo & Ginger drumming together on Sunshine of Your Love. I'd like to see him take the young drummer Sina on one of his All Starr tours. The 2 times I saw him in L.A, a drummer and host was Sheila E.....another great drumming talent.
Just a guess on my part, but I remember reading an interview with one of them (maybe Ringo, but might have been John) a long time ago, and he said that as they gradually got tired of it all after Sgt Peppers, that it was always Paul who was the "Okay boys, time to make another album" guy, and they'd work up the energy to make another album. That period might have been what he was referring to when he said Paul the the workaholic. I think they all had a lot of energy and wanted to keep making music, but Paul was the one who kept pushing to keep the Beatles together (from my understanding, anyway).
If the world had more down to earth human beings like Ringo on this planet earth, the world would be a happier planet even with all his wealth he is a down to earth no airs and graces with him .His mum and dad brought him up well a fantastic human being and glad he came into the group. There’s only one thing I can say: I love this man. Ringo is such a hero to me, and he’s been a HUGE part of the soundtrack to my life. And what a great guy !
A legend indeed. But a very down to earth bloke, no airs and graces. Was lucky to have quick pint with him once, many years ago, and always the same; cheerful and laughing
I liked that cool little tidbit about the way he'd listen to music in his youth. He'd let the *_whole song_* wash over him (just like most of us do), rather than just doing what one might _expect_ a drummer to do - namely, focus solely on the drum parts. And this is part of why he's so *_revered_* - he's always looking at the "big picture" - looking for what will best *_serve the song._* Respect.
I've heard Ringo say that before. It's really nice to give Paul that credit. People criticize Paul for being bossy, but as Ringo said if Paul didn't call them to work they would just be sitting in the garden. Paul is like that classmate who begs everyone to work on the group project while everyone is playing Call of Duty.
@@One.Zero.One101 I think they might have stayed together if they'd taken more time off between albums. There was no reason to do three albums in a one-year time span. It's not like the public was going to forget THE BEATLES. Had I been John, I'd have told Paul if he wanted to work so badly, he could do a solo album. Meanwhile the others could get a well-deserved rest and time away from each other. "See ya in six months, Paulie!"
Without Lennon, there are no Beatles !! maybe if they would have taken a break from each other once in a while they might have lasted longer than 1970. Yes the Beatles are the greatest band of all time and have Timeless Classics that will be talking about 200 years from now but I will emphasize it was John who got the Beatles back together twice: once after their first disastrous trip in Hamburg and after 1966 when Lennon admitted he missed working with the other four after he got done finishing filming How I won the war.
Ringo and the Beatles changed my life. I am a professional guitarist because the Beatles on Ed Sullivan changed my life in a second. Many of us have that same story. Thank you, boys. b
You misunderstand him...Paul wasn't the "workaholic" in the early days, John was more productive. By March of 1966, John told Maureen Cleave, he wanted out of the band. They were paid poorly (ripped off financially by EMI and Brain Epstein. None of them had a million dollars to their name! Can you imagine? John always rebelled against authority.). But, they were still under contract. Paul needed the Beatles more than the others because he had no interests outside of the band. So, he maintained the same work ethic and release schedule they'd had in the early days. John and George (who wanted out too) were no longer motivated to BE Beatles. Ringo, the drummer, apparently, can not appreciate their position. It was a slow disintegration...
@@myguitardetective5961 I don’t think I misunderstood, because Ringo has said many times, if it weren’t for Paul, we would have never made 12 albums. What interest did John and George have outside the Beatles?
@@dedrajade5394 you did indeed misunderstand him. Paul only figured into that narrative after Pepper. So, that represents the final albums: MMT, White Album, Let It Be & Abbey Road: that’s when John and George lost interest in the band. Prior to that, John led the band and he was the most productive member. As a musician, I’ve always preferred their earlier work…
@@myguitardetective5961 I didn’t misunderstand at all. Ringo has said it more than once. John was definitely more productive in the early day, Paul always was… early to late.
@@dedrajade5394 you did misunderstand him. Paul never had to get the boys “motivated” from 1966 or earlier. The impression Ringo gives, is that without Paul, those records aren’t made…it’s only true for the final three years out of eight total. That’s my point. John ran the show for those five years…the end of touring and getting ripped off financially meant George and John were no longer motivated or emotionally vested in being Beatles any more. Using Ringo’s quote as you do, overstates Paul’s role as a “workaholic”…
what about the one where he's a child in hospital and someone comes in to entertain and teach (including some basic instruments) ..and Ringo likes the maracas, the bongos, the triangle and drum etc.. and the rest is history.. ?
Ringo === unbridled brilliance ... Beatles most fortunate to have him ... George Martin knew Ringo's worth, certainly as much an asset as the other 3 ...indeed a truly amazing unique musician and human !!!
Ringo is quite grounded and deserves a medal for all the sitting around he must have done waiting for Paul and John, sometimes George, to be ready to play something.
I agree, I must say I heard Ringo say he was the best drummer in the world in an interview, I mean " were does he get that idea from"? crazy statement to make, nice to see a very humble guy here though.

"I'm a band guy." That sums Ringo up pretty much. He knows his place, he's not a showboat like Buddy Rich or Gene Krupa. And he didn't try to be like other drummers. Then again, being the Beatles' drummer worked out pretty well for him, why should he be what he's not?
From Feb. 9,1964, through "A Hard Day's Night" that same summer and beyond to all of the great albums, Ringo has been a steady force, thanks for your music, thanks for your attitude and thanks for never giving up or in!

Ringo was always an underrated drummer. Him and George did so much for the group that sometimes seems to get lost. George had an insane level of output that was suppressed by John and Paul as well. Some of the best "Beatles" stuff was Harrison songs that came out after the Beatles broke up.
@@jimcoleman598he was an integral part of the whole. I do get your point. It is refreshing to think how a couple George songs are part of the tapestry of music we would call timeless. While My Guitar and Something…..two incredible pieces of music. Shalom

Ringo was one of four. It was the four parts that made the whole. It is astounding what they did together-they literally changed the world. They all spoke the same language, stood for the same things and each individual was loved by so many. Scorsese did an amazing bio pic on Harrison and it was incredible how beautiful George was as a human. They have a deeper meaning to me, more than I even understand.
“Rain” is often my favorite Beatles song, because it shows off all their best. Beautiful singing harmony, a strumming guitar not showing off, some great bass by Paul, and maybe the best drum track in all of Rock & Roll. That one, and Ticket To Ride. No Ringo, no Beatles.

They were all down to earth. They were Liverpudlians. When success came along, they had one another checking, keeping them from going nuts. And what I love is that Ringo accepted to join The Beatles because he loved the guys. To be a drummer in this business, you have to love the guys you're playing with. He's got his priorities at the right place.

I recently had the great pleasure of seeing Ringo with his latest All Star Band in Vegas at the Venetian- like four weeks ago. They were fabulous- the audience was on their feet the whole show! The take home point that corroborates Ringo's comments in this interview, was how he really shared the music with his exceptional group. The band included players from Toto, Average White Band, Men At Work among others- they all showcased songs that they all had written, not just Beatles numbers or RIngo's solo material. It was phenomenal. A very, very generous person and stellar bandleader, Ringo, he knows how a band should work.

for me it was the movies. He was such a natural performer, but at the same time always humble. Always the butt of the joke, taking abuse, being chased around for his ring, and consistently had the funniest lines. Even in Yellow Submarine when it wasn't really him, they kept that authentic.
He's just saying the obvious, 10 years of intense working/personal relationships between each other. Of course, you're going to have fights and eventually want to naturally pull away from that. Ringo is just saying it's natural and nothing to be shocked about.

A perfect example of 'how to be human'.His humanity shines through ,and you can hear it in his drumming.
Dan Rather’s reaction to Ringo’s last story sums up the overall mood of this interview perfectly. One of my fave Ringo interviews ever!
What I find worldly is 4 very very young boys with "just" A tiny drum kit, 3 guitars and a harmonica, along with some amps with tubes in them created those sounds that will never be replicated again. Simply Amazing, timeless.....
Their voices and harmony was awesome as well as their creativity in supporting the group effort. Rare talent indeed.
It almost breaks my heart about the differences they battled. They didn't hate each other, they were battling personal choices.
@@williameggleton414 Imagine if John had never met Yoko. Bad personal choice by John, for sure.
Well, John Lennon's one of my favorite human beings and so is Yoko.
Wow, I hope I'm that fit and sharp at 77. I bet he lives another decade or more! Loved this Beatle...such a nice down to earth guy, too. His drumming is just now becoming appreciated the way it always should have been.
And you stop and consider he was ill as a child. Looks great now. He looks younger than Paul. IMHO
He's not 84 yet.
He was 77 during this interview. It is from 2018
Ringo I believe is 83
@@nolanwolfe - They said this was from 2018, when he was 77. Ringo was born July7, 1940, which makes him currently 83, and 84 about 1 1/2 weeks from now.
what a great human
he is so positive about life
he earned his success

Ringo looks incredible for his age! Live forever !
Great drummer? Yes. A Beatle? Yes. But, first and foremost, a decent, honorable, kind human being. Thank you, Ringo!
Exactly. He is who he is because he's "together."
Spot on! Yes, it is.
Just a bloke who happened to be in the right place at the right time. Jimmy Nichol was a far better technician.
Actually and honestly, a very average drummer at best.
@@whoisit441 watch the UA-cam video on Ringo that was presented at his Rock Hall induction. It will show you how other noted drummers react to Ringo’s drumming. Also, listen to Rain, Tomorrow Never Knows, Ticket to Ride and Come Together- innovative drumming that has long been admired
0:40 It's funny to hear Ringo call Paul the "workaholic" of the band". Ringo is STILL touring! I had the pleasure of seeing him and his All-Star Band just last year....Amazing.
Love Ringo, love his spirit, his attitude, and his positive outlook. Peace and Love!!! ☮☮
And Dan Rather is now 92 years old, Ringo is 83. Kudos to both of them.
Time has been good to them.
Ringo was always my favorite, I love them all. They’re a HUGE part of my childhood. But Ringo will always be my favorite. 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
My favorite too!
My favourite too!

If the world had more down to earth human beings like Ringo on this planet earth, the world would be a happier planet even with all his wealth he is a down to earth no airs and graces with him .His mum and dad brought him up well a fantastic human being and glad he came into the group. Lovely man keep good health Ringo
He has so much integrity! Always loved him! He’s a great soul ♥️
Never underestimate having a mostly full head of black hair. Never underestimate being always skinny.
Such a supportive spirit, playing for the song, the other players, and the listeners. He sets a great example for all musicians. . . . . . .
Ringo ages like a fine wine
Thank you RINGO for saying that Paul got you guys going! I've been saying that since the band stopped touring.
Ringo was in the Beatles, and he is still humble about it. I'st so far out. He was the backbeat of the 60s.
What a humble Superstar, Legend!!!! So rare to have such a down to earth Musician
Ringo and the Beatles changed my life. I am a professional guitarist because the Beatles on Ed Sullivan changed my life in a second. Many of us have that same story. Thank you, boys.

I love how Ringo keeps it real, peace, love & happiness!! ✌️
I love that he says time is his gift, the man has everything in the world and understands the value of time 2:28
Uh...when he said 'time', he meant his sense of time as a musician...
“I’ve never listened to the drummer, i listened to whole thing”. And there you have his grateness really.
This dude is the definition of "Go with the flow". Ringo is the ultimate team player. Love his attitude
People who go with the flow don’t take risks. I see what you mean though. Very humble and chill

@@SolarEclipse1996 His last show was in front of his bedroom mirror. You shoulda been there.
He always gives Paul the credit for always pushing the Beatles!! I love that he acknowledges Paul, rightfully so!!❤Brothers to this day!
A snare drum and brushes...how Ringo got his start playing in the lunch room at a factory in Liverpool You always learn something new!
what about the one where he's a child in hospital and someone comes in to entertain and teach (including some basic instruments)
..and Ringo likes the maracas, the bongos, the triangle and drum etc..
and the rest is history..
I've seen hundreds and hundreds of Ringo clips...this one is especially good
I agree, I must say I heard Ringo say he was the best drummer in the world in an interview, I mean " were does he get that idea from"? crazy statement to make, nice to see a very humble guy here though.
I just got back from a tour of the Beatles homes (mystery tour) in Liverpool and you realise these guys were grounded from day one. Best band in the world ever! IMV. 4 guys in perfect harmony!
Ringo looks great and he’s still sharp as a tack. I’m so glad we still have him and Paul with us. 🙏
You mean Billy? Jk
Excellent interview…
I loved the Beatles. I remember seeing them get off the airplane for the very first time on TV Now, I’m giving away my age away lol

I was waiting for Dan Rather to ask Ringo about the movie he was in ‘Caveman’

I saw Ringo and his all-star band 2 yrs ago. He still has it!
Ringo is the glue that kept The Beatles together, for that alone, which makes him the biggest star in the group. 😉 Slainte ❤❤❤❤
And when he joined the Beatles, the other 3 guys knew Ringo was the perfect drummer for the Beatles
So glad he didn’t bash any of the guys! He really is a class act! I LOVED The Beatles! Ringo was a favorite! ❤❤
Love Ringo. He's so humble , talented and a great sense of humor!
"I'm a band guy." That sums Ringo up pretty much. He knows his place, he's not a showboat like Buddy Rich or Gene Krupa. And he didn't try to be like other drummers. Then again, being the Beatles' drummer worked out pretty well for him, why should he be what he's not?
Billy Joel really

A band fired me for growing tomatoes while playing drums...a skill that took me over 3 1/2 decades to master.
But then again you wouldn't know those names if they weren't "showboats."
From Feb. 9,1964, through "A Hard Day's Night" that same summer and beyond to all of the great albums, Ringo has been a steady force, thanks for your music, thanks for your attitude and thanks for never giving up or in!
What an Absolute Treasure Ringo is.......the World is so Fortunate.
When I was a child and saw on T.V. The Birth of the Beatles, my hero was Ringo. He was the underdog. I got a kid's drum kit and the 1967-1970 blue collection for Christmas that year. Best Christmas ever.

Ringo was always an underrated drummer. Him and George did so much for the group that sometimes seems to get lost. George had an insane level of output that was suppressed by John and Paul as well. Some of the best "Beatles" stuff was Harrison songs that came out after the Beatles broke up.
According to George, only in the later years he wrote more songs, I wouldn't call it an insane amount.
@@jimcoleman598he was an integral part of the whole. I do get your point. It is refreshing to think how a couple George songs are part of the tapestry of music we would call timeless. While My Guitar and Something…..two incredible pieces of music. Shalom

@@jimcoleman598 Yes, but Harrison's songs dominated on the last several Beatle albums: ("While My Guitar Gently Weeps": White album, "Something": Abby Road).
He was 10% of the band. J P G. were 90%. They wrote the songs and played the instruments.

@@rupert2578 Interesting note. What makes the TTR drum part stand out is the slightly off-beat part, probably caused by a left- handed drummer playing on a righty kit. Could have been Ringo or Paul, but either way, it works so well.

I'm from Liverpool. I've never been lucky enough to go to a concert yet but I did get to go to Rhyl Sun Centre in the early 1980s when I was a small boy. It had water slides and you could buy ice creams if your parents had the money. There was a monorail thing there as well if you had the money.
Ringo is so so bright, hence his massive contribution to the Beatles.

for me it was the movies. He was such a natural performer, but at the same time always humble. Always the butt of the joke, taking abuse, being chased around for his ring, and consistently had the funniest lines. Even in Yellow Submarine when it wasn't really him, they kept that authentic.
Ringo is very cool! He’s always impressed me.

He's just saying the obvious, 10 years of intense working/personal relationships between each other. Of course, you're going to have fights and eventually want to naturally pull away from that. Ringo is just saying it's natural and nothing to be shocked about.
